Rove investigator acts a lot like Rove.

Rove investigator acts a lot like Rove.»

Scott J. Bloch, the head of the Office of Special Counsel, “who says he is investigating Karl Rove for allegations he influenced government activity for partisan purposes is himself facing allegations of similar behavior.” In April 2005, government watchdogs and others complained that “the White House appointee had allowed his office to ’sit on’ a complaint that then-White House National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice used government funds to travel in support of President Bush’s re-election bid.”

UPDATE:
CREW adds: “The fact that OSC has been charged with handling these matters suggests the possibility that the White House is orchestrating a cover-up of its illegal and improper activities.”

UPDATE II: More on Bloch from David Corn.

    Well, surprise, surprise.

Bloch is also a a homophone and former DoJ employee. So let’s see, a former DoJ employee investigating a DOJ scandal .. no problem there!

  2. Spudge_Boy Says:

The White House cover-up? What, say it isn’t so.

  3. Litz Says:

He’s also a homophobe and former DoJ employee (hit my URL to see what I’m talking about). So let’s see a former DoJ employee investigating a DoJ scandal … nope, no problem there!

  4. Crump's Brother Says:

Do you think that when the time comes I might be allowed to investigate my own “possible lawlessness”? I’d appreciate it.

  5. Litz Says:

Oh, oops, sorry, thought my first post didn’t make it. Sorry for the repeat. Let me at least correct the typo: HOMOPHOBE, not, homophone. I think that’s … something else.

    {giggles}

  6. Zooey Says:

Do these people not understand the concept of conflict of interest?

Do we really have to police their every move? Oh yeah, nevermind….

  7. the Lone Voice of Reason Says:

No coverup no way, gosh just because there is a big pile of dirt you guys think they’re hiding something.

  8. whiteyfresh Says:

oh, Zooey; kind of gets you burned out after awhile, doesn’t it??

    No and Yes.

This has been another edition of Simple Answers to Simple Questions.

  10. po Says:

A coverup?!? Say it isn’t so. Give me a break. Covering up is what W and his group all about or haven’t you been paying attention for the past 7 years or so (yes, they began doing it a long, long time ago — in that pre-9/11 world where incuriousity and sloth reigned supreme). Charades for the common folks. A circus of sorts. Just like Rome. Perhaps W is our Nero. Enjoy. 2 more years of this is going to get tiring real fast.

  11. bob (not the hacker) Says:

    re 6

“Do these people not understand the concept of conflict of interest?”

This assumes that they have an interest in justice. So the answer to your second question is, yes we have to police everything they do. And we need to tell every troll, conservative friend or relative, newspaper, talk show and congressperson and senator we have that until, at the least, there is an investigation that doesn’t turn up wrond doing they need to be quiet and stay out of the way. They’ve had their way for 6 years and look what they’ve accomplished.

  12. IraqVet Says:

So we are going to have the fox telll us why the hens are missing???

In this case, we are going to have a partisan hack to investigate a partisan operative, guilty of partisan activities in a partisan administration…

And we are supposed to expect a non-partisan outcome???

Just when you think it cannot get any worse! Who’s going to preside over the hearing??? Dana Hohrabacher???

  13. Wayne Says:

“The fact that OSC has been charged with handling these matters suggests the possibility that the White House is orchestrating a cover-up of its illegal and improper activities.”

You mean sending the fox to guard the henhouse is not a good idea?
    Who’d a thunk it? =P

  14. Fools on the Hill Says:

Another photo-op of Bush investigating himself and finding no harm or foul play. This guy can only play one note on his twelve string Presidential guitar.

  15. Zooey Says:

oh, Zooey; kind of gets you burned out after awhile, doesn’t it??
    Comment by whiteyfresh

I long for the days when a person in a position like Bloch, would say upfront: I’m sorry, I can’t do this investigation because I have a conflict.

    It was so frickin’ honest….

  16. the Lone Voice of Reason Says:

It’s not a conflict of their interest, it’s ours.

