According to ABC News, reports that al-Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri has been killed are “unconfirmed and part of a misinformation campaign.” ABC has not posted its full story yet, and details are unclear, but it’s worth reviewing the last time the media reported major news about al-Masri.
On February 15, CNN reported al-Masri had been injured in a clash with Iraqi forces:
The leader of al Qaeda in Iraq has been wounded and his top aide killed in a clash with police, an Iraqi Interior Ministry spokesman told CNN Thursday.
Brig. Gen. Abdul Karim Khalaf said Iraqi police got into a firefight with insurgents on the road between Falluja, west of Baghdad, and Samarra, north of Baghdad, and wounded Abu Ayyub al-Masri.
Every major media outlet picked up on the news. The next day, however, the U.S. military announced that the report was false. No such event occurred.
Nevertheless, the false report came at an opportune time for the President Bush and his congressional allies.
– February 15 was the day before the House of Representatives voted on its resolution opposing Bush’s Iraq escalation strategy, marking the first time in four years that Congress voted decisively against Bush’s Iraq policy.
– Also that week, the Bush administration was aggressively attempting to contain the fall-out from its botched intelligence briefing in Baghdad, which attempted to link the deadly explosives in Iraq to senior Iranian officials. After repeatedly defending the accuracy of the intelligence, the Bush administration chose February 15 to quietly acknowledge that their intelligence was wrong.
Today’s news converage of Masri’s death may shift attention away from stories that are damaging to Bush: the four year anniversary of “Mission Accomplished,” and the official signing of Congress’s Iraq timeline legislation.
UPDATE: A screen shot of ABC’s breaking news:

UPDATE II: Evan Kohlmann writes at the Counterterrorism blog:
Al-Qaida’s “Islamic State of Iraq” has now issued a formal statement denying the death of Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, who they describe as the Islamic State’s “Minister of War.” Elsewhere, Al-Qaida supporters have suggested that the initial report of his demise was part of a desperate scheme concocted by the Iraq government aimed at forcing al-Muhajir to surface and identify himself.

Surprise! Surprise!

May 1st, 2007 at 11:22 amHe is a created terrorist anyways, so he can be declared dead at any time. Bush probably has some body on ice to parade out when needed.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:25 amMy local news stations were saying that it was a lie. I think I even heard her say “If there isn’t a body, I’m not believing it.”

The question is, part of a “misinformation campaign” lauched by WHO? Perhaps the US Government? Hmmm?????
May 1st, 2007 at 11:26 amI didn’t completely believe the story when I heard it this morning on CNN. It sounded like another one of Bush’s amazing coincidences. And yet the MSM fell for it again.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:26 amIt hardly matters, even if it was true.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:30 amI’m guessing there is a line of successors stretching from Tora Bora to Timbuktu…
Of course it was false propaganda…..promulgated by the White House, by any chance to offset the incredible damage Tenet is doing to this President and the GOP???? People are getting smarter; the GOP is coming undone and there will never be another Republican elected to ANY office in this country for a very long time.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:32 amMISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Oh wait…..
May 1st, 2007 at 11:33 amThis government of smoke & mirrors CANNOT be trusted ever again! No one is listening to this Shrub-in-Chief, his idiot AG, his wooden-headed moron Secy of State, or his Darkside Veep. No one has one shred of respect for any of them at this point. They are irrelevant to the political landscape of this country except to further besmerch their GOP constituency and to tank their Rethug Candidate in 08. Keep it up BushCo….you’re doing a “heckofa job” in recruiting more Democrats and tanking your own candidates than any PR campaign could ever have done.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:34 amPoor Patrick1trickpony, your little lie was exposed before it had a chance to fly in the face of reason.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:35 ampffft! Like the thinking public didn’t know this was bullshit!
May 1st, 2007 at 11:35 am“We Killed Al Masri.”
Just the latest talking point to divert attention from the Mission Accomplished anniversary?
Four years after President Bush declared “Mission Accomplished,” here’s a look back at four years of Republican talking points to sell the war and demonize Democrats:

May 1st, 2007 at 11:37 amrumors of his demise have been greatly exaggerated…
May 1st, 2007 at 11:37 amThe damage to this white house, this administration, and each of the individuals therein is incontrovertible. Bringing these criminals to the justice they deserve (particularly on this day: Law Day) may take time and effort but, if this country of ours is EVER to recover the losses of having a neonazi regime in charge, it MUST do the “next right thing” which is to bring these folks to justice.
As far as the terminal damage done to the enabling GOP, the sycophantic propagandized press, and EVERY major Department in this administration, it’s irretrievable at this point.
We need to “clean house” right now. The people must speak and have their voices heard! We have never been a country of citizens who were afraid to speak up. After all, this administration serves “at the pleasure of the people” whose collective voice controls this democracy. We can no longer afford to sit back and allow this fascist regime to gain more ground. We can no longer sit back in complacency and watch this country go down the tubes. We can no longer sit back and deny that this administration IS NOT on the side of the american people.
We can no longer sit back!
May 1st, 2007 at 11:38 amSomeone needs to find out exactly where this disinformation came from. Then we need to find out if they were ever given a Carl Rove “How can WE help Republicans” slide show.

