The medal, as awarded is entirely appropriate. The only difference is the reason for its bestowal: When you consider that it was also given to L. Paul Bremer and to General Tommy Franks, you realize that the justification for it is NOT for accomplishment, but for abject FAILURE!

Tenet will go into history books at some point along with the Bush Regime and be always compared to Nazi Germany. Congratulations educators and schools all over the USA for NOT teaching the history of the USA and the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Congratulations for hiding the evidence of Tom Paine and what he did for all of us. Did you even know that it was Tom Paine who gave a name to our country? The military dictatorship of the United States of American is now in place. Mission Accomplished Herr Chairman Bush!

Read this article that appeared in Monday, April 23rd Guardian(London):
Fascist America, In 10 Easy Steps By Naomi Wolf
"From Hitler to Pinochet and beyond, history shows there are certain steps that any would-be dictator must take to destroy constitutional freedoms. And, George Bush and his administration seem to be taking them all."

COINTELPRO: more on Tenet's book Hotlist
by ezdidit [Subscribe] [Edit Diary]
Tue May 01, 2007 at 02:31:02 PM EDT

Is Tenet's book just some more COINTELPRO (counterintelligence proliferation) to add to the pyre of bullshit that is Bu$hCo's 2007 Iraq War foreign policy?

The CIA: It's a mystery, buried in an enigma, within a paradox. Just ten years ago, The Discovery Channel aired a program on the 50th Anniversary of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Things were different then. The French say, "Plus ça change, plus c'ést la même chose," i.e., The more things change, the more they remain the same.

    * ezdidit's diary :: ::
*

Since his resignation in July 2004, when George Tenet officially left his position as DCI (he was gone in May '04, with vacation, personal & sick days), he has been teaching. With the recent publication of his book, Mr.Tenet aired his views on 60 Minutes. (CBS has it posted now on its website.) In his mea culpa/apologia for the misdeeds in Iraq that continue unabated as a result of what he wants to represent as his compliance and compromise, and Administration spin, Tenet doesn't really shed new light on his suspected collaboration. Oh, he massages a few facts and disputes his positions, but one cannot contradict what one did not do. And his words betray his undeeds.

Nor did he say very much on Sunday night about the outing of Valerie Plame-Wilson. Scott Pelley threw him an underhanded pitch, to which George answered:

"She's one of my officers. That's wrong. Big time wrong, you don't get to do that," Tenet says. "And the chilling effect that you have inside my work force is, 'Whoa, now officers names are being thrown out the door. Hold it. Not right.'"

Asked how much damage that did, Tenet says, "That's not the point. Just because there's a Washington bloodletting game going on here and just because her husband's out there saying what he's saying. The country's intelligence officers are not fair game. Period. That's all you need to know."

"They didn't seem to know that in the White House," Pelley remarks.

"I'm done with it. I've just told you what I think," Tenet says.

So maybe that's what Tenet's book attempts, in part:

"...the chilling effect that you [can] have inside my work force..."

And the current blowback against Tenet from the State Department? More opportunities to rewrite Rice lies and "cannot recall" redux. But we know the facts. And in the context of a few short years, Tenet offers nothing new.

Can his book prompt a reemphasis on Administration and Rice lies about pre-Iraq war planning?

Richard Clarke's book [Against All Enemies]

..recounts a conversation on September 12, 2001, in which President Bush himself said:

"Go back over everything, everything. See if Saddam did this. See if he's linked in any way..."

I was once again taken aback, incredulous, and it showed. "But Mr. President, al Qaeda did this."

"I know, I know, but ... see if Saddam was involved. Just look. I want to know any shred ..."

"Absolutely, we will look ... again." I was trying to be more respectful, more responsive. "But, you know, we have looked several times for state sponsorship of al Qaeda and not found any real linkages to Iraq. Iran plays a little, as does Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, Yemen."

Following the publication of Clarke's book, White House representative Stephen J. Hadley told the CBS 60 Minutes news program, "We cannot find evidence that this conversation between Mr. Clarke and the president ever occurred." According to Washington Post reporter Barton Gellman, however, "two people who were present confirmed Clarke's account. They said national security adviser Condoleezza Rice witnessed the exchange." Gellman also noted that Rice has written an opinion article for the Washington Post which confirms that the conversation occurred.

(Good work, Mr.Gellman:-ed.)

