Students want the media to leave Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech’s student government has “asked that all journalists leave campus by 5 a.m. tomorrow,” as students return to class. “Students in general will also be declining all requests and contact from the media,” the statement says. “Please grant us your understanding as this decision was made by the students, with the intent to regain a sense of normalcy as we prepare to move forward as an academic institution and as a community in the healing process.”

    Seems reasonable to me.

What the hell are they still doing there?
Pack up and head out you frickin’ ghouls.

It aint very nice to swim with sharks. It aint easy to study with the media sharks around, looking for stories to sell.

  3. katy says:

this is good to put out a difinitive message…
from pics on cbs morning shows, it looks like most of the circus vans have left… i thought the fact they were “broadcasting live – on location” was very rude and disrespectful… rather sad…

  4. ES says:

Good for the students. I think the message is more powerful and effective coming from them rather than the administrators.

  5. ES says:

I think the message is more meaningful coming directly from the students. Good for them for speaking, politely but firmly.

  6. Prog Mom says:

The message is especially powerful coming from the students rather than the administration. Kudos to them for speaking out firmly and politely.

  7. AboveTheClouds says:

Now we can get back to the real business of finding out how many pills they pumped out of Anna Nichole Smith’s corpse. The cameras should really be focused on how such a dullard could ascend to the post of US Attorney General, not how such a crazy man could get enough guns and ammo to kill 32 people.

  8. rfinca says:

Hopefully the bloodsuckers get the message.

  9. Anonymous By Choice says:

I never understood why the kids who DID do interviews, went on TV in the first place. Escpecially the roomates.

Man. This one reported was asking some DUMB questions, clearly trying to evoke some motion/drama. The kid just kinda brushed it out. But honestly… why interview in the first place?

“I never understood why the kids who DID do interviews, went on TV in the first place. Escpecially the roomates. ”

It’s that proverbial “15 minutes of fame”. I’m sure that they will probably look back on that and say “what was I thinking”.

Anyway, I think that most networks will move on. But, I doubt that Faux Noise will. I expect at least another two weeks of wall to wall coverage from them.

  11. Jim says:

I watched Chris Matthews interview one of the shooter’s suitemates. Honestly, Matthews must be one of the dumbest human beings on Earth. His questions were indiscriminately stupid, insensitive, and needlessly aggressive. Is there someone out there who thinks he’s good at what he does?

  12. katy says:

actually, i was impressed with the students i saw interviewed… very intelligent and respectful and aware of having decency…

there may have been some gaffs, but i remember being somewhat surprised at the STUDENTS’ lack of histrionics… the press was salivating…

but then i quit watching after that next morning…

  13. sully18 says:

The students have shown that they are as wise beyond their years as the press is irrelevant and unwise beyond their`s.

If the media leaves then Fox News will have to give up searching for a student or faculty member willing to blame Clinton. Fox will not leave.

Letterman’s bit was very funny. And it cannot be denied because there is the chimp in chief on video, looking the jackass that he is: being unable to tell his right hand from his left, and my favorite — spitting on the WH lawn.

Reports of the program last night were that Little bombed, and some walked out before it was over.

  18. had enough says:

But, but, but…our media desperately needs to keep the hype going in order to distract from the other stories… the stories that should put the Bush administration and many of those in Congress, for covering up for Bush, in the slammer.

    “The Media” are filthy whores.

Years ago uberliberal dogooder Bob Geldof, at thet time a one-hit pop (read: quasi-punk) wonder wrote a song called, “I don’t like Mondays”. It’s pertinent.

Part of it goes loke this:

“…And school’s out early and soon we’ll be learning
And the lesson today is how to die
    And then the bullhorn crackles
    And the captain tackles
With the problems and the hows and whys
And he can see no reasons
    ‘Cos there are no reasons

What reason do you need to die, die?
    Oh Oh Oh

    Tell me why
    I don’t like Mondays…”

There is no reasn. there was no story, save the event itself. The rest was rank sensationalism.

    “The Media” are filthy whores.

i’ve not heard much about it, but i saw a clip this morning, on ABC?, of a rich little joke from that WHC dinner…must have been a “best of”…
i thought it was a very respectable DIG at the shrub…
in character, as dubya, something about dreaming of a wealthy, healthy, happy country… turns out it was switzerland…
    kinda funny…

  21. unbelievable says:

It’ll be interesting to see if they respect the request, or if there will be some (there usually are) who will force themselves where they are not wanted, and insist that it is their right to do so.

  22. JPark says:

Better hope no pretty blondes died. They will be there forever. Especially Fox.

  23. Buck Fush says:

Well it looks as if the students a have the ability for critial and logical thought, and can see that the media has done with the travisty.

You go guys, the coverage is damaging to our society.

Don’t worry, a new shiny will come along to distract them. Unfortunately. Keep track of Gonzo and Chimpy though.

Saw a bumper sticker I really liked this weekend:

“Left turn at next election” I’m gonna buy it.

  25. chris says:

Now they want to censor the same press that showed the world the events that occurred then? You cant have your cake and eat it too. HOnestly Im surprised at the backward thinking coming from a college…but then again, neocon schools spew some weird stuff.
Face it…the world wants info and knowledge…even if its negative about VT.
