Inhofe calls Reid remarks ‘un-American.’

“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) should be recalled by voters over his ‘un-American’ remarks about the Iraq war, Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK). Asked if the Nevada Democrat should resign from his leadership position because of his comments, Inhofe said: “I think it’s more serious than that. I think there should be a recall…for saying something as un-American as that.”

    This is amusing.

Wasn’t Bush the one that said it’d be a heck of a lot easier to be a dictator? That’s a lot less ‘American’. It’s been awhile since I heard that phrase – I think it was the MCARTHY ERA. Sheesh, I thought we were over this.

Tell Inhofe to put his votes where his mouth is. The Senate has procedures for censoring and even removing from office one of its own members, a form of impeachment. Inhofe should file for such removal if he thinks there is cause. It would be nice if a savvy reporter asked him if he would be willing and will do this.

  20. Roger_Roger says:

Inhofe is an idoit. In America we have the right to say anything we want, even remarks that belittle our troops like Reids remarks. Of course every single American should be upset about a Senator proclaiming our troops are loser. It certainly doesn’t deserve a recall. That is just nonsense. He will certainly be voted out of office in the next election cycle as anyone voting for a canidate that doesn’t support our troops or the American push to help people overcome S o c i a li s t regimes and dictators since every person in the world (outside of terrorists) would do just about anything including die for freedom and democracy. He has freedom of speech as he should. We AMERICANS of course would never vote yes to a canidate that is saying no to our troops and our way of life.

#10: If we aren’t responsible for what happens in Iraq, and withdraw, how does that make an average citizen feel about global warming?

Accepting responsibility for what happens in Iraq will involve withdrawing U.S. troops from the region. There are no good military solutions for the U.S. in Iraq. Our best course of action will be to assist the Iraqis economically and diplomatically. The longer we maintain a military presence there, the longer our troops will be sitting ducks in the middle of a civil war.

Accepting responsibility for global warming involves reducing fossil fuel emissions worldwide. The connection you’re attempting to draw seems pretty lame to me…

  24. Crump's Brother says:

    ROGER,

You think you can vote out the Senate Majority Leader. Especially on those terms. Did you forget that the Dems took power on the idea of ending the war. (Or as you would put it, ‘not supporting the troops’) That message seemed to resonate with the voters this last November.

  26. veritas says:

After seeing this moron at the recent hearings get hammered by Pelosi for his petty remarks, it’s clear that Inhof is clearly not suited for his position. He’s burned out and embarrassed for himself that he enabled these past 6 years of total corruption (under his watch). I think it’s safe to say that Inhof may be held personally accountable for “NOT” investigating things which should have been investigated during that time. I wouldn’t be shocked if subpoenas are issued for Inhof himself down the line for his complicity in this obvious 6 year Obstruction Of Justice.

  27. veritas says:

Inhof is the classic example of ‘PROJECTION’ – THE KETTLE CALLING THE POT BLACK. In aiding and abetting the most criminal administration in the history of this country, Inhof, himself, is the one who was “unpatriotic” and he continued his unpatriotic rant for 6 long years. He’d better be careful about whom he makes these remarks….in Inhof’s case, it’s “You spot it/You got it” and we know that’s true for his dereliction of duty.

I am trying to make sense out of your diatribe, but I cannot.

Here is what I have trouble with

“…Senator proclaiming our troops are loser…”
REID NEVER CLAIMED OUR TROOPS WERE LOSERS. He said the war is lost; and it is not because of our troops but because of Cheney and his gang of corrupt SOBs whose collective military experience equals 4 time defferment from service in Vietnam.

“…We AMERICANS of course would never vote yes to a canidate that is saying no to our troops and our way of life.”
WE JUST DID THAT ON 11/06/2006. We voted for candidates who were againsat the war, and for bringing our troops hope. 70% still believe that must be our policy. Are you suggesting 7 out of 10 people in this country are un-American.

Or is it that in your feeble mind being American is equal to being a war-mongering, corrupt, degenerate psycho.

  47. Roger_Roger says:

I am a vet. I served in Desert storm. I am also very competitive. When Reid said we have lost the war, to me and most in the military, it is equal to calling each and everyone of us a loser.

When you say a Basketball team lost a game, every player on that team is a loser just like when you say the US military lost the war. The military is a team and when your team is a loser, the people on the team are losers. IN our world, you are either a winner or loser. In this case, Reid decided that our troops lost the war, thus they are losers in his eyes.

To me, this is horrid timing. Our troops aren’t even close to ending their mission. Furthermore, I am sure they are having a hard time trying to figure out how they have lost since they still have tons of men left and most their equipment. They are probably trying to add up how anyone would call there war a lose (effectively calling them losers) since they have killed many many more terrorists while only losing a few thousand of their teammates.

