  11. raynman Says:

I guess Bush really isn’t about making sure that the funding is there for the troops. This bill was really pretty toothless when it came to bringing the troops back home, it was more symbolic than anything.

But even that symbolic ‘assault’ on his Presidency was enough to keep Bush from living up to his own words.

I am shocked I tell you. but it is good that the war will now come to an end so much sooner. look forward to our people coming home now so we can help them recover

Bush has the actions of a spoiled child- the parent (those who sent the funding bill to 1600 Penn Ave)

Bush the Coward hides behind the troops for the umpteenth time. The person who drove this bus into the ditch countless times is still insisting that he is the best qualified driver - and the troops pay the price.

This is a fight between the Congress and the White House as to the best way to go froward. Bush the Coward need to get out from behind the troops and face the facts.

  34. Shane Says:

Pelosi and Reid are supposed to speak again in a few minutes.

Trolls, why aren’t you off on some neocon site talking about how great Bush is?

  35. raynman Says:

The President vetoed our troops and the American people. His stubborn commitment to a failed strategy in Iraq is incomprehensible. He committed our great military to a failed strategy in violation of basic principles of war. His failure to mobilize the nation to defeat world wide Islamic extremism is tragic. We deserve more from our commander-in-chief and his administration.
–Maj. Gen. John Batiste, USA, Ret.

This administration and the previously Republican controlled legislature have been the most caustic agents against America’s Armed Forces in memory. Less than a year ago, the Republicans imposed great hardship on the Army and Marine Corps by their failure to pass a necessary funding language. This time, the President of the United States is holding our Soldiers hostage to his ego. More than ever apparent, only the Army and the Marine Corps are at war - alone, without their President’s support.
–Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, USA, Ret.

Why does the military hate the military?

  36. Publicus Says:

There shouldn’t be a “next bill”. No money, no war.

Tell Bush (don’t “ask”) that he needs to bring our troops home starting now; as they begin to return, Congress will make more money available to complete the withdrawal.

  37. CW Says:

The price of gasoline is going up without a withdrawal of troops from Iraq, michael. And it is ludicrous to suggest that we stay there simply to keep the prices down.

If we realistically plan to end this occupation in the midst of a civil war, we can actually REDUCE the amount of US funds that are being flushed down the toilet in Iraq. We will need that money anyway to pay for the care that our wounded troops are going to need when they return from Iraq.

Once we are gone, the terrorist-creating occupation will end, and I believe the Iraqi people will turn their energies toward rebuilding their country and their lives. The occupation is INFLAMING the people, and CREATING the very terrorists that we insist we need to be there to fight. An endless, fruitless, pointless, destructive cycle that CONGRESS in its wisdom, would like to end.

  38. Erroll Says:

    #14 -Jangbood

“Cutting off funds for the troos [sic] are putting them in harm’s way.” No, no, a thousand times no. Please try to get your fact straight before making such erroneous statements. As Congressman Kucinich has tried to point out, apparently to no avail, there already is enough money in the pipeline to provide for the troops and have enough money left over to ensure that they can be withdrawn from that quagmire within a two to three month period. The Democrats have it within their power to bring this occupation to an end but inexplicably refuse to do, thereby leading one to conclude that there is little if any difference between the two major War Parties.

George Bush, in an act of shear petulance, single-handedly cut off the very funds he implored Congress for — and thus does not support the troops or America — by way of his reprehensible and unforgivable veto. It must now be clear, beyond all doubt, that Bush wishes a war of perpetuity. His contempt for Congress, the will of the people and the Constitution is beyond treason and sedition. History will judge him as not only the worst president in American history, but the most provincial-minded, bellicose and fool-hearty man to ever occupy the Whitehouse. Quite simply, this is despotism and the end of democracy in America. This is endless war, death, bloodshed and repression without a shred of rationale or reason. How incredibly sad.

  49. Marie Says:

Of course, there would be a story about a high ranking Al Qaeda leader having been killed today. The story is slowly being taken back and not reported any more — because it was strictly a public relations move to get attention away from the growing antiwar movement and the anniversary of his infamous day on the battleship.
The stubborn, petulant boy-king has stamped his foot and said, No I won’t! It’s long past time for the spoiled brat to be forced to obey the adults.

Pretty damning words from 2 of the ex-Military leaders of the Iraq War.

  52. veritas Says:

Bush looks like a misanthrope while he turns on the american people and the military; Reed and Pelosi look like the heroes.
With this veto, Bush has signalled the death nell to the GOP. There’s no point in having any Republican candidate debates; their quest for the presidency of this country now will be a totally moot point.