May 1st, 2007 at 11:42 amPeople were getting wise to the old “Raise the Terror Alert Level” ploy, so they adopted the “Most Wanted Terrorist Killed” tactic….
when people get wise to this one, they’ll try the “Look over there!” ploy…. and the MSM will fall for that one as well
May 1st, 2007 at 11:42 am“WHERE MEN BUILD ON FALSE GROUNDS, THE MORE THEY BUILD THE GREATER IS THE RUIN.” Thomas Paine
Everything this administration has it’s fingerprints on will surely tank according to the prognostication of Thomas Paine above. It has to do with karma and the laws of spirituality.
Bush stole both elections so everything this man has touched over the past 6 years has been the work of the devil (pure evil). Once he made the bargain with the darkside to participate in vote rigging to win the election (illegally), he sealed his fate and, unfortunately, the fate of this country.
Unless/until the people rout out this evil at the top, this country has no chance of success. Evidence of this spiritual law is abounding….and with each passing day, we realize just how insidious this man’s contract with evil actually is. Another day/another scandal or level of corruption in that “foundation” is outed.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:44 amThe people also need to shut down the mainstream media who have the blood of our fallen soldiers on their hands as well for promoting this war of choice, this illegal invasion of a foreign nation.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:45 amWhen the administration comes close to fire : they pull out the “Major Terrorist Leader Caught” card , or 9/11 etc
May 1st, 2007 at 11:45 amAll of the unwinding of this administration has got to be interesting from the inside looking out…..I for one would pay to be a mouse in a corner watching bull shit bush and his happy camp of war-monger’s implode..At some point they have to admit to each other the one world order and total distruction of america and the world is not working…What will be next? Osama been forgotten paraded out yet again.?.. Hey rovie, got any more hidden old tapes to show?…Blessings
May 1st, 2007 at 11:47 am#21 The power of the purse is what Congress has as it’s “tool” to rein in this ridiculous war. If they fail the people on this, they will be lumped with this corrupt administration and the people will never forgive them. After all, that’s what the Midterm was all about - electing people with courage to bring this neonazi regime under control - and to unveil the incredible mountain of corruption therein. Bush would like people to believe that it’s about ridding washington of corruption; quite the contrary. It’s about ridding this country of the corruption in the white house.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:48 am#27 Shortlived, wasn’t it? That’s because the people KNOW what devious tricks they stoop to and it’s not working any more. TS on the WH!

It’s time to rout out the whores surrounding us and put an end to their continued whoring.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:50 amHi Sharon! Some also say that the tapes we’ve been fed of UBL were “dupes”, too??
May 1st, 2007 at 11:50 ambut we all knew it was lies ………. means nothing anyway , roll on next leader of al queda in Iraq
May 1st, 2007 at 11:53 amAlso, the people need to learn more about Bush’s intimate connections to UBL….his brother Mahfouz who was Bush’s first business partner and longtime friend. It’s purported that this is why Bush did not want anything outed pre-911 because it would draw scrutiny to his intimate connections with the Bin Laden family which would not look too pretty.
Also, Shafig Bin Laden is bosom buddies with Pappy Bush and the Carlyle Group who happened to be in DC on 911….were they the ones who just happened to be flown secretly out when airspace was ostensibly closed? Just wondering…..seems like there are plenty of very close familial connections going on here….hmmmmm….smelling anything resembling sulfur??
I’d also like to know more about Marvin Bush, Bush’s cousin, who just happened to be Head of Security at the WTC on 911. Yeparoo…..it’s all beginning to sound very suspicious.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:54 amFalse Information, uh? Could it be that our present repukian mafia are lieing to us for political reasons? Don’t say it’s true, come on all you repukes, all together, now here’s what you do…

1. Iraq- pull out, increase, stabalize?
2. Iran- Attack, embrace, leave alone?
3. Economy- What to boost it?
This is just a poll, no agenda here. I will collect your answers and use them for a study. I posted this on a couple other sights as well. Thanks in advance if you choose to help. Also, please try and give actual solutions, rather than attacking the current situation. If you can’t have a solution, or at least an ideal, then just don’t play. Thanks in advance.

