National Review Online (NRO) features an interview today with author and retired Air Force Lt. Colonel Robert “Buzz” Patterson, who accuses “Democrat politicians, big media, academia, popular culture, and nongovernmental organizations” of forming “a Fifth Column” that is “facilitating defeat against Islamo-fascism.”
Patterson, the author of an upcoming book with the title, “War Crimes: The Left’s Campaign to Destroy Our Military and Lose the War on Terror,” is a right-wing radio host with ties to various conservative organizations.
In the interview and his book, “Buzz” Patterson isn’t afraid to accuse people he disagrees with of treason:
Kathryn Jean Lopez: Your upcoming book begins with a quote from Cicero about how a nation “cannot survive treason from within.” Surely you’re not calling Democrats traitors. Or are you?
“Buzz” Patterson: I am. They certainly are if their behavior during our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is held up to the light of the U.S. Constitution. Article III, Section 3 defines treason against the United States as “adhering to (our) enemies, giving them aid and comfort. Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Dick Durbin, and John Murtha, amongst others, are guilty of exactly that. [...]
It’s not just the Democrats though but many on the Left — its faculties and administrations on college campuses, big media, Hollywood, and left-wing organizations such as the Ford Foundation, Moveon.org, United for Peace and Justice, etc. What is particularly disturbing to me is that these Americans are doing it while their fellow citizens are fighting and dying in combat. The best ally that al Qaeda has these days is the Democrat Party leadership. It’s reprehensible.
Patterson’s comments were approvingly linked by NRO contributor and Townhall columnist W. Thomas Smith Jr. later in the day.
Accusations of treason have become an all-too-common tactic used by conservatives against critics of the Iraq war. Just last week, disgraced former Rep. Tom DeLay accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) of “getting very, very close to treason.”
Previously, this kind of attack was mainly found in the fever swamps of talk radio or the conservative blogosphere, but the National Review is the largest conservative magazine in the country. Its columnists regularly appear on major media outlets like NBC’s Meet The Press. They should have higher standards than aiding and abetting such derogatory attacks on the patriotism of literally millions of Americans.
THAT’s gonna get him at least 60,000 copies sold…

Please, before you demanding high standards from the right, why don’t you lead by example? I know, too much to ask from a left wing site.
i wonder if thinkprogress.org demanded these higher standards when Moveon.org and other sites starting comparing our President to Hitler, and Republicans to the Nazis. I take it left wingers believe this is responsible, eh?

May 1st, 2007 at 5:15 pmThere’s an endless “assault” on people who oppose the policies of this government.

May 1st, 2007 at 5:16 pmWell, if you add up Democratic politicians, big media, academia, popular culture, and nongovernmental organizations, and toss in the people that follow these things, that’s pretty much everybody who matters. I wonder what Buzz’s point is?
May 1st, 2007 at 5:16 pmAlso, that ‘treason’ thing isn’t getting much traction anymore. It’s almost as ripe as calling someone a commie.
The Democrats didn’t expose a CIA agent AND her entire undercover company that was investigating WMDs in Iraq and Iran.
The Repukes did.
This is PROJECTION, a Rovian tactic. Accuse the opposition of the same crimes that your side is committing. It defuses the original accusation.
This is a very powerful tactic and has been used very often by Repukes.

Well so much for the United States being a free country. We better fight for democracy here before we worry about democracy in other countries.
May 1st, 2007 at 5:18 pmBesides using the “Fear” argument, calling their opponents “traitors” is all that the Republican Party has left to offer this country.
God, I hope this party (once the party of Lincoln, now the party of Dobson, Robertson, et al) gets the snot pounded out of them by the electorate in 2008.

