Murtha Slams McCain Over ‘Outrageous’ IED Joke»

In a fiery speech last night, Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) blasted Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for joking about improvised explosive devices (IED) during his appearance on the Daily Show on Tuesday.

McCain was asked by Jon Stewart about his notorious recent shopping trip at a Baghdad market, and responded, “I had something picked out for you, too — a little IED to put on your desk.”

During his floor speech last night, Murtha said that he received a call from a friend’s wife who was distressed about McCain’s crack. “In the last four months, we’ve lost more troops than any other period during this war,” Murtha said. “Imagine a presidential candidate making a joke about IEDs when our kids are getting blown up!” he shouted loudly. “It’s outrageous!”

calling for a draft is also outrageous, but I still love ya, Murtha…

  2. normalasf Says:

    I love John Murtha.

  3. Badmoodman Says:

Calm down, Jack. It was just a “joke” from McCain. No one takes him seriously anyway, and this is another reason why.

  4. hit_escape Says:

Outrageous indeed. Cue the rightwing pundits, complaining about “political correctness”, “liberals can’t take a joke”, “don’t criticize McCain, at least he went over there”, change the subject and make it about Stewart, blah, blah, blah….

  5. whiteyfresh Says:

    FIREY OLD COOT. :)
    God bless him….

  6. Justin Says:

Meh, it was a stupid joke, get over it.

  7. Wilco Says:

    McCain is such a Maverick.
I think he’s celebrating his birthday with Cheney this year.

  8. Candyce Says:

He’s just following Bush’s lead at the 2004 Journo dinner, where he joked about not finding the WMDs under his desk, behind the curtains, under his paperwork. Since then, 2700+ Americans have died for the WMD lie. War is funny, yanno?

  9. DRxJ Says:

for all the familes that lost a loved one to an IED, to all the brave men and women who have suffered great injuries to this type of weapon (?), I apologize on behalf of McCain (since he won’t have the balls to do it, himself)

And Exley, you and I had a heated, but respectful debate on the Kerry botched joke.
I eagerly anticipate your total condemnation of Senator McCain, for his total disrespect and lack of decency for our troops

  10. Wilco Says:

Did anyone see Smerconish this moring on MSNBC? It was fascinating. Jonathan Alter said that McCain’s stance on the war has earned him his “Maverick” credentials all over again. So McCain was a maverick for going against the admin/party, and now he’s a maverick for being in lockstep with them?

  11. Democrat Soldier Says:

Rep. Murtha is a true American Patriot!

Don’t listen to the ultra-rabid right-wingers that question a person’s patriotism for not bending over backwards for the engrgious over-stepping of the Bush Administration!

Rep. Murtha is the embodiment of American patriotism!

  12. Tobey Tall Says:

    Bomb bomb bomb

    bomb bomb McCain

  13. Xbot Says:

    #6 Justin
It was a terribly tasteless joke.

How about I go to a funeral and joke about how stupid the dead person was for dying in the way he did? It’s not exactly the same, but our soldiers definetely deserve more respect than this.

Murtha definetely is a good representative, though. Even with his support of renewing the draft, I can overlook that for someone like representative Murtha.

  14. JG Says:

It was a joke, but it was in very bad taste. As was the kick the dog joke. The entire appearance on TDS was awkward, obnoxious and uncomfortable. John McCain did himself no favors by appearing. Jon Stewart is one of the best interviewers out there and he was able to make some very good points.

  15. david Says:

Reminds one of the Commander-in-Chief joking about where them pesky WMD could be while looking under the couch, behind the Oval Office desk, etc.

Rightwing jokes usually involve threats, intimidation, or doing bodily harm. They never use clever wordplay or irony or wit.

McCain might have said, “I bought you a $5 carpet. It reminded me of you, because, when it gets all wet, its colors do run. (Beat) Sadly, customs conviscated it. They thought a Comedy Central terrorist might use it to fly into Chrysler building.”

  16. And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid Says:

Republicans avoid serving in wars and run scared at the thought of putting themselves in harm’s way for their country. When you’re drinking 30-year-old scotch paid for by a lobbyist in a members-only DC club, you can sit back and chortle at the misfortunes of those “lower class” plebes who die for their country.

Bush laughs about the search for (non-existent) WMDs.

Laura Bush claims her pampered lifestyle involves more suffering than anyone else.

