You should resign.
COBURN: Mr. Attorney General, it’s my considered opinion that the exact same standards should be applied to you in how this was handled. It was handled incompetently, the communication was atrocious. It was inconsistent. It’s generous to say that there was misstatements, that’s a generous statement. And I believe you ought to suffer the consequences that these others have suffered, and I believe the best way to put this behind us is your resignation.
Watch it:

Woo hoo! Smackdown!
April 19th, 2007 at 3:30 pmAnd the new AT of Minnesota too, whose professional staff all took demotions rather than work with her…
April 19th, 2007 at 3:31 pmGONZALES: Excuse me, Senator, but can you clarify what you mean by consequences for my actions? That is a concept that is foreign to this administration.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:32 pmHe’s right! Gonzo should go *beep*
I mean it! This is crap *beep*
I can’t do this anymore *beep*
* end transmission*
April 19th, 2007 at 3:34 pmWhat is painfully apparent is that Alberto Gonzalez is hopelessly conflicted. He cannot serve both the White House and the citizens of this country with any hope of getting at the truth and having justice served by any valid definition. His discussions with the President, Harriet Myers, and Karl Rove are material. If he claims privilege, at least in my mind, it is prima facie evidence that he is still George’s attorney and not the people’s attorney.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:35 pmI listened to Coburn and I was surprised. I despised the guy when he was running for that Senate seat, but he asked Gonzales exactly the question I would have. Why shouldn’t Gonzales be held to the same professional standards as the US Attorneys he had replaced? They weren’t even told that anyone was dissatisfied with their performance and they were booted. He’s been told what he’s done wrong several times over the past couple of months and he thinks he should get to stay on no matter how much of a f*ck up he is.
Coburn’s right. Get rid of him.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:36 pmWhy does Coburn want the terorists to win?
/snark
April 19th, 2007 at 3:37 pmWe apologize for any inconvenience. RNC RoboTroll 2000 is malfunctioning. We will be back to catapult the propaganda as soon as possible.
Thank you.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:37 pmThe RNC
I heard this questioning. Coburn was great. He kicked butt.
Feinstein is asking hard questions. Guess elections have consequences.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:38 pmDavid K - guess it’s true… Gonzales cannot serve two masters.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:39 pm“Senator, After thoroughly reviewing my memory, to the best of my recollection, I do not recall”.
John Mitchell - Watergate hearings
April 19th, 2007 at 3:40 pmIt looks like the Republicans want Gonzo to be the sacrificial lamb before they go along with anything else the President wants.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:43 pmIs the AG allowed to fire the US attourneys, or does that authorization have to come from the President himself? Sorry to ask ya’ll this, but…..
I don’t recall,
April 19th, 2007 at 3:44 pmI don’t recall,
I don’t recall,
I don’t recall!
Articles of Impeachment To Be Filed On Cheney
Looks like he’s reached his boiling point.
Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), the most liberal of the Democratic presidential candidates in the primary field, declared in a letter sent to his Democratic House colleagues this morning that he plans to file articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney.
Kucinich has made ending the war in Iraq the central theme of his campaign. He has even taken aim at the leading Democratic presidential candidates in the field for their votes on authorizing the war.
Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution gives Congress the authority to impeach the president, vice president and “all civil Officers of the United States” for “treason, bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”
Sources tell the Sleuth that in light of the mass killings at Virginia Tech Monday, Kucinich’s impeachment plans have been put on hold. There will be no action this week, they say.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:46 pmBut if he resigns we might have to talk about the war…
April 19th, 2007 at 3:46 pmWhooosh!
The sound of air escaping from Fredo’s beautiful balloon….
April 19th, 2007 at 3:46 pmHatch is up again. Gee, Orrin, you could save some time by just reading Gonzales’ answers off of the script yourself.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:52 pmHave these senators forgotten who attacked us obn 9/11??
April 19th, 2007 at 3:53 pmUnexpected help/cooperation coming from the republican side.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:54 pmNo, he should not resign. He should be fired. Resignation implies he had a choice.
Since he fired a number of people who actually had good performance reviews, he should be let go for the “heckuva job” he’s doing.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:54 pmHmmm, let’s see… thousands of emails got wiped away - by mistake…. and “memory fails me.”
