Increasingly desperate, and facing broad public opposition, Bush used his last Iraq speech on Monday to stir up fear with repeated references to September 11 and dark visions of “death and destruction…here in America” if U.S. troops were to withdraw.
Now Bush is taking his show on the road. Bush will speak about Iraq tomorrow at Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City, OH, to “local businessmen and students who take an advanced government class.” On Friday, Bush heads to East Grand Rapids High School in Michigan “to deliver what the White House calls a ‘major policy speech‘ on the War in Iraq.”
His message to teenagers: fear for your lives. The Detroit News reports:
White House spokesman Alex Conant said Bush will tell the audience that “the consequences of failure in Iraq would be death and destruction in the Middle East and here in America.”
Of course, Bush shouldn’t expect a particularly sympathetic audience. Even as far back as 2000, reporters noted, “Most of his high school stops have been larger rallies, shielding Bush from the often-hostile high school audiences. Nobody in the campaign could remember the last time Bush took questions from high schoolers.”
Times haven’t changed. “Some East Grand Rapids students plan to wear black on Friday in their own form of protest.”
He’ll be signing them up to serve soon …
April 18th, 2007 at 11:01 pmHe’s delusional.
I hope some of those high school kids manage more of a protest than wearing black.
April 18th, 2007 at 11:05 pmBill Moyers is having a special on PBS that outlines the complicity between Bush and MSM right before the war.
http://www.ctnow.com/custom/nmm/hartfordadvocate/hce-hta-0419-ht17observer17.artapr19,0,2332889.story?coll=hce-utility-ha-advocate
When you think about the total lack of ethics displayed by MSM you must ask yourself, why is there no self-policing body for journalists like there is for lawyer. I know, it takes a lot for a lawyer to get disbarred but they can and do get disbarred. Journalists instead are given awards and fat pay increases when they should be losing their credentials for reporting.
April 18th, 2007 at 11:07 pmWith or without any more delusional speeches from Bush, how many kids are going to join the Army knowing how the Bush government will treat them?
Tomorrow’s headlines: “Bush touts Iraq policy to US students. Shoots self in foot.”
April 18th, 2007 at 11:10 pmThe High School Students are smarter than Chimpy. They know what their future is if this illegal war continues.
April 18th, 2007 at 11:11 pmThe “Booga Booga” Bush Presidency. Fear and Smear.
April 18th, 2007 at 11:11 pmHe is reduced to peddling to High School students???
April 18th, 2007 at 11:13 pmTalk about nothing to say.
tens of thousands of high school students will rush for enlistment after the inspiration of der fuhrer
April 18th, 2007 at 11:14 pmBush is only interested in avoiding the consequences of admitting his own failure.
April 18th, 2007 at 11:35 pmDubya is undoubtedly the worst thing to ever happen to this great nation. The Republican Party will pay big time for the damage they have inflicted on the USA and our constitution. They will never have a majority again.
April 18th, 2007 at 11:36 pmWhat is gonna tell them… hahahahaha I’m sending you lambs off to slaughter… deal with it?
I bet the students in the advanced government class are more qualified than most Bush appointees… what is he gonna tell them… there is no room in government if you intern for a Democrat… so don’t do it.
April 18th, 2007 at 11:45 pmRecruiting sergeants will of course be standing by all of the exits making sure that Tipp City and East Grand Rapids contribute fully to the defense of the Fatherland…
April 18th, 2007 at 11:52 pmCaptive audiences are the best.
April 18th, 2007 at 11:52 pmThe “Bush Youth” Movement was bound to be attempted at some point
April 18th, 2007 at 11:53 pmAh yes, can’t you smell the bitter stench of cold flopsweat, betraying that gnawing, rabid desperation lurking behind the “brave” words of the Dear Leader.
April 19th, 2007 at 12:14 amBush is just as twisted and evil as Cho Seung-Hui, but Cho was a piker compared to Bush. Bush is directly and personally responsible for the deaths of thousands of young Americans, the maiming of tens of thousands, and two orders of magnitude greater deaths and maiming of innocent Iraqis.
I think that all Bush supporters should carry the surname of Seung-Hui. As in: Presibent George Seung-Hui, Patrick1 Seung-Hui, Tracy Seung-Hui, Jake Seung Hui, Firehead Seung-Hui.
