If the officers really wanted to talk they could have gone and talked to either of their federal representatives under the same provision that provides protection for those, like myself, who have signed the appeal for redress. And if there are serious problems, especially in a situation where the crux of the executives argument for continuing the war is failing. This would certainly be protected under the Military Whistleblowers Protection Act.

I know what they’re going to say. They’re going to say only 30-40% of Iraqi units are available at a time due to leave and attrition.

*IA units turning into sectarian death squads, which would put us in violation of the laws of land warfare by arming those who are committing war crimes.

*For example, Tal’ Afar a few weeks ago where the largest casualty producing car bomb went off killing 200 people, the Shi’a IA then went on a shooting rampage killing 50 Sunni military aged males. Or how about the fighting between the Army which is composed mainly of Sunnis and the Police force which is composed of Shi’a. Nearly every night inside the city of Tal’ Afar, there were apparently gunfights between the two factions.

*Or, how about the IA’s that betray us by letting truck bombs with chlorine gas into the same compounds where we have Military Transition Teams and their supposed comrades living together.

These are just a few examples of the larger problems. Remember they have to stand up so we can stand down.

Having the Iraq army / security forces trained and taking over the responsibilities from USA soldiers have been the key to the USA leaving Iraq. Cheney/rove/bush need to string Americans along for another 20 months so they can get out of Dodge before their complete failure and lies are obvious and impeachment is no longer viable.
