Approval through osmosis.»

The White House issued a statement yesterday saying that President Bush was “pleased with the Attorney General’s testimony.” But as CBS legal analyst Andrew Cohen notes:

Given Mr. Bush’s travel plans Thursday — he flew to Ohio and was gone from Washington from 11:10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. — it’s unclear to me whether or how the President even could have watched the testimony that he later endorsed so heartily. And, indeed, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told CBS News this morning that the President was “updated” on the Gonzales hearing but that she does not know whether Mr. Bush actually saw any part of the proceedings.

Cohen adds that Gonzales’ performance was “among the worst I have ever seen offered by a public official on Capitol Hill.”

Digg It!

  2. Zooey Says:

That’s just it, isn’t it? Abu G put on a performance, rather than testifying properly, and it backfired on him BIGTIME.

  3. GSD Says:

Ah yes, what was Bush saying about “restoring honor and dignity to the Whitehouse”?

At least Gonzales has set the bar low for criminals everywhere.

  4. PTF Says:

Remember, Mr. Bush had to see Katrina’s damage after aides compiled news reports and put them on a DVD for him.

  5. hellinabucket Says:

This is typical Bush, he let’s others give him advise and then stands in front of the public with that shit eating grin with long pauses and tells us how he “feels” about it.

He just can’t fathom that the people giving him advise could be wrong. Further separating his views from reality.

How can anyone assume it went well when another member of the same party related the testimony to clubbing seals. Unless Cheney is the one that gave Bush the update. Then, of course, it was fine.

the final pronouncement comes from the wapo’s dana milbank…

Alberto Gonzales’s tenure as attorney general was pronounced dead at 3:02 p.m. yesterday by Tom Coburn, M.D.

    […]

Gonzales had weeks to prepare for yesterday’s hearing. But the man who sat at the witness table sounded like the sort of person who forgets where he parked his car.

    […]

Take Gonzales’s tally along with that of his former chief of staff, who uttered the phrase “I don’t remember” 122 times before the same committee three weeks ago, and the Justice Department might want to consider handing out Ginkgo biloba in the employee cafeteria.

    […]

For much of the very long day, the attorney general responded like a child caught in a lie. He shifted his feet under the table, balled his hands into fists and occasionally pointed at his questioners.

yes, it was truly a pathetic display… i have to ask myself, if a more serious line of questioning had been pursued during gonzo’s confirmation hearing, would he be attorney general today…? i think not…

And, yes, I DO take it personally

  8. Buck Fush Says:

Yeah, he saw his testimony, just like he saw the FIRST plane hit the first tower….”that must of been an awful pilot.”
This unelected idiot just so sucks a$$, and all you repukes that support this idiot also suck a$$.

    Hating the Repuke Mafia daily.

  9. Some Guy Says:

Dana Perino (what she really wants to say): What does it matter what that idiot thinks about the testimony–Karl and I agree, the ‘President is pleased with Gonzales’ testimony.’ Ok?

  10. Art Says:

He is just saying what Karl told him to say.

  11. auel Says:

The idiot corporate democrats who confirmed this slug several years back still really just don’t get it and neither does the public. This man is a sociopathic operative installed to institute the completion of a methodical, deliberate and highly secretive overthrow of a democratic system of justice.

The Media of course which both intentionally and inadvertently runs cover for this ongoing coup de’tat has made this into a personality and incompetence issue. It is most assuredly neither.

True, Gonzalez is picked from that 5% of the population which is congenitally sociopathic and chronically lies and cons as a primary means of expression. But this little man is merely an agent of the white house. A Capo.

Whether he stays or goes is of little significance. It misses the point. The focus must be turned now to the source, the ‘orders from Berlin’.nI nearly vomited last night listening to NPR. They have become a propaganda wing of the Coup.

They know well that their plug would be pulled if they did any serious investigative reporting and thier celebrities have all bought into their own multi-million dollar,book-selling status. They wouldn’t know a real crime story if it sat right down on their face. Just imagine alone how many of those weekend alcoholics who hobnob with power have saved hundreds of thousands in personal tax cuts over these 6 years since the Coup was installed

It’s amazing that you can barely see Karl’s lips move when Bush talks…..

    now THAT’s talent

Wow. A reporter actually doing the job of digging behind the gloss put on the White House spin, How soon do you think they will start swift boating CBS’ legal analyst?

Or; What does it matter what anyone thinks of Gonzoles testimony, we didn’t hire him for his skills, we hired him to #1 be a yes man, and #2 follow chiimpy’s example and lie lie lie. Chimpy is the decision, and he consulted himself, and Alberto is staying.

  16. VerbalKint Says:

Bush is looking more isolated than ever. Hasn’t anyone told bubble boy yet that Gonzo must go?

  17. PTFF Says:

“…He is just saying what Karl told him to say…”

It has long been alleged that Bush may be wearing a wire/speech prompter.

Looking through various contracts with the White House, I see a contract with a company that could provide this service.

Also consider Gonzales’ testimony yesterday. He was polished up until the point that Senators began passing documents down to him. Each and every time, he flubbed those.

    Was Gonzales wired too?

  18. FTGOP Says:

    Heckofa job Gonzo!

Dear Amnesia General Alberto, You are no Wayne Newton…

    Donkey shame, darling, donkey shame…

  20. Mr. Flibble Says:

Well, by Bush’s standards Gonzo is the epitome of articulate expression. It’s easy to be pleased when one has a low bar.

That’s if one wants to be charitable.

If one wants to be realistic, Bush is pleased because Gonzo has done everything Bush/Rove wanted (except for getting caught). With such an effective employee as Abu G, getting rid of him would be stupid.

  21. Republicans are the Fear and Smear Party Says:

More delusional statements from Bush. He is also “pleased” with the “progress” in Iraq.

  22. Devil's Advocate Says:

Gonzo is his accomplice and his errand boy. He has been loyal to the Royal Shrub for a very long time. Like the Mafia Boss that he is, Shrubby won’t throw his boy under the bus.
