World Bank rejects Wolfowitz’s family planning policies.

The World Bank’s Executive Board has approved a 10-year Health, Nutrition, and Population Strategy that strongly endorses sexual and reproductive health and rights, rejecting President Paul Wolfowitz’s regressive draft version that made “virtually no reference to sexual and reproductive health.”

UPDATE: The Center for Health and Gender Equity has more on the decision HERE.

Good. Now when are they going to fire his ass.

  3. Crump's Brother says:

    Ah… taste the rationality!

  4. Republicans are the Fear and Smear Party says:

The World Bank and the world are rejecting the conservative regressive agenda.

  5. Rocks911 says:

    #4,

Right you are, now if only a few more Americans stand up to be heard.

  6. hellinabucket says:

He will become irrelevent at the world bank. It won’t matter if he stays or goes. His standing has been diminished and he won’t ever get it back. The EU will be looking into having all members of the world bank vote for the next president and not have the US appoint one.

That raise he gave to his girlfriend was the best thing that could happen. To the rest of the world that is because it’s effectively cut the wolf’s balls off.

  7. whiteyfresh says:

first the MAJORITY of America turns on the regressive conservative movement, the the WORLD turns on the regressive conservative movement, now all that’s left is for the holdouts in America to realise that to make America truly a better and safer place, we HAVE TO change the regressive conservative administration…

  8. raynman says:

You know, you get kind of tired of the hypocrisy of these people who tell us how to live our lives and, at the same time, do exactly the opposite in their own lives.

  9. null says:

Stuck in my mind forever is the photo of Wolfie, standing in his stocking feet, with two holes where his yellow horny toenails had fought to get out for some air.

  10. Tom says:

Why, just the other day, GDumbya was sayin’ what a great job Wolf-whiz was doing in getting the World Bank to recognize the importance of eradicating poverty in the world.

Someone should clue GDumbya in — that’s a big part of the World Bank’s mission and it long pre-dated Wolf-Whizz’s arrival on the scene.

Why should anyone be surprised about this family planning deal? It’s as out-of-touch with reality as GDumbya’s comments about eradicating poverty.

I am sure that Wolf-Whizz and his little girlfriend “just say ‘no’”. Yeah. Right.

  11. Patrick1 says:

Well if there is two things these World Bank bureaucrats know about it is creating poverty and killing kids.

  13. Rocks911 says:

    Patrick,

O.K. I’ll cop to being a grammar Nazi but it’s hard to take someone who hasn’t mastered the English language seriously, the quote you were looking for was “if there ARE two things…”

    Maybe some night school?

  14. hellinabucket says:

The neocons and the far right have relied on the american public (and most of the world) to turn a blind eye. As long as American Idol is onand we all have a Big Mac in our belly we’ll be happy.

It’s wake up time for this country. The rest of the world woke up awhile ago.

  15. nofltwlt says:

To the board of the World Bank; please just fire Wolfowitz without much fanfare and without any further delay. Put him out on the street over night.

  16. RUCerious says:

Looks like nobody’s afraid of the big bad Wolf anymore!

  17. Coffins Draped with Flags says:

Great – they are walking right over Wolfie, he has become irrelevant and has no power.

  18. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

Again another example of the ultra-religious types not caring about womens rights. They only like boys.

  19. Coffins Draped with Flags says:

No need to fire wolfie because his now powerless. If Wolfowitz leaves the World Bank, boy Bush will just replace him with another incompetent Bushie.

  20. Zooey says:

Wolfie has no credibility on family planning policies — or anything else.

  21. Raven says:

Take him off the endangered species list.

  22. Tom3 says:

Here in Colorado, the Democratic legislature passed a bill requiring schools to teach scientific facts in sex ed. No more of those awful “abstinence only” curricula from the Religious Reich that included FALSE INFORMATION on contraceptives and sexually transmitted diseases.

Rep. Waxman did a report on these “Abstinence Only” programs in 2004 and found they were full of LIES about contraceptives.

And a recent report says “Abstinence Only” sex ed does NOT work. I have read this study and it is scientifically done.

Wolfy and Chimpy have been pushing the same “Abstinence Only” crap onto third world countries. Currently, 1/3 of all AIDS prevention money has to be this “abstinence only” crap.

Wolfy better pack his bags. I think he will be fired by the board before the end of the week.

  23. Pete Bogs says:

Bushies just can’t accept “the sex” as a reality that must be dealt with… unless it’s sex provided through a Washington, DC madam, of course…

  24. Ben Dover says:

Its unfortunate (to a degree) that the Reichwing is so set in their myopic ways that they are unable to realize, step by step, that we the people reject their tunnel vision of almost everything. Here’s another example where the majority says “to hell” with the neocon view on reproductive rights. Personally, however, I hope the Reichwing continues to try to shove its views down the throat of the body politic. The more they do the larger the Democrats majority likely will become in 2008.

Thanks for the reminder. But really, isn’t that sort of behavior indicative of some type of mental illness? Oviously there’s something wrong with him.

it is a tad Howard Hughes…

  27. Tom3 says:

Maybe Wolfie’s girlfriend can buy him some new socks.

She’s making close to 200 grand a year.

Wonder what Wolfy’s wife thinks about his girlfriend.

  28. Crump's Brother says:

    Patrick1,

here we go again. If you are against medically accurate family planning on a global scale, then you may as well say that you are for increased unwanted pregnancies, abortions, children being born into poverty, and higher rates of STD transmission. Because that’s what you get with abstinence only programs.

what is so wrong about telling people that abstinence is the best way to prevent these things, but barring that, here are some methods that help keep you safe from the items listed above?

  29. Tom3 says:

If theres one thing those Repukes know, its how to kill kids.

  30. Keith H. says:

Hasn’t Mr. Spittle been fired already ?

  31. enough says:

Super. If they are going to stuff his BS, there is less pressure to compromise in the effort to force him out. He might resign if his record was cleared but that should not be done. He needs to be investigated and fired–record intact.

  32. Crump's Brother says:

It’s nice that Patrick1 is kind of a wham bam thank you type. He gets in here, says what he has to say, then wont stay to debate it. He must already know the outcome of such debate.

  33. Coffins Draped with Flags says:

Wonder if the “twins” practice abstinence only? Just asking.

  34. Raven says:

    Maybe they just practice together…..

  35. nanlichi says:

    Patrick1,

I really appreciate your concern for potential life. In fact, just this morning I sent you an envelope of about 3 million potential little ones. Please give them a good life.

(If they dry up, just use the powder in your morning coffee. More where that came from!)

    Every 3.6 seconds
    another person dies of
    starvation and the large
    majority are children
    under the age of 5.

Family planning is absolutely essential to the continued existence of humanity and the earth as we know it.

Add to the last line, “Or gay hookers.”

  38. Swinger club says:

Many peoples think that Paul Wolfowitz’s promotion of his female companion had damaged the institution.

  39. Evil Spaniard says:

The problem is that WB prez is a political charge. Usually, the charges of prez of the WB and of the WTO are one for each of the USA and the UE. When Bushie appointed Wolfie with its royal finger, the WTO prez charge was covered by an EU member.

Now, not only Bush but all the neocon cabal, and many others in the USA GOP are fighting tooth and nail to not let bot charges in hands of the EU (the horror!).

Not that the USA minds if both charges were in his hands.
