“The Democrats appear to have picked up four votes from the 218 that voted for the bill that was sent to the President yesterday.”

So, only like 70 more needed.

pretty close - give it another couple weeks and another few billion $ and another few hundred casualties, and those GOPers will defect in droves

LMAO. Yeah maybe when the war starts going badly Republicans will change. A couple of weeks at the most. LOL

DON’T SEND THE LITTLE PETULANT SHIT ANOTHER BILL.

HE HAS, BY HIS VETO, CUT OFF WAR FUNDING.

BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW

CLEAN SWEEP 2008

AND tp: STOP REMOVING MY COMMENTS.

Have you considered TP may be removing your posts for violating their rules about excessive irony ?

I mean you're suggesting that Democrats would win a clean sweep in 2008 by cutting off funding to troops in a warzone and posting this under the name "got a clue".

I stll do not undrstand the point of overturning the veto??

Well that's irrelevant because there was never any chance that the veto could be overturned. This required a 2/3rds majority.

That the bill had no chance of becoming law was know when it was being drafted. It being passed was never a serious possibility.

Just let the veto stand. Bush asked for money, the congress approved the funds (even more than he asked for), and Bush vetoed the legislation. I say, let it stop there. End of story.
Comment by chris L — May 2, 2007 @ 2:49 pm

End of what story ?
Democrat congressmen getting re-elected ? Democrats regaining the White House ?

WTF you think happens ?
There could be 99.99% public support for bringing the troops home tomorrow, but if you intentionally cut off funding for them while they are deployed in a war zone you will be crucified for this for decades to come.

Who would have thought that in response to losing an unloosable Presidential election, a Democrat might want to repeat the excercise. Astounding.

Well then….. Make just a MINOR change to the bill and send it back to the shrub!!!

They're doing this now. The minor change is taking out the timeline for withdrawal of troops.

"FOUR additional"….--RemoveBush

I don't see where they get four. We had TWO additional votes, J. Lewis (D-GA & Michaud (D-ME) -- Bluedogs who previously voted nay on the submitted bill.

They other Dems have supported the war from its inception (if they were in the House)

ALL the uphold-veto yea Dems, except McNulty, voted NAY on the submitted bill in the first place. Emailing them, as JTitor suggests, is a COMPLETE waste of time.

Not, you'll notice Gordon Smith of Oregon. Gordo is trying to position himself as a moderate - so he votes for the resolution, but reverts to type (R. Opportunist) and votes to uphold his master's veto. He's toast in Oregon.

The reality is a bill must be submitted that bush signs or is vetoproof.
This is how congress works.

No, it doesn't. No, it's not.
Congress has the Constitutional power to appropriate money to fund what it chooses. Congress does not have to submit a bill to fund anything it does not approve of. The reality is, Bush ASKED for funding and was told "yes" with stipulations. He refused the stipulations so no money is allotted. End of story. The troops are given no more money to continue the occupation and they have funds which are already approved and can be used for an orderly and safe withdrawal. Or Bush can leave the troops in Iraq without the funds to operate and, imo, by doing so he would be guilty of a "high crime or misdemeanor" and subject to impeachment.

Congress has the Constitutional power to appropriate money to fund what it chooses. Congress does not have to submit a bill to fund anything it does not approve of. The reality is, Bush ASKED for funding and was told “yes” with stipulations. He refused the stipulations so no money is allotted. End of story. The troops are given no more money to continue the occupation and they have funds which are already approved and can be used for an orderly and safe withdrawal. Or Bush can leave the troops in Iraq without the funds to operate and, imo, by doing so he would be guilty of a “high crime or misdemeanor” and subject to impeachment.

Veritas,

A fascist dictatorship is what we have now.

Donald Trump has stated that Bush is the worst president in the history of this country. He also expressed amazement as to how Bush won the 2004 election. OH! OH! OH! OH! Try OH-io. OH-io. Ohio is the state where the election was stolen. Of course, we already know about the 2000 election. OH! OH! OH! OH! FLOORED! FLOORED! FLOORED! FLOORED! Try Florida.

In the final analysis, I think Iraq is somewhat minor compared to global warming. Bush ( 43 ) did nothing to reverse global warming. I saw a video clip of his father ( 41 ), when he was president, several weeks ago making fun of tree huggers. His message was: tree huggers are kooks. He couldn't stop laughing. One belly laugh after another.

I'm glad the Bush family, and the cronies, have made millions of dollars. You can't enjoy the money if you can't breathe. You can't enjoy the money if you're frying in a skillet.

Bush, 41 and 43, were pawns of the energy lobby. The climate IS changing and it spells disaster, just like George W. Bush spelled disaster. I guess warmer temperatures, just one or two degrees, can change the entire world ecological environment.

John Edwards was just on CNN saying how Democrats should not back down. He said the American people want the war ended and are behind the Democrats plan to bring them home.

Personally, I think congress should at least hold off on this issue until the Iraqi government returns from their two month recess. Then we can pick up the issue of discussing funding for Iraq again. In the meantime, there are plenty of domestic issues right here in the US for congress to worry about.

The reality is a bill must be submitted that bush signs or is vetoproof.
This is how congress works. The repugs will cave by sept but all this withholding the money crap plays into repug hands. Right now they own this war and dems don't have the votes to override a veto. I love it when
people expect a 51\49 majority in the senate (counting lieberman) to "force" anything. Be happy they got an up or down vote at all!

Dems put a "Mission Accomplished" banner up at the House yesterday. “It’s a trumped-up political stunt,” Dana Perino, the deputy White House press secretary, told reporters traveling aboard Air Force One.

Talk about a black kettle!

Impeachment activist David Swanson said he was very encouraged by the two cosponsorships. "It’s wonderful. There are now three heroes in the US Congress. They deserve all the thanks and credit in the world. They have merely done their duty," Swanson told Atlanta Progressive News.
