“Rep. Rick Renzi, R-Ariz., could soon step down in the wake of a federal investigation into his involvement in a federal land swap deal and FBI raids of an insurance agency owned by his wife. His resignation could come as early as Friday or soon after, according to sources familiar with the matter. Top Republicans, including U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl, have been meeting to discuss what they will do if Renzi resigns and his rural congressional seat opens up.” (Via War & Piece)
Duke Cunningham, Tom Delay, Bob Ney, Mark Foley and now Rick Renzi. The Republican Felon squad can play the Harlem Globetrotters for fundraisers.

April 27th, 2007 at 12:00 am…to spend more time with family, i’m sure.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:00 amOh my God, I’m in his district. He’s a freshman, and already busted. Friggin’ hilarious!
April 27th, 2007 at 12:03 amI think that as a resident of Arizona, but not a constituent, that his constituents should be mad as hell that they were not given a proper chance to cast an informed vote in November. His district should be allowed to either hold a special election, or have our Democratic Governor appoint someone to his office.
And this is Renzi’s third term.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:09 amDoes the Governor appoint a replacement? do they hold an election?
April 27th, 2007 at 12:09 amrachel maddow linked to this verrrry interesting video…

April 27th, 2007 at 12:11 amg’nite all…
What? A Republican congressman about to resign because of a federal investigation into corruption that will probably land him in prison?
How unusual.
Startin’ to see a pattern, yet, trolls?
April 27th, 2007 at 12:17 amI consider the 3rd term still a somewhat of a newbie.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:17 amRenzi was being investigated before the election, and it came out “nothing happened” at the time.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:18 amIs that what GOP really stands for, G(oing) O(ff to) P(rison)?
Another down, hundreds to go.
How can we afford to incarcerate so many Republicans? The final bill is going to be atronomical.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:19 amI didn’t vote for him, but he won by a pretty good margin.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:20 amAnd, for all of those Arizona publishers, editors, and journalists who didn’t think there was really anything worth writing about there while Renzi was running for re-election, guess what. There was. I hope you feel like corruption-enabling idiots now.

Comment by the republic of stupidity —
Isn’t Babs Bush well invested in stock with the prison industry? Maybe she can cut a deal.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:30 amIndeed, No. 13, indeed. No doubt Halliburton and Bechtel are both gearing up to bid for the prison construction contracts we will have to hand out soon. Billions and billions of dollars… geez, these guys just keep finding new ways to bleed the public coffers dry.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:36 am#11 you are correct — he won 51% to 43%, but I just wonder if the US attorney Charlton had not postponed the investigation into Renzi until after the election, if it would have made a difference… and it probably would have…
April 27th, 2007 at 12:39 amOk fine I’m lying my ass off about Renzi. But he’s still screwed. Heh.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:43 amOk so US Attorney Charlton could have investigated Renzi before the election, but agreed to postpone it. Cool. Then the guy was fired for going after Renzi. Corrupt establishment.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:46 am14 republic of stupidity
I heard a phrase from a caller on one of the talk shows that seems really ‘fitting’:
“We dividing into 2 groups: global elitists and national populists”
WAKE UP PEOPLE
April 27th, 2007 at 12:50 amNo 18…
“Global elitists and national populists…â€
Sounds about right to me. Sure as Dick Chaney’s a lying crook from Hell, I hope there’s more of us than them. Ive never seen anything like this in my entire life. I swear to God, these SOBs are/were trying to steal the entire freakin’ planet right out from under our noses.
April 27th, 2007 at 12:55 amNoooo, please stay the course. We need you to be an anchor. Around the neck of the republic party, that is.
April 27th, 2007 at 1:01 am“We need you to be an anchor.”
When asked for a reply, all Renzi could say was, “Glub… glub… glub…”
April 27th, 2007 at 1:11 amNo, No, don’t do it, we need your presence in congress. Shows just how you are helping to bring honesty and integraty to government.
Come on, you conservatives out there, (patti puke, roger-doger, multi-name jake, jj trailer trash, viliantdouchebag) speak up, let’s hear those talking points…..
ALL TOGETHER NOW…..CLINTON DID IT !!
Hating the Repuke idiots daily
April 27th, 2007 at 1:33 amHow sweet it is (with apologies to Jackie Gleason)
April 27th, 2007 at 5:36 amSo?
April 27th, 2007 at 8:07 amGeorge Bush is a low iq president sore lacking in diplomcy and has basic ignorance of world affairs. He’s a disgrace to our country
April 27th, 2007 at 8:18 amHe bought this election. He is not qualified and is ignorant in world and national events. He’s a monumental disgrace to our country,
April 27th, 2007 at 8:23 amJust three days ago he was real happy the FBI had raided his wife’s business. He said it was the first step toward “getting the truth out.”
Now it seems getting the truth out involves leaving congress so he and OJ can hunt down the REAL criminals.
Makes sense to me.
April 27th, 2007 at 9:16 amNotice how the trolls aren’t touching this. Hmmm, I wonder why?
April 27th, 2007 at 10:51 amSo how come the MSM is ignoring this story? Could it be — Satan — as the church lady would say? Could it be Republican corporate media ownership.
Who knows? Eventually there will be a cleaning of the pukes that will make Watergate look like childs’ play.
