Did Justice ‘take any action’ to influence corruption cases?

On March 5, 2007, then-Gonzales chief of staff Kyle Sampson forwarded the opening statement of Associate Deputy Attorney General William Moschella to key White House and Justice Department officials for their review. The White House recommended that this line:

Second, the Department has not taken any action to influence any public corruption case, and would never do so.

be replaced with:

Second, the Department has not asked anyone to resign to influence any public corruption case, and would never do so.

Because they knew Bush simply breathing would be taken as “any action” to the Bush-lied-people-died crowd, so they were trying to be as precise as possible — damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Clearly, this is the Fake-Jake at work again, trying to make the real Jake look as foolish as absolutely possible. I don’t think he really needs the help, do you?

When someone is as incompetent as you are, yep, everything you do, or don’t do, you certain f*ck up. Story of your life, Jake? I can see your life unfold. At least 3 divorces. Horribly behaved, and greedy children just waiting breathlessly for you to die. Pretending you’re a *moral* man, while living your life with online porn, and secret swingers parties.

Sorry Jake, but you’re pathetic, as is the life you will lead.

  6. Bluedog49 says:

The third article of impeachment written up and approved by a bi-partisan panel for the impeachment of Richard Nixon was using the power of the executive branch to attack political opponents. Removing a prosecutor from his or her position because they will not bring charges against a political opponent certainly falls under this catagory.

  7. Spudge_Boy says:

I sure hope they used the new cover sheet when they filed that TPS report.

  8. EasyRider says:

You will need to remove some GOP Senators from office on eithic charges before any of this GOP gang would vote to impeach.

I would remove them in the states that have Democratic Governors and select the Democratic Senators.

Otherwise don’t count on the GOP gang to impeach Bush.

But we impeach and impeach the entire GOP organization for not voting to impeach Bush. They all would loose the next election all across the nation.

This is yet more evidence that Alberto Gonzales likely lied under oath during his January 18th testimony:

Justice is stagnet. A pool of swill. Their “action” fails to deal with corrupt administrative problems. Bush administrative problems begin with wolfwitz, brownie, small, gonsales, epa, fcc, interior, etc, etc, etc ….all appointed sludge and some leftovers from the last congress.
It’s time for all to shout a little louder or become a different country.

  17. Briseadh na Faire says:

    Regarding impeachment.

If Democrats originate the process, they will be lambasted by the press and lauded by the people. Republicans will feel obliged to fall in line behind their President and will refuse to convict in spite of overwhelming evidence. The Republican Party will thus destroy itself to save Bush’s Presidency.

If Republicans originate the process, they will take credit for cleaning house when the Democrats were too timid. They will vote to impeach and convict Bush, putting Cheney in charge, with a hand-selected appointment (Guiliani or McCain) for Vice-President.

Or, both parties will stay the course, which will cause massive voter dissatisfaction in ‘08, leading to the possibility, for the first time in a long time, of a viable grass-roots third party to spring up and put forward multiple candidates at all levels of government.

  18. Spudge_Boy says:

More than likely, the network tv and radio clowns (and the print press)will not let go of anything as juicy as Imus or Anna-Nicole or the tragedy of the day to devote any effort to reporting honestly what is really going on in the world.
    Why?
Because they’re afraid to, or told not to.

  21. Neal says:

I don’t see an issue here. The Justice Department is supposed to take actions to influence public corruption cases. It is supposed to take actions to help prosecute well founded cases or dismiss unfounded cases. At a minimum, the original language would have had to have been revised to read: “has not taken any action to improperly influence…” The change they made instead strikes me as a perfectly valid alternative to addressing this problem with the original language.

JakeOff continues to be under the false impression this is HIS BLOG. He also is under the false impression that he’s informed, relevant or has anything to offer. He’s also under the false impression that people care that he plagiarized the biography of a veteran – just like his Hero Coulter did her whole book. He’s also under the false impression that anyone (lurker or otherwise) thinks he’s smarter than a t*rd. Because Jake, no one and I mean NO ONE thinks you’re anything but a giant steaming piece of sh*t.

Oh I’m sorry valiant venus probably likes you, but then we don’t count WINGNUT TROLLS when we talk about *people* here. Terrorists don’t count.

  28. Briseadh na Faire says:

    This, from cnn.com:

Perino said 22 aides in the political arm of the president’s office use party or campaign e-mail accounts, which were issued to separate official business from political work. Some of those accounts were used to discuss the December firings of eight federal prosecutors, a shake-up that has triggered a spreading controversy on Capitol Hill.

The RNC accounts were set up to separate official business from political work. The firings of the prosecutors were discussed using the political accounts, not the official business accounts!

The implication is that the firings were political, which lends credence to the theory they were fired to obstruct justice.

Another implication is that the White House aids were conducting business on political accounts in order to evade the Presidential Records Act requirements.

Finally, since these emails were on the political accounts, to put forward the claim that they constituted official business in order to shield them from Congressional subpoenas gives further credence to the implication that the Presidential Records Act was violated.

You being involved in anything with the word “intelligence” isn’t for the record, it’s for the joke books! You’re the same as michael (heck you probably are michael), just another st*pid piece of sh*t liar that thinks they’re someone important. When in fact, you’re a useless pile of sh*t terrorist.

  30. orionATL says:

this is the one that will do the bush white house and doj in.

this communication is an implicit admission that the white house was seeking to effect an ongoing public corruption case – mostly likely the one in which carol lam was investigating congressman randy cunningham, businessman/government contractor mitchell wade, and pals.

an investigation that was about to move directly into the white house through the door to vice-president cheney’s office.
