Rush Limbaugh on Bush’s legacy:

By Faiz on May 3rd, 2007 at 8:50 pm

Rush Limbaugh on Bush’s legacy:»

“Long after we’re all dead and gone, when historians who are not yet born begin to write about this era, they’re going to place George Bush in the upper echelon of presidents who had a great vision for America, who looked beyond our shores, who didn’t just restrict himself to domestic policy niceties.”

Rush may not know it, but there is already a debate going on among historians. Rolling Stone recently wrote, “Many historians are now wondering whether Bush, in fact, will be remembered as the very worst president in all of American history.”

Wow, Rush is dumber than he is fat.

  2. Spudge_Boy Says:

Bush is by far the worst president in American history. He isn’t as bad a say Vlad the Impaler, but then again ol’ Vlad wasn’t President of the United States. So, he really can’t be compared.

  3. Markk Says:

George Bush’s vision? God and torture. That’s about it. Please, noone ever mix those two things together again.

Not to mention that Bush was isolationist before the September 11 attacks.

  4. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Rush got him some refills on his perscriptions!

  5. RUCerious Says:

Why isn’t RushLush on the podium in snake city? He’d make a perfect Repukelickan candidate.

  6. RUCerious Says:

Spudge, watch out, Vlad’s relatives live down the street.

  7. TD115 Says:

I would think that the mere idea that he mismanaged global support and undermined the safety of the United States through various inhumane and illegal prisons would be reason enough alone to think that his place would not be among the great presidents, but perhaps somewhere with Polk, Grant, and Johnston as poor presidents.

  8. unbelievable Says:

Five out of eight British historians listed who they believed was the worst US President thus far picked Bush. Out of 43 options, 5 picked Shrub first… Oh, and one didn’t pick Bush just because “everyone else would”…

  9. jeff Says:

Why? Because he wanted to end terrorism? Who doesn’t? Bush CERTAINLY is not going to be remembered for his effectiveness at ending terrorism.

  10. ken melvin Says:

Bush can tell Rush all about it when Bush gets to heaven.

  11. paul Says:

One of the best economic periods in history. Keeping our country safe from domestic terrorism for nearly 6 years after being drawn into a global war on terror. Fighting to liberate the middle east from tyranny and terrorism. Discounting baseless partisan attacks, keeping free of personal and political scandal. Of course, it hasn’t been easy, but when today’s liberal friendly press no longer feels the political expedience of condemning Bush policies, and objective historians review the period, it looks like Rush is probably right, again. Bush’s Presidency may be remembered as one of the best ever.

  12. TheHeathen Says:

    Do yourselves a favor.
Don’t listen to Rush or his ilk, or consider anything written by or about him.
Maybe he’ll just go away if ignored long enough.

  13. Tigris Lily Says:

At some point in our distant future, the American citizenry will be so embarrassed by George W.’s legacy, they will amend the constitution to erase his presidency from history.

  17. Granola Hippy Says:

The only problem the historians will have is deciding which embarrassing photograph of him they’ll use to represent him in the text books. I think the words “worst president EVER” will become a tag line to his name in the near future.

  18. Shane Says:

aaahhaaaaahhaaaahhaaaa, gasp, gulp, aahhaaah, gasp, chuckle, aaahahahahahahaha, wait I have a brilliant comment as soon as I catch my breath, aahhaahhaaaaaaaa, I’m dyin’ from laughter here …

  19. Briseadh na Faire Says:

they’re going to place George Bush in the upper echelon of presidents…

They’re going to put him right up there with George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan. His will be known as the most successful presidency ever! A time when peace ruled the world, when Bush balanced the federal budget and paid off the national debt. After the Rapture that will occur at the end of his term, which, by the way, the evil liberals will call a nuclear holocaust, they’ll refer to Bush as the second coming of Jesus Christ himself, leading a vast Crusade against the evils of fascist liberalism and radical Islamism and making the world safe for God-fearing Christians unto the end of time itself.

Mark my words! When Archeologists dig into the sands of time and rediscover the Bush Library, the world will know what a great leader, nay, what a great God Bush is!

    /rush

  20. stonehinge Says:

And you know, I bet most of Rush’s listeners nearly shed a tear in a brief, but poignant, emotional outrush at the thought that such honors might one day be bestowed upon their most beloved leader.

