Karl Rove had the hard drives removed and destroyed from all the White House PCs. Only way to get rid of hidden stuff in your computer is to destroy the hard drive and replace it with a new one. This is proof that Bush Regime is obstructing justice by destroying evidence.

  9. david woods says:

    Ya think?

Maybe Rove just stopped sending emails because he was so busy, uh, … heading up the Katrina relief efforts. Yeah that must be it. That was his job wasn’t it?

I won’t be a bit suprised to find stuff in those lost emails that indicate violations to any number of laws, statutes, and rules. US attornies, judicial appointments, voter suppression, kickbacks, bribes. Who knows, we may find Jimmy Hoffa’s wrist watch in Karl’s top right desk drawer.

If they need any help combing through the 5 million e-mails they did find please don’t hesitate to call.

Oh my my my it looks like the Republicans may have behaved even worse than we thought. I didn’t think that was possible anymore. Not with how riddled their credibility is. By the way I am referring here and to my other posts to Republican politicians and officials when I refer to Republicans of course. Of course Republicans will claim that Republicans aren’t breaking these laws which are all so clear when the Republicans pass them to make a Democratic White House keep proper records of their business but are all so hopelessly confusing when they apply to their own. Funny how amnesia once again sets in for Republican lawbreakers. The old double standard rears its ugly head.

Seriously, it’s time to start seriously thinking about impeaching. And fast.

    No shit ?

The linked NYT article says there are none before 2005 and that archiving of these emails started in 2005.

The attorneys were fired in Dec-06.
No shit that pre-2005 emails related to something that happened 2 years later ?

I was under the impression very little if any deliberations went into why/not these attorneys should be fired. That their firings were supposedly in response to cases they did/not prosecute.

You are assuming the complete opposite.

  25. Kilo says:

Problem is, Rove et al knew what they were doing (also problem solved b/c shows malice aforethought)

Well I don’t doubt that Rove knew what he was doing, but the problem here is that you don’t.

You were just over at TPM suggesting that this Rove would have had to have had terriffic IT knowledge or used outsourced help to access servers and work the magic required to delete these emails.

You know… like you do every time you open Outlook.
Of if your server does IMAP, like when you hit the “delete” button on a bit of spam.
That kind of Mission Impossible super hacking. Sheesh

Problem solved, Rove deliberately deleting ems from RNC server.

That’s generally how deleting email works. Likewise for sending email, combing your hair and opening doors. All are generally done “deliberately”.

This is Watergate all over again except instead of plumbers Rove’s enlisted computer techs to infiltrate.

Infiltrate ? WTF are you talking about ?

If you have an email program on a computer this “infiltration” generally involves opening it. With a “double click”. At what point are the men in black getting involved here kooky ?

You need to enlist computer techs to download your email do you ?

    RICO? You bet . . . .
    Comment by curious — April 13, 2007 @ 4:06 am

Well of course it’s a RICO case. Since if he got his email he’s clearly also guilty of turning his blackberry on with equal malice.
Not to mention malicious hacking of networks since these things access a wireless network.

    Stop being so hysterical.

  27. Kilo says:

    trolls trolls where are you?

Well if you’re hanging out for a devil’s advocate why not take me up. I can’t see much of a story here with these RNC accounts.

can this possibly be getting so bad for them…

Getting so bad ? You should probably take some time by yourself to figure out what the issue is here.

In this story here there aren’t even any penalties for breaking this law. At least I think that’s what WaPo said… I don’t really care enough to read the thing twice.

For an administration that has done what this one has and still maintained core public support and had very few internal defections, why don’t you name a few of those issues out loud to yourself then say “deleting emails” at the end.

You really think anyone is giving a toss about this when Walter Reed didn’t rate ?
    Get your hand off it.

…that no matter how much meth they smoke they can’t dream up an explanation for why this isnt incredibly shady..?
    Comment by Chocolate Jesus — April 13, 2007 @ 4:55 am

Well what are the shady issues ?

