As best I recall, Jefferson took the money but did nothing in return. Looks like the FBI contributed $100K to Jefferson’s reelection campaign.

Just remember, the justice department is controlled by neocons. When they go after a republican it is generally because he has broken ranks, not because of his unethical behavior. They all behave unethically. They only get caught when they cross the party leadership.

The sad fact of the matter is that if there had been active oversight then most of these illegal acts would not have happened.

I don’t even think this is a lib verses con thing, I think either party will become corrupt at a much higher rate if they think nobody is watching and they hold all the cards.

While the cat is away, the mice will play.

Currently what happens if a party is voted out in congress is that they have absolutely no power. What I want to see is the outsted party in the House and Senate being able to hold hearings and subpoena witnesses. They need to have their own judge and special prosecutor to enforce these subpoenas, to enforce contempt of congress charges for failing to appear, and to investigate lying under oath.

I think that if there had been this oversight then many of the abuses of the past 6 years would not have happened.

References of Rep. Jefferson have no place here. If He’s found guilty, He’ll be prosecuted. Using his name to try to offset what is going on with Doolittle is absurd. Whoever wants to keep score of which party has more crooks, look no farther than the numbers from each party who are being investigated or indicted. You’ll find that Republicans are dropping like fly’s every day. I think the numbers would be even higher, had there been the level of oversight in the last six years, that there is today. It’s pretty obvious that the corruption in this Republican administration starts from the top down. This administration is guilty of so many crimes, that just what is known to the public, is enough to put them all away for life.

In the family employment line of this story, someone ought to take a look at why Richard Alcalde hired young rookie Dan Feliz to represent some of Alcalde’s Indian gaming clients? Feliz is the son of longtime Doolittle political aide John Feliz. John Feliz also managed Pombo’s campaigns and “raised” money for them both but he never contributed or registered as a lobbyist.