May 1st, 2007 at 12:01 pmHey Sharon - It goes both ways! Thank you for your graciousness, compassion, and nose to the grindstone as well. We, truth seekers, must continue on this path to freedom and truth. After all, if we sit back in compacency, we’ve got no one to blame but ourselves for being enablers….and there are plenty of those to go around Washington these days.
I love your posts. They are always very insightful and filled with accurate information as well as honest personal assessments. Truth Seekers all need to remain united and attempt to drive out this force of evil which is implanted in the highest offices in this country.
As we all know, Truth is ALL that truly exists…..anything else is pure fiction and has no basis in reality. And, as history reveals, Truth always wins the battle over Deceit because Deceit is simply fiction.

May 1st, 2007 at 12:20 pmNot just no, but fu*k no.
May 1st, 2007 at 12:23 pmchimpeach: terrorists and their enablers.
May 1st, 2007 at 12:26 pmI think this is huge — not that the administration was cooking up false press stories (that’s SO unsurprising) — but that a mainstream media outlet is calling out the administration on it. Two years ago, I bet, they would have said nothing in hopes that the story would quietly disappear.
May 1st, 2007 at 12:28 pmSo, TP puts up a headline to this thread that reads:
“ABC: Reports Of Masri’s Death False”
and then puts up a screenshot that shows that ABCNews did not say the reports were “false” at all, but rather “unconfirmed.”
You might want to correct your inaccurate headline, TP.
As for the report itself, obviously we all hope that it is true and that Masri is indeed dead. But it needs to be confirmed. And even if it turns out to be true, would it make that big a difference in Iraq? Unlikely.
May 1st, 2007 at 12:30 pmI find it hard to believe MAF54 could be jake. Using the screen name MAF54 is a slap in the face to the republican party.
MAF54 was Mark Foley’s screen when he was hitting on pages.
May 1st, 2007 at 12:32 pmMore fabricated fluff from the propaganda machine, just to have a little Mission Accomplished! hurrah. Bite me Bush.
May 1st, 2007 at 12:32 pmExley an even better headline is on ABC News front page right now.
“Al Qaeda Leader in Iraq - Would it Matter if he Were Dead?”
The answer is no. We are making terrorists way faster than we kill them. It didn’t matter if we killed Zarqawi and it doesn’t matter if we kill Masri. The hydra will just grow another head.
May 1st, 2007 at 12:37 pmHey RUCerious!

Reid: Bush Must Halt Slaying of Terrorist Leaders
by Scott Ott
(2007-05-01) — As unconfirmed news broke that the chief of al-Qaeda in Iraq may have been killed in a battle with a rival terror group, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called on President George Bush to step in and halt the slaying of terror leaders.
“It’s a known fact that every time a terror leader is killed, another rises to take his place,†said Sen. Reid. “Therefore, the only way to stop the spawning of new terror leaders is to halt the slaying of the current ones.â€
The Nevada Democrat said Mr. Bush should petition the United Nations to send in an unarmed peacekeeping force to protect the known terror leaders from accidental or intentional execution by Iraqi and U.S. forces, as well as by their own colleagues in the terror industry.
“If these guys keep getting knocked off,†Sen. Reid said, “how will we ever build relationships that lead to negotiations and peace treaties? The longer a terror leader stays at the helm, the more we can get to know him. When Democrats talk about bringing stability to the region, this is what we mean.â€
May 1st, 2007 at 12:47 pm‘Tribesmen in the western Anbar province have been fighting al-Qaida for weeks and claim to have killed dozens of them.’
I know it doesn’t fit your template, so you’ll just shrug it off as a lie. But if it is true, wouldn’t you rather have Sunni’s battling al-Qaida in Iraq than having your wife and kids do it here.
May 1st, 2007 at 12:50 pmGood Morning RUCerious, I am so pleased to read your post….Welcome back Dear Friend..Happy Beltane…Blessings
May 1st, 2007 at 12:52 pmcuttin’ and pastin’ from the free republic. is this one on there?:
from May 2, 2003, the NYTimes:
“The Bush administration is planning to withdraw most United States combat forces from Iraq over the next several months and wants to shrink the American military presence to less than two divisions by the fall, senior allied officials said today. . . .”

