Former Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca lambastes the Bush administration in his new book. “Am I the only guy in this country who’s fed up with what’s happening?” Iacocca writes. “Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. … But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, ‘Stay the course.’”

Gov. John Corzine (D-NJ) was seriously injured yesterday in a hit-and-run car accident, hospitalizing him “with fractured ribs, a broken leg, and chest injuries.” Corzine did not “appear to have suffered life-threatening injuries.”

Rudy Giuliani’s (R) current foreign policy advisers include retired Gen. Jack Keane, the architect of President Bush’s Iraq escalation policy, and former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton.

“Four years after Iraq’s Saddam Hussein was deposed by U.S.-led troops, an international panel charged with recommending invitations for an exclusive meeting of the world’s democracies” has ruled that Iraq is “not invited,” the same status the country had under Hussein’s rule. Last year, Iraq had observer status at the Community of Democracies meeting.

“President Bush is threatening to veto a Senate intelligence bill that’s laced with provisions that would force the White House and spy agencies to be more responsive to Congress.”

Advocacy groups are scoring a “surprising success in an effort to link the Olympics, which the Chinese government holds very dear, to the killings in Darfur, which, until recently, Beijing had not seemed too concerned about.”

$100,000: The legal fees paid this year by Rep. Rick Renzi (R-AZ), who is wresting with separate investigations probing whether Renzi “introduced legislation that benefited a military contractor that employs his father,” and whether he “helped promote the sale of land that netted a former business partner $4.5 million.”

As many as 6 million prepared meals worth more than $40 million that were “stockpiled near potential victims of the 2006 hurricane season spoiled in the Gulf Coast heat last summer when the Federal Emergency Management Agency ran short of warehouse and refrigeration space.”

And finally: Some Connecticut lawmakers are pushing the state to adopt Connecticut Fun, a 1983 tune by the band Punkestra, as the state’s official punk song. Peter Detmold of the punk band New London’s Reducers is “amused” by the whole idea: “Well, I just wonder if that sort of recognition is true to the punk ethos. I guess it seems wrong-headed or oxymoronic for a punk-rock song to be official anything, and you wonder what (the legislature) is supposed to be paying attention to.”

With Imus in the headlines, where is there room for folks to talk about Anna Nichole Smith or Sanjaya? With all the chaos in Iraq, maybe this can be another distraction for the Bush White House as the spotlight light is off of them even for a brief moment.

    Afghanistan’s status was also downgraded.

    Yep.
    We’re makin’ progress.

    AboveTheClouds,

Most people in this country arent even turned to see the spotlight, they’ve got their backs to it.

There is no outrage because of overwhelming apathy, government only does for itself.

    AF Officers Clash with Contractors
April 06, 2007 from Military dot com

Even though they won’t face a court-martial, two Air Force officers involved in a road-rage incident with a Blackwater USA contractor in Afghanistan have been slapped with administrative sanctions.

“Specifically,” North wrote, “while in uniform you shoved, kicked, pointed your loaded M-4 rifle at, and threatened the life of Mr. Jimmy Bergeron, a U.S. civilian contractor employee who did not pose a reasonable threat to you or others. … I find your conduct reckless, undisciplined and a discredit to the armed forces.”

…The investigating officer who heard their testimony concluded that they properly followed the rules of engagement and recommended that the charges be dropped.

Imus was fired because he didn’t understand jokes about “blacks” and “homos” no longer have a place in civilized discourse. The end for Imus was when he told Sharpton this week that he had no chance with “you people.”

  9. Sally Says:

    Mr. Iacocca,
We are all outraged but if I had your celebrity status, I would be organizing marches and protests. People are truly fed up with every passing day. Why is no one in the MSM or the Pollsters not asking the IMPEACHMENT question on a weekly basis? We should demand that they have us vote on that question instead of some idiotic polling question.

