urged the World Bank chief on Wednesday to resign in the interests of the institution during a meeting of the bank’s management, sources who participated in the meeting said… World Bank Managing Director Graeme Wheeler, a bank veteran named by Wolfowitz as one of his two deputies a year ago, raised the issue at a meeting of the bank’s vice presidents. … Wheeler…is widely respected in the institution.”
As long as there are two nickels left in the World Bank for Wolfowitz to steal for the neocons–he is not leaving.

Wolfowitz must resign and he should move to Israel who he really works for as an agent.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:03 am“Wheeler is widely respected in the institution” – is not in the article.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:14 amHas it been removed?

I don’t know what you mean. It is in the Reuters article. Here is the paragraph:
Wheeler, a former World Bank treasurer who joined the bank from the New Zealand treasury, is widely respected in the institution.
So, it’s still there.

#5 You need look no further than that article by Hitchens to see how distant the press has gotten from the normal people who make up this country. Wolfowitz clearly broke one of the most obvious rules for non-profit or government work.
It’s called nepotism and you’ll hear a lot about it in your first HR meeting in any position of authority outside the private sector. Hitchens, as far as I can tell, thinks the nepotism that Wolfowitz engaged in is just fine because… well… he knows Wolfowitz and Riza? That was pretty much the substance of his article.
I work in a goverment job with underlings. So does my wife. We are good people. Despite having a master’s degree from an Ivy League Institution, my wife is woefully underpaid and I think she should make more money. However, I’d be fired in a matter of hours if I did what Wolfowitz did. I’d probably be prosectued too.
A pretty good yardstick for the behavior of these DC beltway elite types is simply this: “Would I be reprimanded, fired, presecuted, or possibly jailed if I engaged in this behavior at work?”
You’ll be surprised how often you’ll find yourself saying yes with the actions of the Administration and their cronies.
April 19th, 2007 at 5:22 amRe#12 Rusty
Their corruption should no longer surprise anyone by now!
April 19th, 2007 at 6:06 am#12 – Nice post. I’m ex-government and you are dead right.
The thing that is especially bizarre is that complying with rules that guard against nepotism is really not difficult; in fact, you have to be quite dumb to trip over the pretty obvious guidelines that exist.
One other thought just occurred to me… the last high profile accusation of nepotism involved the assignment of Joe Wilson to Niger after a suggestion by his wife that he might be a good person to make the trip.
Of course, on this occasion, even though Joe Wilson travelled pro bono, it was the wingers making the accusations. Any chance the wingers that falsely attacked the Wilson’s for nepotism are now baselessly defending Wolfie for his?
April 19th, 2007 at 6:39 amfire the bastard already!
April 19th, 2007 at 7:14 amWolfie’s actions, while reprehensible, are not surpising in the least; after all, he was one of the chief architects of the war in Iraq. As a card-carrying member of PNAC, no doubt he was instrumental in the 911 debacle as well, the composition of the patriot act, and everything else that’s led to the degradation of this country and the destruction of our constitution. We ARE in a constitutional crisis led by traitors, liars and thieves who are attempting to pull the most significant “coup” on our democracy. People need to press their state government to become involved in the impeachment movement immediately. Otherwise, we sit back complacently and then when our democracy is kaput, we will be scratching our heads and wondering how and why.
What will bear more consequences, however, is what our children and their children will think of us and our stupidity in allowing an administration to continually lie and deceive us and continue to trample our constitution. Isn’t that we have done about Hiltler and his horrendous reign? How many times have you asked yourself this very same question: WHY DID THE PEOPLE AROUND HIM SIT BACK AND DO NOTHING? HOW DID A TRAGEDY OF THIS MAGNITUDE OCCUR WHEN THERE HAD TO BE MORAL, SENSIBLE PEOPLE WHO HAD THE POWER THE STOP IT? HOW?
I believe we’re now seeing precisely “how” a tragedy like this occurs…..it’s called “brain washing” and our whoring, corporate media on the gravy train of this administration has been feeding us lies and propaganda on everything from the pet food recall to the war in Iraq. Americans no longer can trust the news. It’s contaminated just like our government.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:08 amWolfie replied, “Don’t you love my “hajib-headed ho”?
April 19th, 2007 at 8:20 amWe definitely now can see that the corruption and woes of this country had it’s genesis in the ideology of that group of twisted, reichwingnuts called the PNAC. It’s time for the people to know precisely who these culprits are – subpoena all of them – and get to the bottom of the corruption in our government. Also, the illustrious “Federalist Society” and it’s membership – which boasts that some 150 of these brainwashed idiots have been appointed to premiere positions within the Shrub’s administration. Is it any wonder why this country is in crisis? Now that we see how masterfully these demented individuals concocted this coup of our democracy and our rule of law (BTW, this is the basis of the federalist society – to overturn the rule of law in this country), it’s time to rout them out of their burrows and bring them to justice.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:25 am#14 Good point. I love Wolfowitz’s half-ass mea-culpa where he actually used the words “I was new to the organization, navigating uncharted waters” WHAT? What kind of excuse is that? So he had no idea that nepotism wasn’t allowed? Gee, has Wolfowitz never worked anywhere that had rules? I guess he was just so used to it in the Whitehouse and DOD. Idiot.
I guess the rules are just for us little people.