If the reports presented the death of this man as a fact when it isn’t, then the reports are false. Duh.
Funny you try so hard to hard to keep ThinkProgress “accurate”, but give the Bush administration a free pass with all their gross inaccuracies, misleading statements, half-truths, and out-right lies.
But we already knew where your loyalties lie -pun intended.
May 1st, 2007 at 1:00 pmThis is a known pattern Bush always uses when his is in trouble. iIvoking the fear card with terrorist captures, hunts and reports during his very troubled times.. All trying to stoke the fear and deflect from his troubles. Looks like the work for Karl Rove ,,as usual.
May 1st, 2007 at 1:06 pmHey Sharon and Raven! Right back to you and kudos for remaining united in our search to bring truth to the light. Yes, we, lightworkers, are more potent than the workers of darkness - after all, “darkness is just the absence of light” and as long as we (the light) keep bringing our light to the darkness and evil, we will prevail. In reality, Truth is all that ever exists at any given moment in time. The rest is spin and lies.
I so appreciate all of you who contribute to the truth on these threads. We’ve also done a great job in outing our local trolls as they appear and will continue to give them the royal smack-down. In actuality, they mirror the deceit of this administration and invigorate Truth Seekers immeasurably as they bring energy to our movement with each of their lying, inane comments.
Thanks, truth seekers….We SHALL prevail!
May 1st, 2007 at 1:07 pmPut on your tin foil hats. That conspiracy nuts are out in force. I might have to save this thread like I did about Sen. Johnson. Remember Bush had him poisoned. ROTFL

Let’s boycott the mainstream media now! This story is just another example of Bush’s propaganda machine….time to rid ourselves of these “lying enablers”.
May 1st, 2007 at 1:08 pmThe Democrat Presidential Primary Debate was pretty boring, so boring I don’t think any of the left-wing blogs even bothered to write about it with all the things they still have to say about Alberto Gonzales. Maybe the debate could be more interesting with some better questions, so here’s what I cam up with:
FRANK QUESTIONS FOR A DEMOCRAT PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY DEBATE
“With President Bush out of office in 2009, do you expect the Democrats to lose focus by not having an enemy to rally against?”
“Would someone like to cede time so we can all point and laugh at Kucinich?”
“John Edwards, how badly did your mother want a girl?”
“When the terrorists attack again, under what object of furniture do you plan to hide?”
“Will one of you have the courage to stand up to the Netroots and tell them it’s unhealthy to eat their own feces?”
“Senator Hillary Clinton, on the campaign trail, people are afraid to allow you to kiss their babies out of fear you may eat them. Is this a valid fear?”
“What do you think is more important: To lose the war quickly or decisively?”
“Do you think Americans are deluded enough to think the country would be safe in the hands of you dinguses? If not, what steps do you plan to take in this campaign to make the American people forget about important issues?”
“Do any of you have penises?”
May 1st, 2007 at 1:09 pm#68 ALL pathological liars have this very pattern of behavior. Bush is the poster child for psychopathology. It’s very sad that he has wielded so much power - just like the mentally ill obtaining guns, this nut has destroyed this country.

Your confusion is understandable, since you think FoxNews is an actual news outlet…
May 1st, 2007 at 1:11 pmHappy Guy: I love your moniker but it’s so far from truth that’s it’s comical. You are a cynic at best; a bushwipe at worst. That’s what all the neonazis say when conspiracy theories are being supported by scientific data, eyewitness reports and prima facie evidence!! Nice try, but it won’t work here. Too many intelligent individuals at TP.
May 1st, 2007 at 1:11 pmWasn’t it your jackass-of the-moment, Inhof, who said that the mainstream media conspired and thought up the idea of WMD’s??
May 1st, 2007 at 1:12 pmhahahaha….talk about tin foil hats! This guy needs a “tin foil shroud”!
Gregor,
Nice try, but the fact is that TP was inaccurate. They claimed that ABC News was stating that the report was “false.” As we see, ABC News never said any such thing. ABC News never used the word “false.” Thus, TP was inaccurate — whether deliberately or not, I cannot say.
Moreover, “unconfirmed” is not synonymous with “false.” To state that a report is “false,” it must be demonstrably so.

No help here? do you guys actually talk about how to fix things, or just complain about the way things are?
May 1st, 2007 at 1:21 pmSo, Juan,
Death for the leader of a terrorist group that sets off car bombs in the middle of Iraqi marketplaces and mosques or universities, deliberately targeting and killing innocent Iraqi men, women, and children is not justice?
Moreover, you ignore that killing the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq might actually help prevent further deliberate attacks against civilains by that group.
So, to sum up Juan’s position: Iraqi militants killing U.S. soldiers is justified and an example of “justice.”
Killing the leader of a terrorist organization that deliberately targets and slaughters innocent Iraqi men, women, and children is not justified.
That’s quite a moral position you have laid out for yourself, Juan.

