ThinkFast: April 24, 2007

rovedowngreen.jpg

An “obscure federal investigative unit known as the Office of Special Counsel” is launching a broad investigation into key elements of the White House political operations that “for more than six years have been headed by chief strategist Karl Rove.” The administration-led inquiry will be a unified investigation covering many facets of Rove’s operations. “We will take the evidence where it leads us,” said Scott J. Bloch, a Bush appointee who heads the Office of Special Counsel. “We will not leave any stone unturned.”

U.S. Central Command has retired the phrase “the long war” to describe the struggle against global extremists, after cultural advisers became concerned that the concept “alienated Middle East audiences by suggesting that the United States would keep a large number of forces in the region indefinitely.”

“World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz met yesterday with senior managers to promise unspecified changes in his leadership and to appeal for their help.” “He is not going to resign,” his lawyer said. “His mood is just fine. … He feels people are trying to interfere with his job to get at world poverty.”

Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D-NY) “will soon introduce a bill to legalize same-sex marriage — what he calls ‘a simple moral imperative,’” becoming “the first governor in the nation to introduce a gay marriage bill.”

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will conduct a hearing today into misleading information from the battlefield. The hearing will focus on the death of Army Ranger Specialist Patrick Tillman in Afghanistan and the capture and rescue of Army Private Jessica Lynch in Iraq, and question why inaccurate accounts of these two incidents were disseminated.

“Former White House Counsel Harriet Miers discussed firing ex-U.S. Attorney Debra Yang, who was leading an investigation into lucrative ties between Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-CA) and a lobbying firm before she left her government post voluntarily last fall,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) charged in a little noticed moment during last week’s hearing. Yang is not one of the eight purged attorneys at the center of the recent scandal.

“Despite President Bush’s vow that all Americans would have access to high-speed Internet service by 2007,” a new study suggests the U.S. is continuing to fall behind other developed countries in broadband subscriptions.”

The map of Greenland will have to be redrawn. A new island has appeared off its coast, suddenly separated from the mainland by the melting of Greenland’s enormous ice sheet, a development that is being seen as the most alarming sign of global warming.”

And finally: Voters in Florida may now be going to the polls…to not vote. State Sen. Mike Bennett has introduced a bill to “require ballots to have the additional option of ‘I choose not to vote.’” Bennett notes that some races are so nasty that voters don’t want to choose any candidate, and his bill would “ enable uninformed or disgusted voters to opt out.”

What did we miss? Let us know in the comments section.

These were the second set of lies the Bushlickers spit out to the American people. The first were the reasons for going into Iraq, but they followed up nicely with making up war stories, eh?
If it wasn’t for Pat Tillman’s family continuing to press for the truth, we would have never learned he was killed by his own unit.

    Lying bastards.

  3. K says:

Don’t get your hopes up: Bloch is a Bush administration hack. Any semblance between real investigating and whatever he does will be purely coincidental.

By the way: His lone claim to fame heretofore is dropping protection against discrimination for gay federal employees.

Even though Americans coughed up $2 Billion to the Telcoms in 1996, who promised to build out the infastructure for high speed access to ‘all American homes’ by 2003.
Now they’re asking for more money & making more promises to the Feds.
Neosluts are not only ‘dumbing down America’, they’re making a whole lot of money in the process.

Need I say more? This is just more stonewalling and cover-up. COngress should have put a Special Prosecutor on this earlier and headed this bogus investigation off.

Spitzer for President. Too bad Spitzer can take over the “obscure federal investigative unit known as the Office of Special Counsel.” Rove would be peeing out of his mangina right now if Spitzer was on the job.

Frankly, I’d be kinda glad to have any investigation that the Democrats do to wind up being dead ended, then when the Democrats gain control of the White House and the Justice department and treat the GOP like red headed stepchildren they can have their crow fed to them, initiated by the now famous Scalia Italian chin salute.

The Wiccan pentacle has been added to the list of emblems allowed in national cemeteries and on government-issued headstones of fallen soldiers, according to a settlement announced Monday….

[T]he pentacle, whose five points represent earth, air, fire, water and spirit, to be placed on grave markers within 14 days for those who have pending requests with the VA….

The pentacle has been added to 38 symbols the VA already permits on gravestones. They include commonly recognized symbols for Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism, as well as those for smaller religions such as Sufism Reoriented, Eckiankar and the Japanese faith Seicho-No-Ie…

Wicca is a nature-based religion based on respect for the earth, nature and the cycle of the seasons. Variations of the pentacle not accepted by Wiccans have been used in horror movies as a sign of the devil.

Excuse me, did Wolfowitz describe his goal as “getting at world poverty” or increasing it?

Al Gonzalez goes in front of Congress, and after intense private prepping and rehearsal, does so badly that even REPUBLICAN insiders describe his performance like watching baby seals getting clubbed and start demanding he resign…

Result? President Shit-For-Brains is more convinced than ever that Al is the man for the job.

