"Robertson on Islam:

I believe it’s motivated by demonic power. It is satanic and it’s time we recognize what we’re dealing with. … [T]he goal of Islam, ladies and gentlemen, whether you like it or not, is world domination. "

Oops, psychological projection from Christianity. Motivated by demonic power too! Wow! No suprise to me, they worship a God, just ask them what God...do they even know?

Ok, I missed the rule that said zooey can be nasty and hateful to anyone but must be treated with kindness in return. I'll remember that in the future. I never judged anyone, I simply pointed out that there have been bad effects as well as good from the liberalization of our society. No one was willing to discuss the issue. There were just the usual diversions (abusive marriage, derogatory remarks about the "good old days" as though there was nothing good about the U.S. prior to 1964, etc.)

What have I done to help? I choose not post any personal information because people here tend to gleefully include such things in their attacks. Suffice to say, I take advantage of several opportunities to help. One thing I don't do is excuse anyone for criminal behavior if they have the mentality to know their actions were wrong. They should be punished for their actions and then given help to change if they desire.

The media worries so much about whether poor Mitt Romney might face prejudice, as a Mormon, from the Christian Evangelicals, yet they don't seem to see the irony when Romney is unable to pass up a photo-op with one of the nation's preeminent, hate-mongering crackpots. A man who prays away hurricanes, who calls for assassinating leaders of other nations, who praises a book by RJ Rushdoony that includes a call for death penalty for gays, who hobnobs with dicators like Mobutu, profiteering off of slave labor in Zaire diamond mines.

It is a portrait of a country that has become decadent almost beyond description, a cartoon caricature of itself, a rotten fruit getting ready to fall from the tree. Somehow the word "decadence" has become associated with the Left, but Romney-Robertson amply demonstrate that the real sickness of which the country is dying, is typified by the far-Right.

"i would agree with you, but those quotes are taken severly out of context."

No they aren't. They were pointed out to me by a former preacher who practically memorized the book when he was studying it in bible college.

"if you read on to matthew 10:22-23, JEsus continues on to describe how his teachings will divide families"

None of that makes any difference. Jesus is still just as violent as teh Old Testament.

I doubt he' was even real. There is zero authentic historical record of him.

"that portion of scripture shows in pretty graphic language (which Jesus wasnt afraid to use) that our devotion to Christ should depend on that which is perfect (God) as opposed to that which is imperfect (human nature) that is a point that can be debated, but if you are a follower of Christ, then it should make sense in terms of faith and belief."

Yes, you have to suspend reality to "get it". No thanks. It's absurd and violent and there is ZERO proof for it.

"for at the time, to follow Christ was to go against ones own family."

Your rationalization isn't convincing. Sounds like an excuse to try and hide teh violence.

"i am open to debate the basic tenets of christianity, but please try not to take scripture out of context to twist it into something that it is not."

I didn't. You did, by trying to rationalize it with a lot of stuff that the bible didn't say.

"a beleiver in christ.

It's plain and simple, no matter how much you try to twist it. Luke told the same thing:

Luke 14:26 – "26 If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple."

Hey, I got an idea, let's give him some of Mann Coulter's Creme Broule she was cooking up for US Supreme court Justice Kennedy. Yeah, that's the ticket. Do, unto him, what his sycophantic little fucks do to others. You piece of shit, bag of protoplasm.
Not even worth describing as a human.

Arrest, Try, Hang. And then in his case, dismember, a shoot off into the sun to rid the human race of his particular gene strain.

Yeah, blue, manners..on this site? I’ve seen how the nice folks are savaged around here. Why don’tcha check zoo’s responses around this site for manners. Come on back with a comparison of hers to mine. If my language is worse than hers, I’ll apologize. Being nice doesn’t fly around here.
Comment by upright left

I lost my manners on this site long ago when "nice folks" such as yourself started calling me names, making assumptions about my sexuality, attacking various family members, and hijacked my name to spew filth.

I have been polite to you, for the most part. For example, I use your correct sign on name. You are the one making up names for me, not the other way around. Don't throw the fact that I use different names for other comments at me -- this is between you and me. I know how much you hate distractions.

I don't know what made you so special that you think people ought to live to your standards, or that you have a right to judge anyone else, but I've got news for you -- you're not that special. None of us are.

It's easy for you to judge parents who haven't done the best job raising their kids, but what do you do to help remedy the situation -- other than complaining and judging? Get off your high horse and realize that not everyone in this country has been as fortunate as you and me. Try feeling a sense of gratitude instead of superiority.

I never ever said nor wrote that the liberal agenda is perfect. I simply happen to agree with more of it than I do with the neoCON agenda.

FINALLY! That's been my whole point. Not EVERYTHING that has resulted from our society becoming more liberal has been good. Glad to see ya loosened up on that "ya" thing, but I'm not your buddy michael.

