Study: 1 in 4 kids go without health care.
CBS News reports on a new Children’s Health Fund study showing that “despite billions of dollars in government spending, more than one in four children still don’t have full-time health care — a gap twice as big as anyone thought.”

With what we spent so Bush could be a war president we could have had universal care for all. Of 300 million in our country, approximately 50 million are eligible for medicare either due to old age or disability. We now have 47 million uninsured, the working class,whose pay check goes partly to help support medicare – for those who are not working. This is absolutely insane. And how many of the working class are dying each year because of no health care? How many of the middle class will end up losing their home or in poverty? The rich benefits from the present system.

Or maybe it would be worthwhile looking seriously into getting the troops out of Iraq, and reducing the military spending.
Getting rid of pork projects, and using the money towards the CHIP, could also help in closing the financial gap in that program.

Would you care to guess what the middle class tax rate in this country is, when you take in account state taxes, local taxes, payroll taxes, etc.? The average tax rate in the US is 40% for all incomes – did you know that? And we don’t have health care.

Today, a family of 4 typically pays 800 to 1000 per month for health care. This is robbery. The steep rise in cost seem to begin with the Reagan administration, when health care went from not for profit to for profit.
Get rid of Health Insurance and go to single payer for all.

Thinking of 24 million sick children makes me want to vomit. Add to that, the thousands that have been killed, maimed, and psychologically scarred in Iraq. No matter what justifications Bush can give, it’s shown the mess in Iraq is priority 1, and our children are…. 5th(?), 6th(?),… Think of what me might have accomplished at home in 5 years. Insurance companies now practice medicine and tell their insured’s what they can and cannot have, paid for anyway.
In my case, I am totally disenfranchised from the American health system. I have Late Stage Lyme Disease. The Infectious Disease Society of America wrote a 13 page treatment guidelines that stopped my care at 60 days. Insurance companies are enforcing the 13 page guide.
Meanwhile, the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society wrote a 150 page treatment guide for Lyme Disease . Insurance companies went after the doctors that published the truth.
Medical Boards in almost every state are investigating doctors that treat Lyme Disease. After the Board is finished with them, Blue Cross Blue Shield moves in and sues for medical and insurance fraud. American Citizens ** covered by insurance** now have no doctors to go to for help and care with this ZOONOTIC illness.
Zoonotic illnesses are what authorities say can and will be used as bioterror weapons in our country.
The Infectious Disease Society of America has effectively squelched the attention and care of this SPIROCHETE>

The American war appetite has once again taken money away from the people who really needed it and given it to people of plenty, namely war-profiteers and Bushbuddies. Also, the kids would like to thank you for giving them this world in the state it’s in. Many millions suffer of hunger, many more suffer of poverty and the disease that goes with it, but still we find the GUTS to spend it all on weapons of mass destruction while DARING to tell others it is to DISARM the world?! There is no choice if the goal is to safeguard America’s individual health. I know that the thread is about children’s’ health care but there is a factor that pops into my mind when it comes to Children in America….
Families start with parents. If they are ill, injured or overly stressed than how can they be expected to provide anything for their children? The idea that you can help a child while the mother could be so ill that she is on deaths door step seems pretty cruel.
I could factor in illegal aliens getting charity care in all of the local hospitals as indigents but the government number puts them at 12 MILLION. The fact is there is no way to know the true average daily total that some estimate at around 20-25 million. When you compare my estimate or even the government estimate to the estimate of 24 MILLION KIDS that are screwed eliminating the illegal alien population would be a great benefit to USA’s babies!
We all know why our government does not respond to the true needs of the population. The relationship between the current government and the people is simple. The government is the slaughterhouse and the people are the black angus.

Once upon a time, taxes paid government workers to do jobs they wanted to do, because it was public service, and not for-profit. In their zealousness to reduce so-called government bureaucracy, the Reaganites and Bushie neocons have just replaced it with for-profit middlemen, and corporate bureaucracy. We pay more through the back door, and get less in return. Our infrastructure is in the process of being privatized, so rather than pay a fair percentage, we will be nickel and dimed to death everywhere we go… that would be the equivalent of a use “tax”.

Muckdog probably failed math in high school as he seems not to understand the concept of progressive taxation. Hint: the higher rates are not retroactive, but only apply to money made in the higher tax bracket.
BTW, did you know that American have a much higher rate of appendectomy and tonsilectomy operations than Canadians? And they pay more for the operations too. That’s because these are income generating operations in a For Profit health care system. They’re minor operations and often unnecessary, but they can be afforded by most insured patients so why not cut & charge?
Americans spend almost twice per capita on health care than those countries with Universal Health Care and they have spotty coverage and it’s not always top notch. And research hospitals in not-for-profit countries do more R&D because they’re not pouring their budgets into sales & marketing.