Since this was the capstone of Tenet's CIA career, his silence about the betrayal of Valerie and the burning of the Brewster Jennings op is certainly suspect. But that's not all that comes to the fore, in the context of what we now know about COINTELPRO.

Going back to where this diary started: A 1997 press release from March 28th 1997:

    CIA: Covert US Warriors Examined
by Parveez Syed © Shanti RTV News Agency
WASHINGTON DC [SCN] - Discovery Channel in the US is set to televise a three-part series on the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Agency. The series, entitled "CIA: America's Secret Warriors", begins on Monday 31 March 97 at 10pm EST and runs through to Wednesday 02 April 97.
The series instructs and warns about the secret government. It includes a number of interviews with former directors, and officers - proponents as well as some critics. It deserves some sober attention and reflection.
Many critics of the Western or US intelligence community would consider "undemocratic empowerment" a valid description - secret budgets, criminality exempted from Justice Department action, policy approval that is often covert even with regard to broad issues, avoidance of public debate of many things it is assumed wouldn't be approved, etc.

(emphasis:-ed.)

Plus ça change....

The French say, “Plus ça change, plus c’ést la même chose,” i.e., The more things change, the more they remain the same.

    * ezdidit’s diary :: ::
*

Since his resignation in July 2004, when George Tenet officially left his position as DCI (he was gone in May ‘04, with vacation, personal & sick days), he has been teaching. With the recent publication of his book, Mr.Tenet aired his views on 60 Minutes. (CBS has it posted now on its website.) In his mea culpa/apologia for the misdeeds in Iraq that continue unabated as a result of what he wants to represent as his compliance and compromise, and Administration spin, Tenet doesn’t really shed new light on his suspected collaboration.

“She’s one of my officers. That’s wrong. Big time wrong, you don’t get to do that,” Tenet says. “And the chilling effect that you have inside my work force is, ‘Whoa, now officers names are being thrown out the door. Hold it. Not right.’”

Asked how much damage that did, Tenet says, “That’s not the point. Just because there’s a Washington bloodletting game going on here and just because her husband’s out there saying what he’s saying. The country’s intelligence officers are not fair game. Period. That’s all you need to know.”

“They didn’t seem to know that in the White House,” Pelley remarks.

“I’m done with it. I’ve just told you what I think,” Tenet says.

So maybe that’s what Tenet’s book attempts, in part:

“…the chilling effect that you [can] have inside my work force…”

And the current blowback against Tenet from the State Department? More opportunities to rewrite Rice lies and “cannot recall” redux. But we know the facts. And in the context of a few short years, Tenet offers nothing new.

Can his book prompt a reemphasis on Administration and Rice lies about pre-Iraq war planning?

Richard Clarke’s book [Against All Enemies]

..recounts a conversation on September 12, 2001, in which President Bush himself said:

“Go back over everything, everything. See if Saddam did this. See if he’s linked in any way…”

I was once again taken aback, incredulous, and it showed. “But Mr. President, al Qaeda did this.”

“I know, I know, but … see if Saddam was involved. Just look. I want to know any shred …”

“Absolutely, we will look … again.” I was trying to be more respectful, more responsive. “But, you know, we have looked several times for state sponsorship of al Qaeda and not found any real linkages to Iraq. Iran plays a little, as does Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, Yemen.”

Following the publication of Clarke’s book, White House representative Stephen J. Hadley told the CBS 60 Minutes news program, “We cannot find evidence that this conversation between Mr. Clarke and the president ever occurred.” According to Washington Post reporter Barton Gellman, however, “two people who were present confirmed Clarke’s account. They said national security adviser Condoleezza Rice witnessed the exchange.” Gellman also noted that Rice has written an opinion article for the Washington Post which confirms that the conversation occurred.

(Good work, Mr.Gellman:-ed.)

Since this was the capstone of Tenet’s CIA career, his silence about the betrayal of Valerie and the burning of the Brewster Jennings op is certainly suspect. But that’s not all that comes to the fore, in the context of what we now know about COINTELPRO.

Going back to where this diary started: A 1997 press release from March 28th 1997:

    CIA: Covert US Warriors Examined
by Parveez Syed © Shanti RTV News Agency
WASHINGTON DC [SCN] – Discovery Channel in the US is set to televise a three-part series on the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Agency. The series, entitled “CIA: America’s Secret Warriors”, begins on Monday 31 March 97 at 10pm EST and runs through to Wednesday 02 April 97.
The series instructs and warns about the secret government. It includes a number of interviews with former directors, and officers – proponents as well as some critics. It deserves some sober attention and reflection.
Many critics of the Western or US intelligence community would consider “undemocratic empowerment” a valid description – secret budgets, criminality exempted from Justice Department action, policy approval that is often covert even with regard to broad issues, avoidance of public debate of many things it is assumed wouldn’t be approved, etc.

