  5. Zimzone says:

    Is that a plane?
No, it’s Abu Gonzo, faster than a talking lawyer,
    stronger than Dick Cheney’s deodorant,
and as intelligent as his President!

    Look out, Democrats! He’s here to fight crime and…(damn, I can’t recall!)…

  6. Exley says:

    “He’s our No. 1 crimefighter.”

Followed by Batman and the Green Lantern.

  7. Vet says:

These people are truly living in a f’ing bubble!

I’m guessing his costume has a dollar sign on the chest…

  8. teryy says:

I would retort that he is our number 1 criminal, but he is probabl,y only in the top 10. Has anybody suggested to the Senate Judiciary Committee that they might have gotten better information if they had waterboarded Gonzales?

  9. M3Vega says:

There’s no need to fear, Underdog is here.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
    Underdog, Underdog!

  10. profmarcus says:

“crime” as defined by karl rove…?

And, yes, I DO take it personally

  11. Raven says:

    “Hi I’m Captain Gonzo!
What seems to be the trouble here, kiddos?
    Really?… wow…
    When? … holy smokes…
Ok, well, I’ll get right on it….”

(……..Ummm, what did you say the trouble was?………)

  12. Shane says:

Not because I find Dana Perino as tiresome as a room full of first graders but is Tony Snow coming back to work?

  13. Abby says:

Does the White House know that Gonzo is supposed to be divorced from BushCo and not supposed to be part of their inner circle? I doubt it.

In any case, this sounds too much like, “Gonzo’s doing a Heck of a Job” to me. He better start packing his bags.

  14. eternal springs says:

    I need a bucket…

  15. Coffins Draped with Flags says:

She misspoke… she meant to say “He is one of our top crime committers”.

  16. Raven says:

    #7.
only because the Riddler already has dibs on the question mark…..

  17. Alberto Gonzalez says:

Yeah…I’m a big fan of Captain Renault.
Major Strasser has been shot. Round up the usual suspects.

  18. Raven says:

On the plane to Michigan, where Dana effused over the heroic crime fighter, one of the last questions was (paraphrased):

“Is the President getting tired of expressing his ‘full confidence’ in all those around him..?”

  19. Dick -Shotgun- Cho-ney says:

    Really?

    Best at battling corruption?

So why is Dubya and Dick still in office?

    Best at battling terrorism?

Really why do ALL reports say terrorism is on the rise?

Wow right wing idiots are really sucking this crap up and believe it hook line and sinker.Well guess when you believe in world floods, virgin births, and resurrections you’ll believe anything.

  20. Marie says:

    Crime fighter, eh?
Criminals to the right of him,
criminals to the left of him,
right in front of him, in the white house,
but he is the crime fighter?
    Gimme a break.

  21. Lupeyg2 says:

He’s such a good crime fighter that he’s beat every single criminal out there with his stealthy intelligence and he’s creating crime himself so that he has something to do…job security. The question is, can he capture his inner criminal. Check back next week…same bat-sh*t crazy time, same bat-sh*t crazy channel. (unless, of course, Bushy pulls the plug on our entertainment and Gonzo suddenly “resigns” to spend more time celebrating Nation Meth Day).

  22. ann says:

Why, yes, Abu has gone after such scary criminals as businessmen who run legal businesses in other countries (recent spate of online gambling charges) and pornographers. Making Americans safer from themselves everyday!

  23. michael says:

The mainstream media is usually just attacking ONE person at a time, not ALL those around him.

  24. Raven says:

Mr. Exley, I’m disturbed by your obvious bigotry towards men in strange costumes, masks and dual identities………..

  25. Raven says:

And why are all the personages around GWB being attacked?
Could it have something to do with their general incompetence?

  26. PAL says:

In the past, Bush has thrown Harriet Miers and Mike Brown under the bus. Eventually he’ll do the same for Gonzo.

  27. GSD says:

He can dodge a barrage of truths in a single hearing.

    He’s SuperPud.

    -GSD

  28. quietnoise says:

whatever he has on Bush must be really really good.

  29. Kate Henry says:

“He’s our No. 1 crimefighter.” God help us. I weep for what we have become.

  30. Marie says:

#29 belongs on the Imus thread – sorry.

  31. unbelievable says:

I realize thatt he word ‘crimefighter’ is similar to the word ‘criminal’, but Dana, dear, they aren’t synonyms…

P.S. Dana, to save you the agony of thinking about it – Abu is the latter

  32. Barfly says:

Has anybody suggested to the Senate Judiciary Committee that they might have gotten better information if they had waterboarded Gonzales? Comment by teryy

Kryptonite! Waterboarding only works on mortals.