May 3rd, 2007 at 9:47 amMuckdog.. My sister lives in England and she couldn’t be happier. She doesn’t feel overtaxed. Even if she didn’t like living there, she can’t afford to come home. That tax rate you are talking about covers a lot more than universal health care. It will pay for your housing if you can’t afford rent because you lost your job, along with paying a stipend for you to live on. It will pay your retirement income when you stop working. I would be more than happy to pay 50% of my income in taxes if it guaranteed everyone in this country health care and the ability to live a decent life when bad things happen like sickness and unemployment.
I read recently that if the corporations paid the same percentage of income tax now as they did in the 60’s, we could pay off the insane debt Bush has run up for this insane occupation in less than a year. How about it. It has become the United Corporations of America, so let them pay their fair share so that the people who work for them can have a decent standard of living and health care.

No one in this country should be going without healthcare — especially children. They are innocents. I don’t care if their parents are illegals, if the children were born here they’re Americans, entitled to everything that goes along with that — which apparently includes a lack of healthcare.

OIL is a big factor JR. OIL equals ENERGY. When energy was cheap it happened to be abundant. The concept is that any system that exists has inputs and outputs. For about 100 years the main input has been OIL/COAL/NG. Back when oil and Texas was king it would take 1 barrel of LSC (light sweet crude oil) to recover (get, pump) 110 barrels of LSC so then we had a ratio of 110/1. This RATIO is called the EROEI or the Energy Returned on Energy Invested.
Over time Texas was depleted and it was apparent that the Texas oil industry could not in fact meet the increased demands of the US population. This is when we moved to imports and started to use more natural gas for heat and hot water. After a short plateau period Texas oil well output started to DECLINE and the EROEI started to fall as well. When a well reaches 1:1 it is history. Texas has many dry holes now.
Each and every day the world consumes 85M +/- barrels of OIL. The daily requirements for energy are on the rise. India & China make up about 1/2 of the global population of 6.5BILLION. This number is also growing every day along with the energy demand. Our population now uses or consumes resources at a faster rate than we can obtain them and more importantly our demand has now out stepped our supplies. Shortages are on the way.
On the news last night they mentioned gasoline being in short supply and blamed it on lack of refineries. In a way it is true that there is a refinery issue but it is not because there are not enough of them. Now I need to include HSC or Heavy Sour Crude into the nomenclature of oil. Like in the name this oil is the stuff at the bottom of the well so to speak. Since it has different properties than LSC it also has a lower EROEI. This varies from place to place but oil that is deeper, thicker and heavier requires more energy to get out of the Earth.
HSC is now the main oil output from Ghawar (the largest oil well in the world). Making gasoline from HSC is possible with different tooling (equipment at the refinery) however most of the US refineries are set up to only process LSC. The people on the evening news mentioned that Summer 2007 will see the price of $4.00 per gallon as an average in the US. This will only rise as we enter a phase of demand destruction and real supply shortages.
All of the oil wells around the world have gone into terminal decline at this point. It takes more and more energy (OIL) to pump and process oil that is declining in both quantity and quality. The current EROEI for oil recovery around the globe is 5/1 so for each barrel invested we recover 5 leaving us with 4. This is a far cry less that when Texas was king of oil at 110/1.
All of the alternative energy sources including nuclear are dependent upon OIL/COAL/NG. So in reality “X†# of units of oil are used to process “X†# of units of Uranium for a reactor. Growing corn or beets for Ethanol requires “X†# of units of natural gas to fertilize “X†# of hectares of land (soil is now also in terminal depletion). Ethanol is a combination of alcohol (from plants) and gasoline that is now in terminal decline since gasoline comes from OIL.
Basically the Republican & Democratic plan is the same in that both realize that the Earth’s entire human population will need to be culled in order to prevent our own extinction. The Republican version has the USA as the dominant global leader while the Democratic version calls for a one world government. Both are known as the NOW it is just a matter of what one becomes champion.
Culling the excess human population requires war, starvation, dehydration, disease, extreme conditions and infestations. The government has no interest in helping the 24 million children nor is it going to help the poor around the world nor is it going to pull out of Iraq nor can we change any of this. At best we can hope that “ALIENS FROM SPACE†land here on Earth and supply us with the ever elusive “Free Energy from Time & Space†system of energy production.
Till then the world will grow harsher and deadlier on a daily basis. The USA will in short order have millions of potential military recruits ready to serve in IRAN & KOREA & ETC. when the US economy collapses and Marshal Law is instituted….
This is why things are the way they are and die-off will happen regardless of how the deaths occur. Every story has a first page and a last page and so do humans. By the way if you think I’m negative and depressing just open your eyes for once and look around at the world we live in. Posters here generally argue about EVERYTHING but in the end most are in denial of the true gravity of our situation as mammals of the Earth.

And how do illegal aliens, whether children or adults, drive up the cost of healthcare for the rest of us if they can’t afford it in the first place? There’s some warped logic there. And no facts to back up your fantasy accusations.
You just can’t face the fact that 23 million children of American bona fide American citizens might be unable to have necessary medical care because you’d rather pay 50% more for your private insurance rather than subscribe to a public plan.
