VA officials receive five-figure bonuses.

“Months after a politically embarrassing $1 billion shortfall that put veterans’ health care in peril, Veterans Affairs officials involved in the foul-up got hefty bonuses ranging up to $33,000.” In total, the VA dealt out “more than $3.8 million in payments by a financially strapped agency straining to help care for thousands of injured veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Because Bush said he was going to run this country like a Corporation, and that is one promise he is hell bent on keeping.

  7. Tom3 says:

Can anybody tell me why bonuses are given to incompetent Chimpy cronies? That’s who got the bonuses. High level managers appointed by the White House.

  8. And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid says:

“Accountability.” Republicans: you keep using that word. I don’t think that word means what you think it means.

  9. Tom3 says:

The VA is turning away patients from chemotherapy.

That’s how bad it is. And these fat cats got bonuses.

The only problem is, he’s running it like one of HIS corporations, all of which he ran into the ground. The one exception was the Texas Rangers, which benefited enormously from the construction of a new publicly-financed stadium.

YEP, but I did not say he would/could be sucessful!

He has NEVER been sucessful at ANYTHING he has EVER done in his life, so I did not believe he could do this either……

    Just saying….

  12. Wayne says:

With the current state of the VA, they are getting bonuses?
    This is totally f*cked up.

Alot of disabled vets would like to give them a “bonus necktie party” instead.

Oh come now, Patrick1. What the hell is wrong with taking care of our troops?

And yes, I personally would LOVE socialized medicine (like other industrialized countries have) but this is not socialized medicine on this thread.

Nice try, but you know, you really suck at this troll stuff!

i experience the lack of money, competence, expertise, empathy, every damn time i step foot in the ‘chop shop’. the va is not there to help but to get rid of you because it costs the government to much money to keep us alive. why do you think the majority of vietnam vets, which are the largest population in the system are over medicated and folks deliberately being poisoned. why do you think our fellow bush war vets are being forgotten. MONEY FOLKS. IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

Hey, this is how they do things in corporations. At least that is how it is done when a bad CEO is running the company into the ground. You can’t say that Bush broke his promise to run government like a business.

uncle sam dont give a damn and donald duck don’t give a f*ck, so f*ck this sh*t, f*ck this sh*t, f*ck this sh*t now. that was good o’l transport chant we would say at bootcamp.

Patrick-always-an-idiot must not have a dictionary. Wait, even then he has no excuse, because I and several other people here explained to Patrick what the term “socialism” means, but to no avail, it seems. So what are we to conclude? That Patrick can’t look up a word in the dictionary? That Patrick can’t remember a simple explanation when it is spoonfed to him? What a f*cking idiot.

  24. OutSourced says:

The federal govt is no place for cash bonuses. The US govt is not a private business and cannot and should not be run like one. Even that analogy is a stretch for this President, because despite his vaunted Ivy League business degree, the operations he has managed have failed miserably, only to be bailed out on non-economic terms by dad’s friends more interested in currying favor with dad than in teaching junior that actions have consequences.

Federal employees need reasonably competitive compensation. But personal financial gain should not be among the motivations for their decisions, or even for determining who to hire. Who wants Defense, FEMA, the FDA or the Supreme Court to decide important issues that affect us all based on what’s good for the President’s cash contributors?

  25. ardee says:

Most executive-level management today, regardless of the industry, is unethical because the corporation (even the government entity) is now constructed around and driven by the profit motive. This motive best operates when there are no built-in morals, values and ethics to prevent unbridled greed, power and money worship to rule all decisions, so those who rise to the top in organizations are usually those who fit best in that unethical environment.

  26. the republic of stupidity says:

Uh, instead of 5 figure bonuses, how about 5 year sentences?

  27. craig mack says:

    Hey Spudge:
They can get Bonuses because they are not in traditiona Civil Service Positions. The clowns are in a status (being dept. heads, appointed) that allows for annual benifit reviews.
I have several friends that are lying up in walter reed right now who’s family could use that bonus money to pay their bills, since they are spending their entire saving staying in the area to try and comfort their loved ones. What a crock….

  30. Joe says:

$33,000 is about 20% of the maximum federal salary for most government employees – about $165,200 (2006). Last time I checked, it’s not the job of the government to compete with the private sector. If they lose them, it’s not as if they’re the beacon of competence, anyways. Bonuses don’t make any sense in either economy.

  31. Namtillaku says:

Notice how the trolls aren’t touching this one. I guess it’s so obvious that the Bush administration is anti-troop (not anti-war of course), that it leaves them speechless like us.

This is just one more example of how the Bush administration doesn’t give a sh*t about you Patrick1, and Jake, and valiant venus; right along with the troops, me, you, christians, whoever. They have one goal, and that’s self-enrichment at the expense of the rest of us.

  32. the republic of stupidity says:

“They have one goal, and that’s self-enrichment at the expense of the rest of us.”

Actually, Namtillaku, I think they have even a bigger one in mind here – they’re deliberately trying to destroy the Federal government. They want to bankrupt it, force it to permanently shrink, to collapse – no public schools, parks, social welfare net, no Social Security, Medicare, courts… just corporatocracies and the filthy rich dictating to eveyone.

I find it astonishing that when BUSH APPOINTEES finally get busted for being abysmally incompetent, all consevatives do is point and say, “See, government can’t do anything right”.

Jaw-dropping level of disconnect w/ these guys. It’s like they’re really saying, “See, we told ya we couldn’t do anything right, and it’s your fault for letting us do it”, which, in a matter of speaking, is technically correct.
