The Bush administration today made it clear it was willing to engage in high-level talks with Iran during an international conference on Iraq in Egypt this week.
The US secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, will attend the event in Sharm el-Sheik, as will the Iranian foreign minister, Manouchehr Mottaki.
Should they meet face to face at the two-day meeting, starting tomorrow, it will be the highest-level contact between the two countries for almost three decades.

Is it still wrong to talk to Iran, or is it allright now that Rice might do it?

1.- Pelosi’s trip was not the first of its type. Many other Congressional delegations have met with foreign leaders in the past. Members of those are criticizing Pelosi now. And Pelosi’s delegation included Republicans, who are not being slammed.

2.- You are splitting hairs, and being ridiculous. What the Department of State was saying is that diplomatic contacts with Syria are wrong -which is consistent with the Bush administration’s criticism of Pelosi’s trip to Syria. Whether those contacts happened inside or outside of Syria is beside the point.

Oh, that’s right, Miss Nancy is filing for a first class ticket to Tehran, so she can party hearty with Dinner Jacket! What a glory hound. Maybe Ahmadhi-Nejad will threaten to exterminate all of Israel’s Jews again right in front of her and really embarrass her ass.

2. There are also many differences between Rice’s and Pelosi’s trips: Rice is meeting a Syrian foreign minister in Egypt. Pelosi actually went to Syria to meet with President al-Assad. Spokesman McCormack said, “[W]e don’t think it would be appropriate for high-level visitors, even those from the Congress, to pay a visit to Syria right now.” The State Dept is not being hypocritical because Rice is not traveling to Syria.