  53. Saywho Says:

Look this whole thing including this funding bill is a complete hoax with the intention of allowing congress to “appear” against this plunder. Try to understand that the military has run EVERYTHING for a good long time. The world has out of cheap energy and the US will never exit Iraq.

Congress knows this and that is why they sent the military in. It must by now be up to a million dead Iraqis and the US death total is downplayed. Many more are dead but those numbers are not factored into the KIA numbers. Both sides know it and even the Dems during the debates talk about how Iran this and Iran that…

Don’t be fooled, without our presence in the Mideast (military) all of the OPEC nations will switch to the Euro and the Euro is UP while the US Dollar is in terminal decline. During all of this the US intends to merge with Canada & Mexico and convert to the Amero Dollar…

    Wake up.

Bush is beginning to look like a very sick, demented psycho as he tries to unsucessfully “spin” why he cut money from our troops. He can try it till the cows come home; it will still read: Bush Vetoes Money for our Troops in Iraq. End of story.

why are the liberals playing politics with our troops?

why didn’t the liberals send this bill, that they new the President was going to veto, as soon as they finished voting on it? why delay funding for our troops?

why are the liberals playing politics with our troops?

Didn’t you just love Nancy’s allusion to Bush’s level of hypocrisy by bringing up Bush’s statement about Kosovo during Clinton’s administration and then contrasting it to his doubletalk now?? It was priceless! Pelosi rocks!

Time and time again the american people are getting to see the face of hypocrisy in the presence of George W. Bush. What a legacy this man will have…..Hypocritical George…..or Bush: The President that Stole His Own Election. What a legacy!

She looked quite sad in the picture on the earlier thread. I feel for her. Maybe she’ll put impeachment back on the table. GWB is clearly incompetent.

  61. IraqVet Says:

#36, I agree with the idea, but the approach must be more systematic than that…

The bill must be submitted, because the troops DO need the funds. The bill that was introduced by the DEMS was not an unreasonable bill, but they cannot give up on the soldiers.

That’s why is it ESSENTIAL that they send a bill that has the exact same (or stronger) conditions, so that this IDIOT will continue to defund HIS war!

I know it is not the best SCENARIO, but until America wakes up and puts competent leadership in the Whitehouse (OBAMA, EDWARDS, GORE), we are stuck with THIS JACK*SS…

what complete and utter bull shit. talking about sacrifices….why aren’t Liberals willing to sacrifice some of their privacy to fight the war against terrorism? they talk about Americans having to make a sacrifice, our government has already asked us to make this sacrifice by giving up some of our privacy……why won’t you accept this challenge? or do you only want to “sacrifice” what you think is a sacrifice?

furthermore, American taxes during WWII didn’t go up 80%, what ridiculous, stupid, pathetic lie is this.

voters will remember how Democratic politicians played politics with our troops and their funding. This is the begining of the end for Democratic control of anything.

and don’t get your panties all twisted since Democrats won ONE Congressional election in the past 12 years. It means nothing. American voters are smart and just like they got tired of Republicans abusing power, they will get tired of Democrats abusing power and playing politics with our troops.

Either fund the troops or defund the troops, but stop playing politics. How many Democrats will grow some balls and stand up to their principle and defund the war? or are they more interested in staying power and playing political games?

  69. El Tonno Says:

Sharon and veritas, did Pelosi seem extremely angry or am I projecting.

She looked like she was having trouble controlling herself so she wouldn’t explode. And it doesn’t seem like the Congress is ready to roll over for Bushwad, surprisingly.

  82. Marie Says:

The Dems ARE using the power of the purse - they will not de-dund the troops — they will demand ACCOUNTABILITY from the spoiled brat who is king of America, and from the leaders in Iraq.
Condo Rice said in January, they would need two to three months and they would know if the “surge” worked. It’s time. It hasn’t.

Abide by the timelines; begin an orderly and planned withdrawal, and the money is already in the pipe to fund that. The additional funds will assure that all the troops will have all they need until they can finally and safely leave Iraq.

Mind you, after our enlisted men pull out, there will still be 100,000 mercenaries (blackwater and others) who will remain.
So actually our 160,000 of today is really 260,000. And we are still not seeing progress!

When it comes to his oil money, the president’s blood lust has no equal.

  83. veritas Says:

I say “let the games begin”; after all Bush and his cadre of criminals has been playing politics from Day one. Roll up your sleeves Congress and get into the ring with him. It’s what he knows best. Play those political charades, just like he does. This congress will not disappoint - wait and see.

Otherwise, I was extremely proud of her allusion to the mandate of the american peopl as well as her willingness to stand up to this bully and negotiate “on their terms” - after all - the power of the purse controls everything, doesn’t it? He can bully all he wants but after 2.2 Trillion dollars into this hole called Iraq, he’s hardly in a position to bully anyone….not to mention the money which is still AWOL in Iraq somewhere. He should be on his foolish knees begging for “his allowance” if you ask me.

