Pentagon issues gag order.»

CongressDaily reports, “Pentagon lawyers abruptly blocked mid-level active-duty military officers from speaking Thursday during a closed-door House Armed Services Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee briefing about their personal experiences working with Iraqi security forces.” One correspondent tells Laura Rozen: “My guess: the training is not going well, there are some big gaps, and a bunch of horror stories that the Pentagon doesn’t want aired. … That said, this will backfire.”

Another example of our open government.

  2. Spudge_Boy Says:

Yeah, because gag-orders make you look so much better.

Could this be why the Pentagon doesn’t like the whole “When they stand up, we will stand down strategy” anymore?

  3. Wayne Says:

The pentagon ordered soldiers not to talk to congress?
Find out who ordered that and issue a contempt citation, Congress
    jail the asshole

  4. Gerald Gibson Jr Says:

Gagged from talking to who? Congress? Is the Pentagon saying that it is no longer respecting civilian control over the American military?

  5. socall Says:

So the police state officially begins today.

  6. paland Says:

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

  7. TripMaster Monkey Says:

People used to say, “how could the German people just stand by and let the Nazis commit their horrible crimes?”.

    This is how.

  8. Briseadh na Faire Says:

What the heck, it’s just the House Armed Services Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. The Pentagon didn’t have this problem when Republicans were in charge of oversight.

I mean, why should Congress care what the military is doing. Congress should just provide whatever funds Bush wants and trust Bush to do the right thing. I mean, just look at Bush’s track record. On second thought, don’t look at Bush’s track record. Don’t look at anything….

Questions: Who issued the gag order? How high up the chain of command does this go?

  9. fuzzwald Says:

There is so much that is creepy with this administration that something like this hardly gets my attention.

What are we going to do, people?

  10. Briseadh na Faire Says:

    4. no. that began on 1/20/2000. We just didn’t know it at the time.

And when they find out, issue a contempt of Congress citation and jail them for the remander of the Congressional term.

“Questions: Who issued the gag order? How high up the chain of command does this go?”

    BINGO.

  14. gregory of Judea, about tea time Says:

#11 ahhhh, but there’s the rub. You have to have the DoJ do the arresting. Our caped-crusader would do that lickety-split, except once he drove over the Potomac and got the Pentagon, he wouldn’t recall why he went there.

  15. Zep Tepi Says:

Ever notice when they talk about training Iraqi’s (terrorists to trolls) forces that the trolls don’t post anything. Why? Cuz Bush is funding the enemy! (Silly Trolls!, Even Jake won’t post on this, Trix are four Kids!!)

  16. George Dubya Bush Says:

Iraq is a complete and total failure.

We should cut our losses and get out.

It would be the kind of decision a good CEO would make.

  17. michael Says:

You have a specific question, Zep Tepi?

  18. Tom3 Says:

Welcome to the New World Order.

    When does Martial Law start?

    Probably next Tuesday.

    Wrong…..

The Congressional Seargent of Arms is the aresting officer with citations of Contempt of Congress

Proof you are Jake, answering Zep’s post

You are dumb as a post Moron.

  21. common sense Says:

    GDB,

Correct most CEO’s would bail out of Iraq, unfortunately those truly making the decisions run/profit from the oil companies, and MIC. Thus their lonly oss is human lives, they will gain very lucrative contracts otherwise. They’ll sell it to the bible thumpers and idiots telling them a few terroirsts want to destroy our freedoms, and they blindly follow.

Question Authority, especially one wrapped in a flag, quoting the bible, and carrying a gun.

  22. Zep Tepi Says:

I would have to agree George. Money is, today, nothing but paper. Conscious however is eternal. We all make mistakes for we are raised in a world that we don’t understand and become caught up in what we do understand. Materialism and greed and the empowerment that would seem to bring, in this realm, at least.

  23. Zep Tepi Says:

You have a specific question, Zep Tepi?

    Comment by michael

The question is do you ever have a specific answer.

  24. SouthWest Bob Says:

Having the Iraq army / security forces trained and taking over the responsibilities from USA soldiers have been the key to the USA leaving Iraq. Cheney/rove/bush need to string Americans along for another 20 months so they can get out of Dodge before their complete failure and lies are obvious and impeachment is no longer viable.

i used to think, “when will they learn?”…
now i’m sure that they just really don’t give a damn…

Funny thing as how that prediction came true……

  28. michael Says:

Yes, Zep Tepi. See how easy that was?

  29. James Says:

Can someone please post the relevant paragraphs of the news story so it can be properly cited on Wikipedia?

  30. Briseadh na Faire Says:

    Thank you, James.

  31. Uncle Ho Says:

Seems the higher brass doesn’t dig what they may have to say.

  32. TomPaine Says:

If the officers really wanted to talk they could have gone and talked to either of their federal representatives under the same provision that provides protection for those, like myself, who have signed the appeal for redress. And if there are serious problems, especially in a situation where the crux of the executives argument for continuing the war is failing. This would certainly be protected under the Military Whistleblowers Protection Act.

I know what they’re going to say. They’re going to say only 30-40% of Iraqi units are available at a time due to leave and attrition.

*IA units turning into sectarian death squads, which would put us in violation of the laws of land warfare by arming those who are committing war crimes.

*For example, Tal’ Afar a few weeks ago where the largest casualty producing car bomb went off killing 200 people, the Shi’a IA then went on a shooting rampage killing 50 Sunni military aged males. Or how about the fighting between the Army which is composed mainly of Sunnis and the Police force which is composed of Shi’a. Nearly every night inside the city of Tal’ Afar, there were apparently gunfights between the two factions.

*Or, how about the IA’s that betray us by letting truck bombs with chlorine gas into the same compounds where we have Military Transition Teams and their supposed comrades living together.

These are just a few examples of the larger problems. Remember they have to stand up so we can stand down.

  33. Buck Fush Says:

It’ goes right back to Bush and Cheney (Cheney most likely with a little Rove sprinkled in) they always command to the troups only say what they want them to say, not the truth, this is called spin.
Stop the lies, impeach the SOBs now.

    Hating the Repuke Mafia daily

  34. Bob's Job Says:

I think it was Upton Sinclair that said that, not CS Lewis.

  35. Shawn Says:

Congress has the duty “To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;”

Despite the repetition of the phrase “Commander in Chief” the president really has very little power over the military, Congress has most of it.
The lawyers who are forbidding these soldiers testimony need to dust off their copies of the Constitution