Barbara Bush thinks the number of troop deaths and body bags is “not relevant.”

The Bush clan continues its elitist ways — just like the childhood at the Kennebunk estate and the prep schools.

  17. TripMaster Monkey Says:

This is what the Republicans have to offer. McCain jokes about devices that kill and maim our sons and daughters on a daily basis. Giuliani plays the fear card, telling us that a Republican president can keep us safe, despite six years of evidence to the contrary.

If these are the front-runners, I’m not worried about another Republican Presidency. What does worry me is a Hillary Presidency…

  18. lw Says:

Look, John Kerry’s bad joke was criticized for days and weeks afterward. McCain even joined in on the criticism. For McCain to get away with joking about IEDs and bomb bomb bombing Iran without a similar kind of criticism would be hypocritical. And yes, it needs to be pointed out publicly.

  19. katy Says:

i winced so many times during that appearance
    i lost count… mcCAVE is an embarrassment…

  20. Laura Says:

I couldn’t believe what Pasty-face said to Jon Stewart the night before last. I was shocked that McCain could be so cavalier about it. Really, Pasty-face needs to reflect back on his days as a soldier and remember what he went through so that he might have some empathy for our troops.

  21. Zimzone Says:

    14 JG,
Agreed. Stewart’s strong suit is his interviewing skills, other than the night he let Dennis Miller blather on in Repub double speak.

McPain looked stupid & out of touch during Monday’s interview, and the IED ‘joke’ made me throw up in my mouth a little. I actually think McPain thought Jon would ‘go easy’ on him.

Now where are those impeachment articles?…under here? No, over here? No…

  22. Kate Henry Says:

Ok, I’m waiting for the Republic right wing talking head’s outrage about how McCain is disrespecting the troops. You know, like they did about Kerry’s botched joke? Silence?? What, no outrage?

So, to all the Republic trolls here, why was it ok to slam Kerry for his botched joke, but not ok to slam McCain for his “joke”? Could it be that you are a bunch of hypocrites? Nah…

  23. valiant venus Says:

Would a kindly progressive please re-count Jack Murtha’s military/combat service? We, the great “unwashed” could benefit from your amazing knowledge and insight. (I think it might prove beneficial to compare McCains’ and Murthas’ service to our country.)

  24. Buck Fush Says:

He doesn’t have a chance to be prez - his campaign is doomed which makes him irrelevant. And the IED joke, not funny.

    Hating the Repuke Mafia daily

  25. valiant venus Says:

Dear Kate - Many military members could care less about John Kerry’s “botched joke” - to them HE is the joke. His damning and self serving testimony before Congress and the hazy recollection of disposing of his military ribbon/medals did not endear Kerry to a wide number of service members.

  26. DM Says:

Murtha’s right, it’s poor taste. Probably don’t need to say any more than that though. Anyone with any humility will take the criticism, and improve from it.

On another note, Congress is now taking its cues from The Daily Show.

    We live in Bizarro World.

  28. ::: Says:

MCaine is the Repuke village idiot, just sit back and have a good laugh.

  29. JG Says:

Valiant Venus - You’re kidding right?
This isn’t about a competition of servioce or patriotism. Don’t be ridiculous. This is about being incredibly insensitive and disrespecting the pain and anguish of the thousands (no, tens of thousands) of families of those soldiers who have been killed or severely wounded (and whose lives will never be the same) by these IEDs while bravely serving our country in this illegal war. This is deadly real and deadly serious - no joking matter.
I used to at least have respect for John McCain but I was stunned hearing those words come out of his mouth while he smiled and chuckled. Any respect I once had for him was gone. He knows better than that. It was totally disrespectful and in poor taste.

  30. Tom3 Says:

Another stupid, tasteless, insensitive joke from McCain.

    McCain is toast. He’s a non-starter for 2008.

Giuliani is the front runner but he’s a cross-dresser, so he is toast too.

Repukes are going to lose BIG in 2008.

  33. Sinfonian Says:

If you missed the McCain appearance on TDS, you can view it in its entirety (two segments) here.

It was embarrassing and ridiculous for McCain. Stewart handed him his ass.

