Americans: Withdrawal is not “surrender.”

From a new Fox News poll:

One Senator recently claimed that setting a date for a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq is more accurately described as a date for surrender — do you think it is accurate to compare withdrawal with surrender?

Yes: 33 percent
No: 61 percent

Now who could that one Senator be?

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2007/03/datecertain.320.240.flv]

MCCAIN: Supporters of this provision say they want a date certain for a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. But what they have offered us is more accurately described as a date certain for surrender.

UPDATE: Newshounds and Election Central have more.

Of course. My second guess would have been Joe Liebermann…

  2. Gregor Samsa says:

Is that liberal media again!! Playing with words, confusing the people, gearing towards surrender!!

Our Great Leader should demand the liberal media report the good news that… uh, oh… huh? what? Say that again? It’s a FoxNews poll? FoxNews conducted this poll?

    Oh….

  3. Republicans are the Fear and Smear Party says:

His stubborn “stay the course” stand ought to win him lots of votes.

    McCain exhausts me….

  5. Namtillaku says:

It’s interesting how these poll number that come out mirror opinion polls of the Chimp. I think we’re down to brass tacks as far as who supports the war & the chimp & who doesn’t. I doubt we’ll see significantly different number from here on out.

  6. Republicans are the Fear and Smear Party says:

Why do 61% of polled Americans want to spoil McCain’s fun of someday bombing Iran?

  7. kasinca says:

Someone needs to tell maverick John McCain, the insane one, that if he swims upstream against over 60% of Americans, he has over 60% of Americans against his view…that will not cut it Johnny Boy. You trying to clone yourself into Dumb and Dumber or Dubya and Cheney, is not going to get it.

  8. big papa says:

…can we turn McCain (and his ilk)…

    …over to the Iraqis…

    …under the terms of surrender?

  9. Marie says:

I heard McCain is going to start up a 70’s band.

  10. Shane says:

Senator McCain they make medication for those delusions your having.

  11. Namtillaku says:

Let’s send those 33%’ers over to replace the troops currently there.

    Reagan surrendered in Lebanon.

    Nixon surrendered in Vietnam.

  14. Krazny says:

My thought, lets give bush, and everyone who still supports 100 billion, and a free ticket to Iraq. Then we can bring the troops who want to come home, home, and let the rest of them try to pacify the Iraqi population.

Sound’s good to me….Hell let’s make up a full plane load and send in jake/ harvey / lizzie M.A. michael, roger -roger and any other’s that show up..Let’s throw in a crate of mangos, some cubin cigar’s a little vino so they can have a party..LOL…Blessings….Peace

Let me see. Saddam’s army defeated. Saddam captured, tried, and hanged. A new, freely elected government in Iraq under a democratic constition. How is withdrawal surrender? Just who is the Enemy? Is Iraq not a real country? Or is it Sim-Iraq and the gamers in the WH, Pentagon, and State Dept have to keep playing with the program or their imaginary world will vanish?

Murtha: President’s Iraq war plan requires draft

“Our military has done a tremendous job with what has been asked of them. They have juggled and balanced with what they have, but what they have is not enough. The president asks the impossible and the burden continues to fall on the very few. The pressure must be taken off the current force and their families who have already sacrificed so much. If the President insists on continuing the current operational tempo and policy, then he should call for a military draft. That is the responsible thing to do.”

  22. Briseadh na Faire says:

16- good points, David. What you’ve essentially done is point out why the government in Iraq is viewed as a puppet government. It could not exist without the infusion of billions of American dollars and the firepower of 150,000 American troops, plus Aircraft carrier support groups, plus Blackwater, plus special ops….

    alright, alright.

Fox news poll has crazy-assed results not consistent with usual riech-step results. I still can’t figure out what Flap Jack McCain has to do with it.

This is actually a poll which is more than accurate. It measures the 30 percenters, the hardcore base. So if the base is lost, well, you know the rest.

  28. big papa says:

  29. Jay Randal says:

McCain the warmongering fool must resign from the Senate ASAP and retire from politics for the rest of his senile life.

  30. Sharon says:

The draft issue is a good request by Myrtha, however this administration will never allow it and will fight tooth and toe nail…They may be evil but they aren’t all stupid…Cheney and rove know it would be their immediate end by the public and their own base if there were a draft…Their plan of total dismanteling our country is working well with out it….Untill all of us unite and make good showing’s we are doomed with these evil basterd’s untill the next election or a revalution..Blessings…..Peace

It is easier for me to read, but you’re right, it’s conformist.

  32. ForTruth says:

They certainly can’t draft the people. That means everyone has to be involved in blood sacrifice for Chimpya’s stubborn failed conquest.

    I say lying, cowardly, piece of sh*t st*pid c*nt.

  60. ohce says:

Both Democrats and Republicans are in total agreement with the question of whether body tattoos make a person less attractive (question 39, D=R=66%; I=58%). So a savvy presidential candidate should add tattoo removal as one of their campaign planks and rail against tattoo parlors.

All chickenshit chickenhawks to the front of the line…you are going to the recruitment station to help fight this civil war for the Iraqis.

surrender to the reality of an ill-fated invasion and occupation maybe. you cannot surrender in a military sense to an amorphous entity.

  63. demdandy says:

Retreating is not surrender; it is merely a tactical move to prevent annhilation, to regroup and to counterattack. Obviously, neither McCain nor Bush nor Leiberman have studied Gen. George Washington’s campaigns. Our revered first president got whipped more than once. But he kept enough of his troops alive and together so he could strike at targets of opportunity, such as Trenton and Princeton.

Our cretin will be annhilated in Iraq. All he must do to achieve his most sought after failure is to remain there.

  64. demdandy says:

And that’s the way Bush spells it, too.

  65. demdandy says:

Speaking of annihilation…Dubya is lowering the spelling standards of America.