    1. These RNC email accounts are being used instead of official WH email accounts.

Well that seems to be a requirement. Either the WaPo or NYT stories I just parsed said that not only is it prohibited to use a WH account for party fundraising etc, but that non-internal emails are blocked. You know Karl Rove works for the party more than the WH so this should have been a given.

If my work set up filtering rules that blocked me receiving incoming emails and black-holed emails I sent out to external addresses I would do most of my work via another account. That ain’t shady, that’s called not being fked stuffing about with a crippled service when other non-crippled services are available.

If WH TVs only picked up C-Span you would use a TV that picked up C-span and everything else. This ain’t complicated, it’s bleeding obvious.

    2. So far it has been revealed that emails were deleted from servers.

That happens in pretty much every email account everywhere milliseconds after you download your email. In other cases where IMAP folders are used server copies are deleted when you delete the local copy.

I have no idea how blackberrys operate but I would be suprised if they are accessing regular email accounts that anything different would be occurring than what would happen if you accessed the same account from a computer using Outlook.

    3. These deleted emails were prior to 2005.

Well let’s care when we’ve got a pre-2005 issue to worry about. This really wouldn’t appear to have any impact on the US attorney evidence as the firings were 2 years later and after the server admins instituted email archiving.

Practically the only notable or unexpected detail I have seen so far in this story is that whoever admins the RNC servers instituted archiving of Karl Rove’s emails to protected them from automatic purges (pardon the pun).

That’s NOT a story called “Emails have been deleted as you would expect, shock, horror!”

That’s a story called “Emails have been unexpectedly kept!”

WTF is the problem ? Shouldn’t you actually be happy about this development rather than calling it shady and having people talk about RICO cases ?

  31. veritas says:

Does a bear $hit in the woods? Of course, they were using these servers to circumvent the Presidential Records Act and now they’ve been caught red-handed. Time to hold these criminals accountable for breaking this law.

After all, Nixon was booted for far less than this!

  32. veritas says:

The guilt is written all over their slimey faces on this one! Let the people decide what to do about this. I call it clearly ‘destruction of evidence as a method to obstruct justice” and in my book, it’s a criminal offense.

Whether it was “intentional or unintentional” on their part is irrelevant; they violated the Presidential Records Act so they need to be removed and prosecuted according to the law. (which the people will remind them that they are certainly not “above”).

The mere fact that they were doing official business on secret computers indicates a breach of the law and is prosecutable. The rest of what this may turn up is pure “icing on the cake to the Big House for all of them”.

  33. veritas says:

I’d imagine it’s all there: Abrahamoff, Cunningham, the stolen elections and how they did it….the whole ugly can of worms. If they don’t cough it up, then try them for violation of the Presidential Records Act and get them to prison so this country can begin the healing process of the GOP inflicted wounds. Everyone knows they are a bunch of liars, thieves, and thugs and the american populace has absolutely zero respect for any of them at this point. The sooner they are booted, the quicker this country can heal and recover from the diabolical deeds of these gangsters.

  34. veritas says:

Everyone knows that unless one destroys the hard drive these emails are still in existence. Go for the jugular, Congress – because this is clearly a violation of a critical law of this democracy.

  35. veritas says:

Nice try, Kilo troll but your logic is fundamentally flawed here so pack it up and move your spew elsewhere!

  36. AboveTheClouds says:

Since the day he slithered into the White House Karl Rove has worked to divide America and try to gain a “permanent Republican majority.” Unfortunately, the only way he will be able to do it is through lies, cheating, and manipulation of the law and courts. He certainly can’t get a permanent majority based on the new GOP values of war, death, debt, and corruption. Maybe those millions of missing emails were about all the wonderful things the GOP have been doing for America–they just don’t want to appear as though they are boasting. NOT.

  37. Kay says:

It’s funny. After almost 7 years of deception, obfuscation and out right lies : all of a sudden we are all supposed to believe that 5 million e-mails are simply missing and this is just a simple scew-up?

    No, I don’t think so.