Easy to do, when his administration planned and carried out the attacks that provided the “new Pearl Harbor.”

Great people who carved their place in history whether presidents or not, they do not need endorsement from people like Rush Limbaugh.

  25. klyde Says:

spudge_boy @ 3 Vlad got a bad rep from being associated with the character Dracula. A lot of the things attributed to him were propaganda spread by his mortal enemies the Turks. VtI was no worse and some say a somewhat better ruler than the kings, princes and tyrants who were his peers.

Bush on the other hand was born into a republic a republic with a constitution that is a model for many other countries. But he is such a petty small grasping troll that he is willing to squander that to enrich himself and his friends and to aggrandize himself. No Vlad the Impaler I should say not.

Effectively, the great Rushbo is saying that he does not think George W. Bush will be remembered in our lifetime as either a great President or even a good President- more like a rotten one…so he has to justify his own monumental misjudgements, along with W’s as something that will be dealt with after we have all withered away. In short, the Ken Lay method of absolvence!

  33. j swift Says:

Rush Limbaugh could be right, if those hypothetical historians are Fascist Hacks writing government mandated screeds. Hell, I think it is entirely within the realm of reason that George W. 40. RH Says:

The future is notoriously hard to predict. Limbaugh has given himself some wiggle room by placing the evaluation so far into the future. Fifty years from know when the oil runs out and the planet swelters, President Bush may be acclaimed as the person who locked up the last remaining resources for the US. While billions die, Americans may escape the worst of the effects. This is, of course, unfair and criminal. However, so was killing off the Indians and importing slaves. It is just one of a long litany of actions Americans have taken to subjugate the world.

You didn’t bother to read the article, did you? Its author is a historian, you have to read it before saying Pres Bush’s administration will not be remembered as one of the worst.

Here is a link you should click on: History News Network: Where George W. Bush Ranks as President. Read the commentary round-up at the bottom. There is already a consensus among historians: Pres Bush is one of the worst.

Well said, RH. History has a way of healing wounds, especially when there’s no one around to recount the suffering a president’s policys may have inflicted. History has never held A. Jackson to account for ignoring the Supreme Court and slaughtering Cherokees…Remeber, millions wept at Stalin’s funeral, it’s possible W will get some kind of “pass” or that his response to 9/11 will not be seen as so reactionary 100 yrs from now…Limbaugh, however, will ALWAYS be remembered as a fat, disgusting, drug-addled windbag for the Fascist Right.

It was fun watching the 10 Republican presidential candidates pretend Bush isn’t destroying the Republican party. Bush is the very reason none of these 10 or any other Republican will be electable in 2008. And they can thank Karl Rove, too.

  58. WaltTheMan Says:

As time passes and Rush makes more comments, it becomes more and more apparent that flat worms and round worms preceded Rush in the evolutionary scale.

  59. stefan Says:

I talk to a rather wide range of people sometimes, the groups include immigrants, Catholics, liberals, a few Republicans and some foreign visitors. ALL of them say that Bush is by far the worst - THE WORST - president they know of in living history. They don’t just say “bad”, as they have about other administrations, they say “WORST”.

I’m sure one or two of the early presidents were pretty awful, but the world and country - and the presidency - has changed so much in the past hundred plus years you just can’t compare. Personally I’d guess that Bush is even worse than the worst of those, but I just guessing there.

  60. Lora Says:

    Comment by paul

Paul (and Rush), even Donald Trump, hardly a flaming leftist, has called this administration the worst ever. It won’t be remembered as corrupt, eh? How many people in this administration have already resigned amid allegations of corruption, or in one case last year, shoplifting? And how about all the no-bid contracts for Halliburton, Cheney’s former company in which he still holds stocks? I could go on and on. Finally, if you realize you don’t know how to spell illegitimate, why not look it up in a dictionary? BTW, you also misspelled “disastrous.”

  61. Kevin Says:

Carter will top the worst list.

  62. the republic of stupidity Says:

Jimmy Carter may have been ineffective, but he was, well, small peanuts compared to bushCo.

  64. Tom3 Says:

Carter was a good President and is a good Christian man.

    Chimpy is neither.