As much disgust and hate I feel for Seung-Hui, it is the same feeling I have for the Bushies.
At least Cho had the decency to spoil the pelt. Tracy? Jake? Firehead? Patrick1? George? KKKarl? Do you have any decency left?
April 19th, 2007 at 12:18 amBush is not your President unless, you support his war, wire tapping, torture, etc.
President Bush Visits Tipp City Area Chamber and receives local support
Who: President George W. Bush
What: Visiting the Tipp City Area Chamber of Commerce and local supporters
When: Thursday afternoon
Where: Tippecanoe High School, Tipp City Ohio
Why: Steve Bruns, former Chamber Chairman and Tipp City businessman wrote a letter to President Bush, expressing the continued support he receives in Tipp City as well as a desire to hear him speak on the war on terror. President Bush was moved by Steve’s letter and replied back to Steve to let him know he is looking forward to speaking with the Tipp City Chamber.
In less than one business week, the City of Tipp City, the Chamber of Commerce and the school district have prepared security, facilities, telecommunications, traffic management, communications as well as coordinated efforts with the White House and the President’s staff.
Tickets: President Bush will be addressing 450 Chamber members from Tipp City and other Miami County Chambers as well as local elected officials. Tickets have been distributed throughout the County with an effort to focus on Chamber members, public officials and local military veterans that have supported our President’s efforts.
April 19th, 2007 at 12:54 amLOL so Bush nut wants to give speeches to High School students? What can he say to them? Join the military and die for OIL in Iraq?
April 19th, 2007 at 1:06 amWhite House spokesman Alex Conant said Bush will tell the audience that “the consequences of failure in Iraq would be death and destruction in the Middle East and here in America.â€
Regardless of the spin that will flow when it is “over”, the occupation of Iraq was, is, and wil be a huge failure–not of our soldiers but by the failure of w and his gang. There’s already death and destruction in the Middle East…the occupation encourages it and creates it. So, if the death and destruction is so surely going to come here, wouldn’t it be a good idea to have all our troops HERE to protect us?
April 19th, 2007 at 1:10 amReasons for visiting EGRHS: Peter Secchia and wealth in general. As one who grew up in East Grand Rapids and attended EGRHS I cannot understate the influence this small town has in GOP politics both local and national. Perform a search of the 49506 zip code on any political contribution website and the reasons for Bush’s visit start to become clear. Throw in Ambassador Secchia’s connections to Gerald Ford, GHWB, Dick Cheney, and Dumya himself, and it is easy to see that EGR is practically the Midwest’s GOP Mecca. It is probably one of the few places Bush feels he can “safely” go. Indeed, Cheney has visited East any number of times in the last 8 years, usually as the houseguest of Secchia at his Reeds Lake home.
As you will see on Friday, however, there are chinks in the armor in EGR. I expect you will see fairly vocal protest from East students and from the public in general. But remember, the speech he gives will be to a hand-picked audience of cool aid drinkers, not the student body. So the impression given by the MSM will be one of enthusiastic welcome.
I got a hell of an education at East that enabled me to easily compete at an elite college. My experience was augmented by a strong, if small liberal tradition that also exists in this strange, Peyton Place of a town. Pull up a chair, it will be a good show on Friday.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:25 amI hope EGRHS boos King Bushitler right out of the district.
April 19th, 2007 at 2:20 amWhat these lucky kids don’t know is that YEARS LATER
they will have listened to live and seen in person a GENUINE
WAR CRIMINAL and TRAITOR the the USA and ALL it EVER STOOD FOR.
Such fond memories…
See you in hell America (cause I’LL be THERE),
Mr. Bush
April 19th, 2007 at 2:41 amMURDEROUS WAR CRIMINAL
TRAITOR TO THE USA (TM)
44 “randomly selected” high school students will get to watch Bush give his well-worn fear speech.
I hope they all make their own tee-shirts like the one that got Cindy Sheehan arrested and thrown out of Bush’s State of the Union Speech in 2005. Back then the tee-shirt said “2245 Dead. How many more?†Now it would have to read:
Of course, the number will change by the time Bush talks to this group of potential recruits.
