Gonzales angered when WH ties to firings were exposed.»

On Feb. 7, 2007, Alberto Gonzales’ spokesman Brian Roehrkasse told two top Gonzales aides that the Attorney General was “extremely upset” that his deputy, Paul McNulty, had told the Senate Judiciary committee the day before that U.S. Attorney Bud Cummins had been fired to make room for an aide to Karl Rove. But why was he upset?

When the Roehrkasse e-mail came to light, he told the press that Gonzales had been upset because he believed that “Bud Cummins’ removal involved performance considerations.” But on April 15, Congressional sources tell TIME, Gonzales’ former chief of staff Kyle Sampson told a different story. During a private interview with Judiciary Committee staffers Sampson said three times in as many minutes that Gonzales was angry with McNulty because he had exposed the White House’s involvement in the firings — had put its role “in the public sphere,” as Sampson phrased it, according to Congressional sources familiar with the interview.

it isn’t the crime, it’s the coverup that matters.

is this enough to impeach Madame Speaker?
or one of the other 5 things that happened today, maybe?

they have had this statement about willful obstruction of justice and perjury, and congress still hasn’t done anything?

    zzzzzzzz hmphgh. zzzzzzzzzzzzz

For the latest news, document dumps, email archives, hearing transcripts and other essential materials in the firings of U.S. attorneys, see:

  3. TomR Says:

Gonzales, you don’t get to be angry. You get to be whooped by Congressional investigations.

Oh and thanks to you, you don’t have any right to Habeus Corpus.

  4. GOPcurious Says:

Gonzales is a joke. He should be fired and thrown to the dems so that all the leaks can be plugged properly.

  5. goehl Says:

My goodness… How can the republican revolution continue???? It has been exposed the WH fired attorneys so they could put their corrupt ones in to over see the future crime ridden elections going in their favor….

Wasn’t it enough they gave us fraudulent touch screen voting machines? At least the plane crashes stopped for awhile.

  6. Raven Says:

Looking forward to Gonzo’s Thursday Capitol Hill appearance….
Isn’t one of his underlings due to appear tomorrow?

  7. veritas Says:

#1 I would agree with you wholeheartedly. It would seem to me that Congress has enough on Gonzales and Bush at this point in time vis-a-vis clear “obstruction of justice” in attempting to defraud the american people to impeach the whole lot of them. Pelosi had better put impeachment “back on the table” or the american people are going to go bonkers.

  8. veritas Says:

And, frankly, I don’t see why they need more than what they already have to bring about impeachment charges against all of them. Having Gonzo testify again after he’s already perjured himself is senseless. Do two perjuries mean double punishment? It’s not about “how much evil and wrongdoing is done” - we only have to have evidence of it occurring once and it’s all over but for the cryin’. Where are the impeachment charges, Congress? We deserve better than this.

  9. Zooey Says:

Abu Gonzales is a sorry excuse for an Attorney General.
He hasn’t an ethical bone in his body.

  10. jeff Says:

    Bush
    Stalin
    Amin
    Chavez
    Hussein

    All obstructers of justice.

  11. kelso Says:

Gonzales didn’t do all that stonewalling and fake-forgetfulness for nothing!

We ran everything. We paid off cops. We paid off lawyers. We paid off judges. Everybody had their hands out. Everything was for the taking. And now it’s all over. (goodfellas)

  12. GOPcurious Says:

You really think that impeachment is good for this nation? Impeaching two presidents in a row makes it look like a standard practice when, in fact, it should be used only rarely if at all.

  13. Raven Says:

It is a very sad commentary on the condition of our government that Impeachment has been raised at all, much less twice in as many presidencys….

The Clinton impeachment was NOT good for the country. A Bush impeachment would be. Infidelity and lying about it are pretty common, not worthy of the rare impeachment process. Taking the U.S. to war on false pretenses, defying laws regarding spying, using the White House as a stage for political activity, and obstructing justice of an investigation of using the appointment of US attorneys who will aid and abet voter fraud - those are rare and worthy of impeachment.

  15. kelso Says:

If the current administration that’s riddled with thieves and liars haven’t done enough to get impeached yet, then it’s doubtful that there will ever be a strong enough reason in the future that merits a call for impeachment.

(unless it’s a democrat, of course)

  16. Raven Says:

As far as grounds for impeachment go, war crimes, and crimes against humanity carry far more weight than illicit sex.
And now we know that the scurrilous little gingeritch who led the Clinton impeachment was up to the same canoodling behavior.