  38. veritas says:

Of course, as the MSN anchors intimated yesterday: If they were only using this for “political purposes” then it’s clear that the firing of 8 attorneys, for which there is a HUGE gap in the document dump, was then “politically motivated”. So, the way I see it, they’ve painted themselves into a very dangerous corner here.

It’s a case of “damned if you do/damned if you don’t” on these emails. If they admit that they ONLY used them for political purposes, then clearly, the firing of attorneys is now known to be completely POLITICAL.

If they say they used them as a matter of course for both political business and official business, then they’ve violated the Presidential Records Act.

Either way: This is the CATCH 22 for the end of this administration and the destruction of the Rethuglical Party. That’s the way I see it and I believe that’s the way it will all shake out.

    It’s Bush’s Waterloo – Bush’s Catch 22.

They thought they were clever; they thought they were smart; But, in the end, we will see that they just weren’t smart enough!

  39. veritas says:

As an aside: the Anger of the critical mass of americans directed against Don Imus was an example of “projection” as well as a mandate that this country begin to recover for the moral destruction this WH and GOP has accomplished in this country. Don Imus took the brunt of america’s anger; Don Imus, as a known Republican, epitomizes the “ugly republican” and the bigotry, hatred, and self-loathing that party typifies. The people stood up to Don Imus just like they are now standing up to this “cadre of criminals” in the administration. The people will stand up to George W. Bush and hold him accountable for the destruction of our democracy now.

  40. veritas says:

Rove is the mastermind behind this criminal activity. Waxman needs to subpoena him next. After all, he should be behind bars for his involvement in the Valerie Plame outing and somehow slimed his way out of it all.

Now Rove’s “gig” is up. He will be found guilty of “destruction of evidence for the precise purpose of obstruction of justice” – he will be tried & convicted and will do jail time for his complicity in all of this.

Deleting these emails will be their “catch-22″ – if they admit they were strictly used for “political purposes” and are found (and they still do exist on servers somewhere, as we all know), then it’s a slam dunk for prosecution of all of them for firing attorneys for political reasons (not to mention illegally inserting the clause into the Patriot Act Renewal which allowed them to do so….where’s the investigation into this criminal wrongdoing? )

If they admit that they used these email accounts for official business, then it’s instant curtains for all of them (anyone who violated the Presidential Records Act such as aides, employees, etc. who will be tried and convicted and do jail time).

  41. veritas says:

This email situation will prove to be a “triple feature” so pop your popcorn, get into a comfy seat, and watch this administration implode. Somehow when the “bad guys” get nabbed in the end, everyone is gleeful and joyous to know that the side of “truth and justice” IS truly THE AMERICAN WAY. Always was and always will be despite the chicanery and cleverness of the “bad guys” who try to change it.

  42. veritas says:

AND WAXMAN ET AL HAS THE FULL AND UNEQUIVOCAL SUPPORT OF THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS TO “TAKE IT TO THE TOP” WHERE IT FINALLY BELONGS ON THIS! America supports this Congress 100%!!

  43. CC says:

I had never heard of Don Imus before this week. I understand he has been saying nasty, hateful things of this nature for years and, for some reason, is just now answering for it. I must contest your comments about his meaness being representative of the Republican party. I am a lifelong Republican and I assure you that you will never hear such comments from me, my family, my friends, or my fellow church members. That represents a lot of Republicans. The nastiness and hatred that he represents crosses party lines as evidenced on this sight. I challenge you to read any of the current comment sections and find one of substance that isn’t filled with hateful remarks, name calling, and vile, filthy language. In fact, I find it interesting that posters on this site are so determined to fill their posts with filthy language, that they resort to using symbols in place of letters to bypass the language filters. Take a look at the violence in our entertainment (produced overwhelmingly by liberals) and the “reality” shows that depend on people turning on one another (again produced mainly by liberals). The Republican party hardly has a lock on hatred. I don’t consider conservative opposition to homosexuality on moral grounds and belief that minorities can be better served than by keeping them dependent on welfare, to be hatred.