Look, you can try and defend Reid all you want but when you say a team lost, you are calling them losers. Anyone that loses, is a loser. I suppose you just don’t like the tone of that. We can’t call them winners either as the war is far from over. I have many many friends over there and I talk to most of them weekly. Most say Iraq is extremely boring. Most of the country is very kind and generous. They report that there are some pockets of resistence left but they are amazed at how it looks and feels compaired to when they showed up. Furthermore, they report that most of the kills they have made turn out to be outsiders and extremist youths. My buddy I just talked to said that for the most part, 99 out of 100 Iraqis are really nice people that act just like an American would.

That one maniac and/or the random extremist from Iran somehow get all the news when they blow up a bunch of women and children. Sadly, these extremist with their petty attacks are being effective as the Media and the far left are ready to hand them the country and pull out my friends. Most say they are extremely worried about the friends they have made in Iraq. They know that if we leave now, they are defensless against Iranian terrorist and AQ which is sad since the country is only about 1 year away from stability.

BTW, I was 11B infantry and fought in Desert Storm 1. I have been in Iraq long ago. I can tell you that most of the folks over there are friendly and kind and simply want a chance but need help. Why are you so eager to bail on them? What purpose does that serve forcing these people into a future of extremism and dictatorship?

  48. lestatdelc says:

    LOL

What Inhofe seems to be advocating is Un-Constitutional!

There is no Constitutional method for voters to “re-call” a Senator. So someone calling for actions that are un-Consitutional has the audacity to call someone who speaks the truth about the military situation in Iraq “un-American”…?

    Oh the irony.

I also have taken in a Iraqi War Vet into my home to live cause she could not get it together on her own, my wife and I have helping her pull it back together, NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL SUPPORTING THE TROOPS! Something you conservatives most likely would never do.

That is unless the basket ball team is being shot at, or having things thrown at them while they try to play the game…..

YOUR SIMPLISTIC view is just that!!!!!

I would like to say thank you for your service from one Vet to another though.

However, your TWISTING of words to FIT YOUR meaning is disingenuous…..

As a VET, I do not take Reids words to mean what YOU defined it to mean. I applaud him for standing up for the troops, who have no voice in the situation.

So stop with YOUR interpretation of what people say and stick with the context and what they say…… Use that education and military training of thinking logically about a situation to evaluate the WORDS that people are saying rather than what YOU want them to mean.

  57. Crump's Brother says:

    Roger,

thank you for clearing up the Reid quote.

I don’t really know where to start.

The President has failed our troops in several ways. Not going with enough troops to start the mission to ensure peaceful transition, not equiping them to the standards that all Americans would demand, and then bailing out on them when they come home and need medical attention.

This is not a military failure. THis is a failure of leadership. Surely you must see the difference. Harry Reid sees the difference.

You used a sports analogy. Ever notice how often in sports where the blame lies when things go wrong. With the coach.

The American people who want this thing ended (70% mind you) do not think the troops are losers. We think the President has failed miserably. ANd the troops have paidd the price.

  58. Jeremy says:

Rogerx2, you’re trying to sway my opinion with 2nd hand information and experiences that are…what, over 15 years old? I’m sorry, that dog don’t hunt. Iraq is a lost cause. BUSH lost that war. Maybe if he had listened to the advisors who were telling him ‘You need more troops from the getgo, and you need to control the civil unrest you’ll get in Saddam’s fall’, we might not be talking about this. Hell, if he’d _finished the job in Afghanistan (WHY, Democrats, WHY don’t you push this. I mean really push it, get it out from every mouth by every leader…), we’d not be talking about it, and while Saddam may have still been in control of Iraq, we might have captured, tried, and executed bin Laden for his role in 9/11 and set up a modern democracy in Afghanistan, without pissing off a good part of the planet in the process. We’d not be talking about losing wars if that had happened…

Your side lost the war, Roger_Roger. The troops were unfortunate passengers in this bus going over the cliff (marked ‘Straight Talk Express’, if I may), but Cheney was driving, Condi was putting on her makeup and checking her shoes, and Bush had his head sticking out the window with his tongue flapping in the breeze. (Must…resist…cracking up at work…over…MENTAL IMAGE!!!) The short answer is that had there been different people in the government at the time, things would not look like they do today. Hey, Roger_Roger. How’s Afghanistan going?

#53 I guess I should go the political route and spin what losing means like you folks are doing. When you say we lost, then everyone involved is a loser. Don’t even try to give me this soccer mom crap where even though we lost, everyone on our team is a winner because we tried hard, etc. etc. That is a lie when the soccer moms tell there kids that and it would be a lie now. We have 3 options and they are win, lose, and “in the middle of the war”.

