The era of the “True Statesman” has long ago fled the scene in our Country. During my days of education, particularly in industrial engineering and management there was the old adage: Those who can do; those than cannot inspect; those that don’t know the difference teach. There is now another category: those that don’t know what “difference” means run for political office. As long as there is the opportunity for a politician to make a buck with his vote we will have corruption. In an earlier post I alluded to the Mohave County Trash Czar. Granny won’t have dinner ready for an hour or so and the pool is heating so I will illustrate my point. Graft and corruption is not a White House Monopoly! Bullhead City, Arizona is a small but growing area in the Southwest. The City Council, responding to a number of complaints about construction debris being blown about (We live in the Desert. The winds blow in the desert. Trash flows with the wind in the desert) enacted an ordinance requiring that all trash receptacles at construction sites be covered. You don’t see the problem? The contracted city trash collector (a public utility under the current definitions) provides covered construction debris trash containers. You still don’t see the problem? A less than reputable trashy collector from a neighboring city contracted with the developers to remove the debris at a significantly lower rate. The employees of this trashy business, being the subject of a current immigration reform movement and the entrepreneurs that they are, hit upon a marvelous idea. Rather than use those expensive covered containers that cost money to dump at the County landfill we will just mark off a spot, erect a three foot high chicken wire fence, tell the developer to dump all his trash in the enclosure, wait until he is finished dumping and the wind is finished blowing and take down our fence because all the trash is gone. You still don’t see the problem? The Bullhead City council refused a license to the outsider unless he covered his chicken wire to keep the wind from doing his job. The outsider complained to his sister, a lobby (ier, est, damned if I know which) and reported mistress of our esteemed State Senator Gould, who introduced a bill requiring all cities the size of Bullhead City in Arizona not to pass a law discriminating against his girl-friend’s brother. My story is obviously slanted but woefully true. His written argument and this is also true: “…it is not part of the emanate(sic) domain…” I am happy that I haven’t lived in Arizona long enough to have my brain fried like all the politicians except the Governor.

this guy must be a prince among the species. I mean feces. he at least has some concept of the crimes he has committed and has resigned from all but his pension job. let’s see if he will actually do the right thing. he has done his publicity stunt, now let’s see if he has any real guts. what am I saying? of course he won’t resign, he needs campaign contributions to use for his legal defense fund!

Sadly, this is what government has been reduced to in America. Scandal after scandal – resignations, firings, and the like. This is surely not just an issue of one party or the other, but of a government out of control.

How much would you want to “boot” (an obsolete term that may not be recognized but it means I will pay you a sum of money to ensure the transaction) to trade Renzi for Trent Frank, my Arizona Representative? Why is it we have a bunch of losers in this State from City, County (particularly Mohave County), State, don’t even start about Gould the trash czar, and Feds except our Governor?