  10. leftcoast Says:

“Where is the outrage?”. Well, Lee, in short most Americans feel powerless, especially since our newly democrat-controlled congress does nothing more than hold hearings. Even though there is enough evidence to impeach our mamby pamby congressional leadership is too scared to do it. So what can anyone really do about it? Bush won’t listen to anyone so what good does protesting do?

  11. veritas Says:

Iacocca’s right and the outrage is now reaching a fever pitch! The critical mass of outrage will not be contained now and saved for the election of 08. The critical mass of outrage is becoming a tsunami which will flush out this corrupt administration. Smoke & Mirrors?? Steal and Conceal? That’s an understatement and there will be much more heinous criminal activities uncovered in the months to come.

This tsunami of public outrage will begin calling for the impeachment of Bush and his entire cabinet in the coming weeks.

Congress will no longer consider impeachment an “option” but rather it will be considered a “responsibility” and a “mandate” of the people. Congress will have no alternative but to put impeachment back on the table this coming week. If they fail us, then we will begin a bombardment of their phones, email, etc. along with calls to the complicit, propagandized news agencies in this country.

  12. Larry from C Says:

Iacocca writes. “Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. … But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads…”

Mr. Iacocca, the mass public is terribly uninformed. Mr. Iacocca, we need Independent Media Outlets. Would you please use your fortune and start buying as many media outlets as you can afford (radio, tv, newspapers). If we inform the public what is happening, how truly horrible it is, I’m confident they’ll be outraged and demand change. As it is, Joe Sixpack doesn’t understand what’s being done to/by their country.

  13. veritas Says:

ANYONE with a soul is outraged by this level of corruption wagging in our faces. Absolutely Not - Lee Iacocca - you are definitely NOT the only one who is outraged. Let’s watch this new wave of outrage by the critical mass against this administration quickly. In actuality, though, this white house is bringing itself down and fast with each new scandal atop the last one which is still hanging over this country like a “huge elephant in the room”. Each day/another uncovering of wrongdoing and/or criminal activities by this gang of thugs.

  14. veritas Says:

  18. Gary Kleppe Says:

Former Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca lambasts the Bush administration

The word you want there is “lambastes”.

“Four years after Iraq’s Saddam Hussein was deposed by U.S.-led troops, an international panel charged with recommending invitations for an exclusive meeting of the world’s democracies” has ruled that Iraq is “not invited,”

The USA ought not to be invited either, not until it gets rid of that fraudulently elected clown in the White House.

  19. Ben Dover Says:

Whats with all this talk about outrage?? Who cares about what goes on in Iraq? Who cares if Afghanistan turns to rubble? So what if Iran has nuclear material. I”m a typical american. The most important information I want is to know if Anna Nicole’s tits will be preserved in the Smithsonian. Think I’ll go turn on Faux Noise Network and wait for a Faux Alert on the status of her tits. That, unfortunately is whats really important to most of the sheeple of this nation.

  20. veritas Says:

The taxpayers shall now demand a return from this crooked government of the $40 million in the FEMA food which was left to rot. Where is their conscience? Where is the accountability? Where is the justice in all of this??

$40 million lost taxpayer’s money on spoiled food and how much is still unaccounted for (in offshore Bushie accounts) that was sent to Iraq?

The taxpayers DESERVE answers right now - not tomorrow/not next week/ but right now. Either that or no one should pay another dime of tax to this government unless/until they prove to the people that they are not stealing our money.

  21. veritas Says:

The only reason people care at all about Iraq is because Iraq is tanking our own economy. Everyone knows what happens when one doesn’t tend to it’s own backyard and, instead, funnels beaucoup dinero into the purpose of killing, maiming, and destroying others. The “grim reaper” will come to call and our own backyard will be full of vermin of every type and size. That’s precisely what’s occurring in this country right now. OBL was right on one count: He needs to to absolutely nothing; this country will destroy itself from the outside in.

This, unfortunately, is coming to pass - and at our own hand.