May 1st, 2007 at 5:21 pmPatterson is a conspiracy-theory nutball. And as far as treason goes; the only people that can be remotely held accountable for treason in this country are folks in the administration that lied to get us into a war.
May 1st, 2007 at 5:22 pmHis argument against those who would shed light on a felonious government is to attack with words like treasonous. This is facism at its best. The attackers of truth, like DeLay are the real purveyors of treason.
It seems we have come full circle since the days prior to WW II.
Regardless of your opinion on this war, accusing people of treason for critiquing it is shrill in the extreme and morally unjustifiable.
But then, that’s American politics for you.
May 1st, 2007 at 5:23 pmOsama bin Laden demanded that U.S. get its military bases out of Saudi Arabia. Bush did it.
Osama bin Laden wanted the “secular dictator” of Iraq removed from power. Bush accomplished that for him.

But, Buzz thinks that those OPPOSING Bush’s policies are aiding terrorists. Try to make sense out of that!

May 1st, 2007 at 5:26 pmTry this on: We’re opposing the war effort because the war itself is treasonous.
1. Al Qaeda’s never had a better recruiting tool than W’s war. Treason.
2. The war breaks domestic and international law.
3. The war was provoked by Bush using fraudulent, illegal evidence.
4. The war has been used by Bush as an excuse to undermine the Constitution. Treason.
5. The war has drained the U.S. of at least $500 billion, much of which has gone to Bush’s cronies and masters, thus weakening our national defense. Treason.
6. The war has killed thousands of American soldiers and wounded or damaged hundreds of thousands, while it has trashed military preparedness, undermining national defense. Treason.
7. The war has created millions of new enemies of our country to no purpose. Treason.
I could go on for a while, but consider yourself rebutted, which rhymes with “butthead”, which isn’t an accident here.
Little Bush lies to start a war that has resulted in the murder of hundreds of thousands and has actually made terror around the globe WORSE. And this ignorant clod “Buzz” thinks that the “Left” are traitors.

I like that webpage – heres a quote from it
It’s important to note, though, that most discussions on patriotism neglect the most important issue – what it really means to love America.
You see, I love America. I love the liberty that still does exist here. I refuse to live in a socialist dictatorship like Cuba. But what is it that makes America great? Is it its two-trillion dollar government? Is it its role as world Superpower or its self-proclaimed status as spreader of democracy? Absolutely not.
I love liberty.
I love the Bill of Rights.
I love the freedom of speech and strictly limited government.
I love personal privacy and religious freedom.
I love habeas corpus and the jury trial.
These are just a few of the things that make America special; one-of-a-kind in the history of the world. It is liberty that is a direct cause of much of the prosperity this country has had. It is liberty that has driven millions and millions of people around the world to give up everything to come here.
Unfortunately, too many people in this country appear to have very little love for that America. They make is quite clear that they’re willing to abandon these ideals of liberty.
May 1st, 2007 at 5:28 pmThe right-wing macho war machine has helped terrorists and their recruitment efforts beyond Osama bin Laden’s wildest dreams. Way to f*ck America, right-wing traitors.
May 1st, 2007 at 5:28 pmThe neocons and the architects of the disastrous Iraqi occupation are getting increasingly desperate as it becomes more and more obvious what a terrible job they’ve done fighting the “war on terrorism” and how much damage they’ve done to the economy, the military and our ability to influence world events. Since they are completely incapable of admitting mistakes or failure, which are critical steps in correcting course, they can only resort to screeching and finger-pointing at the people who have called them on their b.s.
I predict we’ll hear more and more of the “Democrats/liberals are traitors” screed in the days to come, as they become more and more isolated and more and more desperate.
May 1st, 2007 at 5:28 pmThe thought that it is somehow treasonous to not blindly follow the lead of incompetence and special interest is so utterly ridiculous it defies words.

May 1st, 2007 at 5:36 pmWar is not the answer for terrorism, it is one of the reasons the terror exists. If conservatives really want to fight terror then they should look into different alleys where funding would actually make a great impact. This war has cost over $340 billion to date. According to the Borgen Project, it costs just $19 billion annually to end starvation and malnutrition or just $23 billion annually to reverse the spread of Malaria and AIDS. Wouldn’t aiding in the development of countries and ending poverty be a better plan for attacking extremism?

