still hard at work:
For the moment, Gonzales’ days will be spent in much the same way they have been for most of the spring: preparing to defend himself before Congress. With the May 10 hearing before Conyers’ committee fast approaching, the attorney general is certain to face new questions from members of Congress armed with information gleaned from testimony by McNulty, Moschella, Comey and possibly Goodling. As if that wasn’t enough, Gonzales must also prepare for a May 9 Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, in which he’ll be asked detailed questions about his management of the rest of the 110,000-person department.

April 28th, 2007 at 12:43 pmHow much preparation does it take to say, “I can’t recall?” I think Jon Stewart was right about these people. It is better to play dumb and protect the “boss” than show any kind of intelligence. Loyality is more important to them then the law. I’m sure Alberto will receive the Medal of Freedom for his outstanding work.
April 28th, 2007 at 12:44 pmGonzales, stop making an ass of yourself and holding up the US justice system to ridicule and just resign!
April 28th, 2007 at 12:44 pmI thought Gonzo had accused himself before congress with the painful pathetic performance he displayed.
April 28th, 2007 at 12:46 pmLOL Gonzales does not work hard, because he is just a Bush stooge.

My bet is that Gonzales is spending his time holed up with his criminal defense attorneys trying to figure out how to avoid prison.
April 28th, 2007 at 1:05 pmBy the time Gonzo’s next hearing occurs, there will be so much new information as well as testimony from within Gonzales’s inner sanctum that Gonzo will be found to have perjured himself or will look like an even larger buffoon than he’s already looked.
April 28th, 2007 at 1:06 pmI like that: Bush Stooge….that’s a totally relevant description for Gonzo.
April 28th, 2007 at 1:07 pmI don’t believe that Gonzo CAN avoid prison. After all, when the Dept. of Justice engages in illegal activities, then lies to cover them up, it’s still called “obstruction of justice”. If it were someone else, his DOJ would be going after them – big time.
April 28th, 2007 at 1:08 pmFor the latest news, document dumps, email archives, hearing transcripts and other essential materials in the firings of U.S. attorneys, see:
April 28th, 2007 at 1:11 pm“The U.S. Attorney Scandal Documents.”
I can also say it backwards, “llacer t’nod I” “rebmemersim” “togrof I”
That takes practice! See?
April 28th, 2007 at 1:12 pmGonzo is irrelevant. Why are they calling him back? It’s Monica who is the key. It is important for the congressional investigators to not give a broad grant of immunity to Goodling. It’s clear that she was the prime gatekeeper for ALL communications with the WH.
My guess is that she resigned because she wiped her hard drive. If they give her a broad grant of immunity, she will suffer from the same case of Alzheimer’s disease that is sweeping through the DoJ. Alzheimer’s is not known to be infectious, but maybe this is a unique development.
(As an aside, I’m sure you will all agree that this is a terrible, terrible problem. Such a terrible waste of mental capacity and a huge public health risk if it’s infectious. Perhaps it was a terrorist action! We should bring in the FBI to investigate…and give them broad powers to investigate this case of dometic terrorism.)
Back to Monica. If they don’t give her a broad grant, she will plead the fifth. The next step would be to subpoena her hard drive. At this point, Gonzo is irrelevant. Once Goodling is busted, the cards will fall. But she won’t be busted if they don’t do it right.
April 28th, 2007 at 1:13 pmbeobjective > I believe the Bush Regime replaced all the hard drives on WH PCs. That is the only way to completely get rid of stuff. If Congress can prove that, then it’s grounds for a charge of obstruction of justice by destroying evidence.
April 28th, 2007 at 1:19 pmIf Gonzo had spent more time protecting the Constitution and the rights of people, he would not now have to spend so much time trying to protect his own a**. Any prison sentence should be equal to or more than the number of years he has been a Bush crony.
April 28th, 2007 at 1:30 pmLet’s ship him some of those newfangled memory pills!!!!!
Oh, wait there anen’t any.
Why is this guy so loyal to Bush? He had to endure the Bruising from the Senate committe with all that BS “I don’t recall” all in the name of maintaining the White House “image” what ever that may be at this point.
April 28th, 2007 at 1:38 pmHilarity will ensure on May 10!
Go Gonzo!
April 28th, 2007 at 1:55 pmDo you think he will remember?
Jon Stewart made a comment last night on Bill Moyer’s program about AG — something like he would rather portray himself as an emptyheaded incompetent fool, than tell the truth. Bush likes it that way.
April 28th, 2007 at 2:02 pm#16 – Oops.
*ensue*
April 28th, 2007 at 2:24 pmMr. Gonzales couldn’t manage the legal issues or people he was “in charge” of when he was White House Counsel. Addington and Rove did it then, and continued to do it when Gonzales went to the DOJ. Just as Mr. Cheney runs most of the WH, leaving Mr. Bush on the hook.
Any CEO who spends all his time explaining what he’s doing, obviously isn’t doing what he’s explaining. Congress should demand Mr. Gonzales’ resignation; if he stays any lonnger, it should demand his pay back.
April 28th, 2007 at 3:22 pmThe challenge for Gonzales is that he is doing his prep work with “Loyal Bushies.” Since loyalty trumped competence in hires throughout the Bush Administration, Gonzales must be having a difficult time obtaining quality legal representation.
Can you imagine him doing mock interviews with Regent U’s law graduates, and then having to go before Senators and Representatives who have top-notch attorneys on their staffs?