April 19th, 2007 at 4:59 amBuck Fush, and erradicate all his offspring, the world will be a safer place if his defective genes do not spread.
April 19th, 2007 at 5:35 amPls stay in iraq! pleeeassse stay in iraq!!! pleeeeeaassssse stay in iraq.
Please don’t tackle health care, education or re-build New Orleans, please just stay in iraq and become a failed state back home!
And, oh, please change your constitution so that Bush can win another term!!! Pleeaaaaassssseeeee!!!
Hahahahaahahahaahahaha!
And please attack Iran while you’re at it.
Hahahahaahahahahahahaha!
April 19th, 2007 at 6:29 amhey kids, meet your future draft czar!
April 19th, 2007 at 7:18 am““death and destruction…here in America†if U.S. troops were to withdraw.” Well think of the fuel savings! To some extent he’s right though. All of those Vets with PTSD and no support could wreak havoc . Bush is biginning to sound like a certain disturbed Korean colledge student.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:21 am44 students Hand-Picked to suck Bushs’ ass, well isn’t that just dandy! Anyone know how many students in the High School?
April 19th, 2007 at 8:10 amI hope they think to bring in the sump pumps ,so no students drown in the foot or so of drool that will flood the tiny little auditorium
Good. Our youth hate Bush and all he represents. He will be turning them off in droves – demonstrations will increase and the young people upon whose backs he’s foisting the largest national debt ever will join the revolt. He’s loathed by our young people.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:10 amEspecially when he’s considering the draft as an alternative to our depleted military….hahaahhaha….He IS more stupid than anyone ever thought!
April 19th, 2007 at 8:11 amThis should go over big. Is Rove working on other things these days that someone else came up with this winner?
April 19th, 2007 at 8:14 am#20 Jeff Fleetwood-
Thank you for sharing that. I grew up in Kalamazoo myself (a proudly blue county) and I knew it’s no coincidence Bush was visiting EGRHS. I was hoping someone from Grand Rapids could expound on the alarming conservative base he has established there. You did so perfectly.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:35 am#20. Jeff Fleetwood….
April 19th, 2007 at 8:38 amThank you for your knowledgable post, bringing me up to speed on the place I was born. (Blodgett)
My mother, a farm girl from Rockford, graduated from EGRHS, and bought into the upper crust Republican mentality. Which, fortunately, I rejected.
I left Grand Rapids 35 years ago, in disgust, and haven’t been back since, other than passing thru the S-curves on my way elsewhere…
Ah, yes, Reeds Lake, that smelly little pond full of grub infested stunted perch and dinky sailboats full of hungover young republicans……..
There is Media Matters, the blogs, and The News Hour with Jim Lehrer., Dallas NE.
I agree with BushCo that if Islamic Terrorists got their hands on WMD they could seriously damage the world. You guys are sounding like terrorist enablers again.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:40 amHey Jeremy!
I escaped GR in my 20’s, and landed in the Zoo.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:41 amSaved my life!
One of the most alarming things about the conservative base in GR is Amway, Dick DeVos, and his brother in law Eric Prince, founder and head of Blackwater USA.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:45 amAmway played a foundational role in the creation of Blackwater.
That, and the disgusting display of the old locomotive along side the freeway with John Englers name painted on it…………
I live in GR. I didn’t know Bush was coming to town because I don’t watch the local news. Jeez, so now Bush is coming to my town to brainwash and scare the crap out of our kids? Nice!
April 19th, 2007 at 8:51 amHey Raven,
April 19th, 2007 at 8:53 amdo you have any links about the Devos/Blackwater thing? I live in the GR so I am very interested to know!!
Please forgive my disparaging comments, lumping GR into one context.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:57 amI am well aware of all the good people, the disadvantaged and neglected neighborhoods, and the liberal and progressive communities which thrive there as well.
My early years growing up there were painful, in large part because of the discrimination and bigotry I experienced and witnessed.
Blessings and best wishes to all who live there.