  33. unbelievable says:

I’m guessing his costume has a dollar sign on the chest…
    Comment by Vet — April 20, 2007 @ 4:24 pm

    LOL… No doubt.

  34. Jay says:

Yes, and Cheney is the nation’s most credible advocate of peace and justice.

  35. michael says:

I doubt it, Raven. Scandals sell newspapers.

  36. michael says:

Was President Truman an “advocate of peace and justice” when he dropped 2 atom bombs on Japan?

  37. lestatdelc says:

    Quick Karl.. to the Batcave!!!!

  38. lestatdelc says:

#36 good point. Guess Bush should help himself by not having his administration behave in criminal, incompetent fashion, then there would be no scandals.

BTW, on the previous thread, I pointed out that FDR, throughout WWII still had to go back to Congress e very 6 months to report and ask for continued authorization and funding for the war, you are aware of that, yes?

  39. Namtillaku says:

Capeetan Gonzalezeesimo & Boy Turdblossom, and their pet Chimpy. Three of the most powerful people in the world.

  40. michael says:

According to Democrats, Clinton did not behave in a criminal, incompetent fashion, and he still had scandals. I did not know that about FDR, but I am not saying Congress lacks the power to directly defund the war in Iraq. Evidently, they lack the will.

  41. michael, Jake, j.j., ct, Patrick1, firehead, Valiant Venus, & Captain Kirk says:

    Truman did it, too!

  42. big papa says:

…and crime has NEVER been better…

    hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

  43. Karim says:

Ms. Perino, please don’t make me laugh.

  44. Keith H. says:

    Oh . . . Dana . . . I understand completely.

And he fights that crime . . . just they way you tell him to, right?

I.e., if The Joker is actually commiting the crime(s) . . . and you tell
Super Gonzo to go after, say . . . The Penguin instead . . . that, in itself makes him your #1 man, correct ?

  45. Wayne says:

    Clinton….
    Comment by michael

Still obsessed with themighty Clenis I see.

Sure you’re not a closeted gay?

  46. Jay says:

    michael,

Since comparing the current maladministration’s war on Iraq to Hiroshima and Nagasaki is like comparing apples to beach balls, I probably shouldn’t even go down this road, but…..

I’m pretty sure it was the Japanese that attacked Pearl Harbor. What exactly did Iraq do to provoke the Cheney admin to lie the nation to war, invade, occupy and slaughter hundreds of thousands of its people? Oh, yeah, how did our oil get under their sand? I forgot.

  47. kdaddy says:

Doolittle has been doing alot. Unfortunately for him, most of it’s been nefarious, and the chickens
are about to come home to roost. For his palpable future I see microphones, crying, aplogies,
and a number for a name.

  48. west virginia hillbilly says:

Is that, number 1 crime fighter, or number crime family?

  49. michael says:

I think, Jay, that after the lesson of 9/11, we weren’t willing to wait anymore for Saddam’s smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud.

  50. Shane says:

we weren’t willing to wait anymore for Saddam’s smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud.

    Comment by michael — April 20, 2007 @ 5:28 pm

    smoking gun = water balloon

  51. TerrytheTurtle says:

Care to source that strawman michael? It would be a far more intelligent comment if you could prove it.

  52. michael says:

No, Shane, a nuclear explosion carries just a little more impact than a water balloon.

Jay, you asked “What exactly did Iraq do to provoke the Cheney admin to lie the nation to war, invade, occupy and slaughter hundreds of thousands of its people?” I think I answered that question, but if you have a follow-up, please let me know.

  53. KRank says:

Jay, please try not to engage michael. He’s a troll, familiar under many names on this site, and his specialty, among other favorite tactics, is sticking to ridiculous assertions in order to draw attention away from the subject of the thread.

He’s successful at this because he adopts a false front of what might be called “reasonable disagreement” but it’s dishonest because, as the ground under him is washed away by intelligent arguments and facts, he simply keeps shifting the real estate on which he grounds his claims. The claims grow ever more ridiculous, but he doesn’t notice or doesn’t care, because he’s not really arguing what he believes; he’s simply aiming to waste time and bandwidth.

He can be neutralized by ignoring him, at which point he usually melts away into the groundcover that serves as his troll home.