April 19th, 2007 at 8:30 amThankfully and before it is terminal, the critical mass of consciousness is awakening from the dream of self-delusion and corporate brainwashing to realize that our democracy is handily being hijacked by those on the inside whom we thought we could trust. They’ve bungled everything from the safety of our food supply to the safety of our country. They can no longer be trusted to protect or care about the people. Their transparent ruse has now been outed and the majority of americans are now becoming aware of their chicanery.
The Third Reich was emboldened and enabled by sheer “complacency” – that, coupled with outright complicity and a good measure of good ole’ brainwashing – it’s time for americans to wake up from this “nightmare” called Bush.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:49 amThere has been so much coverage of the girlfriend issue, and so little of the appearance of his meddling in aid to India and politicizing aid to Uzbekistan. The nepotism thing is clearly hypocritical on his part, but the other issues are even more troubling.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:26 amGreat posts Veritas !I couldn’t agree more !
April 19th, 2007 at 9:26 amThis fight is going to get dirty because the Neo cons are now fighting for their lives !Patriots on both sides of the aisle ,and many in their own ranks who can read the writing on the wall are stepping forward and it’s obvious the house of cards is collapsing around them .The democrats, long complacent are beginning to dismantle the neo con infrastructure , and the base which they claimed was supporting them is rapidly realizing their betrayal ( armed right wing NRA members ).
The federal courts reputation is tarnished and my advice to congress is to bypass the supreme court altogether in dealing with this administrations removal ,roll back the appointments and changes made to our laws by people who can only be described as threats to the constitution!
The supreme court ( which elected this administration ) must be very careful here ,it’s actions are being closely followed by a large portion of the American public which is VERY UNHAPPY !The rule of law is there inorder to provide a civil way through difficulties without bloodshed ( ask the NRA )! When the constitution is subverted and the laws are bent to no longer allow this ,the only way to redress grievances lies outside the law and God help us ,this would indeed be a tragedy unseen in most of a century for the United States.
This will be either a great advance for democracy in America or the greatest tragedy in our collective histories .As a father and husband I pray for the former !
Some one once said the pen is mightier than the sword , for all our sakes I pray they were right.
DEMOCRACY NOW !
Good posts, veritas. To quote Thomas Jefferson:
“…mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.”
In otherwords, it’s easier for people to put up with a lot of crap as long as it’s somewhat bearable, than to take action against it. But, as you put it, there’s a point of critical mass when people have had enough. And to quote Jefferson further:
April 19th, 2007 at 9:29 am“…it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
Why don’t they just fire his ass? What he did would be a firing offense for anyone other than a “friend of Bush”. How did we get to own the “World” bank. Why is it that we get to appoint the president of the “World” bank. There’s something wrong with this picture.
