When it comes to matters of the justice system–the side that matters is the rule of law. Republicans, in their zest for one-party rule (we used to call that dictatorship when I was a kid) have seemingly forgotten that the man sitting in the White House serves all the people, not just Republicans or neo-cons or fundamentalist Christians or corporate interests or the rich. Until Republicans learn that lesson, there will continue to be Watergates and Iran-Contra scandals and prosecutions for outing CIA agents for political purposes. And before you drag out the Clinton-era scandals, it took MILLIONS in money from Republicans (for instance, Richard Mellon Scaife) to bankroll a “scandal” that at its heart involved oral sex. Whitewater costs taxpayers millions and produced nothing. Nothing. Not one thing.

It would do the whole country good to see Karl Rove–and the kind of politics he represents–booted out of the White House. And I would say the same thing if someone from the other party was trying to turn the Justice System into a corrupt arm of a corrupt political machine.

I believe you are the first person to be making this claim, so why don’t you give us some links to this “story” or at least tell us the names of some of the USAs Clinton supposedly fired more than two years into his term, Frank? (Not that I think the standard neoCON excuse “but Clinton…..” holds any water in any case.)

I believe you are mistaken. Clinton replaced HIS OWN appointees, more than eight DEMOCRATIC United States Attorneys, and more than two years into his term as well (as if that makes any difference since the Dems are complaining about ANY political reason for such replacements now). For now, I’m not referring to replacing all of Bush Sr. U.S. Attorney appointments. Look it up if you don’t believe me.

clinton replaced all of bush sr’s u.s. attorney appointments — AT THE BEGINNING OF HIS FIRST TERM. those replaced were likely to have all been republicans. and bush jr replaced all of clinton’s (and bush sr replaced most of reagan’s, and reagan replaced all of carter’s). all at the beginning of their terms. not at any other time.

the unprecedented action that was taken was bush jr firing 8 of his own appointees nearly two years into his second term. this hadn’t happened before. so quit trying to use the “clinton did it too” argument, like some whiny eight year-old. the fact is, in this case, NO, clinton did not do it too.

First off they are going to drag this garbage out for a year and a half spending countless billions of our dollars that could be better spent.

Oh, you mean like the countless billions in taxpayers dollars that have been ripped off by Halliburton through overbilling, fraud, waste, and shoddy workmanship? Actually, “billions” would be a bit of an exaggeration. I don’t think that long overdue oversight and prosecution of criminals in the White House is going to cost more than the $60 million that the Whitewater investigation rang up. And, I expect it to be much more productive, too.