May 1st, 2007 at 1:41 pmJuan,
You always get confused on that point…It was YOU who supported the murderous Sandinistas in Nicaragua and the terrorists in El Salvador.
I supported the freedom fighters seeking to liberate their nation from the Sandinista tyranny in Nicaragua and the duly-elected Duarte government in El Salvador who saved his nation from the rebels seeking to establish a dictatorship in that country.
In any case, Juan, nice attempt at diversion from the fact that you call the killing of U.S. military personnel in Iraq “justified,” yet decry any efforts to kill the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, which has killed the overwhelming majority of Iraqi civilians who have died over the last 4 years.

May 1st, 2007 at 1:46 pm(a) A focus on renewable energy production, sustainable agriculture, and a general acknowledgement that the planet is a finite resource, and that there is nowhere else to go should natural global systems break down.
(b)Re-educate the American citizenry to enable self-reliant lifestyles.
Refocus education to embrace physical creative skills.
(c)De-emphasize instant wealth and glory thru deal-making and professional sports and entertainment.
How did I know that of all people you would be the first to go after someone Spudge? I really just wanted some help, honestly. Do you have any views on the subjects, or would you rather just wait and call someone names for their views?
May 1st, 2007 at 1:48 pmthank you raven
May 1st, 2007 at 1:49 pmCraig Mack = Idiot Troll of the Day! First of all, it’s not ours to fix! The Bush Cabal of liars & crooks broke it so the onus of responsibility (and law of karma) is that they’ve “bought it”. Our purpose here on these threads is to keep the flow of “truthful and legitimate information” (not spin and not overt propaganda) open. If you think you can fix George W. Bush and his band of criminals, have at it, dude! You’ve got more balls than intelligence!
May 1st, 2007 at 1:54 pmRaven - I love your #1 regarding democracy in Iraq. What a joke! We don’t have democracy here any longer and we’re attempting to install a democracy there in the middle of a civil war…hahahahah! What kind of idiots are we anyway? Hypocritical idiots at best. What can you expect when you have a group of buffoons and clowns in the highest offices of the country?
May 1st, 2007 at 1:55 pmInstalling a democracy in Iraq was the LAST thing we’d originally intended - it was the OIL WELLS from the outset and still is. If Iraq had no natural resources, we’d never even give them a second look, would we? Our hypocrisy and level of disease is so incredibly transparent that it’s very sad.
It was about the OIL from the outset (of course, as Tenet admitted yesterday he and Bush were concerned about how to “PR the war” with the american people and congress - wow! Was that an official outing of the Presnut and Tenet himself or what??)…..when the WMD lie fell apart in their faces, then it became the installation of a democracy.
This is precisely the mistake of Vietnam - but now 2.2 trillion dollars and some 3,500+ lives later and we’re still playing games with this would-be Emperor in the white house. Our forefathers are turning over in their graves to see how “dummed down” we’ve become. Pathetic.
May 1st, 2007 at 1:58 pmVeritas- A simple “I don’t know”, or even a “can’t be solved” would have sufficed. But, thanks for your enlightening rhetoric and insightful take on the subject. I guess you didn’t notice the “YOU ARE KING FOR A YEAR” fictional disclaimer. Oh well.
P.S. I especially like the way you called me a idiot troll…..brilliant redirect! you are far to clever for me!
May 1st, 2007 at 2:02 pmDoesn’t matter if the al-Qaeda leader being killed is “unconfirmed” - it’s such a good story for the press to cover instead of covering the anniversary of Mission Accomplished. Anything to keep images of Bush on that flight deck from American TV.
May 1st, 2007 at 2:03 pmTell you what, Ex. Why dont you go to Nicaragua and find out who is wrong and who is correct? Furthermore, why dont you go to Iraq so can you actually kill and see realized your death wishes with your own eyes?
May 1st, 2007 at 2:03 pmThanks spudger and all, feeling spry this mornin.
May 1st, 2007 at 2:08 pmI paid a lot more attention to Murtha calling for Cheney’s impeachment. Cheney forged the Niger docs. Spread it around.
Enjoy.
May 1st, 2007 at 2:08 pmBecause I would the the political equivalent of an enforcer in hockey.
You ask some questions to which you don’t get any answers to in one hour and twenty six minutes
and then YOU start in with the exact king of wording and phrasing that the trolls do.
Maybe the people here are tired of repeating the same thing over and over and over. If you know who I am then you know what the fu*k my answers are to your fu*king questions.
So, here are the answers and I know I speak for just about every regular here.
1. Iraq- pull out, increase, stabalize?
Admit it was a mistake, apologize to the world community, gather support from those we apologize too, then rebuild their country with international help.