  17. Republicans are the Fear and Smear Party Says:

republicans would impeach a ham sandwich.

    Extremely well put PLC.

  20. SKdeA Says:

Gonzo is dreaming if he thinks Bush will take the blame. This baby is all his.

  21. joe cantwell Says:

that’s not all, they were also invited to the after dinner orgy!

  22. Keith H. Says:

Two of the worst criminals this country has ever seen can’t be thrown in prison until they are impeached.

    Now get started.

  23. Marie Says:

Sure, the windowshade was raised a bit and let in a little light — Gonzo likes to operate in the dark, as he does Bush’s dirty work.
Of course he was angry; and Bush was ticked at him too because one of the guys in the inner circle blabbed and embarrassed the DOJ, Rove and Bush.
Tony Soprano gets pissed too when his soldiers fail to follow orders or step out of line.

  24. Devil's Advocate Says:

Gonzo the Bozo was angry because Mc Nulty exposed the extent of the WH machinations to subordinate the DOJ to the GOP and the Republican WH’s will.

Gonzo is a Bush toadie, always was, always will be. He’ll do anything that Rove tells him to do.

No wonder he was nominated as AG. Now, the Dems should have known better than approve the nomination of this Bush brownnoser.

The extreme focus/coverage of the Clinton impeachment vs. the complete silence on these numerous crimes by the MSM tells the complete story. Until we break up the media monoply in this great country then shit will happen and happen and happen, again and again!!

  26. HeckuvahJob Brownie Says:

As long as the Constitution allows the president to pardon criminals, undrlings will actuall be rewarded for breaking the law, as long as they remain loyal to the chief executive. Kind of obvious, isn’t it?

  27. Raven Says:

We are agonizing thru this administration precisely because Gerald Ford pardoned the same cockroaches who are now under Bush’s rug and behind the woodwork plotting and calculating.
Dick Cheney was Ford’s chief of staff, if I am not mistaken.
    Wormtongue himself.

  28. Michael C Says:

I guess some old memories were still kicking around inside Abu’s dementing cortex back then, only to evaporate at the Senate hearing. Bummer.

  29. kasinca Says:

Defund the war and Impeach Cheney, Dubya and then ride KKKarl Rove out of town on a rail, after we tar and feather his worthless, criminal, fat ass.

  30. Pity the Fools Says:

Karl has been banking on the fact that two impeachments in a row would be bad for the USA. So let the good times roll!

    Comment by GOPcurious —

It’s not the constitution’s fault that republicans abused the power to impeach. If bush and co aren’t impeached now it will look like lying, cheating and stealing are “standard practice” for everyone instead of just republicans.

  32. bob (not the hacker) Says:

Also, two wrongs don’t make a right.
It was wrong to impeach President Clinton, it’s wrong not to impeach bush.

  33. kasinca Says:

Joe Scarborough is waking up to the fact that the war in Iraq was wrong and it is lost and that it will be the demise of the GOP for an extended period in our history.

He estimates that the Democratic Party will take both houses, increase their majority, overwhelmingly, and take the White House. That is what they get for putting their faith in an untreated alcoholic spoiled rich boy who has a crooked son of a bitch for a brain and allowing them to run wild.

The GOP will pay for a long, long, time for their evil Bush Crime Family mistake.

  34. Peter Says:

I am so sick of a White House that thinks that its official actions are NOT “in the public sphere”. The governemnt is not a PRIVATE concern run for the benefit of those who win office; it is a PUBLIC entity held in trust for the benefit of all.

It is time for that basic concept to be strongly reinforced. It is time for impeachment.

  35. Proud Dem Says:

republicans would impeach a ham sandwich.

Comment by Republicans are the Fear and Smear Party

The ham sandwich would be, by far, smarter than any in the Repugnant party now anyway.

  36. NCBlueneck Says:

Since these Rethugs were scheming their electoral victory in 2000 while impeaching Clinton for trivial matters, my inner Macchiavelli says they were counting on “two impeachments in a row not being good for the country”. I may be wrong. My tinfoil hat may be tuned to the wrong frequency. “What is the frequency, Kenneth!” I think they knew they were going on an eight year crime spree, and were counting on the above sentiment giving them extra insullation.

  37. bushiesinjail Says:

Just wait how pissed off Gonzales is going to be when the firing of Todd Graves and 3 assistant USA, as well as the suspicious deaths of 2 assistant USA’s on the Medicare Fraud case brought by Samuel Lipari against Novation LLC. This is going to blow up in their face.