I know it’s impossible for everyone in this community to ignore trolls like this, since newcomers will always feel the urge to confront obvious misconceptions, and others just enjoy kicking the crap out of hapless ideologues. but the more of us who stand silnetly by with bemused smiles as we watch the trolls scream for attention, the better.

  54. big papa says:

we weren’t willing to wait anymore for Saddam’s smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud.

    Comment by michael #50

    …so we’ve decided to create our own…

    …over the ME…

  55. michael says:

Source what “strawman” TerrytheTurtle? You want an Administration source for the proposition that they weren’t going to wait for the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud?

  56. Namtillaku says:

    Michael;

then why did we start a war with a country with no nuclear weapons, no nuke programs, and give up trying to apprehend OBL?

  57. Trekkie says:

I think, Jay, that after the lesson of 9/11, we weren’t willing to wait anymore for Saddam’s smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud.

    ERROR…ERROR…DOES NOT COMPUTE…

Wow…I thought it was only the people deluded beyond hope that still bought this tripe.

    Well, them and the President…

  58. TerrytheTurtle says:

Saddam with nuclear weapon attacks United States… strawman used as fearmongering in 2003 SOTU. Prove that it is anything other than a strawman. I want you to prove that Saddam had a nuke ready or nearly ready to launch at the US. Go.

  59. Jay says:

Yes, a mushroom cloud. A Global War on Terror (or should I call it a global struggle against Muslim extremists?), fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them here since as you know, they’re trying to destroy our way of life with their weapons of mass destruction and their endless supply of high-ranking “Al Qaeda” leader’s (haven’t we killed all of them by now?).

Some people just can’t resist expensive marketing coupled with a strong authority figure.

    There’s one born every minute.

  60. powkat says:

What’s his superpower? Maybe he can make US Attorneys disappear at will. Or confound powerful men in only 3 words (I don’t recall). Or practice blind loyalty unto (professional) death.

Ooh, ooh, I know, michael – he forgot where he put the weapons of mass destruction and Bush is keeping him on until he remembers.

  61. Shane says:

No, Shane, a nuclear explosion carries just a little more impact than a water balloon.

    Comment by michael — April 20, 2007 @ 5:37 pm

Michael, aren’t you quite the master of the obvious. Unfortunately, those wmds your referring to don’t exist. Keep up numbnutz.

  62. michael says:

TerrytheTurtle and Trekkie, I never claimed that Saddam had a nuke ready or nearly ready to launch at the U.S. I agreed with the Bush Administration that we could not afford to wait until that happened. This was a “just war” IMO.

  63. Jay says:

    KRank,

Thanks. I’ve been hanging on the progressive blogs for many years and I’m well aware of the dynamics, the trolls and their name-changing games, distraction, etc. It’s cool, I usually ignore them but some days I itch to engage them. They don’t generally last more than a few questions since they’re so full of shi*… Can’t help myself.

  64. michael says:

Is there a follow-up question in any of that, Jay?

  65. Yikes says:

Michael, aren’t you quite the master of the obvious. Unfortunately, those wmds your referring to don’t exist. Keep up numbnutz.

    Comment by Shane — April 20, 2007 @ 5:44 pm

Like hell! Just the other day I made several water balloons, but you will never find them!

  66. TerrytheTurtle says:

Oh and michael please don’t rely on Dick Cheney’s flat out lie “we believe he has reconstituted nuclear weapons”.

Don’t expect me to hang about waiting for you – my request was of course rhetorical, you’ve never proved anything ever on this board, you are off topic too. My five year gets out of school soon – maybe you’d like to yell “did so” at him for a bit since that’s your debating level. I’ve better things to do than watch you spear in again.

  67. michael says:

If you’re asking what Saddam’s superpower is, powcat? None because he’s dead. I never said Gonzales has a superpower either.

  68. michael says:

Oh, O.K., TerrytheTurtle, I thought you were asking a real question. Have fun with the 5 year old then.

  69. Wayne says:

Stronger than a wet ramien noodle.
Can leap higher than a street curb.
working for untruth, injustice and the neocon way.
    It’s Bendeho Man!!

  70. lestatdelc says:

    #37 so is Cheney President?

  71. Jay says:

    Yes michael,

Here’s my follow up question. Name three efforts the CheneyBush administration has undertaken that you would deem a success? Please be specific.

