Iraqi students show support for Virginia Tech.

Students at Baghdad Technology University “hung up a banner to express their solidarity” with the Virginia Tech students:

We, the students of Technology University, denounce the attack at Virginia Tech. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims who faced a situation as bad as Iraq’s universities do. The sanctity of campuses must be protected around the world.

More than 200 university professors have been killed in Iraq in the past few years.

Thanks, now go fight your own battles.

  2. el kanuckistani says:

Seems like their own main battle is killing US invaders Badmoodman. Why do you hate USers?

There is still decency in this world.

  4. dave says:

It’s supposed to be a feel good “hey look the Iraquis are nice people!” story, but rightie wingnuts will find several ways to twist this into pissy talking points.

Sorry Badmoodman, but they wouldn’t be having a battle if we hadn’t started this thing.

  6. dogeatdogi says:

With the disaster exploding around them it would be hard to find a more graceful act of support. If only we could be so gracious. The gesture is overwhelming.

  7. Daryll says:

Libs, we’re fighting for young Iraqi citizens like the Baghdad Tech students. This is a valid reason why we are trying to win the war against terrorism/sectarian violence.

  8. mparker says:

The Iraqi’s are fighting an occupying force which illegally invaded their country under false pretenses and has killed approximately 1 million of their citizens and has displaced several million more.

    Yes that’s US.

This is why there is no WINNING.

The hearts and minds of the Iraqis are lost, and so goes the occupation.

  9. wags says:

Well Daryll, we seem to be doing a bang up job so far.

  10. Xbot says:

Funny, #7 Daryll. The worst part here is this happens there every day, yet people there have such compassion for us, the cowardly safe, while they’re out there facing death squads and bombs.

Your failed war created the situation they’re in – there’s no reason to be thanking you.

By the way, Daryll: How does one win a war against an ideology with weapons, hmm? Last I knew, guns don’t stop ideas, bad or otherwise.

  11. Peter says:

I’m so sick of the idea of a “war” against “violence”.

  12. Karim says:

That was most commendable and thoughtful.

Haha! Good one, Daryll! I’ll relay that one to the President.

But building a Security Wall will stop it.

Shorter Daryll: We’re killing these people for their own good.

  16. Tom3 says:

Iraqis face a new Virginia Tech EVERY SINGLE DAY.

We are destroying Iraq in order to save it. We need to get out. NOW.

  17. hellinabucket says:

Great post Peter #11. And I believe this is heartfelt from the Iraqis. It shows humanity does survive in terrible conditions.

To Daryll. War has never been declared. We aren’t fighting a war. It’s been used to death but it’s not accurate. Vietnam wasn’t a war. The current conflicts are not wars. The “war” on terror has less meaning than the “war” on poverty or drugs. This has been part of the larger problem. We’ve allowed those in power to use the terms without it’s true meaning and implications.

The students in Iraq remind the world that there is life struggling to shine.

  18. Xbot says:

    #14 Daryll

Let’s cage off the whites and the blacks here, too. There’s obviously too much tension.

And since the christians tend to be more violent than the atheists, let’s wall them off too. And there’s no need to stop there, the middle class is obviously far too dangerous for the rich and privileged, they need to be walled off too, those little fast food-eating rats.

  19. Badmoodman says:

Z: Sorry Badmoodman, but they wouldn’t be having a battle if we hadn’t started this thing. – - Right, and you can’t put that toothpaste back in the tube, so let’s move on and let the Iraqi Army, such as it is, fight for their own God-damned freedom, however they define that. I am SO over the moon for the US being the personal White Knight to Iraq.

Oh, yeah. That idea worked SO well in Berlin.

I agree, but lets not forget that US should pay for all the damage against that ruined country…since Gulf War I

  22. Zimzone says:

    Daryll,
Did Ted Haggard lead you all in prayer at the retreat?

Has James Dobson found any time for Ted yet?

What’s worse: A possessed lesbian or a lying evangelist?

  23. Tom3 says:

The Iraqi Premier has ordered a halt to the wall.

But the US continues to build it anyway.

Chimpy and the Repukes say we are building democracy in Iraq, but they are obviously lying. We do not recognize their government, so there is no democracy in Iraq.

  24. Raven says:

Building democracy in Iraq, one batch of concrete at a time.

  25. hellinabucket says:

#23. That’s a major slap in the face. Didn’t the last great Republican President call for walls to be torn down?

  26. Shane says:

    Comment by Daryll — April 24, 2007 @ 10:17 am

How about if we put a wall around your house. And we’ll let you out when you promise not to speak. Sound good?

  27. Shane says:

Shorter Daryll: We’re killing these people for their own good.

    Comment by Zooey — April 24, 2007 @ 10:19 am

That would be hysterical if the idiot didn’t really believe it.

  28. Juan C says:

We do not recognize their government, so there is no democracy in Iraq.
    Comment by Tom3 — April 24, 2007 @ 10:39 am

Oh, yes, there is. They voted. That was democracy…right? … right? /sarc

i’m mostly sure that is what too many CONs really do think…

that could also be a comeback line as reply to most trooll postings…

out to the garden for me…
    g’day, all…

    Comment by Badmoodman —

But, but, you can’t leave yet. You haven’t found those weapons of mass destruction yet. If you leave the Iraqi’s will turn them on the US. You remember. Rumsfult said they could launch in 45 minutes. Where’s your patriotism mr bad. You really do hate the US

  31. Parrotlover77 says:

Wow, I’m actually astonished how the wingnuts are able to twist this around. Some intelligent, sensible, and sensitive Iraqis send us a humane gesture such as this, after what we’ve done to their country, and they are verbally attacked by the bigots. Amazing. This just PROVES that the wingnuts don’t want, as they imply, to “win the war” by bringing about peace and eliminating the insurgencies. They want to “win the war” by killing all the brown people over there and replacing it with Israelis and white Christians.

  32. William says:

In the midst of their own terror students offer a humane gesture.
