Internal Justice Dept. probe targets Goodling.»

“The Justice Department is investigating whether its former White House liaison used political affiliation in deciding who to hire as entry-level prosecutors in U.S. attorneys’ offices around the country… Doing so is a violation of federal law. The inquiry involving Monica Goodling, the former counsel and White House liaison for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, raises new concerns that politics might have cast a shadow over the independence of trial prosecutors who enforce U.S. laws.”

So Goodling is the “fall gal” for the corrupt DOJ now? Of course, that means that if Monica is guilty, it goes right to the top….which means Gonzo and ultimately Bush will go because of it.

  2. veritas Says:

Iglesias and perhaps others have their genesis directly to phone calls to the white house so I’d say it’s a “slam dunk” that the Prez is involved up to his eyeballs in this one. Does he get to go to jail for breaking the law, too?

  3. Namtillaku Says:

Can she be a ‘fall gal’? She has immunity from congress ATM.

  4. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

Good reason for Monica Goodling to plead the fifth isn’t it? (Although, I still don’t see how she can get away with doing that.)

  5. Raven Says:

Her immunity kicks in conditionally, upon sworn testimony to the best of my knowledge.

  6. Raven Says:

Immunity from prosecution kicks in conditionally, upon sworn testimony.
If she does not testify, or cooperate, she can still be convicted of crimes.

  7. Raven Says:

    oh………there’s my first attempt…………..

  8. nolo Says:

    if alberto gonzales thinks that
    by “investigating” monica
goodling, he can thwart the immunity
deal contemplated by 18 USC 6005,
and underway — he has another
    thing coming
    .

    that would be political kryptonite
for the white house. . . i’ll write
more on this later tonight. . .

  9. barrelhse Says:

I hope this isn’t the Scott Bloch whitewash…I mean, investigation.

  10. Coffins Draped with Flags Says:

So does this mean that Goodling could lose her immunity? Guess this immunity only applies to her testimony in front of the Senate. The DoJ investigation would be something different. The beauty of this all… this is the beginning of the end of the Republican Party. And to think that boy Bush did it… just another star for his record book of things that he touched and destroyed.

  11. Gerald Gibson Jr Says:

He had help…lots of help from the GOP / Cheney / Evangelicals…etc..

  12. HavaCuppaJoe Says:

Can’t Google be sent a subpoena ordering them to turn over Goodling and Sampson’s search queries? (Look for an applicant’s name to see what they were searching for.) This would be like turning the administration’s surveillance state back upon itself…

  13. Buck Fush Says:

We can only hope that she sings like a bird for congress, and maybe, just maybe she might shead some light on alot of other matters too….hope KKKarl Rove gets his, for sure.

  14. OutSourced Says:

That probe would be unhampered by the use immunity that may shortly be granted to Ms. Geldling.

Back to the main question. Who, exactly, is paying the whopping fees Akin Gump must be charging to defend Geldling. Her AG team includes a top white collar crime partner, another partner, and an odd assortment of associates and assistants. Ms. Geldling is apparently unemployed and has a few bucks and a little equity in a DC metro condo. AG are not known for their charity work. I wonder if AG partner Ken Mehlman knows?

Yeah, let’s use their “spy” tricks on them. They’ll probably increase their whining saying that the Democrats don’t play fair.

  16. harald hardrada Says:

bush gets away with things because he knows how to use shysters in order to keep his opponents tied up in legal knots — that’s why on blogs we see such refined disquisitions on what the law says about anything bush does — america’s been going down the drain for many years because it’s sold its soul to the legal profession, whose job it is to keep the elite in power

Could it be Pat Robertson and his 700 Club contributions? Just asking.

  18. bob (not the hacker) Says:

at the least this gives everybody else in the Liars Club the “I can’t comment on an ongoing investigation” talking point…

  19. Marie Says:

No wonder her first reaciton was to invoke the 5th amendment.

  20. TomInMaine Says:

This looks like a DOJ tactic to scare Goodling. In efffect telling her that if she reveals to much to the legislative committees, they might give you imunity but we won’t.

If you play dumb, we the DOJ will back off.

No wonder she pleaded the 5th, she must have known that one way or another she is in deep do do.

  21. billjpa Says:

is it possible that this investigation by justice will be used to delay indefinitey Goodlings’ appearance before congress?

  22. ForTruth Says:

    Monica secretly likes “probes”.

  23. Karim Says:

Looks like the GOP is planning on throwing Goodling under the bus.

  24. Chocolate Jesus Love Anulingus Says:

    > is it possible that this investigation by justice will

I’m convinced this is what’s going on. This Monica could bring down the administration if she starts blabbing, I think they are desparately trying to do anything they can to keep her from talking.

  25. Kate Henry Says:

My bet is that they started this investigation to stop Ms. Goodling from testifying. They knew that by investigating her now, it would put her testifying before congress in the “double jeopardy” situation that got Oliver North off on a technicality.

The Bush administration would rather throw Ms. Goodling under the bus and prosecute her for doing something that Gonzales set her up to do, than they would have her testify in front of congress. Personally, I would be for giving her 100% immunity from any prosecution if it would bring down this criminal regime.