There is a new book out titled
April 19th, 2007 at 9:01 am“Blackwater USA, the rise of the largest private army in the World”
or something to that effect, I haven’t read it yet, my rural library here in the southwestern desert hasn’t gotten it yet ((:)
Hope this helps, you might have to send away out of town for it…………………;)
09/24/2005 US Statistics:
Major Cardiovascular Disease DEATHS: 936,923
Motor Vehicle DEATHS: 43,354
Unspecified Non-transport Accident DEATHS: 17,437
Firearm DEATHS (all including by police): 28,663
Most people die from HEART problems. I’m sure pollution & smoking attribute to a good portion of those deaths.
In the same period of time there were 28,663 firearm related deaths. This number is the total for all ages, races, sex and includes deaths from POLICE shootings, suicide, accidental (like playing, cleaning, falling).
43,354 deaths in 2005 were driving related (nearly 50% of that number was DUI related). 17,437 were related to cars and the automotive industry (like pedestrians that were run down). So in 2005 there were 60,791 TOTAL DEATHS that had something to do with CARS/TRUCKS….
As far as I know the US Constitution does not even mention CARS being protected.
FOR THE GREATER GOOD CARS NEED TO BE BANNED SINCE DIRVING LAWS DO NOT WORK!!!

Hahaha, I wouldn’t doubt it :) Thanks for the info.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:04 amIraq invasion
was no ‘mistake’
On the April 13 edition of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” former Sen. Bill Bradley (D-N.J.), to wild applause, emphatically called President George W. Bush’s decision to invade Iraq “a mistake.”
So in the post 9/11 world, Bill Bradley, who voted for the Iraqi Liberation Act of 1998, believes it would have been right to leave a mass-grave-digging, oil-well-torching, WMD-using, terrorist-sponsoring, war-waging, war-treaty-breaking, humanitarian-fund-embezzling supertyrant in power.
How irresponsible and even disingenuous this “mistake” argument is. Everyone gets big applause expressing it but is never called on it and never has to face the consequences.
There is a significant percentage of people who, despite Bush’s inheriting a festering terrorist problem from his do-nothing predecessor, are quick to blame him for 9/11 because it happened on “his watch.”
The same people who blame him for not doing enough to prevent 9/11 are the same people who call it a “mistake” for abandoning the pre-9/11 status quo and deposing one of the worst treaty-breaking mass murderers of modern times.
I can’t understand how anyone could view neutralizing this madman as a mistake.

April 19th, 2007 at 9:27 amWow! 44 students hand-picked by the Bush Gestapo, out of 950-1000. I wonder what kind of fate the unfaithful will be facing?
April 19th, 2007 at 9:31 amHow was the number “44″ arrived at? Who are these “Special Ed. Students? Was a large “Cash Donation” required for selection into the “44″? Why such a small auditorium, when the class body is around 1000? Does the school also pick who goes to Pep Ralleys and such? Will the Secret Service be clubbing and jailing the unfaithful,if they don’t “Toe the Line”?
Anyone got any answers?
The 44 were picked up down on the dock following the Reed’s Lake Yacht Club’s annual Young Republicans Regatta
April 19th, 2007 at 10:00 amIs Bush making the students sign a loyalty oath before they will be allowed into the auditorium? I read in #47 that it is another one of his “hand picked” audiences. There is something really sad about a president who can’t speak in front of a crowd that hasn’t been pre-screened for anyone who might actually ask him a hard question. It’s pathetic.
April 19th, 2007 at 10:08 amTo all the trolls on this board. Can you even imagine President Clinton pre-screening his audience? Don’t you see anything wrong with your president being too scared to talk before an audience that might actually ask him a relevant question?
April 19th, 2007 at 10:09 amgeorge bush may hide behind the protection of his constricted military but high schoolers are a free spirit and the threat of a couple days off for tormenting this asshole would surely be worthwhile.
April 19th, 2007 at 10:24 amWill they connect with the ’60s?
Hoot, hollar and disrupt might be in order. He has no important message for their future development.
The historical parallels are positively disconcerting to say the least…
April 19th, 2007 at 11:28 amYou can bet the “Decider” isn’t visiting an area(s)
where they haven’t already drank the Republican

still believes this lunatic.
April 19th, 2007 at 12:10 pmSo does he mean we should stay in Iraq for an indefinite period of time, say, 50 years or more? He has no intention of w/drawing from Iraq, then, if he is saying those dark visions.