May 1st, 2007 at 5:39 pmIt would be nice if we could have a dialog about this, rather than the fairly idotic format we have now, which is for such people to be given a platform to say it unchallenged. It’s a perfectly fine topic to bring up — and of course it doesn’t survive scrutiny by any means. If the accusation is going to persist, then let the MSM bring it out and ask those saying it to make a case, and debate it. Right now, they have no case, and I think they would be quickly humiliated if forced to debate it with an intelligent, reasonable person. It’s time we kill the subject in the quickest and most American way possible: with open, intelligent debate, not buried in blogs and book tours.

I guess these youngens forget all the anti-American, anti-military marches of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, orchestrated by the far-left.
How many times has the left wingers attacked the CIA, called them evil, how many left wingers are constantly protesting the School of the Americas?
how many Liberals spat on the faces of our soldiers who returned from vietnam?
I mean how many liberals are calling our current soldiers baby killers…
the left blames america for all the ills in the world, many of you even spell America with three KKKs…
you are only fooling yourself. The left in America has hated American for a long time, today is just a different song, but the message is the same. America is evil, all the evils of the world are due to the USA, the American military is bad and the CIA has done horrific things in Central America and around the world.
do you honestly think that anyone believes the left when they claim that they are so worried that Valarie Plame was supposedly outed? the left in America has tried to out CIA agents since forever.

…to give us an enhanced first-responder force to cope with a disaster;
…to stop the people who are selling nuclear technologies;
…to enlist allies in the global war on terror;
…to stop war profiteering;
Instead it has engaged in a peripheral military adventure, screamed at the top of their lungs that this is a war for our survival, and screw it up so badly they have destroyed our standing in the world.
May 1st, 2007 at 6:10 pmUnfortunately, the accusations of Lt. Col. “Buzz” Patterson are nothing new. As Prof. Geoffrey R. Stone recounts in his extremely relevant book “Perilous Times- Free Speech in Wartime- From the Sedition Act of 1798 to the War on Terrorism”, the right to speak out whenever the United states has gone to war has always been fraught with danger for the citizens of this country. as when Congress passed the Espionage Act of 1917, restricting the rights of citizens and even the press during the patriotic fervor of World War I. Sadly, as evidenced by the rhetoric of Lt. Col. Patterson and some of those who have posted comments here, it appears that when the government and the military and others use the words patriotism and traitor, hysteria and fear seem to overrule reason, logic, and the U.S. Constitution, in particular the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights.

I’m sorry you feel that way. regardless of the current situation I happen to know it happened to some of our returning soldiers from Nam.
I am not advocating the post or stating that Liberals are traitors. I am simply stating that soldiers were spit on after returning from Vietnam. Some of the “Liberals” from that era are now Republicans/Independants/Libertarians anyway so the argument of then and now is irrelevant.
May 1st, 2007 at 7:16 pmThe left doesn’t need to destroy the military, the right has been doing a great job of it! I just heard on NPR this morning that many new Army recruits are high school dropouts, have criminal records, or are as old as 42!
May 1st, 2007 at 7:17 pmWhen celebrities (of a sort) be they authors, radio hosts, TV hosts, or the like speak in terms of such division – of such hatred – in such ad hominem attacks that have absolutely NO BASIS IN FACT, how can the country ever come together on anything? Nothing new. Strike fear, that’s what the wingnuts are good for. Come to think about it, they are the true traitors and they are the ones that have broken the military.