  34. DemocraticSycamore Says:

I don’t get it. I’m a lefty. It’s funny. I no longer subscribe to cable, but I can imagine seeing McCain say that to Stewart and it seems even funnier in my head. Also, I wonder if Mark Salter wrote the joke. I’ve read all three of McCain’s books. They’re not really even sprinkled with humor. But, the jokes’s funny. We gotta get over it.

  35. JG Says:

McCain deserved to be called on the carpet and Murtha was just the man to do it. Words matter.

  36. Mark Says:

    #23, since you asked…

Murtha left Washington and Jefferson College in 1952 to join the Marine Corps and was awarded the American Spirit Honor Medal for displaying outstanding leadership qualities during training. Murtha rose through the ranks to become a drill instructor at Parris Island and was selected for Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia. Murtha was then assigned to the Second Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Murtha remained in the Marine Corps Reserves, and ran a small business, Johnstown Minute Car Wash. He also attended the University of Pittsburgh on the G.I. Bill, and received a degree in economics. Murtha later took graduate courses from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Murtha married his wife Joyce on 10 June 1955. They have three children and live in Johnstown.

In 1959, Murtha, then a captain, took command of the 34th Special Infantry Company, Marine Corps Reserves, in Johnstown. He remained in the Reserves after his discharge from active duty until he volunteered for service in the Vietnam War, serving from 1966 to 1967, serving as a battalion staff officer (S-2 Intelligence Section), receiving the Bronze Star with Valor device, two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He retired from the Reserves as a colonel in 1990, receiving the Navy Distinguished Service Medal.

  37. Sinfonian Says:

For the wingnuts comparing McCain’s “joke” to Kerry, a reminder: we’re talking about a 2008 presidential candidate here. Kerry, on the other hand, was a 2004 candidate, and his “joke” occurred well after his candidacy.

It’s inexcusable for a candidate to make light of war and deaths on national television. Period.

  38. raynman Says:

will the same people who went incendiary over Sheryl Crow’s jokes be the same one’s who say ‘it was just a joke, get over it’ with McCain’s asinine comments?

  39. DRxJ Says:

notice how mighty valiant aphrodite venus, instead of acknowledging the horrible “joke” displayed by McCain, instead tries to derail the thread with bogus claims.
Thus, one must conclude that she approves of the joke, and thus hates and disrespects our troops

    Why?
Maybe too many carcinogens in her lungs, too little nutrients to keep her body functioning normally, decreasing normal oxygen to the brain.

  40. Sean Says:

As someone in the service, I found Bushes dancing and drumming more offensive than McCain’s joke. Stewart destroyed McCain in that interview, and made him look like a fool. Fine by me. However, seeing the President laughing it up and dancing around, acting like a jackass… That’s what really pisses me off. It’s the same feeling I got when I realized that Bush actually made stupid videos of his dog for Christmas. Helloooooo…. There are people DIEING….. does that even register?

    ~Sean

  41. valiant venus Says:

JG - I am not a McCain supporter. Simply, I appreciate his service and empathize with the Senators “stay” at the Hanoi Hilton. But to have the self serving Jack Murtha worry more about someones hurt feelings than getting a “clean” military appropriations bill passed, while politically correct, is sickening.

  42. valiant venus Says:

#36 - Thanks Mark - Wikipedia is clear and concise on Murtha. I was looking for his combat experience, though…..Thanks anyway!

  43. Dori VB Says:

Clearly the IED joke was a joke and was taken as a joke and really to be honest, I was more offended by MacCain wanting to kick Chloë the dog.

#15 David Now that was a joke. Made me laugh

  44. jeff Says:

About as funny as joking about not finging WMD, like Bush did at the correspondence dinner.

  46. valiant venus Says:

#37 - Sin - Kate Henry will be upset with you labelling her a “wingnut” - she brought up Kerry’s joke telling abilities in #22. (Kate might prefer the term “moonbat”.)

  47. TomInMaine Says:

It’s great to see the Dems finally calling these guys on the carpet for every stupid and insensitive remark that they make.

Lord knows we have seen and still do see the same thing coming out of the Repubs.

McCain brushes these remarks off as “get a life” well, he sure as hell didn’t say that when Kerry made a political gaffe. In fact if I recall correctly he was demanding that Kerry apologize for his remarks.

How about it McCain, seems the same standards that you and your cohorts demand from other people should apply to you and yours as well.

  48. Tom3 Says:

Chimpy is down to 28% approval now.