Ben: you forgot a couple of other things that the Amurkan public has been more interested in than real news — what Sanjaya’s hair is gonna look like next week, and whether or not Imus should keep his job. Of course, this follows years of watching Britney, Paris Hilton, K Fed, Deal or No Deal and QVC for most of the uninformed public.

The general the other day was right — it’s no wonder we can’t get ourselves out of this quagmire in Iraq, when most of the braindead public sees news reports from there as something to be avoided in favor of celeb TV…

#32 Fielding is purportedly a shrewd lawyer with decades of Washington experience dating back to the Nixon administration. His past style has been pragmatic, with deal-making and compromise substituted for legal action. But he has taken a no-compromise position here, and conventional wisdom says that Bush is insisting on this confrontational course over Fielding’s objections.

I can’t imagine anything better than the Chimp-In-Chief micro-managing his own legal defense.

Iacocca questions where the outrage is — it’s right here in middle America, but he associates himself with the elite class, his peers are CEOs who do not see the middle class as anything more than a group to be exploited.
It’s somewhat gratifying to see Iacocca express his own outrage, but he has the power to do something about it and so far, all I see are his empty rhetoric.

  37. GSD Says:

No, Dale, you ignored the question.

Ford Explorers were recalled because of faulty FIRESTONE tires. Let’s just recall faulty George W. Bush.

In this particular instance, there’s no FIRESTONE tires? No! GOODYEAR tires? No! Just BADYEARS BADYEARS, BADYEARS, BADYEARS, BADYEARS, BADYEARS, and more BADYEARS. These BADYEARS are getting very TIRE—-ING I might add.

I’m glad Iococca has changed his tune, but where has he been for seven years? I think he’s a little late to the George W. Bush bashing party. Most of us knew George W. was an incompetent creep years ago.

Yes, Edwards’ campaign fired McEwan and Marcotte for their comments; comments like theirs are damaging for a political candidate; ESPECIALLY in a presidential race. Whether or not you agree with their comments, whether or not their comments were the focus of the articles where they were found (my suspicion is that the comments in question were only ancillary to the article); Edwards wouldn’t want to take a chance in alienating Christian voters.

However, my point is that there are plenty of ‘media figures’ that DO denigrate religious people; I don’t see any on the left calling for THEM to be fired.

I didn’t just ‘come close’, Dale…I invalidated your entire “It’s not ok to denigrate race, but it *is* okay to denigrate religion” argument (restated verbatim from your post #47). It’s obviously not OK to denigrate Christianity, as the examples of McEwan and Marcotte clearly show.

    What’s my point?

This is where we are in Iraq. We’ve stepped in dooh-dooh deeper than we thought. As we try to get out, our footing is sucked in by the suction of our own excrement. We’ve got it on us now, and we risk losing our footing and falling right in the bullshit.

Bush has taken bullshit to a level never seen before in America. He’s made it, he likes it and he’s determined we all wallow in it.

This is what I’ve termed the Bush Syndrome, or BS.

I’m glad corporate America is now noticing the smell. But, the bullshit is lying everywhere. You can’t read a paper, watch TV or listen to the radio w/o hearing or seeing bullshit.

Still waiting on those examples, Dale…

  73. lutton Says:

Corzine’s accident wasn’t exactly a hit and run; agressive driving in front of his vehicle forced a car into their lane, which forced Corzine’s driver to take evasive action, leading to the accident.

My suspicion is that he was not wearing a seatbelt, as he was in a big SUV which appeared not to suffer catostrophic damage.

The State Trooper driving the SUV wa also injured…

  74. Dale Says:

#63, my post must have been lost.

Actually, no, they didn’t. They resigned before that could occur.

You’re correct, they resigned, they weren’t fired. I’d suspect that they were asked to resign, but that’s immaterial… I still feel, though I didn’t like their comments and felt they had no place in a political race, that the comments were overblown by Donahue.

Could you please provide a list of these ‘media figures’, along with examples of said denigration? Pe3rhaps if we were made aware of them, we would so call.