May 1st, 2007 at 7:43 pmGiving AID to our enemies?
“”David Kay, the former chief US weapons inspector”: “There were just not enough boots on the ground, and the military didn’t give it a high enough priority to stop the looting. Tens of thousands of tons of ammunition were being looted, and that is what is fueling the insurgency.â€
Bush wrote NO orders to guard munitions in Iraq. Rumsfeld deployed far too few CEA (captured enemy ammunition) experts, given the KNOWN (and previously locked-down) conventional materiel in Iraq.
“The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) confirmed Kay’s account and in a 9 November 2003 DIA report, noted the vast majority of explosives and ordnance used in anti- coalition improvised explosive devices have come from pilfered Iraqi ammunition stockpiles and prewar established caches.â€
–both quotes, Klingelhoefer Report, 18 MAR 2005 (US Army War College)
Al-Qaqaa’s 380 tons of high-explosives, including 194 tons of HMX (which is used in nuclear bomb explosions), are missing — handed out by Bushco to hostiles. And the considerable number of precision machine tools (used in nuclear bomb manufacture and enrichment activities) previously logged in Iraq are also GONE.
“Giving aid” to our enemies? Bushco has done that IN SPADES.
Patterson is a TRAITOR for helping Bushco cover up its CRIMES against peace, and its intentionally botched invasion, which guarantees death and destruction on a worldwide basis, for decades.
And Patterson KNOWS he’s a traitor — he’s just in it for the cash, screw the troops and the innocent lives Bushco is destroying, for profit.

As for the *professional* wingNUT victim that goes around claiming people are yelling baby killer at him – it’s amazing how it repeatedly happens to the same person, whereas it never gets documented as happening! Top conservatives and Republican leaders have absolutely no reservations about calling Democrats, and by extension roughly 30% of the country, and people against the war (around 70% there) traitors eligible for execution… and Democrats don’t even have the balls to use the “I” word? Good lord, we deserve what we got.
May 1st, 2007 at 9:39 pmFellow Progressives and Liberals: arm yourselves. The Fascist (so-called) Right is not interested in half measures and they will not stop until they have succeeded in destroying as much as possible both overseas and here in the United States. “This is President Clinton’s war, and when he falls flat on his face, that’s his problem.”
-Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN)
“You can support the troops but not the president”
-Representative Tom Delay (R-TX)
“My job as majority leader is be supportive of our troops, try to have input as decisions are made and to look at those decisions after they’re made … not to march in lock step with everything the president decides to do.”
-Senator Trent Lott (R-MS)
“Bombing a sovereign nation for ill-defined reasons with vague objectives undermines the American stature in the world. The international respect and trust for America has diminished every time we casually let the bombs fly.”

Giving the enemies aid and comfort by NOT PLANNING or EXECUTING the MISSION(S), in Iraq and Afghanistan correctly. You have NO Progress to SHOW! NONE! Just Failures.

This is the greatest country to ever have graced the planet. It is a government of, by, and for the People! We defeated you guys, and your failed regime during WWII. But somehow, you and your ilk have come and taken over the government of this beautiful nation and ordered our military to continue the bidding of your failed “New World Order”. Now that you have failed again, you want to blame it on the majority of Americans who oppose you and your insane view of the world. Go crawl back under that rock pal, believe me, you’ll find better company there.
Don’t blame this lose on launching an illegal, illegitimate war – fabricating intelligence to fit a narrow agenda – corruption, incompetence and purposeful sabotaging to perpetuate an endless war to give outlandish sums of money to the Defense Contractors who profit to no end – short sighted planning – or any of the other gaffs by this administrations and the Neo-Conservatives hawks that misstepped us into this conflict, reinvigorating a centuries worth of Arab national due to US/UK/European/Israeli imperialism and hegemony.
No, it’s the fault of the people who point all this problems out instead of those who actually perpetrate them!
Thank God for Tom Delay.

