J.D. Crouch, the deputy national security adviser whose office “was the nerve center for the Bush administration’s top-to-bottom review of war strategy that culminated with the president’s decision in January to send more troops to Iraq,” announced his resignation today, saying “it was time, for both him and his family, to leave the government for the private sector or academia.”

“the strategy I was assigned to design – but was doomed from the start – has passed the final deadline of credibility for meeting original objectives and all further efforts in this area will only result in an avalanche of blame from both upper management and their political enemies, and if I want to salvage my career I’d better cash in what credits I still have, now.”
