Frustrations with Wolfowitz ‘boil over at meeting.’

Paul Wolfowitz was “confronted by one of his top deputies” at a World Bank meeting last week:

Graeme Wheeler, the bank’s managing director, said at the meeting that the fight over whether Mr. Wolfowitz should stay on at the bank amounted to the “the biggest crisis in its history.”

He said it arose from a range of issues, including fears that Mr. Wolfowitz and his aides were trying to impose Bush administration ideas on family planning and climate change at the bank and worries over a possible conflict of interest in the bank’s hiring of a Washington law firm, Williams & Connolly, to investigate leaks. A partner at the firm had earlier negotiated Mr. Wolfowitz’s employment contract with the bank.

Mr. Wheeler also said Mr. Wolfowitz’s staying on would cause “fantastic damage” to the bank’s reputation and effectiveness.

  2. JPark says:

Yeah, just resign already, you hack.

  3. SouthWest Bob says:

Arrogant and self serving are the two primary personality characteristics required of bush appointees. . . wolfowitz is proving he exceeds those requirements.

My questions: (1) Who signs the crooked bastard’s pay checks? (2) Why?

Obviously he doesn’t care how low Bush’s poll numbers get.
These guys (Bush Appontees) are so stupid, they will keep a Republican out of the whitehouse for the next 8 -12 years.
Let him hang on by his grimy toes as long as possible.

  7. bedonkadonk says:

I don’t get it! Everyone’s calling for this jackass to resign. Why can’t he be fired? It’s ridiculous!

  8. JPark says:

#7 Rich people don’t get fired.

    He was appointed by Bush.

Fears that… fears that? What’s to be afraid of? Ther should be no uncertainly, doubts, or fears at all here. BushCo is once again ramrodding its agenda down the throat of yet another organization it has no use or respect for. The Bushies show nothing but contempt for anyone who doesn’t kneel over for them and they will not stop unless YOU stop them.

I’m not quite sure what the ultimate goal is here, but sure as the endless shit that pours from Rush Limbaugh’s open, gaping mouth, they creeps are out to do as much damage to world as possible. They’ll just keep stealing and lying and killing until we stop them, period.

  12. Buck Fush says:

What ole’ Wolfie trying to push the sick Bush agenda on the World Bank, nah, couldn’t happen, no way, Bush and Cheney are too busy restoring honor and dignity in the whitehouse…….man I just hate these neocon scum sucking sickos, just hate them all to hell and back.

    Hating the Repuke Mafia daily

  13. old hack says:

    Fantastic destruction is Bush’s specialty

  14. the republic of stupidity says:

old hack, you just might be right… destruction for destruction’s sake alone. Remeber, we are dealing w/ a man who apparently got his jollies as a sick little boy by blowing up frogs w/ firecrackers.

  15. OutSourced says:

Typical Bush: if he can’t have all the marbles, he makes sure no one else can play the game.

  16. OutSourced says:

What goes unsaid are the under the table threats. Mr. Bush is undoubtedly having it made clear that he’ll withhold funding, cooperation, etc., if he can’t have his way with his man. Kinda like the shower in Attica.

The governors could fire Mr. Wolfowitz. They won’t until they reach agreement on what happens then. Mr. Bush, being Shrub, might just re-appoint him, since he can’t recess appoint him, or appoint John Bolton or another wingnut. Then it’s just a hissing contest.

We all know how Dubya likes to knee-go-she-ate. He may spin this one out for his domestic peanut gallery, to show that he’s a man and them furriners ain’t. So what if the Bank’s projects and staff go kerphlooey. Leader of the Free World. Right.

  17. steerpike says:

This is just small stuff for Wolfie. When your resume lists ‘lied to whole world’, ‘ major responsibility for starting a war’, ‘helped kill half a million Iraqis’, ‘contributed to massive upheaval in the Middle East’, ’strengthened terrorist organisations’ and ’spent billions to kill over 3 000 American soldiers, wound ten of thousands more, and lead to a military and political defeat’, a small matter of nepotism and corruption can be passed over pretty easily,

  18. Jay Randal says:

The World Bank has been destroyed by Wolfowitz, but that is why Bush Regime wanted him there to wreak the bank from within.

  19. theswan says:

He will arrogantly hold his ground.
I’m convinced that he is a plant at the bank to support iraq oil field privitization for the Cheney crowd.
Lets hope the pressure mounts by the day. He is only a cog in the cabal.

  20. katy says:

Mr. Wheeler also said Mr. Wolfowitz’s staying on would cause “fantastic damage” to the bank’s reputation and effectiveness.

    then fire him…
seriously, why don’t they fire his ass? …
so what if dubya appointed him – it’s the WORLD BANK…
    i don’t get it…

  21. Anton Del says:

Is it just me or are all Bushies like that old SNL skit “The Thing That Wouldn’t Leave.” These turds entrench themselves and even Ultra Powerful Drano can’t get them to budge. They are a lot like the neighborhood bully who, when you asked him to leave YOUR home, said “no, make me” and would be there until you kicked his ass. Makes sense doesn’t it? Can’t you see Bush as one of those kids? What a bunch of turds.

  22. decider liar says:

The board can’t fire him. Only the US pres can according to how the WB was set up, and that’s never been done before. Maybe this will get the Europeans/Asians to change the rule but I would guess The Wolf will be out of there along with Bush in 18 months, both doing as much damage to us all while they can.

  23. Bob says:

This is the same story for all Bush appointies. They are all corrupt, incompetent, and all are trying to use their position to force ideals on to other people.

I sure am sick of it. How much longer?

  24. ckerst says:

That’s what you get for having anything to do with the monkey boy administration. Everything they touch turns to crap.

  25. GaPeach103 says:

Wolfowitz is nothing more than a pimp. And it’ hard out here for a pimp.

What most of you don’t seem to understand is that a pimp is insensate to the harm that his ho and whoring ways may inflict on other individuals and society in general. He main — nay, his ONLY! — concern is that he gets paid!

It’s hard out here for a pimp.

  26. Vino says:

as long as there are still two dimes left to steal, Wolfowitz will remain at the world bank.