May 2nd, 2007 at 10:43 amIt takes a pretty big man to call half of the country traitors. I wonder if Buzz’s body will be able to cash the checks his lying mouth has made. Seems to me that Buzz, and his new admirer Patrick1, like to throw out some pretty serious accusations without really knowing what the f@ck they’re talking about. Typical Nazi bullshit- lumping all “leftists” into one big homogenous group and then painting all of us with the same f@cking brush. Nice- really intelligent stuff. Real thoughful. A must read.
I like how the book cover has the boogie-men of the left: Michael Moore and Ward Churchill along with Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton. Typical guilt-by-association bullshit. Nicely done, Buzz.
I especially like how when a Democrat makes a pointed attack on one of Bush’s policies or actions these lunatic fringe wingnuts like Buzz and some of the trolls here like to make blanket statements about liberals in general. Nice stereotyping, douchebags.
May 2nd, 2007 at 11:30 amFunny how you pick out parts of the article to your advantage, he didn’t say all the left, I’m on the left, but the fact is you can disagree with the war, but not get up and say its lost, set a timetable, unless private….and this is public therefore politically based, and on top of it all, Reid said to Bush yesterday that he wants an unarmed UN Force to protect Terror leaders to give a chance to be able to sit and talk to them. Does anyone, left or right really believe that you can sit down with someone who will blow up 200 civilians just so he can scare everyone to follow strict islamic law and follow Al Queda? You do realize that us on the left and our liberal ways are the most threatened by them and they don’t want to talk, its conform or die. Bush sucks and he made a huge mistake, but we need solutions now, not ANYTHING but Bush.
Please, can we wake up as the Democratic party and stop following the extreme left, follow our true values, and get the GOP to stop following the extreme right, then get together and beat these scum before its too late? We are American’s first and Rep’s or Dem’s second and right now we are being handed our butts because we can’t agree. I want a Dem in office too, but it won’t matter a lick if we lose in Iraq and the entire region goes to hell. Please, stop fighting over things that don’t matter now, 4 years ago the invasion doesn’t matter…MOSTLY THE ENTIRE CONGRESS voted for it and are now blaming Bush…Blame themselves and give a solution…a real one, not just one that scores points with us…the public. This is the biggest mess and most dire situation that America has ever been in and both parties are wrong.
And we need to stop bashing military commanders. If we knew what to do there, we would be the commanders. If our party knew and should have the right to manage it, they’d be the generals, and/or the President as commander in chief. But they aren’t. I served in Iraq but Iam not a commander. I agree that we should be there, but not by orders and if ordered to leave I will. But I’m not going to preach to you that we should be there….we just need to fix what we started. The entire country started. It was all fine until it got difficult. Then EVERYONE fell apart. There is no America right now. The civil war is within our own borders. Iraq needs to be finished properly and we can’t give up.
Seems Lieberman is the only one that understands the true threat and can work with others on it, looking for solutions. God help us all.