2. Iran- Attack, embrace, leave alone?
Leave it the fu*k alone.
3. Economy- What to boost it?
Stop giving all of our money to Big Pharma, Big Oil, Big Business and Big Auto. Stop giving no bid, cost plus contracts to Haliburton and Kellog Brown and Root.
Now, did I really need to repeat the same thing that has been here ad nausiem? No I didn’t.
Your research could have included reading some friggin’ posts.
May 1st, 2007 at 2:09 pmVeritas #69 Righteous post!!!
May 1st, 2007 at 2:09 pmGood to hear!
May 1st, 2007 at 2:13 pmI have been reading these posts for about 2 months now, Spudge. Thanks for your answers. It just makes it easier to actually ask a direct question, rather than imbelish. Or, maybe not, in some cases….
May 1st, 2007 at 2:13 pmWho cares if the number 1 number 2 alkaeda in Iraq guy or whatever gets captured in Iraq
1. It has no impact on the insurgency
2. What is AlQuaeda in Iraq anyway? I think it is time to start asking that question. Is this Osama’ s right hand man? If not why do we even give a F***? Let’s ask the question how is AlQuaeda in Iraq tied to Osama’s AlQueada? It is NOT the same thing yet we don’t even stop to think about it.
THAT’s a big part of the misinformation campaign. Throwing up the ALQ word when we want to scare everyone.
May 1st, 2007 at 2:14 pmWhen hearing this report this morning, my first thought was “how convenient for Bush that this should happen on his Mission Accomplished Day.”
May 1st, 2007 at 2:21 pmIf you have been reading these posts for two months then you must have a good idea of how we feel and think. If not, you aren’t paying attention, which is bad if you are trying to research anything.
And I have yet to call you any names. I said you are acting like a troll. Have you researched what an Internet troll is and how they try and disrupt political conversations? That would be a great side bar for your research. “How the Internet troll tries to stop political dissent” Hell, you could do your whole paper on that.
Now, did I call you a troll?
May 1st, 2007 at 2:30 pm#90. veritas…
May 1st, 2007 at 2:31 pmI know perfectly well oil is the true reason for the invasion of Iraq.
In my hypothetical solution, it was enough of an impossibility to believe the Bushcorporate regime could simply admit they had failed.
If they could at least do that, the rest of the world would wait until they had at least left the room before laughing out loud at their reasons for invading and occupying.
Exley
Killing him is just - he is, as a militia leader, a military target in a war. He is, in essence, no civilian.
Capturing him is better, he has valuable information and could serve as a valuable tool for neutralising his following.
But, going back to the OT:
Reporting his death if he is still alive makes him stronger, and weakens your press’ trustwothiness.
May 1st, 2007 at 2:36 pmThis story has disappeared from CNN, and relegated to a small video on the BBC, has it been scrubbed elsewhere also?
May 1st, 2007 at 2:43 pm(I am boycotting every other MSM outlet)
Could ABC get the print size a little smaller, please.
May 1st, 2007 at 2:55 pmCraig Mack this is not a threat about YOUR POLL, it is about how the government makes up false stories.
Take your Poll somewhere else
May 1st, 2007 at 3:20 pmI think we should eliminate the phrase “mainstream media†from our lexicon. We should ask ourselves; does the so-called “mainstream media†represent the mainstream of American opinion? In regards to the Iraq war, nearly 70% of the American people oppose the war, yet the media reports do not reflect this opinion. In regards to labor issues, such as the minimum wage, or environmental issues, as well as innumerable others, the media reflects the mainstream of the ruling elite, not the mainstream of American opinion. One of the media’s favorite tricks is to manufacture an opinion on a given issue, and then when opinion polls show that the American people have fallen for their propaganda, the media points to this as justification for their own view, claiming that they are aligned with the “mainstream†opinion. Furthermore, by allowing to the media to falsely claim that they are in the mainstream, we marginalize ourselves on countless issues when we are, in fact, squarely part of the mainstream of American opinion.
May 1st, 2007 at 3:20 pmSpudge, I do know how you feel, or at least how you have posted on subjects. I really needed verbatin answers to specifics questions. Thanks again. You actuall have called me a troll on a previous board, just for the record, but no hard feelings.
Buck- Thanks for clearing that up…you’re a shining star.
May 1st, 2007 at 3:46 pmConfirmed!
Need to check your facts and not your BDS possessed minds.
May 1st, 2007 at 3:47 pmConfirmed!
Need to check your facts and not your BDS possessed minds.
Funny though that you would be quoting Al Qaeda for your “misinformation”,
May 1st, 2007 at 3:49 pmWhat board and when? I don’t post at any other board but Think Progress my own blog and my blog for work. I have had other people tell me they were glad to see I was posting at XXX site and it wasn’t me.
