Breaking: World Bank panel finds Wolfowitz broke the rules.
The AP reports:
A special panel has found that World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz broke bank rules in arranging a pay package and promotion for his girlfriend, a person familiar with the report said Monday.
Wolfowitz was presented with the findings by the special bank panel investigating his handling of the 2005 promotion and pay raise of bank employee Shaha Riza.
The report was not made public, but the person familiar with its findings confirmed that violations were cited but did not provide any details. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the report has not yet been released.

the burden of acting or not acting ethically lay squarely with paul wolfowitz and blaming anyone or anything else is a gigantic load of bullshit... to avoid any appearance of impropriety, shaha riza should have resigned and severed all formal business contact with both the bank and its president, her main squeeze, and if she wouldn't do that, it was up to wolfowitz to dismiss her... nothing else would have sufficed...

Does anyone know why the President of the United States gets to appoint the head of the World Bank? Wouldn't it make more sense for all the nations to choose a President? As long as Bush is allowed to appoint the head of the bank, he will continue to use the World Bank as an extension of the Republic party the way he has done with the rest of our government.