  72. KRank says:

That’s cool, Jay. I know the temptation myself and sometimes I yield to it. When I do, what stops me quickly is the realization that it’s no more effective than yelling at the TV.

  73. lestatdelc says:

#41 so you are saying the FDR hated the troops, or that Congress during WWII hated the troops?

Did the GOP Congress hate the troops when it defuned operations in Somolia while Clinton was in office?

  74. michael says:

    1) Stopping federal funding for additional stem-cell research.

    2) Getting strict constructionists on the Supreme Court.

    3) Banning partial-birth abortion.

    Next question?

  75. lestatdelc says:

#53 Really Michael, where exactly did you answer the question. I must have missed it.

  76. Namtillaku says:

I never claimed that Saddam had a nuke ready or nearly ready to launch at the U.S. I agreed with the Bush Administration that we could not afford to wait until that happened. This was a “just war” IMO.

    Comment by michael — April 20, 2007 @ 5:47 pm

By your logic, all Chimpy has to do is say that Morocco has nukes, and we can’t wait for the nuke to be the smoking gun, then we can invade them.

Your definition of a ‘just war’ suffers as well. Invading a country based on a lie is hardly just.

  77. michael says:

    No, lestatdelc.

  78. Jay says:

    michael,

To be honest, I thought you were joking when you wrote:

“I think, Jay, that after the lesson of 9/11, we weren’t willing to wait anymore for Saddam’s smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud.”

…if you weren’t, the Kool-aid has been mixed extra strength for you. If you really believe that than you clearly believe that the mainstream media has a “liberal bias” which is another rightwing fallacy. What brings you over to the light?

You’re not starting to have doubts about the thoughts that Rush and Hannity have been feeding you…right?

  79. lestatdelc says:

#78 So we can dispense with the GOP talking points that defunding this war is being against the troops, yes?

  80. Jay says:

    michael,

Your answers @75 are all I need to know. I’ll take Wedge Issues for $600 Alex.

  81. Spudge_Boy says:

This was a “just war” IMO.

    Comment by michael — April 20, 2007 @ 5:47 pm

Then why did you put it in quotes? You use quotes when it is something you don’t buy into. Like when I say the “war” in Iraq, because I know it is an illegal occupation.

  82. michael says:

Were my answers not specific enough for you, Jay? I thought of those all by myself, without listening to Rush or Hannity. I did get the following “just war” criteria from Richard Land, whose letter asserted that a pre-emptive invasion of Iraq met the criteria of traditional ‘just war’ theory because:

    1) Such an action would be defensive.

    2) The intent is found to be just and noble. The United States does not intend to ‘destroy, conquer, or exploit Iraq’

    3) It is a last resort because Saddam Hussein had a record of attacking his neighbors, of the ‘headlong pursuit and development of biochemical and nuclear weapons of mass destruction’ and their use against his own people, and harboring al-Qaeda terrorists.

    4) It is authorized by a legitimate authority, namely the United States.

    5) It has limited goals.

    6) It had reasonable expectation of success.

    7) Non-combatant immunity would be observed.

    8) It meets the criteria of proportionality — the human cost on both sides would be justified by the intended outcome.

  83. common sense says:

Your definition of a ‘just war’ sufers as well. Invading a country based on a lie is hardly just.

    Comment by Namtillaku — April 20, 2007 @ 5:59 pm

While I agree, I think attacking another country for ANY reason other than defense is criminal, you don’t kill thousands just because you “think” someone may harm you. Especially when we call ourselves bastions of freedom and a peaceful nation.

Michael suffers from bed wetters disorder aka severe paranoia over risks that simply do not exist.

  84. TomR says:

‘He’s our No. 1 crimefighter.’– White House spokesperson Dana Perino on Alberto Gonzales today.

Gonzo’s hot on his own trail. Can’t wait to see how this turns out!

    - Tom

  85. michael says:

Sorry, Namtillaku, but I had missed your post back there. Please review my definition of ‘just war’ and then you can clue Spudge Boy in on the concept.

  86. common sense says:

    1) Such an action would be defensive.

—- When did Iraq attack us again? I must have missed that.

    2) The intent is found to be just and noble. The United States does not intend to ‘destroy, conquer, or exploit Iraq’

    — Then why did many of our allies decide to opt out of this invasion? Or those currently there number in the 100’s, other than Britain and they will be leaving this summer if I remember corectly.

    3) It is a last resort because Saddam Hussein had a record of attacking his neighbors, of the ‘headlong pursuit and development of biochemical and nuclear weapons of mass destruction’ and their use against his own people, and harboring al-Qaeda terrorists.