May 1st, 2007 at 3:51 pmNo, it was here a week or 2 ago (when I first came on board). It actually may have been that you said I “sounded like a troll” (or something of the like) when I said the Iraq situation wasn’t all black and white. I’m not a frequent blogger, so I don’t know many other sights.
May 1st, 2007 at 3:56 pmWell, let’s take a llok craig mack.
‘Sexual cleansing’ in Iraq.
Think Progress
April 17, 2006
Your first post:
Some people fired off answers, I ignored you.
Then your next post was this.
The highlighted part of your second post is the exact definition of “trolling”
Internet Troll noun
So, I take it back, you aren’t acting like a troll, you are a troll. I didn’t call you one then or earlier today, but I am now.
May 1st, 2007 at 4:07 pmworks for me man. You are, after all, “the enforcer”. I simply ask questions, if that makes me a troll, then hand me a club, I suppose.
May 1st, 2007 at 4:15 pmThe sad thing is, when I ask a question like that, I get 1 or 2 actual responses, and the rest are rants and other messages. Either way though, it makes for interesting reading.
thanks Spudge Boy, for outing the troll.
( I feel so used………………)
May 1st, 2007 at 4:15 pmC’mon Raven, I asked a legit series of questions. Isn’t that acceptable to do in a forum like this?
May 1st, 2007 at 4:19 pmI think we should eliminate the phrase “mainstream media†from our lexicon.
What do we replace it with?
Mercenary media?
Bought and paid for media?
Emasculated media?
I really could use some help on this…
May 1st, 2007 at 4:31 pm#117. craig mack
May 1st, 2007 at 4:34 pmAgreed. Perfectly acceptable in a forum. Is there any such forum you have found where that is the standard operating procedure? (sincere question, I read other news sources, but do not read or post in another sites. I spend enough time here…!)
It was the line from the previous post regarding “throwing something out to see who attacks” that causes me to mistrust.
Your challenge to the thread, to the effect of offering any suggestions to solving the problems versus simply complaining, prompted me to reply.
I was leery of responding when you first posted.
Education, and political discussion in school is vital, and I commend you for attempting to gain insights from sources such as this, and share them with students…. but remember:
“no dark sarcasm in the classroom, teacher leave them kids alone…”
(Pink Floyd)
Asking questions is not the issue it is 1) how you ask them, 2) the fact that you are derailing a thread for your own benifit and 3) asking the questions just to get a rise.
There is a thread everyday that is called Think Fast. That is an open thread where you can talk about whatever you want and take polls.
This thread is about the false report of an al Qaeda leader used to distract American “news” outlets from publishing news about Mission Accomplished Day.
I tried to help you out and you ignore it. So, then be a troll. Don’t hold back. Do it.
May 1st, 2007 at 4:35 pmlook, I came to this site as part of a study in my political science class. I admit that I have “baited” with that comment, and the 2nd on on this thread, and thta was wrong to do. I apologize if I offended you in that sense. The post that Spudge showed from my previous thread was a question with sarcasm involved, nothing more.
May 1st, 2007 at 4:43 pmLike i said, I don’t have an agenda, and SOME of my views aren’t that far off from SOME of the folks here, we just have different ideals about how to fix things, methinks.
Again, Sorry if you feel mislead, i REALLY was on a fact finding mission, and I appreciate your candor on the subject.
What is it you want me to do Spudge? I’m not feigning ignorance here, just unsure what you need from me?
May 1st, 2007 at 4:45 pmHey, no problem, craig, it took me awhile to get sorted out with this whole concept. testing the waters is crucial…………
Without wanting to be to inquisitive, are you a student or facilitator in the political science class?
May 1st, 2007 at 4:50 pmhigh school? college?
sorry, incomplete message.
May 1st, 2007 at 4:52 pmI asked the question for a reason, not to try and get a rise out of you or anyone. If it did “get a rise” out of you, that’s unfortunate. Thanks for the heads-up on the other sight, I will use it for future polls.
Raven- Student in a college level course. This class is through University of Laverne.
May 1st, 2007 at 4:55 pmcraig mack,
I don’t have a problem with you even if you have a completely different outlook on every subject than I do. That is what makes the world go around. If everybody was exactly the same it would suck. We just don’t want threads derailed. I don’t mind answering questions, without them we don’t have conversation.
The trolls are on a mission to stop any communication that we have. You want to do some research, but drop it in the middle of a battle between us and the trolls. The trolls intentionally drop off topic posts when a conversation is just getting going.