A strong majority of Americans want us out of Iraq. Now.

Repukes are ignoring the will of the people and they will pay for their arrogance in 2008.

  49. green917 Says:

    VirulentVenus,

I normally don’t feed the trolls but, you’re a moron if you think you really want the answer to that question. Rep. John “Jack” Murtha has done nothing but serve his country in his adult life. He served 37 years (for the record, that’s about 14 years longer than McCain served) in the Marine Corps. Hope that answers your question (even though it was a completely bullsh*t and irrelevant question).

  52. Dave in NYC Says:

I’m a liberal with no love for McCain, but I would say “get over yourself”, too, when it comes to this. I have a hard time seeing how this disrespects the troops. Kerry’s joke was worse even though I’d much rather have him as President than Bush or McCain.

  53. Tom3 Says:

Repukes HATE OUR TROOPS and INSULT THEM.

The latest Repuke talking point is that leaving Iraq means our troops “surrender”.

Surrender means when you lose the battle and give up your army to the enemy.

Our troops have not lost any battles in Iraq and are not surrendering if we leave Iraq. So “surrender” is a Repuke LIE.

So, the Repukes are INSULTING our troops by saying they are surrendering. This is a vicious insult to our brave troops.

  54. valiant venus Says:

    “I normally don’t feed the trolls but,….” Why start now? I don’t eat what you’re serving…

  55. david Says:

The Republican Right must be torturing McCain because he’s saying whatever they want to hear. Now, I wonder if McCain finds torture jokes tasteless.

What’s odd about the IED joke is that it was passive aggressive. It suggested a desire to censor Stewart. Now, had he been more self-deprecating –you know, checked under his own chair for an IED and said “You can’t be too careful when you’re in enemy territory.”

The tastelessness of a joke can be determined by translating the joke into plain language. McCain’s joke translated “I wish you were dead”. Not exactly a nice thing to say. My joke above, perhaps not very funny, would translate, “I feel nervous coming here and fear for my political life”. A much more honest statement.

  56. Tom3 Says:

The OBVIOUS difference between McCain and Kerry is that Kerry FLUBBED a joke. He was not intending to insult the troops, he told the joke wrong.

McCain IS insulting the troops, his joke was not a flub.

  57. michael Says:

    Dave NYC!
Stop it, no comparison between Kerry’s joke and McCain’s. I loved it when McCain told Jon Stewart “I hate to repeat myself”, that all he does. He has no fresh ideas.

  58. klyde Says:

Jack, Jack, Jack you still don’t understand: singing about bombing Iran to the tune of ‘Barbara Ann’, laughing about kicking a dog, jokes about IED? Doesn’t matter IOKIYAR!

    No, she only eats Uranus.

  60. LeftRhino Says:

McCain told everyone today to “lighten up and get a life” as other trolls on this site have. I’m sure the troops who died from IED’s would love that option, along with there families and friends. But they gave the ultimate sacrifice and don’t get to make jokes or run for president.

  61. Bob Says:

    “Why start now? I don’t eat what you’re serving…”

That’s because VV consumes the souls of little children. Demonspawn!

  62. Mudge Says:

I have met and talked to Jack Murtha. He is not a jokester and he is very serious about the troops. To #41, choose to call him self-serving and by all means use the admin spin and call it a clean bill. You have defined yourself. You are to be ignored. Nice of you to haul out politically correct too, the trifecta of talking points.

Consider. On the one hand Dick Cheney accuses Harry Reid of undermining morale by saying, after careful evaluation of the situation, that the war is lost. On the other hand McCain jokes about, takes lightly, IEDs, which kill soldiers all the time and yet that flippancy will have no impact on the troops? No one should ever joke about the dangers of ongoing combat, especially a presidential candidate on a popular show. McCain’s “credentials” as a prisoner of war do not allow him that freedom.

  63. IraqVet Says:

    Dave,

Are you kidding? You must be, because you are advocating that Bombing Iran and IED’s are acceptable consequences for this country!!! McCain is an IDIOT and a MORON! But, to insinuate that Kerry said something improper is typical of the disconnect that this country is facing…

TRUTH is always jumped on by the REICH-WINGERS, where as lies, crimes, and misdeeds are though of as harmless mistakes.

