over an acceptable level of violence. This was the exchange at today’s White House press briefing:
QUESTION: In October of 2004 John Kerry said, “We have to get to the place where we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they’re a nuisance.” The president said he couldn’t disagree more. Cheney called this naive and dangerous, and part of the pre-9/11 mindset. So does the president now have a pre-9/11 mindset?
SNOW: No, the president does not have a pre-9/11 mindset. And the fact is — I’ll have to go back and take a look, but my recollection is that there was an attempt to, kind of, minimize some of the security challenges. But I don’t want to put words in Senator Kerry’s mouth without looking back at the 2004 debate.
Watch it:
Holy crap!
You mean you guys actually recorded what we said way back then??
If we knew that, we’d have actually put some thought into our policies and statements……
May 3rd, 2007 at 4:41 pmYeah, better to just shut your trap before you get caught lying again Tony. I guess his time off has taught him that people are paying attention and he can’t just say whatever he wants.
May 3rd, 2007 at 4:43 pmIf he had a pre 9/11 mindset he would allow Al Qaeda to attack us at will with no response. Like the left did in the 1990s.

I know in my heart I should simply ignore the troll, but: Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman and his followers, who originally attacked the World Trade Center, were investigated, arrested, convicted and imprisoned in the 1990s. Compare this to the “success” the Bush administration has had catching bin Laden. Hmmmm.

May 3rd, 2007 at 4:52 pmTony Snow: I really don’t want to cite any facts or realities without first being instructed as to what my spin will be. Next question about how all democrats are traitors please…
May 3rd, 2007 at 4:52 pmI remember the good old days when Fmr. Pres. Clinton protected us from terrorist attacks after the 1993 WTC bombing.
There was not one more foreign terrorist attack on US soil until AFTER Pres. Bush came into office and allowed terrorists to attack the US and kill US citizens.
Once Pres. Bush got into office, he just didn’t give one single thought to terrorism until after he allowed thousands of US citizens to die ON HIS WATCH!

You mean Osama Bin Forgotten?
“I don’t know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don’t care. It’s not that important. It’s not our priority.”
- G.W. Bush, 3/13/02
Notice the date is almost exactly 6 months after 9/11
which made Bush’s statement on 9/13/2001 a total lie.
“The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him.”
- G.W. Bush, 9/13/01
Major Lie.
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:01 pm“No, the president does not have a pre-9/11 mindset.”
See, the reporter’s question implied that Bush has a mind, Snowjob is just responding correctly.
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:03 pmPatrick1 has a valid point. During the 90’s, Islamic terrorists attacked American targets in the middle east. The death toll was relatively low. Clinton did arrest those who tried to blow up the WTC in ‘93, tried them in an open court and sent them down.
The record of Bush is much better. On his watch, a terrorist strike of unparalleled magnitude hit the US. Bush went after the Taliban, brought them down and “drained the swamp”. A very wise move if he hadn’t dropped the ball and decided not to invest in rebuilding Afghanistan. Then, he invaded a country which had less the sod all to do with 9/11 and radical Islam, turned world opinion against the US and fuelled the rise of radical Islam whilst simultaneously killing innocent civilians, driving a country into sectarian hell and getting US troops killed for no apparent reason.
Patrick1 is right. Clinton did nothing compared to Bush. Well done Bush!
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:04 pmFour attacks on the United States in the 1990s. War declared on the U.S. my Osama Bin Ladein 1995. Chance capture Osama Bin Laden denied because of “lack of evidence”. Planning for 9/11 began in 1998.
The left’s response? Blow up a tent and an aspirin factory. The result 3,000 dead Americans in a little over an hour.
And we are supposed to listen to the left when they speak about the fight against Islamo Fascism? Why?
They are as qualified to speak on the subject as Algore is on climate change.
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:04 pmThe left saying anyone has a pre 9/11 mindset is not only hypocrisy but simply laughable.