So, my suggestion is to post your survey in a dead thread or in the Think Fast thread and then point people to it from a live thread. But, don’t just take people out of the live thread, participate in the live thread.
And also, if you want our opinion, give us yours too.
Cool?
May 1st, 2007 at 4:56 pmSay, craig, you know anyone named Shirley there?
May 1st, 2007 at 5:02 pmRaven- This is an on-line course. I am active duty AF, and Laverne is a good avenue for us to be able to complete our degree programs, as the school has either campuses or offices on every base. Sorry- the short answer is no, I don’t know anyone named Shirley. If she is in any classes with me, I may know her by her group post name, but not sure.
May 1st, 2007 at 5:09 pmSure thing Spudge. I will keep that in mind.
On this subject, I say that i don’t doubt this was a “smoke and mirrors” op, but you never know. If they had intel that the “target” was in the firefight, and the iraqi’s reported him killed, by the time the story could be verified, it would have been leaked to every news outlet over there, and then on to what was reported.
May 1st, 2007 at 5:12 pmsorry man, that was a joke…
May 1st, 2007 at 5:17 pmthere was a TV show back in the 70’s (?) called Laverne and Shirley..
AF… Air Force?
Oh, sorry…didn’t get the TV referance. Yes, the Air Force.
May 1st, 2007 at 5:24 pmI thank you for your service to this country craig mack.
On Topic. I think that another alQaeda leader being killed isn’t really a big deal. Just like when they touted that Zarqawi was killed. We got Masri as a replacement and word has it that he is more deranged than Zarqawi. I am not sure that any of our troops need to deal with someone worse than this latest guy. Do I think he should stay in power? Hell friggin’ no.
But, I think that we went about this Global War on Terror all wrong. I was in the Field Artillery myself in Desert Storm, so I speak from experience. We shouldn’t have went in with regular ground forces. I think lots of teams of Special Force/Navy Seal types. In other words, use the terrorists number one weapon against them. Terror. Strike fear into the hearts of the terrorist by taking out their leaders while they are sleeping. Go in and assassinate Saddam and get the hell out. Go in take out Osama and get out.
If you announce the date you are going to attack and then only drop one bomb, you allow everybody to run and hide for cover.
“Shock and awe” turned into “shock and ahhhhhh, we lost track of them.”
And then we came rumbling in with tanks to knock down a statue.
Oy.
May 1st, 2007 at 5:49 pmJuan, You always get confused on that point…It was YOU who supported the murderous Sandinistas in Nicaragua and the terrorists in El Salvador. Comment by Exley — May 1, 2007 @ 1:46 pm
Murderous? They came to power through an election, and had armed *terrorists* that were destroying them. By the rules of engagement in Iraq, they would be the US, and the terrorists supported by the CIA would be Al Qaeda.
I supported the freedom fighters seeking to liberate their nation from the Sandinista tyranny in Nicaragua and the duly-elected Duarte government in El Salvador who saved his nation from the rebels seeking to establish a dictatorship in that country. Comment by Exley — May 1, 2007 @ 1:46 pm
You’re so ignorant of history. The Sandanistas were elected, and in fact finally taken from power with a free election they held, under a constitution guaranteeing free elections they wrote. Yeah big tyranny!
I always love how you call *your* terrorists freedom fighters! Hypocrite!
In any case, Juan, nice attempt at diversion from the fact that you call the killing of U.S. military personnel in Iraq “justified,†yet decry any efforts to kill the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, which has killed the overwhelming majority of Iraqi civilians who have died over the last 4 years. Comment by Exley — May 1, 2007 @ 1:46 pm
I find it amusing how you believe OTHER PEOPLE’S terrorists should be killed - while YOURS are freedom fighters.
You st*pid f*cking r*t*rded terrorist sympathizer!
May 1st, 2007 at 7:12 pmExley=Terrorist Sympatizer
May 1st, 2007 at 7:13 pmNice try, but the fact is that TP was inaccurate. They claimed that ABC News was stating that the report was “false.â€
Comment by Exley — May 1, 2007 @ 1:12 pm
Nice try, but ThinkProgress didn’t make such claim.
You see, there are only quotes around the second half of the heading. It is clear that in the first half ThinkProgress is paraphrasing.
Moreover, “unconfirmed†is not synonymous with “false.†To state that a report is “false,†it must be demonstrably so.
Duh. I know unconfirmed and false are not synonymous. Are you having reading comprehension problems lately?
What is false is the report that Masri was dead. It doesn’t matter how you spin it, Exley: If you report Masri is dead as a fact when you don’t know or he isn’t, then that report is false. Plain and simple.
Thou dost protest too much, methinks.
Even more interesting that you have nothing to say about this false report being part of a misinformation campaign.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:53 pm