  17. tom baker Says:

    “Whitewashergate” (copyright 2007, me)

  18. Candyce Says:

This has Rove’s fat, grubby little fingerprints all over it. OSC has no teeth, but BushCo can walk away saying, “we took care of it. no wrongdoing. case closed.” Then, when Congress continues to pursue it, they make the case that Congress is piling on for political points. These are going be rough months ahead, but we must maintain our resolve. Nothing short of a special prosecutor!

  19. Saywho Says:

Maybe it is possible to put together a list based on the current officials of our government who do their jobs, do not lie, do not steal, truly want to make a difference, have personal integrity and respect all people?

LIST OF OFFICIALS THAT YOU WOULD TRUST TAKING YOUR KIDS TO SCHOOL IN THE MORNING:

    1)…………………………………………………….

  20. KRank Says:

Do these people not understand the concept of conflict of interest?

    Comment by Zooey — April 24, 2007 @ 4:57 pm

Zooey, I think they understand it all too well. Especially how useful it can be.

  21. John Emerson Says:

That diversion didn’t last long. Even Josh M Marshal and Kevin Drum played it straight for a few hours. I think that their tricks are failing them.

  22. veritas Says:

If it smells like a rat, walks like a rat, and squeels like a rat, then it’s a “rat” - I thought this sounded a bit incestuous at best/coverup attempt and obstruction of justice at worst. I’d like to see someone with credibility and integrity take on this white house before the people of this country totally become detached and disillusioned. It’s happening at warp speed these days - people on the street just shaking their heads in embarrassment and feeling totally impotent to bring these criminals to justice.

This sounds like a typical BushCo “obstruction of justice” to me! Are there absolutely NO republicans on the face of the earth with a heart and soul left?? Have they all been replaced by Roveroids??

  23. veritas Says:

The people are seeing right through this and need to scream to their Congressmen that it’s nothing more than “foul play”….a way to exonerate the criminals and rewrite history and it’s not going to fly with the american people. The rallies are growing in numbers, the calls for impeachment of both pres and veep are becoming thunderous and soon people will take to the streets in protest. This is the darkest phase of american history to date.

  24. Tom3 Says:

Well if he’s a homophobe, he’s gonna HATE Karla Rove.

Rove PROVED he is gay last week, when Sheryl Crow put her hand on his arm and he shrieked “Don’t Touch Me!”.

No red-blooded American hetero male would EVER say that to Sheryl Crow.

Therefore, Karla Rove is definitely gay, and a self-hating hypocrite.

  25. veritas Says:

WhitewasherGate/Bloch ’tis! Perhaps the DOJ needs to bring Bloch himself under investigation

Just out of curiosity: when will the criminal war profiteers be outed? Let’s talk about Cheney’s Haliburton “no-bid” contract for overt war profiteering shall we?

  26. kasinca Says:

I am shocked and appalled that the Bush Crime Family would be accused of wreckless behavior in covering up crimes and misdemeanors in their operations! Oh, dear me.

  27. Tom3 Says:

Chimpy thinks a homophone is the telephone Jeffy Lube Gannon uses.

  28. Jack Frost Says:

Rove is notorious about this kind of stuff.

I’m convinced Rove was the guy who disseminated the ‘fake’ GWB flight training records waiting for some reporter to bite, so he could then launch the angle that the documents weren’t genuine.

Then, not only does he discredit the reporter (in this case Dan Rather) but could muddy the water enough to make people think that the information contained on the documents is also untrue.

    Same thing here.

He’s going to put himself under scrutiny so that when the investigator acts like he’s doing an investigation, but then doesn’t actually connect any of the dots, Rove’ll then have an official report saying he hasn’t done anything wrong.

And no one in the press corps will bother to dig deeper to find out that dots haven’t been connected.

Kinda like they haven’t bothered to dig into what justice measure Libby was actually obstructing, or exposing who actually forged the Niger documents and why, or the real reasons for the firing of the 8 attorneys - like Carole Lam, for instance, who publicly stated she would follow the chain upward from Duke Cunningham (because we all know that’ll lead right into the Pentagon/White House and the boardrooms of the defense contractors in question - and we can’t have that now can we?).

So basically, even though Rove will still smell like shit, he’ll be able to hold up the report that states he’s a rose.

And no one will bother to look any further.

    Mission Accomplished.

  29. veritas Says:

This investigation is a bunch of bullshit - next!!