It amazes me how the the left and their media friends are trying to spin this. How anyone can say the war is over one way or another is baffling. The Iraqi’s are still working towards democracy, freedom, and peace. STILL WORKING FOR IT!!!! How can you say we lost when we still have hundreds of thousands of troops ready to fight?? We also have the mass majority of Iraq that wants peace and every person in the world that is sane will fight to the death for democracy and freedom.

Are you simply advocating we walk away from the Iraqi’s and doom them? Are you doing that because it may net pelosi and reid a little more political power? Guess the power issue is obvious as they already bought the votes to remove troops from Iraq since most logical congressmen would never vote to bring our troops home in the middle of an engagement. All Americans should be ashamed that the leaders of congress bought the votes instead of let the people decide.

He has lost the occupation. It is a civil war there now.
The soldiers have an almost impossible mission to separate the enemy from the civillian population.
The soldiers did not lose the war. The Bush administration pushing their insane agenda and not listening to any opinion other than what they wanted to hear, lost the war

Your insane diatribe shows me one thing. You are no veteran, you do not know the first thing about war. If you were in, you were probably assigned to the mess hall.

  64. Trekkie says:

Sorry, but you forgot the “deal” that exists between Reid and his fellow Senator from Nevada, John Ensign. Under the deal, neither one will support a challenger to the other’s seat.

That’s why Ensign won re-election last year – Reid didn’t support the Democrat we put up against Ensign. And in 2004, Ensign didn’t support the Republican who ran against Reid (and in 2004, Reid was much more vulnerable than he was in 1998, when Ensign lost to him by a mere 400 votes).

As long as this state of “detente” exists, neither one is truly vulnerable to electoral defeat.

  65. JaneESchneider says:

Once bitter opponents, Ensign and now-Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid emerged from a hard-fought 1998 campaign, which Ensign lost by 428 votes, to forge a close relationship.

Now Reid, in charge of growing the Democratic minority in the Senate, is signaling that Ensign is one Republican who won’t be in his cross-hairs…

‘The most powerful Democrat in the country is essentially saying that in my home state, I cannot find a Democrat to run against John Ensign. I mean, it’s laughable,’ said Jon Ralston, a nonpartisan Nevada political analyst who writes a column in the Las Vegas Sun and produces a daily political newsletter. ‘I guarantee no one has a chance to beat John Ensign without Harry Reid’s help. And he’s not going to help. … I think he thinks that relationship is just too important.’” – Reno Gazette-Journal August 13, 2005

Predictable Rovian reversal. Mr. Reid should be recalled for doing his job. Mr. Bush, Mr. Gonzales, Mr. Inhofe, and their ilk should keep theirs while not doing them. Mr. Rove’s talking points designedly debase the coinage of what constitutes good performance. That way, an inattentive public doesn’t know where to turn and stays in place.

Hmm, the wagons are circling, but they’re already on fire and full of arrows.

Harry Reid is my senator and I’m proud of him. Get bent, Inhofe.

Yeah, Oklahoma…I will pass on listening to you.

Oooops. He shoulda waited until after that poll came out– indicating it’s the majority opinion of Americans– before saying anything!

    RogerX2

Frankly, you are an idiot. That aside:

Reid was advocating a change of strategy seen as the current strategy is not working.

Take a look at what you are saying, you are advocating stay the course, ostensibly because you righties, seem to think a little bit of blood in your cheeks is worse then a lot of blood spilt on Bahgdad’s streets. You are advocating killing people and getting your soldiers killed, because you don’t want to feel a little bit embarassed.

Most soldiers have enough spine to recognise that ultimately losing small is better then losing big, and a stalemate in Iraq would be losing big. It is costing America billions to keep soldiers in Iraq, it is costing America lives to keep soldiers in Iraq, it is costing America prestige to keep soldiers in Iraq. All to save you a little bit of face, because face it the war is lost, it is not treasonable to say the truth and you morons on the right are the prime cause of this loss.

you didn’t have the maturity to listen to your opponents when they pointed out just what it would take to win the war in Iraq. Instead you accused us of being nasty libruls. You didn’t listen to us when we told you the consequences of Iraq, and we have only been wrong in that the consequences have actually been worse.

You didn’t listen to us when we told you the evidence was shit, you just started replacing French with Freedom in everything. This is the big “I told you so” and it is not due to liberal influences that America is losing in Iraq, it is due to you rightwhingers, refusing to listen to your critics and recognise that your critics may well have valid points.

Liberal America, when you were in the driving seat was telling you to stop, repeatedly warning that there was a cliff ahead, and you drove America right over that cliff and now you are blaming the liberals for the damage done to America by your own actions.

It is time you rightwhingers grew up and took enough responsibility to admit it is your fault that things are the way they are now, and started supporting action to mitigate the worst of the consequences.