Reading is fundamental (Dave), I suggest you try and include comprehension as well before you make IDIOTIC comments like the one you just made!

  64. ann Says:

If a Dem had cracked wise like McCain, they would have been accused of treason. Reps only have a sense of humor when they are the ones trying to crack jokes.

  65. katy Says:

the best part of that interview:
the audience applauded a comment of jon’s… mcCAVE said “i know what side they’re on”… and jon said “THEY ARE ON AMERICA’S SIDE”…

paraphrasing, of course, but i thought that was a perfect
    example of jon’s masterful skills…

  66. valiant venus Says:

“….So, the Repukes are INSULTING our troops by saying they are surrendering. This is a vicious insult to our brave troops….”
    Comment by Tom3

T3, the troops aren’t surrendering…..that is the goal of the Dem Congress. Of course, they can’t wait for the full surge battle group to arrive before they declare defeat and they can’t pass a non-pork laden appropriations bill…but what do you expect? They’re liberals…..

I think you had it right with the first sentence - the goal is to derail.

Disrespect for our troops is merely an irrelevant consequence.

You must be, because you are advocating that Bombing Iran and IED’s are acceptable consequences for this country!!!

No, I’m not. And actually, I thought McCain’s “Bomb Iran” joke was unacceptable. McCain’s IED joke - I don’t really see the problem (even though I didn’t think it was funny).

Making a joke about an IED doesn’t mean you want our troops to be killed by IEDs or that it’s okay for our troops to be killed by IEDs. There’s no possible way a rational person could make that reading.

Stop it, no comparison between Kerry’s joke and McCain’s.

I only brought up Kerry’s joke in response to other people who seemed to think that what Kerry said was okay. It wasn’t, either. What matters is that Kerry and the Democrats have generally shown respect for the troops in general, whereas the Republicans and McCain have not.

  70. hellinabucket Says:

It is well known that McCain has a distaste for his blogosphere critics, causing a definite conflict of interest where any proposal to restrict blogs on his part is concerned.”

  72. DRxJ Says:

“I don’t know how to respond to that kind of hysteria,” McCain said when asked about Murtha’s demand during an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Thursday
Bull$hit! You know how to respond, just follow lock and step like you did over the Kerry botched joke (which was insulting the president, not our troops).
A little touchy, these days, Senator?

  73. Dave in NYC Says:

And yes, I know that in the prepared remarks, Kerry’s comment was different and that joke would have been fine.

    Comment by DemocraticSycamore”

    The “joke” was not funny.

The audience kind of gasped, then groaned.

The fact that you describe yourself with the somewhat pejorative term “lefty” suggests that you’re more troll than anything else.

  75. valiant venus Says:

#67 - Gorn - Wrong. The goal is to illustrate (conversions of the delusional are not possible) the lack of importance contemporary Dems place on national security and fighting terrorism. You recall the mewling outrage when progs thought we might actually infiltrate terror cells through (gasp!) bank transfer monitoring and overseas phone calls? You recall the Left saying, their was no evidence of Saddam’s colllusion with bin Laden? Perhaps not - but there is and was evidence that Saddam welcomed terrorists to Iraq with open arms for medical care and as a place to slyly meet. It’s ironic to watch Progs defend enemies of our country with such missplaced “righteousness”.

    Thanks for your input!

  76. david Says:

Re: Post 71. Yes, you see, McCain’s joke was really pro-censorship. It didn’t insult the troops, it insulted the press. The joke translates: “I hate you and I wish you were dead.” And we certainly saw why McCain fears Stewart; it was not a pretty interview.

I love all the boot-licking little Bushies that come to this blog and act like progressives, and try to steer attention away from the actual message. It doesn’t work. I’m not really sure why you waste your time? I feel strongly about the causes that mean a lot to me, but I don’t go to NeoCon blogs to disrupt, attack, and basically do a poor job at trying to make my point. Think about it? Knowing that you don’t have the truth on your side, yet still try and propagate a lie?

Here is the difference between you and most people in this blog. Most people in this blog actually give a sh!t! All I ever see being parroted from the trolls are selfish remarks with no true morals behind it. You can’t even support your arguments. The point with John McCain isn’t that he made a joke on Jon Stewarts show that was tasteles. It is that he as his centerpiece states he “supports our troops”. Any thinking person that has any empathy would not make a statement like that and frame it in a joke. It wouldn’t have entered their lexicon as something to joke about. That’s the point.