Congress should not be dictating policy which is what they were trying to do with this bill; that and increase the deficient for a bunch of truly stupid pork barrel projects.

Very few of the posters here seem to pay attention to the facts!

And let’s not even talk about how we effed up our relationship with Venezuela….

No, gas prices are rising because of the consequences of Bush’s actions, not anything to do with anything that’s going on in Iraq except at the most superficial of levels.

Count Richard Perle of PNAC fame in on that excoriation as well.

    2) Keep posting to all of the replies and hijack the thread as best as possible. Remember, it’s all about you and your crusade to take on the evil liberals. You’ll get the attention mommy and daddy never gave you.

    3) Get away from the main topic. These sites say the truth about our beloved George which makes him look bad to the average person.

    4) Pretend that being a selfish, racist, conservative snob is actually a righteous individual fighting for a great cause. We like tax cuts because they’re morally right, not because they put money in our pocket.

Secondly, where do you get this crazy idea that oil will skyrocket if we pull out of Iraq. Prior to the war Iraq was not exporting that much oil. Your assumption is just pure conservative nutso fantasy.

You can call it what you like, but we need to get OUT of Iraq NOW!! I was never in favor of going there in the first place so I’m certainly not in favor of staying there now that we’ve created horrible damage to the country’s infrastructure, spent a half trillion US taxpayer dollars, squandered our international reputation, and seen 3,000 US soldiers die and about 10 times that wounded.

You moron, need to understand that you have to have an enemy to be surrendering. Who is the enemy in this civil war created by Dubya?

You also need to understand that the Congress does not work for Dubya the drunken AWOL coward…that stupid stooge works for us, the people and we don’t want his fucking war.

    Go enlist, asshole.

    Clipped from the Daily Kos:

    May 1, 2007

    President George W. Bush
    The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
    Washington, DC 20500

    Dear Mr. President,

Today, in your veto message regarding the bipartisan legislation just passed on Operation Iraqi Freedom, you asserted that you so decided because you listen to your commanders on the ground.

Respectfully, as your former commander on the ground, your administration did not listen to our best advice. In fact, a number of my fellow Generals were forced out of their jobs, because they did not tell you what you wanted to hear — most notably General Eric Shinseki, whose foresight regarding troop levels was advice you rejected, at our troops’ peril.

    […]

As someone who served this nation for decades, I have the utmost respect for the office you hold. However, as a man of conscience, I could not sit idly by as you told the American people today that your veto was based on the recommendations of military men. Your administration ignored the advice of our military’s finest minds before, and I see no evidence that you are listening to them now.

I urge you to reconsider your position, and work with Congress to pass a bill that achieves the goals laid out above.

    Respectfully,

Major General Paul D. Eaton, USA, Retired

AWESOME, except for the excessive use of the word “respectfully”. I’d have to cut my tongue out if I EVER used that word in context with Der Shrubinator.

The Generals were all in favor of a timetable, but DUMBYA’s head is so full of shiite (pun intended), he’s unable to think and act for the benefit of his own country.

    TRAITOR.

    SCORECARD
    So far, Shrub has ignored:

    Warnings of 9/11

    Katrina foreign aid

    Recomendations from the 9/11 Commission/Report

Recomendations from top Commanders in Iraq

    Bipartison attempts at reconciliation

The will of the American people

The will of the Iraqi people

    Advice from past/present Military Advisors

    …and so on.

Mr. Dumba$$ President, youR record of blind ignorance is STAGGERING. It just goes to illustrate what complete idiots the majority of voters are, 2 times over no less.

  167. JPark Says:

#158 You morons. It’s been over 1050 days since there has been a terrorist attack on US soil. Bush has done a great job of taking the battle to the Islamic terrorists instead of the passive approach that Bill Clinton took that allowed the terrorists to attack us.

    says crapdog.

Yeah, and it would have been 1050 days if the Dems were in office. The difference would be that the Dems wouldn’t have created 10s of thousands of new extremists and we wouldn’t have to worry about anybody “following us home”.

  169. Kate Henry Says:

You gotta love the AP and how they can spin things. This one was a real head spinner. ““President Bush vetoed legislation to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq”. The legislation was not to pull troops out of Iraq, the legislation was to fund the “war” (occupation) in Iraq. That is a headline I would have assumed to come from Faux Noise, not from the AP. But, you know, it’s that damn liberal media that causes all our problems.

Allo mates, does anyone know where I can watch video of the presidents speech? Tried MSNBC.com but I’m not a fan of commercials and choppy feeds. Is this sh*t on YouTube yet?