Covalent Border
I first saw something about the decline in the unwed teenage birth rate, while that in red states practicing abstinence-only education is rising on a Japanese news program while in Japan. (I am fluent in Japanese.) In other words, even the media in one of the US's strongest allies is making fun of American policies concerning sex education.
You might be able to find out more about this on sfgate.com
The link you provided is quite informative, in any case.

I never ever said nor wrote that the liberal agenda is perfect. I simply happen to agree with more of it than I do with the neoCON agenda. Otherwise, I have no idea what question you think I am refusing to answer. So goodbye to "ya" for now, uptight michael

Romney is a fool. More importantly, every student who goes to Robertson's "university" (snicker) is a worse fool. Those idiots are paying money to be "educated" by a superstitious con man who believes hurricanes are the wrath of God, homosexuals and feminists are the cause of the downfall of the west, and evolution is the work of the devil.

Superstition is learning; ignorance is wisdom; up is down. Animal Farm is revisited in Virginia Beach. Pity the poor "graduates" with their magic diplomas at the end of four years indoctrination.

In other words, you refuse to address the question. That's fine. You have that RIGHT, don'tcha? ;) Oh, just in case you are concerned that I will now start searching your posts for punctuation errors, you're safe. I only come here to discuss the issues. You have a real good Sunday, now ya hear?

Kevin says: I stand for personal rights and responsibilities. Limited government regulation. Helping my fellow man and eliminating government handouts. Taxing me for what I spend not what I make.

You know, that was the prevailing attitude in 1929. You know what happened then?

Yea, these clowns are real christians allright. Only problem, their definition of christian is not "Christlike", but their own evil, corrupt, demeaning, greedy, uncharitable, deceitful, spiteful, divisive ideology. Other attributes are appropriate.

Unwed teen pregnancy is higher in the red states, mainly because abstinence-only education is a failure. In California, for example, where many schools also teach about birth control options, the rate of unwed teen pregnancy has been dropping.

Lora, do you have a link? I'd be very interested in seeing the data.

What you say is also evident around the world, too. The countries that teach sex education/sexual health to teens, and make available contraception, have the lowest rates of unwanted teen pregnancy. I've posted this data before on an earlier thread, but I think it worth posting again.

Comment by Scott — May 5, 2007 @ 5:36 pm

i am open to debate the basic tenets of christianity, but please try not to take scripture out of context to twist it into something that it is not.

a beleiver in christ.

Scott, indeed there are some very good things in the Bible, but also quite a lot of nasty things.

Of course a lot of Christians take the good stuff and are nice, moderate people. But a lot of other Christians take the bad stuff and twist it to suit their purposes. This is called cherry picking, and the parts that get picked depend on the reasoning of the person doing the picking.

God hating gay people, for example. Indeed, God does hate gay people if you read the Bible literally. Jesus also preaches that we should love each other. Pat Robertson is simply applying his own interpretation to his particular holy book, as does Fred Phelps. So does the Pope. So do Islamic imams.

This is why people of moderate or no religion like myself get so frustrated with extreme religious dogma. I have no stomach for a creed that preaches hate, that makes moral decisions about what consenting adults can do in the privacy of their own bedroom, that preaches to young people that sex out of marriage is sinful and actively discourages sex/sexual health education, that tries to twist science with (un)Intelligent Design.

BTW I apply the same criticism to any kind of extremist, controlling dogma, whether it be religious or not--I'm a equal-opportunities dogma kind of gal.

Is it getting a little late for ya, Lora? I didn’t try to address every possible scenario because it isn’t possible in a forum like this? ....
If not, more parents would stay together just for that reason, right? You avoided addressing any of the societal ills that have gotten worse as our society has gotten more liberal.

While writing at 3:18 am EST, you ask me if it's a little late for me but don't seem to think it's late for you, do you? Do you realize that there are different time zones in the world--even within the USA? In the time zone I'm in, it hasn't been late. I really don't care to address all the sweeping generalizations made by a guy(gal?) who doesn't even know the difference between an ordinary statement (requiring a period) and a question (requiring a question mark), because it is getting late where I am and it's also not worth my time. But you also don't seem to realize which party has been in control most of the time in recent decades. Oh, yes, the decadence of Rev. Ted, Mark Foley, ex-Deputy Secretary of State Tobias, Jimmy Swaggert, Tom Delay, Randy Cunningham, etc. is all the fault of increased liberalism, eh? Give me a break!
Ps. I will definitely not answer to any more messages calling me "ya."
Pps. Unwed teen pregnancy is higher in the red states, mainly because abstinence-only education is a failure. In California, for example, where many schools also teach about birth control options, the rate of unwed teen pregnancy has been dropping.