  81. hellinabucket Says:

Valiant, your ignorance is in full swing. There have been no established operational ties between the Secular Saddam and the ideological Al Qiada. None. Bring out the evidence and then we’ll debate it but you can’t because there isn’t any operational ties.

National Security? you want to hang your hat on that? damn your dumb. and you have a short memory. It was the republicans that were fighting for giving our port security over to another country. A middle eastern country to secure our own borders.

Read the articles of impeachment and then come back and we can debate those anytime.

The republicans and cons want to defend an ideal half way around the world that wasn’t fully baked before the asshats took it out of the oven but didn’t have a problem in handing our ports over to another country.

You are legless in this so far….

  82. Exley Says:

I have nothing but respect for John McCain. I don’t always agree with him (i.e. McCain-Feingold) but there is no doubt he is a patriot. Read “The Nightingale’s Song” by Robert Timberg to see what he went through for his country as a P.O.W. in North Vietnam for over five years. No one can doubt his empathy with the troops….

Having said that, this was a bad “joke.” I don’t think he meant any offense, but it was thoughtless and insensitive to those wounded by IEDs and the families of those killed by such devices. He should apologize.

  83. david Says:

And McCain’s “Bomb Iran” serenade translated “I’ll sing-along to your Islamophobia”. It trivialized an important issue, but it showed how low he will sink to appease his base. That’s what McCain’s platform is a policy of appeasement.

  84. Jake Says:

Surely there are more important topics for debate on the floor than what happened on the Today Show the night before?

It was almost a year ago right now that I met John Murtha in Chicago’s O’Hare airport. I told the Congressman about an encounter and discussion I’d had that morning with Senator Dick Lugar (R-IN) regarding the war in Iraqnam. Completing my story, Murtha got a big smile on his face, he slapped me on that back and said “way to go. Fuck ‘em”. Something tells me that had decorum allowed it yesterday from the floor of the House, Murtha would have said the same thing to McCain that he said to me about another Repugnican.

that Saddam/Alqueda story has been debunked, and in fact Saddam and Al-Queda were enemes. saddam was a secular dictator, bin laden was a religious extremist. the two mixed together like oil and water. i know in your simple, meth addled brain, the whole world hates us and are plotting against us together….but its only in your mind and knowhere else..

“Three former Bush administration officials who worked on intelligence and national security issues have told National Journal that the prewar evidence tying al Qaeda to Iraq was tenuous, exaggerated, and often at odds with the conclusions of key intelligence agencies. The Bush alumni, as well as other intelligence veterans and some members of Congress, say they see parallels between how the administration painted the Qaeda connection to Iraq and the way that the White House often portrayed intelligence about weapons of mass destruction as being definitive or rock solid.

“Our conclusion was that Saddam would certainly not provide weapons of mass destruction or WMD knowledge to al Qaeda because they were mortal enemies,” said Greg Thielmann, who worked at the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research on weapons intelligence until last fall. “Saddam would have seen al Qaeda as a threat, and al Qaeda would have opposed Saddam as the kind of secular government they hated”

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! The trolls here are trolls because almost to a fault they bring ZERO to the table other than to derail any discussions going on.

They have nothing, so they drum up BS out of nothing to try and justify the fact that they support these monsters. The blood will be on their hands when all is said and done. The are the cheerleaders of a failed policy that kills AMERICANS DAILY!

It doesn’t, I agree. Whats amazing is the valiant parasite is so stupid that not only was her insinutaion irrelevant, but it was also completely and totally wrong. With all the “im currently baking the troops a hair pie” stories she had, you think she’d at least know what a purple heart is for..

If you think “declaring defeat” and allowing anti-US elitists to cry about safeguarding ourselves from further terror attacks is a topical diverson you are an ideal member of the “I hate George Bush” bandwagon.

But as our enemy is not a force to be negotiated or appeased, there is not substitute for engaging and killing our enemy….make no mistake. They want you dead as much (or more) than me.

I’ll ask again, hag, who do you think you’re fooling? Your only purpose here is to divert, and it’s quite transparent.

  121. david Says:

As best I can tell McCain was jinxed as a pilot. He crashed a plane while training. His jet was blownup by ‘friendly fire’ while still on the deck of an aircraft carrier and the explosions that followed killed over 100 sailors. Then he was shot down and captured by the North Vietnamese.