As head of the World Bank, Paul Wolfowitz gets caught fixing a job for his sweetie that pays better than Condi’s job as Sec of State (check and make sure Condi doesn’t get a ridiculous raise now too…) and over 40 ex-World Bank officials call for Wolfie’s resignation…

Result? Wolfie is confident and relaxed, and has no intention of letting this distract him form his job, or resigning.

No consequences, no accountability, no conscience. Your GOP in action!

Where will we ever get the money to build enough prisons to hold all of these creeps? I’ve NEVER seen anything like this.

Well, this just means that everyone in the administration can say “no comment, there is an investigation underway…we must wait until it’s finished.” Does this also mean that no one from this criminal administration can testify under oath and in public to the Congress? Is this an end run around Committee subpoenas? It’s all a chess game and I hope Reid and Pelosi have their next move ready.

Don’t get your hopes up: Bloch is a Bush administration hack. Any semblance between real investigating and whatever he does will be purely coincidental.

That was my first reaction to it. But, I did a little digging and this guy actually has a history of understanding the Hatch Act and trying to see it applied fairly to both parties. Check out this audio clip: http://media.bonnint.net/wtop/5/591/59129.wma

If he’s turned loose on Lurita Doan, Scott Jennings, Karl Rove and everyone else involved in this huge web of RNC influence, it would be difficult for him not to bring charges against them. I’d like to hear what Henry Waxman thinks of this.

If you’re going to take the time to show up at the polls to mark, “I choose not to vote,” you might as well vote. Geez….

So, they’re going to leave ‘no stone unturned’ while they take another two years to investigate themselves . . . Whooopiee . . . . and BFD.
The chances of any serious wrong-doing being discovered is directly proportional to the chances of them just throwing up their hands and providing a full and honest confession.
    It’s just endless garbage.
Why even bother with the lies about their being a real investigation?
I know, so focks and cnn and the rest will have an easy, fairly cost friendlly story to ‘bring in the experts’ to offer their opionion on until they milk it dry. As if ANYONE is going to believe there is accountability on it’s way.

This type of story is getting sooooo tired.

  84. DallasNE says:

“We will take the evidence where it leads us,” said Scott J. Bloch, a Bush appointee who heads the Office of Special Counsel. “We will not leave any stone unturned.”

Yeah, right. The purpose of this exercise is to completely clear Rove. In fact, charges of intimidation have been leveled at those not disposed to rubber stamp the political operations.

  86. impeachcheneythenbush says:

After a little more than a year running the independent, 100-person OSC, Bloch is already facing a world of scrutiny. Two Senate committees are planning oversight hearings. US representatives have made public accusations. A watchdog group is collecting horror stories. And last month, the Bloch problem officially landed in Bush’s lap, when a complaint lodged by current and former OSC employees was officially referred to the Office of the White House Counsel for action. “President Bush will have to decide whether this gets investigated or buried away,” says Debra Katz, an attorney for the OSC employees.

Please note that the date of this article is May, 2005. Almost two years ago. Looks like it got “buried away.” And now Bush gets to collect his tribute from Bloch with this “show investigation.” And someone above suggested that this would stymie the ability of Congress to subpeona Rove, etc. due to an “on-going legal investigation.” I would say that is the correct dot to connect.

    thus hamstring the congressional

This is a strange one. He’s got his black marks on discrimination and he seems to have a chip on his shoulder about the Washington Post’s coverage, claiming it to be anti-administration. But, he’s all over the place promoting observance of the Hatch Act. It might be that he’s weak on enforcement, opting to give violators ‘a good talking to’ rather than actually prosecuting them. Or else, he might be the kind who leaves loopholes open for friends of the administration. That’s why I say that I’d like to hear what Waxman has to say about his investigation.

  95. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

Ha, if you can’t pressure AG Alberto Gonzales to retire, what makes you think that you’ll have enough proof to bring Mr. Rove before a panel, or begin the Impeachment process for our dear President, George Bush? You libs kill me. I’ll keep praying for you.

    Comment by Daryll
    ___________

What makes us think that…? Faith, Daryll, faith.

Seriously, you are so mixed up in your logic and assumptions. First, we don’t want Gonzales to retire, we want him to resign or be fired. Second, just because there is insufficient proof in one case, such as against Gonzales (which I am NOT claiming), it does not logically follow that there would be insufficient evidence in another case, such as against Rove or Bush. You should stick to relying on faith and belief since you are not very good at logic and reason.

As the tide was turning in the U.S. battle against Afghan insurgents –and as media outlets prepared to release reports on detainee abuse at Abu Ghraib in Iraq — the military saw Pat Tillman’s death as an “opportunity,” Kevin Tillman told the panel.”

#15 concerned. Thanks for that link. I would encourage everyone to read it…chilling indeed. Just one thing…we have been moving toward this moment for many years. The Alien and Sedition Acts were passed in 1798 and one of it’s four provisions is still in force today. The others have been replaced, in one form or another, over the years. The Bush administration has been trying to bring it all to fruition, and unless it’s recognized and stopped, they could still be successful in doing so.

“The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands … is the definition of tyranny,” wrote James Madison. We still have the choice to stop going down this road; we can stand our ground and fight for our nation, and take up the banner the founders asked us to carry.”
