It is really joyful to watch the video, and I am looking forward to read the book.

Sadly, this issue was covered by another book for more than 3 years ago, but it did not receive much attention and the writer could not find a publisher since they were all afraid of publishing a book that documents the historical failure of the US media since 9/11 and the road to war.

The book "No Questions Asked: New Coverage Since 9/11" by Lisa Finnegan (foreword by Normal Solomon)

http://www.noquestionsasked.org

I really wish that people had looked into the subject, the same way Lisa did.

Here are a few comments about the book:

"Many others have documented the press’ letdown in fulfilling its adversarial role after 9/11. Seeing the problem is easy. Explaining it is harder. So Finnegan’s rather studious approach, drawing on individual and group psychology, holds promise for not only understanding the failures but pointing toward reforms."

American Journalism Review of the book

"We should all be in debt to Lisa Finnegan who skillfully shows how and why our media is falling down on the job."

Danny Schechter News Dissector Editor, Mediachannel.org

"Lisa Finnegan has assembled, in chapter after sobering chapter, the sorry record of how big chunks of the U.S. media establishment abandoned skepticism and acted as virtual wartime propagandists for the White House and the Pentagon after 9/11. No Questions Asked makes the case that if Americans are in the dark about how we got into this mess, it was our newspapers and our television networks who turned out the lights."

Robert Dreyfuss, Author of the "Devil's Game: How the United States Helped Unleash Fundamentalist Islam"

Cheers,

Don't give them the benefit of the doubt. They knew it was all bogus. But they just went with the bigger bully. It was all just ordinary school yard policy: Bush was stronger and had big brothers. The liberals were pathetic losers without any might. So, whose side are you gonna be on?

Most of the beltway press didn't believe that Saddam had anything to do with 9/11. But they thought, Bush would overturn the regime and successfully install some sort of government. And they didn't wanna be (or have been) with the doubters come 2004 and Bush's inevitable reelection. I think it's as simple as that.

Laughable lies from the propagandist Moyers. What is sad is this is our tax dollars at work to spew this rubbish.

Comment by Patrick1 — April 25, 2007 @ 12:13 pm

I just finished watching the Moyers program, and for Patrick1 to make a statement like this is so laughable! Any sane person, or one of any sanity or intelligence at all, would see all the blatant lies that Moyers uncovered. Did Patrick1 miss all the direct quotes of lies that were exposed?

I think comments like his AGAIN paint a perfect picture of what kind of (lack of) intellect these sheeple possess.

Wake up, Patrick1.

Still waiting for that Pravda Broadcasting System documentatry that demolishes the anti-war myths of the pro-surrender Vietnam crowd, such as the oft-repeated claims that Laos and Cambodia would not fall like dominoes, that the North would hold free elections as it promised, and that millions would not die in the aftermath since Communists were just idealistic agrarian reformers. I guess some truths still too inconvenient…

Nicely put, Mr. Moyers:
"If the watchdog doesn't bark, how do you know there's a burglar in the basement. And the

press is supposed to be our watchdog.
And, to put it another way:
If you think that the fire department in your neighborhood is in collusion with the

arsonist, you want to know about it.
The fact of the matter is in the buildup to the war the watchdog didn't bark and the fire

department - in this case, the press - was in cahoots with the arsonist."

- Bill Moyers on the Tavis Smiley Show 7/23/07

---

btw - After seeing the WaPo review, I really looked forward to what the NYT review would include.

Guess what? - THERE WASN'T ONE!

After searching their entire paper, this is what I found: a 36 word mini-blurb in their "What’s on Tonight" tv show encapsulation.
That's ALL...
- And it's listed after a 110 word description of "AMERICAN IDOL" as well as blurbs about "ACCORDING TO JIM" and "AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL" (which has a bigger blurb than "BUYING THE WAR"!

That.
Is.
PATHETIC!!

Either:

A: p1 is a paid shill, possibly by your tax dollars.

or

B: (s)he has a major personality disorder, OCD, NPD, BPD.

Likely both.

Either is a waste of one's time, both feed on shocked reactions.

Ignore 'em or take 'em huntin' with Cheney.

Prof. Colby...

I would recommend caution when engaging with the LIMITED intelligence that has been shown by Patrick.

For starters, HE/SHE is clearly a COWARD. I happen to KNOW this, because I have issued an OPEN challenge to ANY REPUBLICAN HACK/TROLL to meet me at Ft. Sill for ONE WEEKEND of training to provide a glimpse of what our soldiers go through. And, even though, they have the luxury to return home...NOT ONE answered the call.

To understand the mentality, you first must understand that THEY (REPUBLICANS) are mired in the abyss of incompetence and irrelevance. They can ONLY use PAST RHETORIC and INACCURATE facts to support their claims of moral judgment and when that does not work, they use fear, intimidation, and distractions to attempt to validate their existence.

INTELLIGENCE is optional within this party, because “if” there was some intelligence, then there would be NO debate about the crimes and atrocities committed by this administration.

Simply put: The country was better off and more secure when a man was getting a blow-j*b on the Oval Office, then when an idiot with no plan starts a war to get him off…

The media walked in lockstep with the Bush administration after 9-11 and yet the right-wing still promotes the lie that the media is liberal. Hogwash.

So they are using taxpayer money so what. I don't want my taxpayers money to pay for this Illegal Unjust war in Iraq. Where is the money they LOST in Iraq at the beginning of this war. We need to bring our Troops Home NOW.

Everyone believed that Saddam had a WMD program including Saddam and Bill Clinton. This was hardly an invention of Bush as we know from statements made by Clinton in 1998, so that statement of Gregor is nonsense.

#57 "Everyone" -- at Fox -- the rest of us were thinking about how to stop Al Queda. Thinking about finding Bin Ladin and making him pay for his crimes. Thinking about how he was and still is hiding in Pakistan which really does have WMDs. What was the point of invading Iraq? Was it ignorance or malice? Either one, both are seriously bad for the US and the world in fighting terrorists. What have we gained? Nothing. Just tens of thousands of dead men, women and children and the greatest recruitment program for Al Quaeda Bin Ladin could ever have imagined. All because of a seriously flawed president and his maniacle "team". And Laura Bush says "no one hurts more than she and GW." Hurting from taking the world down a road into hell. Yeah, she should be hurting.

I'll be very interested to see this show, but it also reminds me, this is how and why I found the blogosphere in the first place--this disconnect from what I was reading in the European press during the run up to the war and what I found at CNN and other US networks. Still, a few small on-line American magazines did provide more reasonable commentary, criticism, analysis, and background history on Iraq, but they also included links to these things called "weblogs", and since then I've been hooked.