  30. Bob Says:

“Executive Priviledge” is just political speak for “Hiding Criminal Activity”. Now more than ever.

  31. veritas Says:

#27 I love it! Can’t wait until Jeff Lube Gannon sings! I’d like to hear what he was up to in his over 200 nocturnal visits to the white house, wouldn’t you?

  32. veritas Says:

Karla Rove and Jeff Lube Gannon - that’s it! I don’t know any woman who would even reach out to touch Karla Rove no less to date him. I guess that’s why Dubya recently made the “visitor logs” to the white house classified?? Guess Jeff Lube’s visits were becoming an embarrassment. Someone recently wrote in his book from the inside about gay men checking into the white house and night and NOT coming back out….wonder who they might be? Surely someone on the inside knows.

  33. Keith H. Says:

“The fact that OSC has been charged with handling these matters suggests the possibility that the White House is orchestrating a cover-up of its illegal and improper activities.”

    Dad-gummit Little-Joe . . . I believe they’ve got it !

  34. veritas Says:

If Congress falls for this charade, then they all need to be axed next time ’round. This is clearly chicanery at it’s finest to put a known abuser in charge of an abuse hearing….what the hell? I think Congress should trump Bloch and ignore him completely. Rove and Bloch, strange bedfellows as they probably are, believe that they will distract congress from investigating if this department is launching their own….au contraire, mon ami!

  35. Karim Says:

Like leaving the fox in charge of the chicken coop.

  36. veritas Says:

Saw on tabloid today where Bush is begging Laura to not follow through with divorce proceedings….too much Gannon lube?

  37. Tom3 Says:

I don’t think Jeffy Lube will ever write a tell-all book.

That’s because he doesn’t want to end up being ruled a suicide with two bullet holes in the back of his head.

  38. veritas Says:

Karla Rove has taught the american people some very new tricks and now he will find that they no longer work for him. He’s brought his corruption education to the american people and we know the drill so no one will bite on it any longer. The people need to tell Bloch that his faux investigation is bogus and congress needs to begin to investigate his wrongdoings immediately and discredit both him and this faux investigation….aka “coverup”.

  39. veritas Says:

There’s a fox in the hen house, as they say….

  40. Unholy Moses Says:

Over at the Carpetbagger Report, commenter Jackel nailed it:

I may be sceptical, but I bet the adminstration gets this investigation completed in record time and provides “full access” to its operations and Karl Rove (off the record of course). I think they are doing this as a way to show a clean bill of health when the investigation is finished. “See, Karl had nuthin’ to do with anything. The investigation (that we at the White House undertook) said so.” Then they will show those mean Dems the proof that all of thier digging is just politics.

This will be yet another instance of this administration using cronies when competence is what should matter most.

    .

  41. OxyCon Says:

    I smell cover-up too.
The Bushies know that Rove’s illegal political behavior is going to be investigated by Congress eventually, so they are “pre-empting” that investigation with a bogus one of their own which will allow them to claim the high road while at the same time they destroy all the evidence of Rove’s wrong doing.
At the end of the “cover-up” investigation, the only thing Rove will be found guily of will be a $5 dollar parking ticket.

  42. veritas Says:

Unfortunately, the american people have been burned one time too many and have a total “lack of confidence” in this administration as well as EVERY Bushie appointee. The criteria for selection has been outed and it’s clear that it has absolutely nothing to do with qualifications or experience. It’s strictly political and the ability to be one of their “fall guys” when/if caught. Their mantra is “do it until you get caught”. They have single-handedly destroyed everything this country has stood for, wiped their asses with our constitution, trampled our bill of rights and have destroyed our legal system….along with taking away by hacking our right to vote…perhaps our only “right” left in this flagging democracy.

It was their intent and plan to coup this democracy, that’s now becoming painfully clear….from 911 to the Iraq War (one dot connection) From the Iraq War to the Patriot Act (second connection)….to the dissolution of the rights of the people from illegal wiretapping and spying, to condoning torture (impeachable offense internationally)….when people remark about Bush’s obvious stupidity, while that may on some level be accurate (IQ wise), this was a cleverly and well-orchestrated “plot” whose genesis began in the presidency of Bush 41…..all one has to do is take the time to investigate on their own, read the data, and the evidence is absolutely incontrovertible now.