    — since when did the USA become a neighbor? Saddam couldn’t have invaded Oz his military was so weak.

    4) It is authorized by a legitimate authority, namely the United States.

—- hahahahahahahaha ok Hitler authorized the invasion of Poland, he and his followers said the same thing.

    5) It has limited goals.

    — Oil, and billions for the MIC

    6) It had reasonable expectation of success.

    — No all one has to do is look at history of trying to occupy another nation.

    7) Non-combatant immunity would be observed.

    — no we blow them all up, men, women, children, armed, unarmed, awake, asleep..

    8) It meets the criteria of proportionality — the human cost on both sides would be justified by the intended outcome.

    — No human cost was worth starting something we could never win, even with a draft, and 10,000,000 troops. Unless we have complete genocide.

    Comment by michael — April 20, 2007 @ 6:14 pm

    You’re a fool.

  87. Trekkie says:

    1) Stopping federal funding for additional stem-cell research.

Yes, because discarding unused stem cells is so much better…

    2) Getting strict constructionists on the Supreme Court.

Roberts – supported “gag orders” preventing physicians at family planning clinics from discussing abortion as a condition to receive federal funding, abrogated state’s rights by declaring that a voter-passed assisted suicide law could be struck down over nebulous “federal concerns”, sided with a developer who was going to destroy the habitat of a species of toad designated as “Endangered” by the federal government.

Alito – Senator Tom Cobrun (R-OK) has stated on the record that Alito has a record of “legislating from the bench”. Made it easier for employers to get sex discrimination cases dismissed, tried to immunize employers who terminate or refuse to hire employees based on race,

    3) Banning partial-birth abortion.

When the five justices who wrote the majority get their medical degrees I may decide to listen to them. Right now, the opinion stands for the proposition that women have no business making decisions about their own bodies and that a lay court has more knowledge than trained OB-GYNs about what procedures are “medically necessary”.

  88. michael says:

If you refrain from leveling personal attacks, “common sense” I would be happy to discuss each criteria in turn.

  89. michael says:

Sorry, Trekkie, but Jay asked ME for three specific efforts the CheneyBush administration had undertaken that I would deem a success. YMMV.

  90. common sense says:

Michael, there’s nothing to discuss, we had no right to attack another country that had nothing to do with 9-11. Nothing you say holds weight. If you can’t handle me attacking you, then perhaps you shouldn’t advocate violence so much yourself. We attacked a weakened military, financially distraught, and most importantly the will of Saddams military was broken. You can spout all your crap about who can do us harm, and you know what it looks more like N. Korea posing a real threat to friendly nations, and next in the worlds most dangerous terrorist group is the GOP who have sold America to corporate interests, telling you it’s about freedom, and jesus.

We’re in Iraq for oil, you don’t even have the balls to admit that. Hope you’re enjoying $3.00 for a gallon, while the oil company makes record profits telling us it’s the future of oil we’re selling you now.

  91. Mr. Bush Goes To Hell says:

    He’s the #1 “crime fighter”.

And I should KNOW since I’m the #1 WAR CRIMINAL.

And HE’S one of us WAR CRIMINALS! Heh heh heh! Torture, lies, illegal spyin’. I LIKE the cut of his jib! Heh heh heh!

See you in hell AbuGonzo (cause I’LL be THERE),

    Mr. Bush
    MURDEROUS WAR CRIMINAL
COXUCKER PUNK TRAITOR TO THE USA (TM)

  92. michael says:

    To: “common sense”

Why didn’t Saddam and his sons accept our ultimatum then?

  93. Namtillaku says:

Jake – lying about the reasons for war in Iraq, and effectively giving up the search for OBL means that it is NOT a just war.

  94. TerrytheTurtle says:

Those three Bush successes that mikey picked do say a lot about what he thinks is important….says more about mikey than anything else.

  95. Zooey says:

To be fair, the White House didn’t say Gonzo was the BEST crime fighter — just their “No. 1″ crimefighter. Naturally, their No. 1 crimefighter would come from the bottom of the barrel.

  96. Spudge_Boy says:

Why didn’t Saddam and his sons accept our ultimatum then?

    Comment by michael — April 20, 2007 @ 6:46 pm

He did and we went in anyway, after we told the UN inspectors out.