Here’s one by Bill Maher: “I think religion is a neurological disorder

Rev. Jackson referring to Jews as Hymies, and NYC as Hymietown.

Sharpton telling Jews to “pin back their yarmulkes and get it on”

How about Olby’s gay-baiting of Anderson Cooper?

And these are just the ones I found in a few minutes… notice I didn’t give any Fox News links.

So are these comments a part of ‘civilized discourse’???

It’s obviously not OK to denigrate Christianity, as the examples of McEwan and Marcotte clearly show.

One example; and this was in a presidential campaign… candidates are much more leery of this type of discourse from their employees.

  75. muckdog Says:

Lee Iacocca, the reason there’s not outrage at Bush is because the economy is doing well. While he’s not a popular President, his economic policies have been beneficial. Unemployment is at 4.4%. Wages are growing. Net wealth is at the highest levels ever.

Dissatisfaction over Iraq? Sure. But the economy is why there isn’t outrage at Bush.

    AND THAT’S THE TRUTH!

  76. pikkel Says:

Iacocca has weighed in. Now he’ll stuff his face and return to his snooze. Thanks for everything, Lee

  77. Gary Kleppe Says:

Jackson made that comment once, well over twenty years ago, and has apologized for it many times since. That’s not at all comparable to a guy whose whole schtick is racist put-downs.

Maher’s blaming all religious people for the actions of a few is certainly out of line, but again, it’s just a one-time remark. He never made a career out of insulting certain groups the way Imus has.

Your links don’t quote what either Sharpton or Olbermann actually said. I’m not about to take your word that it was bad.

  78. pikkel Says:

Recall that Iacocca endorsed Amway’s Dick Devos for governor of Michigan. So don’t expect a lot of energy from him on this.

  79. TripMaster Monkey Says:

    Dale sez:

Here’s one by Bill Maher: “I think religion is a neurological disorder”

So now we’ve gone from denigration of specific religions (Judaism, Christianity) to denigration of all religion? I fail to see how this relates.

Rev. Jackson referring to Jews as Hymies, and NYC as Hymietown.

As I recall, the ‘Hymietown’ incident ended Jesse Jackson’s political career. Funny that you thought it worthy of mention…I was counting this one in my column. ^_^

Sharpton telling Jews to “pin back their yarmulkes and get it on”

See above. This statement ended Sharpton’s political career, although, unlike Jesse, Al didn’t have nearly as much to lose.

How about Olby’s gay-baiting of Anderson Cooper?

Olbermann was criticising Cooper’s refusal to be honest about his sexual preference…not his sexual preference itself. An important distinction that you seem to have overlooked.

One example; and this was in a presidential campaign

One example is all I needed to invalidate your argument.

  80. Gary Kleppe Says:

    Unemployment is at 4.4%.

As nearly everybody knows by now, the official unemployment statistics only count a limited set of people, those who are receiving unemployment insurance.

    Wages are growing.

    Cite.

Net wealth is at the highest levels ever.

That much is true, but almost all of the wealth is concentrated in the hands of a tiny minority, so it doesn’t do the rest of us any good.

  81. Jay Randal Says:

    Friday the 13th in Bushlandia
    13th of April 1984/2007
    by Jay Randal

Today is Friday the 13th in Republic of Bushlandia, formerly known as the United States of America, and Big Brother Bush proclaims that he is winning in Iraq.

We the proles are not supposed to care that the Iraqi Parliament cafeteria was bombed, in the Green Zone yesterday, nor that bridge was blown up in Baghdad.

Terrorist Osama bin Laden, aka Emanuel Goldstein, has already been blamed for the horrific bombing, of the Parliament, by Dubya’s Ministry of Propaganda.

The Minister of Horse Manure, Sen. Joe Lieberman, claims that Iraq Fiasco War surge is going very well and the horrendous mayhem means progress in Iraq.

Not-a-chance-in-hell presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, believes his shopping trip to Baghdad market with 100 soldier guards proves Iraq is progressing too.