  65. david Says:

Bush might look like the worst president ever right now, but think of how bad he’ll look when all those Congression hearings and DoJ inquiries are finished with his administration. We don’t know the half of it yet. The corruption, the cronyism, the lying, the incompetence, the willful neglect, and the criminal behavior. Good grief! If you think he’s bad NOW, wait till his presidential papers go public. (Remember: he sealed the papers of Reagan and Pappy Bush, so the ‘good’ stuff goes way back to the beginning. I bet even Reagan’s halo gets knocked off when the truth comes out.)

  69. JPark Says:

JT, GSD is none of those. He is a liberal.

  70. paul Says:

Arne Langsetmo and JTitor. You should probably hope that a democrat doesn’t win (at least the presidency) in ‘08. Here’s why: Bush isn’t going to pull the troops and democrats don’t really have the muscle to impeach him (or Cheney). So, when your democrat gets to the white house, will she (or he) have the political will to pull the troops out? The press loves liberals, but the problem for you is that they love chaos on their programs more than they love liberals. Anyone who contemplates the situation, regardless of how we got there, realizes there will be a civil war blood bath/genocide (a real one, not what’s going on today), when we pull the troops. Your democrat will be backed into a corner by you, but the candidate you forward will be savvy enough to forsake you and you myopic ‘pull the troops out now’ montra, rather than be saddled with a legacy of both surrender and responsiblity for the genocide that will not play well. Surrender, retreat, genocide. The Carter years would seem heroic by comparasion.

  71. AboveTheClouds Says:

Rush needs a Democrat in the White House–how much longer can he and Hannity and O’Reilly blame Michael Moore and the Dixie Chicks for Bush’s failed Presidency? America and the world needs the US President to be a strong and visionary leader–instead we get Karl Rove telling Bush we need a divided nation.

Around the elk hunting campfire, it is not unusuak to hear these guys say that Bush needs a broadhead through the guts.

If the Repugs have lost these guys because of Bush, they are in serious trouble.

Worst president ever? I would argue that in the long run Bush may have been the best ever. It only took the Democratic majority 4 months to show America the GOP have nothing for America (unless war, death, and debt are considered “something”). What happened to those good old days when Denny Hastert and Tom Delay would conduct those votes to see who “supports the troops” or who “opposes gay mariage” or even who wants Terri Schiavo to get out of bed? Now that there is a bit of accountability this is Karl Rove’s chance to step into the limelight and show America he has more for them than just division, war, death, invasion of privacy, and debt. My guess is that the political ruling class protect themselves to some extent. They wont go hard on Bush, cuz it can happen to them sometime. I mean Clinton must still be laughing, cuz he didnt lose anything, his wife is there, he holds the contacts, he is a likeable guy…I mean, he is laughing.

You follow the names of politicians and tell me if they are “new” people: The Bush, The Kennedys, etc… pure nepotism. You rarely see a guy without some Ivy League education in the higher ranks of US politics, a working class guy. No, they just keep passing the power between them so it appears that there is something called DEMOCRACY, but that ruling class stays there no matter what.

Do you have shit for brains? The Democrats have a majority and have had it for approximately three months. How long does it take to investigate all the crimes the Reich wingnut rubbernecks turned their heads to for the past six years? You make the the Reichwingnuts look even more stupid than the look without your idiot kind. The impeachment has to be approved by Congress and there has to be a crime brought forward. We still have a constitution, although the drunk in the White House has tried to abolish it at every turn. When they come get you and you remember that you defended them, you may understand. Fucking moron troglodytes are in the 28%ers.

  101. David O. Says:

#57- CONTURD trolls and rush ‘lissners don’t know; they lie somewhere in the mid- double digits in IQ and much lower in intellectual curiosity.
ANYONE who hangs on the words of this vile, despicable junkie, hypocrite ( did i mention fat-ass limp- bough?) has some serious intellectual challenge going on upstairs.

  102. Rosencrantz Says:

And here I thought Rush was done carrying water for the Republican party. The real question is, if Bush was one of the worst presidents ever, would he have had to carry water in the first place? I don’t think so. The conservatives have turned desperation into genetics for the party. It’s not enough they had to work 20 years to turn Reagan into their legend…now they need to start pre-emptively spinning to turn Bush into a legend as well.

The republican party. They sure suck and everything in reality, but who cares when they can just attemp buying history. Who cares about America so long as the party becomes legend.

Is that why they’ve had Jeff Gannon on the payroll and sneaking into the White house to help pass out goodies to you losers?