  97. michael says:

    I could keep going, TerrytheTurtle:

    4) Deposed Saddam

    5) Tax cuts

    6) Medicare reform

  98. Zooey says:

    Jake,

Why are you stealing that troll’s name? Don’t deny it.

  99. big papa says:

Bad news for Mikey, vapid vagina, Rogue Rogue, j.ar j.ar (crackhead) et al…

    …IMPEACHMENT is on the way…

…just LISTEN to YOUR political “strategists” and pundits…

    …in the MSM…

…Not the Limpballs and Fox propagandist suiciders…

…but the ones who want to work/survive after Bushiva and L’il Dick are gone…

  100. michael says:

That’s right, Vermont voted for impeachment and DAMNIT they will secede and take all the Ben and Jerry’s with them if Congress won’t do the same!!

  101. michael says:

    LOL!!!!

Both Baghdad Bob and Shaltout claim that in March of 2003, just as they was to read the Iraqi government’s official reply to the Bush ultimatum on Al-Jazeera, the broadcast was interrupted and “the plug was pulled on the transmission.”

    That’s a good one.

  102. Raven says:

Not to mention all the sharp cheddar and the maple syrup….

  103. Briseadh na Faire says:

we weren’t willing to wait anymore for Saddam’s smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud.

    Comment by michael — April 20, 2007 @ 5:28 pm

So, you can be totally controlled by anyone who plays on your fears.

But, don’t say “we.” Some of us were able to discern even back then that the Bush Administration was fear-mongering in order to drum up support for going to war when war was unnecessary. “We” didn’t buy the lie. YOU did.

  104. michael says:

Luckily, Raven, Wisconsin ain’t going no where . . .

  105. Juan C says:

    ‘He’s our No. 1 crimefighter.’
    – White House spokesperson Dana Perino on Alberto Gonzales today.

kind of when Rick Moranis finally got into the Ghostbuster suit.

  106. michael says:

Also, Briseadh na Faire, I don’t think it was a “lie” at the time. It was the best intelligence estimate WE (yes, that means the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA) had. President Bush declared at the time “We cannot wait for the final proof: the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud.” Michael Gerson, President Bush’s top speechwriter, wrote that line. Did you know when Gerson left the White House, he was hired by the Washington Post as a columnist? Can I at least include the Washington Post as “WE”?

Exactly my thoughts. He suddenly wrote a 4 line comment. Strange.

Both Baghdad Bob and Shaltout claim that in March of 2003, just as they was to read the Iraqi government’s official reply to the Bush ultimatum on Al-Jazeera, the broadcast was interrupted and “the plug was pulled on the transmission.”

    That’s a good one.

And TRUE, too. Heh heh heh!!

Cause I’m a LIAR and a WAR CRIMINAL, and Dick told ‘em to pull it.

No, it was the best cherry-picked intelligence we had…

  113. michael says:

Sorry, guys, but BucketsofBlood said I should just ignore anyone calling me “Jake” and stay on the topic. No one has refuted my first point on this thread: Attorney General Gonzales IS the chief law enforcement officer of the United States. I think Dana Perino is right on.

  114. Jay says:

    michael,

Would you concede that geopolitics had more weight on the decision to invade Iraq than did “planting the seeds of democracy in the Middle East”?

  115. Briseadh na Faire says:

Gonzales is our Number One Crimefighter!

He’s the man who authored a redefinition of torture, taking us back to the Middle Ages.

He’s behind the Military Commissions Act, trashing 800 years of common law Habeas Corpus.

Let’s face it, he fought crime by legalizing crimes. Waterboarding is akin to assault and battery. Holding a person against his/her will indefinitely is akin to kidnapping. But, since the government is doing it, it’s all legal, under the Military Commissions Act!

Look at all the torturers who have been insulated from criminal prosecution. If that isn’t crime fighting, I don’t know what is!

And look how Republican white-collar corruption has dropped off during Bush’s Administration. Why, it’s practically non-existent! Proof that Gonzales is successful at fighting Republicans’ corruption!

And voter fraud! Almost no cases of voter fraud! Under Gonzales, the DoJ has aggressively investigated allegations of voter fraud, but found it to be practically non-existent. Another success at fighting crime!

And, as proof that his work against illegal immigrants is paying dividends, there have been virtually no arrests of major employers for hiring illegal immigrants!

  117. Mr. Bush Goes To Hell says:

So Gonzales IS the Attorney General.

    TRUE.

And a LIAR, WAR CRIMINAL and TRAITOR to the USA.