Congress has capitulated to continue funding the war and Ministry of Love {Torture} is under construction?

(Jay Randal, political activist and writer in Georgia, USA.)

  82. pikkel Says:

Don’t let Lee Iacocca trick you. He has known what has been going on. Do you think he is less stupid than any of us? His purpose in saying what he did in a book was to be able someday to have his progeny look back on this dismal time and say that Lee Iacocca disagreed with what was going on. Well the truth of the matter is that he didn’t disagree. Like I say, expect nothing more on the issue.

  83. leftcoast Says:

A free society begins to deteriorate when it disregards its rules of governance and leadership takes no action. The administration of GWB has been notiicably engaged in this process of rule breaking since its inception. The deterioration has started—our constitution is being assualted from every direction, seemingly every day and yet our leaders of congress seem unwilling to restore governance.
This path breeds complacency among a society and a attitude of “I’ve got mine”. In the end though it leads to a weakened security from within and abroad, and this can and will only end with the worst imaginable
    consequences.

  84. Zooey Says:

  85. Sharon Says:

Big Papa and all..The thing that bother’s me the most is our representatives won’t even try the impeachment…Every one say’s they don’t have the vote’s yet they have not presented all the mounting evidence and demanded the hearing’s or even started the investigation’s…It has the appearance of a contuance of enabeling and allowing these war-monging evil doer’s to continue on untill their term is up…Thousand’s more are dieing every month and our representative’s busy them selves with less important conern’s..I worked hard along with million’s of other’s to get these people in and do the job of getting this evil administration out and convicted for their war crimes and crimes against the people of the world….I realise they have only been in office 3 or so month’s, that 90 day’s and how many live’s.? I’m sorry, I am out raged and ready to boot all their asses out, every last one if they do not get rid of this terrible cancer…At the very least they could try….I’m sick of Impeachment is off the table….If Madam Sreaker Palosi isn’t going to do it and no one else is either then I’m for kicking them out as well… We the people are the employer’s, they are our employees…Do the F***ing job or I’m going to fire your ass….Blessings

  86. USA Says:

Former Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca lambastes the Bush administration in his new book. “Am I the only guy in this country who’s fed up with what’s happening?” Iacocca writes. “Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder.

    Answer:

All the world’s money is in the hands of the fools. The people who could change the world into utopia at the drop of a hat are poor and can’t get jobs because they are discriminated against. The people who have jobs are struggling, and are completely regimented because of their jobs, just like the federal government has planned all along…drive to your suburb house, drive to your job at the cubicle, drive to the grocery store….a concentration camp is all it really is. In addition, the tools that would allow mankind to grow into adulthood, and create utopia, and answer all of mankind’s deepest questions, and fullfill the unknown emptyness mankind feels are illegal.

  87. TripMaster Monkey Says:

Over four hours since my reply, with nary a peep from Dale.

I guess it’s safe to call this one.

I’m waiting for the hispanic jokes. Let’s see if they are funny or simply derogatory. Go, Dale!

And, if you think it’s derogatory applied to AG, maybe it’s not so funny.

    Comment by Sharon #86

    Sharon (and all),

I too am frustrated, but also see the “big picture” somewhat more clearly now…

…the Democrats are carrying out a delicate balancing act…

…they are conducting oversight (gathering evidence) on war profiteering, DOJ misconduct, and any number of OTHER Bushite junta misadventures…

…while simultaneously taking care of issues (trying to pass legislation) to…

…stop the war, get stem cell research rolling, get a liveable minimum wage etc…

…all while battling a TREASONOUS right wing Repulsivescum minority, with a vested interest in OBSTRUCTING AND UPSTAGING Democrats…

…the Democrats cannot project an image of IMPEACH only mania…

…they must be wary of the TREASONOUS Repulsivescum who may attempt to lure Dems into an impeachment deal, only to betray them at end…

…the so-called Independents, Libertarians and other conned’self-serving leaning fed up voters…

…will bolt back to the Repulsivescum…