  109. Joneses Says:

Bush already has his historians lined up to write the total opposite of what is happening now, of course in his favor. The neocons are writing their version of history, of course in their favor.

  117. Troll Supervisor Says:

Republicans like to paint them as the ones with the high morals. (I know how ridiculous it is but they do work it well.) This is no exception. What Rush is trying to imply is that we’re going through some tough times right now, but the sacrifice we’re all making (especially George and Laura) is not in vain. It’s for a great cause that will be appreciated in the long run.

  118. JPark Says:

#113 I don’t think people are buying it. They know nobody is making a sacrifice but those that are there and their families. Bring on the draft and see the Republicans scurry.

#110 The west (and south) has a problem with the “elite”. They would rather be represented by people like them rather than people more intelligent than them.

    Comment by JPark

Elite does not describe the ruling class. They do not, and will never know, what Elite truly means. If the were truly Elite you would never know their name. Things are not as they seem.

  120. JPark Says:

#115 That is the problem. They think anyone with a 110+ IQ is elite. Dammit, you can’t have a beer with one of them!!!

What sacrifice has any politicos made? Making speeches on TV? What long run? This was a freedom operation in Iraq. The war on terror is a wholly different subject, do not confuse the two.

Hey, hey, slow down, commie. Cashing all those 5 figure checks is not that easy.

I am tried of that BS.

  168. A Girl Says:

Oh. Rolling Stone wrote that. I see. Well, that settles it, then. They are an erudite, impeccable political journal, so… Please. I am highly, highly skeptical of Limbaugh’s prediction, but come on. We already have a worst president ever, in one Jimmah Carter, and his credentials will be hard to beat, even for non-talking-ass George W. Bush.

  169. JPark Says:

#161 Dipsh!t, your loser party was against attacking Germany. You ok with that? Limbaugh, Lindberg, no difference. A couple of toads.

  179. brianS Says:

I love how Rush warps “conservatism” to fit whatever the current Republican leadership is doing. Conservatives were against nation-building when Clinton was ending an active civil war in the Balkans. Bush repeatedly claimed to be against nation-building when debating Gore in 2000. Fast forward to modern day, and these same so called conservatives now think anyone who is against nation-building in Iraq is a traitor and anti-American.

I might have some respect for Limbaugh if he was just a conservative instead of a complete and total shill for anything Republicans do.

  180. Emily Danforth Says:

No, Juan Valdez, our constitution does not refer all people, ‘tard. It refers to all American citizens. Who gives a —- about you, if I may be so blunt? Take care of your own sh*t, I mean country, I mean, well, same thing. It’s obvious you’ve never actually read the document (hey, at least you can read English, I’ll give you that). I have it on my iPod notes, just so’s I’m quick on da draw, beotch (ooh, snap!).

  183. JPark Says:

#172 Are there two different keith’s?

Juan Valdez: Um, rednecks are just as disgusting as Mexicans, in fact they’re pretty much alike. I’m a WASP, loser. Though you probably don’t even know what that is.

  188. The Tau Messiah Says:

You are misunderstanding me. Juan was getting told that he could not criticize the US since he did not live there. I was saying by that logic noone in the US could criticize Nazi Germany since they did not live there. Now do you get it?

BTW, both of W’s grandfathers aided Nazi Germany.

  190. Gregor Samsa Says:

And after spewing arrogant, vile, racist, xenophobe comments at non-American posters at ThinkProgress, the brain-dead conservative morons will look at each other and ask:

  194. JPark Says:

#187 No, it is most of your twisted views that is a problem.

  195. A Girl Says:

Jurassic Park: Hello, uh, I do not read Bill Kristol’s rag (????). I am a girl, hence the name, not an 80-year old biddy. Rolling Stone is just superficial pap. It’s not like you can even logically defend that. It’s just a fact, deal with it.

  196. JPark Says:

#185 I get it Keith. It was just stupid.

  197. keith Says:

  198. JPark Says:

  199. The Tau Messiah Says:

So quit muddying the waters with your unfunny comedy

  200. JPark Says:

#184 Are you really THAT offended by a joke about being a communist? Really, this isn’t the 50’s. There are no real commies.

  201. Franz Kafka Says:

Gregor: No. Conservatives don’t ask that of each other. You’re projecting; that’s solely the province of panty-waisted, mind-bogglingly insecure leftists. Get some therapy, it’ll be cheaper in the long-run.