Seems that he is following the dictum of Joseph Goebells(the Nazi War Propaganda Minister) which is “if you tell a lie over and over again, it will eventually become the truth.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:12 pmEugene R. Dunn-
Eu, very passionate, very self-righteous. We’ve heard it all before. Unfortunately, your reasoning is weak, a couple of your assertions, out right lies. The former Prez jailed everyone involved in the first WTC attack, but I personally am done refuting neocon lies. It’s too time consuming, draining and frankly not worth it as there are so many. If the US was so concerned over the atrocities being carried out in Iraq using chemical agents we gave him, then why didn’t Bush SR. finish the job? Because he said it would cost too many American lives and too much treasure and still not guarantee a favorable outcome for the US and may make the situation in the region worse. I’ll ask the same question using a different subject.
If the US was so concerned about the atrocities of suffering nations, where was the US during Rwanda? The Sudan?
The point is Eugene, you are a 20% er. Your rhetoric is stale and dated and doesn’t work on thoughtful, intelligent people. Your President is a criminal, a fascist (in every sense of the word), a malcontent, a murdering sociopath, a terrible liar, a homophobe, constitutional criminal, a habeas corpus crushing torturer, a chickenhawk and a weasel. 640 days until this balck plague that you cast upon our great nation is over. Counting the days Eugene, counting the days.
Lastly, if I accept the faulty argument of “If we leave, they’ll (who ever “they” are) follow us..” What makes it impossible to come over here now while we don’t have a substantial military in the homeland?
P.S.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:13 pmOversight is fun isn’t it?! Ready? Let’s play the oversight game!!
Sounds like the kids are doing alright. Hopefully this young generation is realizing how destructive people like Bush are, unlike the voting population of 2000 and 2004.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:13 pmI am a student at Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City, Ohio.
Bush spoke at my school this afternoon, and I would like to inform you that only about 20 students were actually able to hear the president speak. The rest of us, the students, were held in our 6th period classes while the speech was going on in the gym and we watched via TV. Besides the 20 AP Government students, the majority of the crowd (over 400 people) was adult ticketholders.
I believe that your comment, “Increasingly desperate” is completely out of line. The president was INVITED to come speak at my school. It is a great location because the majority of people in my area are Republicans, our school is rather secluded (there’s not much around but trees) but large enough, and it’s right by the highway and 10-15 minutes from the airport.
I believe that Bush delivered an excellent speech here at my school today, even if I did not get to see him in person (I am a freshman). Although you may take the fact that I am a freshman as a sure sign that I could not possibly comprehend what Bush had to say today…I thought, I listened, I understood much more than what you may think.
Whatever your comment about “hostile” high school audiences is…that is complete nonsense. Bush was warmly accepted by our school. Even the many of the people who do not support Bush were excited to hear what he had to say…and that he would come to such a small town like ours to speak.
In all honesty, it has been the most exciting thing ever to happen here in Tipp City, Ohio.
April 19th, 2007 at 5:31 pmSrs is no high school freshman.
And parrotlover, what part of the convictions of election officials in Ohio have you been missing? Americans did not “elect” Bush in 2004. There was vote fraud in 2002 and 2004, just as there was in 2000. 2006 produced such a landslide of votes against thugs that they could not siphon off enough to steal another one…and in the case of New Mexico, in 2006 ballots were restored so that the electronic “undervote” fraud that occurred in the minority districts in 2004 couldn’t be reproduced.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:45 pmSRS; if a Bush visit is the most exciting thing to ever happened in your area, you REALLY need to get a life.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:12 pmI see that nothing has changed those with calcium deficient spines continue to WHIIIINE about our president. I am one of those adults that attended the Tipp City speech. Those that poke fun at the President have never met him, never spoke with him and never have had the opportunity to see him live. His compassion and strong conviction is infectious. He clearly cares for those in the military that serve under him and makes sure that he tells them that at every opportunity. He is visibly shaken when we spoke about the sacrifice that our servicemen give to our country. He is solemn and has a strong resolve. Our Tipp City freshman should be congratulated for paying attention to the simulcast. This is a historic event for the Tipp City area.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:36 pmWell said SRS .. now when do you plan to quit school and enlist? Ha! HA!