May 3rd, 2007 at 5:12 pmThere is an excellent film on how the left fights Islamo Fascism. It is called the Path to 9/11.
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:13 pmPatrick1,
Clinton’s actions were the right ones.
bin Laden got what he wanted out of a reactionary pud like Bush. He legitimized the Al Qeada effort when he declared “war on terror”.
If he had hunted him and Al Qeada down, eradicated them through cooperation and good intel, that would have been the right move. IT would have kept bin Laden a marginal player in the world. It was this President who gave him, and his cause, legitimacy in the Arab world by attempting to blow it off the face of the earth due the actions of a total fringe element.
The corollary would have been if after the Oklahoma City bombing if Clinton would have invaded the south, and started picking off white christian males in a “war on domestic terror”.
To bad you don’t get it.
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:13 pmParrot1 the rightwing talkingpoint machine.
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:15 pmall that crap in post 22 has been refuted too many times to repeat again, you’ve proven you don’t listen or read, you regurgitate.
Where is binladen now? bush could have gotten him at tora bora, he let him escape. bush let all his relatives fly out of the US after 9-11, why? he could have killed Zacharihie during the initial invasion of Iraq but didn’t pull the trigger becuase bush wanted to say that AlQueda was in Iraq: the result is American Troops killed by ied’s. but you don’t care about them do you troll boy, you are scum.
I just love the Bush defenders and their rhetoric…..
The largest attack on American soil, and the most destruction to our country in our history but they think this is the greatest thing……
I would love to have a standoff with these cowards…….
They would run back to their basements and cower in the corner….
But when they don’t have to face someone, they sure are a tough guy!!!!
Yet when they have a chance to go defend what they support, they suddenly have excusses and other important things to do.
So Patrick1, when can we expect you to sign your name on the dotted line??
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:15 pmpath to 9-11 is just more rightwing propaganda and smear. only fools and tools believe it. which are you pattycakes?
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:17 pmI think we should be fighting “Christo-facism” as well, don’t you Patrick1?
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:17 pmOnce again, a valid point by Patrick1. 3,000 Americans are dead. What happened on 9/11 was a tragedy.
Two questions:
1) Who was President when 9/11 happened?
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:18 pm2) How many Iraqis are dead following the invasion of Iraq?
You’d think Tony’s approach to the edge, and his potential brush with death would re-align his priorities a bit.
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:18 pmClinton like most liberals doesn’t believe the United States is worth defending. That explains his lack of action that allowed attack after attack.
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:19 pmThere once was a troll named Patrick
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:19 pmWhose love for Boy George was just sick
He crawled under the podium
And got a load shot on him
Every single drop he did lick.
The al-Qaeda organization was allegedly responsible for the successful USS Cole bombing in October, 2000.
In response to these attacks, President Bill Clinton ordered a freeze on assets linked to bin Laden. Clinton also signed an executive order authorizing bin Laden’s arrest or assassination. In August 1998, the U.S. military launched an assassination attempt using cruise missiles. The attack failed to harm bin Laden but killed 19 other people.

You don’t defend Bush on that, because you cannot.

Patrick….
What was your buttbuddy Bush’s response to 9/11 and Bin Laden? Attack the wrong country.
Maybe Clinton didn’t respond as forcefully as you neo-cons would have liked (although part of that was that the very same neo-cons were screaming ‘wag the dog’ every time Clinton tried to do something to protect the country), but at least he tried.
All Bush has done is make the terrorists stronger.

“That would put a kid in harms way, more so than he or she already is.”
President Bush, on how withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq would put them in greater danger, April 27, 2007.
“If the standard of success is no car bombings or suicide bombings, we have just handed those who commit suicide bombings a huge victory.”
President Bush, April 25, 2007.
“So I don’t know where he is. You know, I just don’t spend that much time on him…I truly am not that concerned about him.”
May 3rd, 2007 at 6:03 pmPresident Bush, pn Osama Bin Laden, March 13, 2002.

Boycott the gaggles and try to dig up some truth for once.
May 3rd, 2007 at 6:31 pmTony Snow is terminal. He will be gone from this world by the time of the election, or at best be confined to his bed or some bed in a hospice. This is obscene, to have him in his condition, as a spokesperson for Bush. It is his choice, I guess. I mean you gotta go down fighting–for the murder of troops who are killed everyday and in support of a stupid man who lied to his own people to murder and kill and devastate and destroy a country that was no threat. I would think Snow would want to spend his last days, enjoying every moment with then people he loves, his family. Instead, he chooses to continue on supporting and defending a murderous criminal. Sigh–It’s his life and it’s his death.
May 3rd, 2007 at 6:57 pmI too, cannot comprehend Tony Snow’s motives… fame?
May 3rd, 2007 at 7:09 pmGoing out in a blaze of glory?
Anyone who has a bout with cancer needs to change lifestyles, sometimes drastically, in order to simply survive.
For Bush to allow Tony to continue, if he hasn’t even requested his continued service, perhaps indicates Bush’s willingness to play Snow for a tragic martyr figure.
Goodness knows Bush uses the martyr control drama often enough himself.
With all due respect: Tony, go home and get well. Your present role cannot be enhancing your chances for a complete recovery. If for no other reason, resign for yourself.
May 3rd, 2007 at 7:21 pmI feel sorry for any asswipe dumb enough to take that job being the spokesman for the dumbest, worst president we’ve ever had. They have to wake up daily and try to explain what Dubya really meant when he said something stupid.
May 3rd, 2007 at 7:30 pmI don’t understand how Clinton could have supported an endless war against terrorism in the 1990’s. None of those attacks you mention are anywhere near the watershed moment 9/11 was, Patrick. Also, if he had decided to wage a war against this “islamo-facism” movement, I would believe that the position you take now would be staunchly opposite as he worked for the other team.
May 3rd, 2007 at 8:55 pmPersonally, I think Snow is an idiot and that Bush won election by positioning himself as an RNC puppet (twice), but Snow’s comment/reply indicates a positive turn of events to me.
Has he not essentially taken Kerry’s position? … even if he has simultaneously attempted to exile Kerry to a more remote position.

May 4th, 2007 at 9:29 amTony Snow is facing death, just look at him. And still he is up there spinning. Does he believe what he is saying or is he now trying desperately to provide as much money as possible for his family to live on after he is gone? I am going to watch him, a republican facing his mortality – what is going on inside him, any soul searching ya think?