May 2nd, 2007 at 1:43 pmIt ISN’T the liberals who are taking veterans benefits away, making the injured troops pay for their meals, making them pay for their epuipment if it gets damaged.
I’d like all you ‘trolls’ to answer me one question. This government is spending $400B+ on the Defense Budget. Why are the troops not epuiped? Why do their families have to buy them equipment.
“Democracy is not about trust; it is about distrust. It is about accountability, exposure, open debate, critical challenge, and popular input and feedback from the citizenry. It is about responsible government. We have to get our fellow Americans to trust their leaders less and themselves more, trust their own questions and suspicions, and their own desire to know what is going on.”
Michael Parenti
I know I have posted this here before, but repetition confirms and strengthens. Maybe if enough people see that, they will begin to look at the way they look at democracy themselves. TP is a way to do just that.
To all the trolls, I will fight to the death so you can say what you want, but I will not allow you to smear me just because I don’t agree with you.
May 2nd, 2007 at 2:40 pmThumper,
Please, as a Dem myself, and a soldier, I want people on myside to cite the truth, and less emotion. And state intelligent facts. Just to start with I have to ask, do you do know that a Troll is someone who sits on the sidelines and makes comments, generally false and not of their actual opinion, out of bordem usually to start an arguement or to bother individuals, luring them into a fight for not much reason at all? You know this right? Because calling a republican or someone who is for the war etc, aren’t trolls. Maybe you should search the definition of a Troll before you use the word.
You look foolish and then the rest of us get bashed for dumb comments by the left, lumping us all together….that’s not right, but it happens, we need to show we are the intellectual superiors we are, save the day and win with real solutions. Again, I’m on the left and I’m sick of people complaining of the right and just making no real constructive comments and critisizms. God help us if our side has just resorted to name calling and can’t come up with actual intelligent discussion for debate.
And please research the process of equipment procurement before slamming your own country for the lack of equipment and blaming America. Stop blaming ourselves. I’ve travelled around a lot lately, all over the world and people are laughing at us and how we can’t agree on anything, just bicker and fall apart. America is no longer great because we are no longer United….the United States of America. We have different opinions, not that the right is wrong, or the left is wrong. We need to figure out together what is right, explain points and convince each other, making concessions on both sides sometimes.
FACT IS ABOUT EQUIPMENT PROCUREMENT (and this is where you’ll get slammed and look like an America hater for blaming your country without really knowing the truth) People complain of replacing the Humvee because its not protected from IED’s but it wasn’t designed for that, its a fast strike vehicle. If it was full of armour then it would be slow and not serve the purpose they use it for. It takes a minimum of 10 years to develop, rework, test and start to manufacture any product the military uses, 20 years usually. The humvee was an example of that. 24 years. And many pieces of equipment are on the battlefield in testing. Do you want them to put new equipment on everyone and discover it has a fatal error, which will kill thousands of troops? I think its better to let it be run the way it should be. Like a cancer drug, or Vioxx or whatever, rushed to market for their wonders, turning out to kill people in the end. SUV’s flipping over and killing people and being recalled. Lets get this stuff right and stop blaming people. Think of consequences and as much as its good to speak from the heart, its not always the right thing to say. We need to be careful. Things get momentum, truth or not, and it can be damaging. TO OURSELVES.