MSM you are so full of you know what. This bastard of a President lied to you and manipuolated you and sent thousands to their deaths, in case you dont know it..If you dont understand that then you ought to s open you eyes and ears.
Unlike you I never met him but it doesnt take much thought to realize that if you care about the military you dont send them into a fools mission based on half ass information that you were too lazy to check out. You dont send into battle except as a last resort. He could have taken numerous paths before sending them off but he wanted war.. Yes he wanted to be a wartime President and that colored his thinking.. what little there is…and look at the horrible price we are paying.
Tell us MSN Oh Great Lover of Bush..what is the purpose of this war..today… No WMDs, no connections to AL Quida or international terrorism as he claimed.or is it now is it some assinine scheme to bring democracy to a country that has 14 centuries of fighting and hate?. You cant bring democracy to people that have no sense of national identity and only want to use democratic government as a means of grabbing control and oppressing the other side. And even if you do stabalize the region they will probably align themselves with Iran. THANKS GEOGIE BOY..
Bush can talk and smile and wave all he wants but his reckless policies have killed tens of thousands and wounded many more including US military people. He is destroying the military, causing us to be hated everywhere with our illegal wars and torture, bankrupting us with his economic policies, neglecting our Southern Border, attacking the Constitution and undermining it, claiming vast powers never before assumed, and ruling by dividing one group against another.
You think he is compassionate and caring..all you see is a smile and a handshake.. but BY THEIR FRUITS YEE SHALL KNOW THEM.. and the fruits of this empty man are wars, lies and destruction and if you opened you head and your eyes you could see that but you just fall for the photo ops, the smiles and the empty platitudes and ingore the reality and nothing can change that.
No matter what facts come forth or what information is uncovered, you will just cover your eyes and ears and tell yourself that the Titanic really is unsinkable even as the waters close in over your head. And that is a fact whether or not you admit it.
April 20th, 2007 at 7:52 am“His compassion and strong conviction is infectious.” – MSM
What are you, retarded or just another Young Republican?
If you got so “infected” by his visit – then get your ass over to Iraq and help with the surge. Better yet, take him with you!
We’ll make Bush the head of al-Qaeda. That way they’ll be defeated inside of a year.
Oh, and don’t forget, MSM – 9/11 Was An Inside Job!
April 20th, 2007 at 7:08 pmCharlie,
What would you have suggested as a war plan when the US landed on the shores of France in WWII? When we lost a couple thousand troops we should have rowed our boats back to the US? Then what would have happened? That’s right pal, you would be speaking German. Would you be OK with that? Or even better if you were of Jewish decent, I would not have had this opportunity to enlighten you!
April 20th, 2007 at 10:40 pmWhen the US fought the Japanese in the south pacific, we sacrificed more than 10,000 troops in a day. Would you have minded if the Japanese landed in California and occupied the US?
It is the brave that protect our freedom and our way of life. Notice that I say OUR, because the beauty of our democracy is that even though you may not have as much stomach or experience with risk and sacrifice as I, our men and women in uniform protect both of us from threats both inside and outside of our borders.
At Virginia Tech, 33 students were slaughtered by an extremely disturbed man. Your friends in France and Western Europe called us a “gun culture” and “violent society”. They scorned the US for the horrible violence in our country. What happened the same day? I’ll tell you. Al Quaida operatives in Iraq filmed 22 Iraqi policemen kneeling on the floor with guns pointing at them. The terrorists sliced the heads off of 3 of them, shaking the blood over the rest of the men before they shot each one in the back of the head. Was there any international outcry about violence in Iraq by terrorists? Was this story carried in the newspapers? Nope. Folks just don’t care about those people.
President Bush knows that by going over there and solving that horrific problem will keep our families from being lined up and beheaded here in the US. Do you really think that leaving those folks alone over there will solve the problem? That those monsters won’t be able to get a plane ticket or bus ride into your neighborhood? What sort of plan do you suggest? I hear alot of whining in here, but not alot of solutions.
i’ll mount a not in our school campaign if i tries his shenanigans here
April 21st, 2007 at 11:11 am# 60 I see that nothing has changed those with calcium deficient spines continue to WHIIIINE about our president. I am one of those adults that attended the Tipp City speech. Those that poke fun at the President have never met him, never spoke with him and never have had the opportunity to see him live.