This democracy has been replaced by fascism with the corporations running our government, that’s acutely obvious. Our only hope is impeachment of this cavalier, corrupt, amoral administration! That’s it, folks….all the rest is already gone!

  43. veritas Says:

#40 Any investigation that comes from a Bushie will not be believed by the masses. In fact, this investigation will be quashed before it’s begun due to the overwhelming anger of the people toward the corruption of this administration. This investigation is “doomed to failure” from the outset because the “players” have already been identified. They shouldn’t even waste the effort on this one. Everyone knows Rove is guilty of a host of crimes - as is Bush and Cheney. Impeachment IS THE ONLY ANSWER.

  44. ForTruth Says:

It’s like letting Jeffrey Dahmer watch the morgue for ya’.

  45. Shane Says:

I long for the days when a person in a position like Bloch, would say upfront: I’m sorry, I can’t do this investigation because I have a conflict.

    Like during the Clinton administration.

  46. Strangely Enough Says:

    Conflict of interest? Hatch Act?

Somehow I imagine all the docs will be lost. Somehow…

  47. KYJurisDoctor Says:

I know Scott Jennings and I hope all is well.

  48. truthfairy Says:

smoke and mirors-the fox is in the hen house

  49. Andrew Says:

I could be wrong but i think that a person can’t be charged with the same crime twice. If Bloch is forced to halt investigations half way through because of his own legal trouble, and someone does not immediately replace him, will the evidence entered into court against Rove still be binding?

  50. RogerA Says:

This is just to allow Dana Perino/Tony Snow to be able to say

    “ongoing investigation”

instead of having to answer questions.

  51. nolo Says:

it seems to me — as i’ve “writ in water. . .”,
elsewhere here, today — that the main omen to
be on the lookout for, would be some form of
assertion of exclusive, as opposed to con-
    current, jurisdiction, by bloch
    et al. . .

short of that — i think our three pending
    congressional investigations are a reasonably
solid hedge against a “whitewash” or cover-up.

it has. grown. just. too. big. to. contain. that. way.

  52. DallasNE Says:

This is basically what I posted when the news first came out, i.e., this was a move to give Karl Rove a clean bill of health. That’s right, it didn’t pass the smell test so it would only be a matter of time before we learned what we now know. I am impressed that it took less than 1 day to expose this sham “investigation” for what it is.

  53. Zooey Says:

    Like during the Clinton administration.
    Comment by Shane

    Yeah, like that….

    *looks to the distance dreamily*

  54. veritas Says:

This is nothing more than “pure bush whitewash” and the people need to blow Bloch’s cover on this one. Nothing short of dismissal of Rove will appease the angry american public. Any attempt to whitewash or exonerate his ongoing criminal activities will be flatly rejected by the people and infuriate them into ousting EVERY last Republican out of office in 08. The GOP had better be plenty careful what it’s doing here. The american people are onto their tricks and will not tolerate much more from that group of thugs.

  55. veritas Says:

Perhaps that’s precisely it: Bloch is taking action because he realizes that there is a movement afoot against his own criminal wrongdoings. The plot thickens by the moment, doesn’t it? I suggest that the Congress look into Bloch’s activities before this bogus investigation by a fox in the hen house even gets off the ground. Evidently, Bloch has little credibility himself and has only investigated very menial cases. Clearly, he’s not the guy for an unbiased investigation. This has “obstruction of justice” written all over it.

  56. veritas Says:

This investigation is a complete SHAM; Karl Rove is both a fraud and a sham; and Scott Bloch needs to be investigation for his complicity in this ridiculous sham!

  57. jeff Says:

    Bloch must go. Period.

  58. big papa Says:

    SH*T!

    …we’re just goingto have to…

    …clean ‘em ALL OUT!

…I was counting on these scum to start the fire…

    …now, KNOWING that Bloch is a Bushite…

    …well, fu*k that…

    …time for some radical action…

  59. kasinca Says:

We need a Ken Starr type Special Prosecutor…I think Iglesias would make a good candidate.

  60. ak1977ak Says:

didn’t “hitler”y fire all the prosecutors