May 2nd, 2007 at 3:03 pmThe bloodthirstiness and racism of the so-called peace movement is indeed a wondrous thing to behold. Just because they hate Bush, antiwar activists are prepared to abandon Iraq and its people to chaos, ethnic cleansing and genocide—the inevitable consequences of a precipitous American withdrawal. But that’s a small price to pay, apparently, for the perpetuation of a Democratic congressional majority—and anyhow those creepy Third World wretches in Iraq have been murdering one another for 2,000 years. And those who hold such opinions congratulate one another on their enlightened compassion! The next time I hear some progressive bleating about Darfur, I may just toss my lunch.
May 2nd, 2007 at 4:42 pmJust scroll past the featherheads. Saves a whole lotta time, and don’t ever leave a crumb for them, and they vanish…simple. TRY IT.
May 2nd, 2007 at 4:45 pmTo all the trolls, I will fight to the death so you can say what you want, but I will not allow you to smear me just because I don’t agree with you.
I think we can take it for granted that the above is mere rhetoric, and that Thumper will not fight to the death to preserve my right to point out that so-called progressives have in their rage abandoned logic, honesty and common decency.
May 2nd, 2007 at 5:27 pmIn the conservative mind, free speech is synonymous to treason.
May 2nd, 2007 at 11:34 pmThe amount of Ignorance on this comment page is mind-blowing
May 3rd, 2007 at 1:39 amHarry Reid is a traitor. Nancy Pelosie should be jailed under the Logan Act. Heck, Half the democ-rat presidential field doesn’t even think there is a global war on terror. Jack “ABSCAM” Murtha, un-indicted co-conspirator, is also a traitor. —– The Democrat Party: Snatching Defeat for the Jaws of Victory since 1968!
May 3rd, 2007 at 1:45 amTr3man, you are way out there. The fact is that I don’t want anything to do with the warmongering, religious zealots, and scared panseys of the political right. Scientific study after study has demonstrated that they are scared: scared of the unknown and would mostly like to do away with freedom because it causes uncertainty. These are the people who brought us Hitler, Moussolini, Stalin, and now Bush.
I refuse to kow-tow to these peopl;e and, quite frankly, despise EVERYTHING they stand for. There is no compromise in my soul with them because they behave in evil, nasty and inhumane fashions. I spent 40 years trying to meet them halfway but it is impossible, so I’ve now given up. I don’t want to debate them or even talk with them. They have gone entirely too far with their corporate agenda of death and money over people.
Republicans are scum, despicable louses whose ideas must be crushed, burnt and then salted so their warmongering ideas never resurface, because they are destroying everything that reasonable, caring people hold dear.
Over 600,000 Iraqis have been killed since Bush unilaterally invaded Iraq. Women and children murdered by our soldiers, depleted uranium lying around everywhere to poison future generations, and the threat of nuclear warfare being bandied about as if it were a slap on the wrist. My god, folks, can’t you see how crazy these people really are? They are the real traitors, not only to the USA, but to the entire human race.
May 3rd, 2007 at 1:41 pmIt’s a telling commentary on the sad state of so-called progressivism that amid all the Bush-is-a-Nazi hysteria, not one of these characters can spare a bad word to say about the Islamofascist head hackers and suicide bombers who are the real mass murderers of innocent Iraqis. Nothing will ever persuade me that expressions of moral outrage from progressives are anything other than acting—and bad acting at that.
Displaying the condescending racism that has become their trademark, progressives dismiss 25 million Iraqis with the airy comment that they were better off under Saddam Hussein. How can these people live with themselves?
May 3rd, 2007 at 2:32 pmTom G.
There are a few thousand Islamic terrorists, who we stirred up by building bases in the holy land. Although, I think these people are uneducated buffoons just like Republicans, a few CIA agents or SEALS properly placed could have destroyed bin Laden and his leadership corps rather easily. War was unnecessary and I resent my government lying to me the way they did and you are a classic example of the kind of person we should purge from the USA and send to the Middle East, where your right-wing religious fanaticism will be more appreciated.
I strongly suspect that millions of Iraqis do in fact feel that they were better off during Sadam’s reign…after all, they could feed their families and live. With over 600,000 killed since our invasion and millions who’ve become refugees, it’s hard to suggest that we did the “right” thing.
Prior to the invasion, most intelligent people understood that the US would NEVER NEVER NEVER allow a true democracy in Iraq because the country was 60% Shiites, who would strive for a Islamic state closely allied to Iran.
You Republican fascist simply lied vabout your motives and decided to kill, maim and injure as many women and children as you possibly could, just as you try to destroy womens’ freedoms here and elsewhere.
NEVER Never try to lecture progressives on rascism, for you Republicans are the worst—>true bottomfeeders.
May 3rd, 2007 at 3:48 pmBuzz is right, the “progressives” see the military in two ways: As either villains are victims. Glad Buzz is speaking out.

June 29th, 2007 at 6:07 pmSorry Comment by Doc
I’m currently in Iraq and I have asked EVERY Iraqi that question “Do you miss Saddam.” No one has said yes.
Democrats are some of the worse racists I have ever met.
June 29th, 2007 at 6:09 pmThe comments here opened with a rather ignorant remark by someone calling himself “IraqVet”…
“I know the KKK, Nazi Party, and basic evangelical terrorists of the U.S will support his position (Lt Col Patterson’s).”
Any informed person knows that the majority of those groups view President Bush as the leader of ZOG (Zionist Occupational Government) and believes that the liberation of Iraq was done on behalf of the Jews.
If you are going to smear Conservatives it might help to actually help understand what they stand for and dont stand for.
(And when criticizing me, please dont think that I represent Conservatives because I only sympathize with them in the war against Islamist fascism. Thats all.)
Anyways more power to Lt Col Patterson for speaking his mind.