The guy is jinxed. And there’s no need to respect him. Privately, he has always told offensive, offcolor, insensitive, sexist and racist jokes. “Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?…” And he was a member of the corrupt Keating Five. He’s not to be respected. And he’s not presidential material. Not unless you want more of what you have now.

  124. Bruce Gorton Says:

VV is your common rightwinger everyone. Take a look at her, take a long hard look.

She has not problem with spouting outright lies like “Saddam had links to Al Qaeada” in order to try and make her point.

She claims to be married to a soldier, yet she doesn’t even know what a purple heart represents. I know what a purple heart represents and I am not even an American.

She even at one point, gloated about her child dying, and having one of that child’s siblings, comfort her by telling her that at least her dead kid didn’t grow up to have differing political views to her. She thought it was sweet, most sane people, would take it as a sign of child abuse.

Frankly, VV has nothing to contribute to this blog, she has only repeatedly posted well known lies, let me be the first to ask that she get banned, and her IP logged. Sure, dissenting views are worthwhile, but frankly combating her lies, doesn’t further the discussion. She is a waste of our time, in a time of crisis.

If any real conservatives are reading, know that I kind of consider you suspect as people, mainly due to the example provided by those like VV. If you could join this discussion and show that really your side is not quite that batshit insane, or that reliant of lies, I would apreciate it as I do like arguing with people whose arguments I can at least trust for their honesty.

    Thankyou.

  128. paul Says:

Okay, McCain tells a joke on the Daily Show. What about the joke that Murta (Democrat) is still around after contemplating selling out for the bribe in the ABSCAM tape.

Here’s McCain’s apology. “I’m sorry for telling an incensitive joke on a comedy show (even though I sacrificed 5 1/2 years of my life as a POW for this country).

This could be Murtha’s apology. I apologize that my lack of an original political point of view has resulted in my selling out this country for a second time. In my greed for more political power, I have engaged in dishonest defeatist rhetoric that undermines our troops and their efforts in the middle east. I only hope that my efforts will only weaken our country temporarily. (Long enough to enjoy the power my naive progressive friends have entrusted me with).

    >Bruce, you bumbling, but loveable idiot. I did not say I did not know what >a Purple Heart was. I have been privileged to see them up close and >personal. I asked how about Murtha or Kerry’s Purple Heart wounds

My name is John but I assume your talking to me since im the one calling you out in this. You asked about combat/military experience you moron…

That is what I responded. Now when your idiocy is outed, you suddenly want to know “Where did he get his TWO purple hearts AND his Cross of Gallantry?”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/ Vietnamese_Cross_of_Gallantry

“Also known as the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, the Gallantry Cross is awarded to any military personnel who have accomplished deeds of valor or displayed heroic conduct while fighting an enemy force.”

Gee, I don’t know..I’d say statiscially the chances of all 3 of these medals being gotten for false or petty reasons is pretty close to nil. Especially since he got one from the SK army as well. Maybe you can dig up some neocon flaghumper scumbag willing to go on Tv and say so. You people will say anything to slander those who disagree with you.

Got any evidence at all that Murtha’s medals wern’t properly earned?

Like exley, your pretty demanding about seeing absolute proof/knowing every single detail when it comes to something or someone you disagree with. But if Preznit Bush says something, boy, don’t ask for any proof or verification there huh? Bomb, kill, and imprison first, and ask questions never.

Your pathetic. Again, I’m sorry your so horribly ugly but thats no reason to spread your malicious bile from that puckered oozing vagina you call lips.

  135. Knappy Headed Ho Says:

oh and Valiant Anus, where have you seen a purple heart? was it when you were representing a soldier in court? do you still claim to be a lawyer?

  136. Fuzzy Says:

I have personally experienced IEDs, small arms fire and rockets. During my 14 months in the box we joked about it every day. That was just a part of getting through it. If you can’t stop it, the only thing you can do is laugh at it. Do I, an ex-soldier feel that McCain owes me an apology for joking about IEDs? NO, nor do I want an apology from the guys I joked about it with for over a year. The fight between these two has been brewing for years. The fact that Murtha is using my-self and my fellow soldiers as ammunition against McCain is more offensive to me than the Joke that McCain told.