(emphasis:-ed.)

Just read Tenet's book. His account of why the CIA hid information from the FBI on Hazmi and Mihdhar is an extremely superficial account of this event leaving out all of the important details to justify why the CIA had the names Khalid al-Mihdhar, Nawaf al-Hazmi and Selem al-Hazmi, who were on AA 77 and yet deliberately with held this information from the FBI for 21 months. They even had the name Khallad bin Attash, mastermind of the Cole bombing.

The identity of these terrorists was uncovered when they traveled to Kuala Lumpur for an important al Qaeda planning meeting that took place from January 5-8, 2000. All of these terrorists were photographed at this meeting and were identified as long time al Qaeda terrorists. The CIA did not give this information to the FBI until August 23, 2001, over 21 months after they first had this information. They even withheld the photos of Khallad from the FBI for another 8 days, until August 30, until one day after the FBI had been conned into turning the search for Mihdhar and Hazmi into an intelligence investigation instead of a criminal investigation.
.
In his book, he says when the CIR on Mihdhar was written by an FBI agent at the CIA on January 5, 2000, it was not sent to the FBI due to a simple mistake. But the FBI IG report says something different, it says that clearly written on the bottom of this CIR was the words; "Blocked by order of the Deputy Chief", (the CIA bin Laden unit), Tom Wilshire. There it is, every body can see this was just a simple mistake. The CIA desk officer who wrote this note then sent out another cable just after this cable had been blocked that said the information on Mihdhar had been sent to the FBI when it fact it had not been sent.

Yes, there you have it, yet another simple mistake. When the FBI IG investigators talked to Wilshire, he says he can not remember this CIR, the desk officer says she can not remember this CIR, who told her to block it or even why she sent out another cable saying this information had been sent to the FBI or even who told her to send out this cable.

Easy to see, just simple mistakes combined with collective mass amnesia. But the CIA hid this information from the FBI as reported in the 9/11 Commission report and the FBI IG report, on al least 9 more occasions.

Yes, yes that's it, just 9 more simple mistakes, making at least 10 all together, when the CIA deliberately hid information from the FBI.

They even hid the fact that Mihdhar and Hazmi were seen together with Khallad at the Kuala Lumpur meeting where the Cole bombing had been planned, clearly implicating them in the planning of the Cole bombing, but this information was withheld from the FBI Cole investigators at least 5 occasions, clearly just more simple mistakes.

Except isn't obstructing an FBI criminal investigation into the murder of 17 US sailors an extremely serious criminal offense, in fact a major felony. But when they deliberately withheld this information from the FBI investigators looking into the murder of 17 sailors, they also withheld the very information that could have prevented the attacks on 9/11 and could have prevented the horrific deaths of 3000 innocent Americans on 9/11.

According to George, so many simple mistakes, and according to the FBI IG investigators, so much collective amnesia.

Progs ONLY “love” you and think “happy” thoughts about you when you HATE any or all of the following: George Bush, Dick Cheney, Condi Rice, Paul Wolfowitz, Don Rumsfeld, Dana Perino, Tony Snow, Mary Matalin, Republican atheists, anybody religious (except Muslims or New Agers), people who tear up when the Star Spangled Banner is played, etc. etc. etc. Comment by vile venus —

Not so long ago, a Muslim woman posted on one of the threads, explaining her religion a bit, but I really don't recall any of the regular posters here ever writing about how much they love Islam. If you can recall such a case, please let us know. Otherwise, it's about time you drop your trite "progs love Islam/Islamofascist" bit. As for progs hating anyone religious other than Muslims or New Agers, I recall that we frequently have a poster here using the moniker "Patriotic Liberal Christian." How do you explain that? For that matter, how do you explain that, as Mighty Aphrodite, you identified yourself as Catholic but are now claiming to be Jewish?

I get the sense from watching his interviews that Tenet is on the verge of a breakdown. He has this impenetrable gaze and he does not sound sincere. He should be tried for crimes against humanity along with the rest of the Bush cabal.
