Bush to announce massive new drilling plan.

“The Interior Department will announce a proposal Monday to allow oil and gas drilling in federal waters near Virginia that are currently off-limits and permit new exploration in Alaska’s Bristol Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. … The Virginia shore is dotted with barrier islands and lagoons, most of them largely unspoiled. The Virginia coast has been designated a World Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations, and a National Natural Landmark by the Interior Department.”

Bush does not care about the environment. He does whatever the OIL Lobby desires and will not care when a OIL spill destroys the coastline.

Speaking of exploring for oil, what is the unseemly interest that Bush and Cheney are now showing in Somalia and Ethiopia? For some excellent background information, do a google or clusty search for “Conoco Somalia Ltd”… Find out why the Bush crime family has murdered hundreds of citizens of Somalia…

George Bush is the worst steward of the environment ever in the history of this country. He obviously cares for no one but himself – whether his grandchildren are polluted out the whazoo is totally irrelevant to him. He’s the “instant gratification” guy.

It appears that someone is using my moniker today? Hmmm…interesting…perhaps it’s an honest mistake; otherwise, it’s not me unless using this moniker.

  11. VerbalKint says:

This will come at a price for the Republicans. People don’t want offshore drilling, which is why Bush cut a deal with his brother to put it off the table in Florida.

  12. Jay Randal says:

Bush never tells the American public that the OIL industry in the United States is subsidized by taxpayers. OIL companies pay ZERO royalties on OIL extraction and roads/pipelines paid by our government treasury. It’s a great deal for the OIL Cartel, because they reap all of the profits.

Repukes will now lose all the votes in Virginia and Alaska, that’s certain.

  15. Jay Randal says:

All the OIL that has been extracted in Alaska has been sold to Japan, so the expensive pipeline we the taxpayers paid for has been used to benefit the Japanese.

If it wasn’t for the corporate, fat cat, dickheads of Big Oil (and Big Oil,ass-kissing politicians like Bush), most of us would be driving either hybrid, electric, or hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles by now. The technology is already here, and by now we could’ve made a hell of a difference in lessening our dependence in foreign oil.

They predict oil will spike at $4 a gallon come this summer. It’s time to tell Big Oil to get bent! I’m also ready to ditch my current vehicle for an alternative fuel car.

Yes, let’s impeach the Chimp, and Darth Cheney!

  26. Anon says:

More politics as usual. This is actually a nice plan – propose drilling that they *know* the Democratic congress will not accept, then blame Democrats for high oil/gas prices!

  27. Marie says:

This is a proposal — does it come up for a vote? Can Congress halt it? If that is possible, anyone who votes against it will be blamed for high fuel prices, but I think the public may see through it.

I don’t mind conserving. But the US has a high demand and low supply. If we get more supply and boost the local economy (I live in VA) I’m all for it.

    Comment by Kevin

Dream on. Wait until you have your first oil spill; then you’ll sin a different tune. And is really a coincidence that Bush is pushing this now int he Gulf, after being against it for so long? We’re discussing drilling in the east bay; Bush’s brother has stymied all attempts to drill in the eastbay. But now that Bush’s brother is no longer governor of Florida, he no longer has to be so sensitive to the concerns of residents of Florida’s west coast. Politics trumps all with the corrupt Bushes, even environmental concerns of Bush’s previously staunchest supporters.

  45. barfly says:

That’s “sing a different tune.” Oops.

  46. muckdog says:

First, we need the oil. We use 20 million barrels a day and 12 million of that is from foreign sources.

Next, environmental whackos won’t allow more refineries. Lawsuits. New, tight, impracticle clean air requirements. Etc.

Finaly, there isn’t any other available fuel source at a reasonable cost.

We should be drilling, drilling, and drilling for all the oil we can. We need it. There isn’t an alternative.

That’s probably why Bush has had so many species taken off the endangered list by political hack, not recommended by scientists.

He couldn’t propose drilling if the species were endangered. So just change the list.

Ever heard of the Cargo Cultists?

They are a primitive culture; who build likenesses of airplanes, because they think it will entice a god from the heavens (passenger ‘planes passing overhead) to come down to Earth. You represent the newest form: the Kool-Aid Cultist, who swallows everything their “god” tells them in the hopes that he will deliver them from their never-ending terrors. You have about as much chance as they do of getting your wish.

  57. Saywho says:

The past 6 years have been about ONE THING…

The WORLD is running out of ENERGY and the global population depends on OIL for its FOOD

None of you seem to realize that if 85,000,000 barrels of oil are not pumped each and every day the global population will hit a CLIFF…

This shows exactly how desperate things have become. In the US once oil goes over $100.00 per barrel the entire economy will head into a never ending depression that will only end after the Earth’s human population returns to its PRE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION NUMBERS.

Ghawar (SA Oil Well) is now in permanent production DECLINE. The USAs best hope was IRAQ but few are reading between the lines and a potential withdrawal will be the financial death nail for the USA. So now it appears that drilling will start since solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, ethanol, NG, coal, etc. can only produce a fraction of the energy needed to sustain an industrial nation.

Like I mentioned, without oil we will starve so in a way we find ourselves locked into what looks like the great apocalypse of the book of Revelations. There might even be an antichrist around for all we know. Why else would these neo-cons do what they did? Their position and stand damage them as well as us since after what Putin said that our mutual destruction is now ensured.

I’m sorry that this sounds bad but the party is over folks and the hangover can now begin.

  58. barrelhse says:

    This really can’t go on.

    katy,

A great deal of “old” blueblood money is (and has been) invested in the oil industry…

…during the Clinton years the investment trend tended toward newer technology and consequently OIL stocks tanked…

…silicon valley boomed and so did the investment portfolios of the nouveau riche tech barons (and their offerings)…

…as SOON as Bushiva (and L’il Dick) took office Bushiva (with Alan Greenspan’s help)…

…talked the stock market down and as a result high tech stocks tanked…

…and oil stocks rebounded in a big way…

…then came 9/11, the WAR and the rest is HIS (their-big oil’s) story…