‘Looks like this Administration has started “The Long Goodbye.”
April 19th, 2007 at 3:56 pmYou are right, we should remind them that it was 15 Saudis and 4 from the UAE.
April 19th, 2007 at 3:57 pmNo Iraqis.
April 19th, 2007 at 4:06 pmI was literally shocked by Mr. Coburn’s fairness and honesty. I had no idea that the man had any justice in his heart at all. I will be carefully watching him. I was very very impressed with him!!!
April 19th, 2007 at 4:14 pmYeah, I was impressed by Coburn as well. Gonzales had a really bad day today. He has no one to blame but himself. The man is a lying weasel.
April 19th, 2007 at 4:19 pmLike Barbara Boxer said a few week ago, “Elections have consequences.” This is just the tip of the iceberg.
C-H-U-R-C-H
April 19th, 2007 at 4:23 pmSam? wake up dude, he’s long gone…….
April 19th, 2007 at 4:27 pmGonzales….what a sleazy little bastard.
If this is the best that America can offer, then we are truly doomed, and rightly so.
April 19th, 2007 at 4:33 pmfrom DOJ straight to halliburton.
April 19th, 2007 at 4:39 pmCOBURN: Mr.
He’s right. And if now those of his party would be able to substitute the name of Bush (and Cheney) in the above description of behaviors that have consequences to be suffered, we could move along to impeachment and conviction of same.
April 19th, 2007 at 4:44 pmCool! An Oklahoma Senator with a brain! I haven’t seen that often enough lately.
April 19th, 2007 at 4:44 pmToo bad our Congress isn’t more like Taiwan’s parliament - this thing could’ve turned into a knock-down drag out brawl…that’d spike yer CSpan ratings for sure.
April 19th, 2007 at 5:41 pmI wonder what’s going on in Bush’s mind. He’s probably thinking something like, “Man, what’s going on? These Republican Senators are Republicans. They work for me. I’m the boss of the country and the Republicans. I need to ask Dick how I can fire them.”
April 19th, 2007 at 6:27 pmGonzo is not helping any stereotypes that people associate with Hispanics.
April 19th, 2007 at 6:36 pm#34 - What the hell does that have to do with anything?
April 19th, 2007 at 6:50 pmSorry Alejandro,
I knew this would be controversial.
There are stereotypes out there that Hispanics are lyers and kanivers. I don’t know where you live, but here in AZ those are some of the stereotypes.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:04 pmRed neck republicans think Mexicans are stupid. Gonzo is just solidifing that for the red necks.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:05 pmDown in Mexico the ladies expect the men to go out and cheat on them.
Its part of the culture.
The truth can hurt.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:07 pmGonzo took the oath
Gonzo apologised to the 8 attorneys and their families
Gonzo changed his story
Gonzo admitted he made mistakes
Gonzo said he talked to Bush and Rove
Gonzo is Gonzo
April 19th, 2007 at 8:12 pmThankfully, I married an honorable, faithful, feminist Mexican!!!
April 19th, 2007 at 11:33 pmBut you’re right, in Mexico, it is most often the case.
Did Gonzalez attend Pat Robertson’s law school as well? :P
April 20th, 2007 at 9:00 amDump Him.
April 20th, 2007 at 10:13 amIF he let go of all those people, AND that was the wrong thing to do, AND those people All get their jobs back,
THEN
He should consider stepping down, writing a book and finding a new job.
Before they Dump Him.
Lets not forget that the US attorneys in question serve at the pleasure of the president. Bush could wake up one morning and fire them all for no reason. Thats the way it works. There has been no crime committed here.
April 20th, 2007 at 10:20 amThere has been no crime committed here.
That’s right. I believe that point was even made at the beginning of the hearings. I don’t think anyone is claiming there was a crime committed.
Using bullet points aren’t going to help you understand what’s taking place here. You’d need to listen to historians or pop open a book or newspaper to follow along.
April 20th, 2007 at 10:48 am2 things:
1: In all the clips I’ve seen of these hearings, Gonzales looks like he is on the verge of having the giggles.
2: Alberto Gonzales could totally out bench-press The Honorable Tom Coburn and all those sissies sitting at that hearing. Don’t discount that. It’s important.