    ALSO TRUE.

Washington Post bought the lie as well. You conveniently ignore the Downing Street Memos.

Let’s face it, anyone who can stir up your fears can control you. You will spend the rest of your life being controlled by others.

  119. michael says:

Sure, Jay, as soon as you answer my question whether President Truman was an “advocate of peace and justice” when he dropped 2 atom bombs on Japan?

  120. Spudge_Boy says:

    This:

Attorney General Gonzales IS the chief law enforcement officer of the United States.

    and this:

    “He’s our No. 1 crimefighter.”

Mean two different things. The Sheriff of Los Angeles County is the chief law enforcement officer, but he is not the no. 1 crimefighter, that would be the street deputies. Deputies work for a living, the sheriff, just like Gonzo, deosn’t do squat to actually fight crime dumb a$$.

    Comment by michael — April 20, 2007 @ 7:38 pm

You’re confusing a title with function. Yes, Gonzales is the Attorney General. But that doesn’t necessarily make him a crimefighter. Hence your conclusion is not supported by your evidence.

However, no one can refute what you think, even though what you think is wrong. You are free to continue to think based on fallacious reasoning.

And that is another reason why you are being controlled by others. Since you lack the capacity to reason, you are controlled by those who can use fallacious reasoning to play on your fears. And you won’t know the difference.

Jake is a total ass, and a frickin’ coward. There are several reasons why we know this is not the troll michael, which are (1) use of the Cap key; (2) non-constant use of the “?” key, and (3) Jake doesn’t even bother to try to change his style or pattern.

  128. Jay says:

    @124,

  141. michael says:

Thank God that only Maxine Waters is left to target, big papa.

Jay, I think bringing democracy to the Middle East WAS part of the geopolitics. Just like it was for Japan and Germany after WWII.

Krank, I don’t think it’s false and you don’t want to refute. I understand that.

Sorry, Briseadh na Faire, but I’m not avoiding you, and I’m not confusing a title with function. Name ONE other #1 federal crime fighter and then I will point out that Gonzales is his boss. Wouldn’t THAT be supported by the evidence (at least until the Witch Hunt forces him to resign)?

  142. michael says:

Good luck with that mass impeachment, Sandy Geeeee.

  143. michael says:

Sorry, big papa, I was wrong. Lee managed to get re-elected in the 9th District even though she’s a traitor for conveying messages and documents to Maurice Bishop while working for Congressman Dellums prior to the U.S. invasion of Grenada. Hopefully, next time.

Name ONE other #1 federal crime fighter and then I will point out that Gonzales is his boss.

    Comment by michael — April 20, 2007 @ 9:45 pm

But you’re still confusing title with function. For example, name one criminal Gonzales has personally prosecuted to conviction while in his capacity as Attorney General.

Gonzales is no more the highest ranked crime fighter than Bush is the top soldier, than the Secretary of Education is the best teacher or the Secretary of Agriculture the number one farmer.

  146. michael says:

Gonzales is too important of a crime fighter to be personally prosecuting anyone to conviction. Although, I did enjoy when Darryl Gates would go out himself and bust some gane members. Keep in mind that every federal criminal charge is signed by a federal attorney in Gonzales’s name. The AG sets the department’s entire priority. He has a substabtive impact on the big picture, not just every little prosecution. That’s not just title we’re talking about. Also, note how I’m not avoiding you. Next question?

  147. michael says:

I also don’t think Bush is the top soldier (although he is commander in chief), or that the Secretary of Education is the best teacher, or the Secretary of Agriculture the number one farmer. Try to stick to the thread topic, unless Dana Perino was touting Margaret Spellings again?

  148. Briseadh na Faire says:

Gonzales is too important of a crime fighter

    Comment by michael — April 20, 2007 @ 10:22 pm

How about before he became Attorney General? Any prosecutions then?

What makes him a crime fighter, other than his title?

What makes him important? Is that fact or opinion? If it is fact, support it with citations.

Gonzales has done more damage to the Department of Justice than any other AG during my lifetime, and I lived through Watergate. Gonzales has turned the DoJ into a political Gestapo, not a crime-fighting organization, but a professional hit squad to target political opponents.

Will you be equally supportive of a Democratic AG who targets Republicans? If not, then aren’t you really just supporting a Republican Police State?

  149. Jake Clone says:

Hey Jake, turn out the lights when you’re done here, okay? And don’t touch anything in the fridge.