Well that’s because there are those of us who won’t sign a loyalty oath the Decider and Thief. And he doesn’t want to hear the voice of “Descentâ€. People are denied access to attend giggles speeches because they happen to be wearing black (only anarchists wear black. Maybe someone needs to inform Ann Coulter about that), or a T-shirt with some kind of descent written on it.
You attended that speech and didn’t notice all his incoherent babbling? Are you planning on joining the military so you can go over to Iraq after only 3 weeks of training, and do 3 or 4 deployments of 15 months? You love your “commander and chief decider†so much put your money where your mouth is.
“My job is a job to make decisions. I’m a decision uh uh if the job description were, what do you do uh uh it’s decision-maker.â€
Uh uh, no actually your “job description†is: president of the United States.
“I’ve chosen a path that says we will go overseas and defeat them there. I also know full well that it’s important for us if we’re facing an ideology, if we’re facing ideologues, if we’re confronting people who believe something, that we have got to defeat their belief system with a better belief system.â€
Well, I believe you are an idiot.
“I’m optimistic we can succeed. I wouldn’t ask families to have their troops there if I didn’t think, one, it was necessary, and two, we can succeed. I believe we’re going to succeed.â€
Yeah, and you also “believed†there were WMP there. And that Iraqis would roll and spread em and greet US with candy and flowers. How’s that belief working out for you?
“People ask me uh uh you know, I’ve been reading a lot of history. People ask me, can you think of any historical parallels? Well, clearly the Cold War is an interesting parallel. There’s a uh uh by the way, every new phase of history has its own unique features to it. For example, you’ve got a kid in the battlefield and he’s emailing home every day. Or, four-hour [sic] news cycles. There’s a lot of uh uh asymmetrical warfare, or $50 weapons are sometimes used to defeat expensive vehicles. In other words, these are different times.
But there are some parallels. One is, of course, the ideological standoff during the Cold War, eventually won by freedom, the forces of freedom.â€
Um yeah, ok. The cold war was not “won by freedom†it was won by sanctions… hello.
“I like to remind people that my dad was a 18-year-old kid when he signed up to uh uh for the United States Navy in World War II, and went off to combat in a really bloody war. And yet, his son becomes the President, and one of his best friends in the international scene was the Prime Minister of Japan.â€
Oh, I see the parallels clearly now, thank you!
Q Mr. President, how would you respond to the rather mistaken idea that the war in Iraq is becoming a war in Vietnam?
Yes, “mistaken ideaâ€.
THE PRESIDENT: Yes, thank you. There’s a lot of differences. First, the Iraqi people voted for a modern constitution, and then set up a government under that constitution. Secondly, the uh uh that’s as opposed to two. A major difference as far as here at home is concerned is that our military is an all-volunteer army, and we need to keep it that way. By the way, the way you keep it that way is to make sure our troops have all they need to do their job, and to make sure their families are happy.â€
All volunteer army, now there’s a ‘big difference’. Are their families happy? Ask Cindy Sheenan or Tillman’s etc. oh no wait, Sheenan tried to talk to you remember when she camped out by your ranch and you ignored her.
“There are some similarities, of course uh uh death is terrible. Another similarity, of course, is that Vietnam was the first time a war was brought to our TV screens here in America on a regular basis.â€
um yeah, ok.
“It’s an interesting force posture to be in. Frankly, I was hopeful, as I mentioned to you, that we could be in that kind of force posture a year ago. I really thought we were going to be there until the sectarian violence got out of control.â€
Newsbreak: sectarian violence is out of control.
“I’ve been in politics long enough to know that polls just go poof at times. I mean, they’re a moment; that they are uh uh let me put it to you this way: When it’s all said and done, when Laura and I head back home uh uhwhich at this moment will be Crawford, Texas uh uh I will get there and look in the mirror, and I will say, I came with a set of principles and I didn’t try to change my principles to make me popular. You can’t make good decisionsâ€
“Polls go poof†is that like the wheels on the bus going round and round ? So which of your decisions have been good ones? When you decided to cherry pick and use forged intel, when you decided to lie to us about Saddam\Osama connection, yellow cake? When you decided to spy on us without warrants? When you decided to abolish Habeas Corpus? When you decided to implement torture? When you decided to approve rendition? Tell us, when you look in the mirror do you have a reflection? You see part of being Pres of US is listening to “all†the people, not just 28%. And the way that you listen to the people is by paying attention to the polls. That is unless you’re a dictator.
#63Charlie,
What would you have suggested as a war plan when the US landed on the shores of France in WWII? When we lost a couple thousand troops we should have rowed our boats back to the US?
When the US fought the Japanese in the south pacific, we sacrificed more than 10,000 troops in a day. Would you have minded if the Japanese landed in California and occupied the US?
The difference between WWII and Japan is: 1. Germany was a threat. Hitler was invading country after country. Saddam wasn’t’ doing that.
2. Japan actually attacked us first. You remember Pearl Harbor?
3. Iraq was not a threat, nor did it threaten or ever attack US.
“ And I freely admit that much of my thinking was affected on September the 11th, 2001, and the aftermath of September the 11th, 2001. I wanted to share that with you and the American people so that they understand that when I make decisions, why I’m making decisions. I can assure you I’m not going to make any decisions in regard to anybody’s life based upon a poll or a focus group.â€
“September the 11th! September the 11th! September the 11th! Terrorists! Terrorists! Terrorists! Be afraid! Be afraid! Be afraid! Now go out and buy yourself something pritty.â€
You see in a “true†democracy, the pres listens to the people, a ‘wise’ president poses a question to the citizens IE: “what do you think about this?†That’s what polls are for (they are not just something to dance around every May 1st), that’s what every pres before you did.

As you will see the president asked the American people how they felt about getting involved in the war, that’s what polls are for. He just didn’t make up his own mind that that was what he was going to because he wanted to be a “war†president and “go it aloneâ€.

Free Thinker,
I was afraid for a moment that a liberal blog was going to allow a conservative guy have the last word! Thanks for helping out your democrat buddies.
April 30th, 2007 at 10:36 pmWell you had me going with the “Descent” (the video game) and “Dissent” (sentiment of opposition) thing, but I’ll give you a pass. You did enough homework.
I guess my thoughts on dissent is that there are those who can provide constructive criticism, and then there are others that rely on name calling and besmirching the office of the President of the United States. I am OK with criticism, so is President Bush. He appreciated the bicameral and bipartisan discussions last week and this week. I guess my preference would be to have an educated discussion with Democrats that had conflicting views without foul language, undignified discourse and throwing veggies. I gotta tell you that the small handful of protesters that came out to meet the President were some crew!
I am not referring to the 4 emos from Dayton that drove up to Tipp City to protest, they were just punks that ended up being thrown in jail that afternoon for B&E and tresspass at the junior high school. The other protesters were very vitriolic, one of them cursing at a woman and her small child as they waved a flag.
I can’t possibly think of an occasion where I could find myself cursing out a Dem and their small child, regardless of the situation. That is just sad. I would much rather have folks that have that much evilness pent up to go and tell the insurgents how they feel. The only thing I would fear there is that they might pick up a gun and join the insurgency so they could take a shot at one of our US soldiers. There is something to be said about disagreeing with a Presidential decision, and if you feel very strongly, disagreeing with a President in general. But I hope you would agree that hating your country and your fellow countrymen is way the heck out of line.
I hope you reconsider your thoughts on not fearing these hooded, sabre-toting insurgents. I wish I could come to the same conclusion that you seem to have. That if we pull out of Iraq and Afganistan they will be “cool” with the US again, and will not consider getting on a plane or a boat, or crossing our north or south borders to come and kill some more innocents. I wish that was true. It just seems to me that I can’t trust that those psychotic terrorists won’t be OK with staying at home, despising us. I consider them much more insidious than the Japanese. The Japanese surprised us, but at least we knew who was the enemy, what land needed to be taken to overpower their military might, and how many folks we needed to kill to win. I wish it was that easy with these middle-eastern terrorists.
I hope you consider these thoughts. There is no hate here. Just some concern that both you and I are around for a good long time without having to worry about a sabre being drawn on us or our family.
