The Iraqi duty extension: Clunk!!
.
It seemed odd that the three month extension was announced prior to briefing the troops. It also seemed odd that it had no political content attached to it. It made me wonder if Gates had his own agenda and was walking outside the politically lockstep Bush administration.

Now I learn that the extension, which highlights a broken military and more Bush/Cheney incompetence, was leaked before it could be tuned up in the GOP propaganda shop.

I absolutely love it. It makes me laugh.

The briefing to the troops should be,"Sorry guys that we have to increase the chance of your tired asses' dying by 25% on this rotation but we've screwed this occupation thing up from the beginning and well, we're sorry."

The result of the leak appears to be the odd victory for truth over the Soviet style propaganda apparatus pronouncement we have come to expect from 'reality central', i.e. the White House.

"It's all the fault of the people that are trying to bring you back home," they could have said.

Oh yes, Murtha knows best!! It's always easy to sit and pontificate from the Congress, without an iota of appreciation of what goes into the very adult task of governing a country or without an ounce of respect for the offices of the President and Vice President.

Merlin - You are one funny guy! My political, social and moral philosophies are well documented here and on the couple of conservative blogs. To recap for you (and with apologies to the Leftist comrades who have read this synopsis before):

My dad, a staunch Irish-Catholic and my mother, an Austrian Jewess (who was able to escape Austria as a child with her family 2 months after the Nazis occupied that country) were quite conservative. This was unusual in their social circle as the majority of their friends were flaming liberals. Weekends and evenings were filled with debates and witty repartee in which politics, art, the law and social justice were the ordinary topics.

As children, my siblings and I soaked up this atmosphere. We saw friends argue, make counter points, embrace and leave. And the next occasion would be a repeat performance on a different topic.

As a "rebellious" and independent teenager, I sided with the liberals, who I viewed as compassionate and caring. My father died suddenly at a young age - I was the oldest of five kids. My mother was the bravest person I knew - even though we agreed on very little.

Politically, my first party registration was the Socialist Workers Party. Within a short time I began my brief 2 year stint as a member of the Peace and Freedom Party. Realizing Dems (while more moderate than I would have liked) was the Party of national consequence, I became a Democrat.

I graduated from college determined to go to law school. I was recruited to join the US Navy, and became a criminal defense attorney in JAG. In the meantime, I met my future husband, Prince Valiant, while I was interviewing him as a character witness for a client of mine. He was conservative, handsome, and honourable. Naturally, I couldn't stand him!

He was impressed with my "unflappability" in the courtroom and "my zeal" - and the rest is history. We argued politics and got married.

As a civilian, I received a thank you note from the late, corrupt former DNC Chairman Ron Brown, (President Clinton's Commerce Secretary) thanking me for something I had done for the Party. He asked that Iwork on a particular fundraising effort. A few days later, it hit me that for all the time, money and rhetoric that liberals had poured into urban centers, the result was self-congratulations with little, if any, meaningful progress. Things never seemed to get done but a healthy dose of "we care more" was always handy. I was sick of hearing excuses for behaviours which contributed to physical and moral bankruptcy. I had known too successful people - some wealthy, some not - who had overcome lifes' vissitudes due to wonderful parents and perserverance. I realized Dems did not want people to pull themselves out of their ruts - they needed them kept in manageable poverty. I became a Republican a week later.

I am pro-America - I owe this country (with all her flaws) my allegiance and loyalty. To have a place that allows people the freedom to succeed or fail is a testament of her greatness.

I believe in a strong national defense as we have had war declared on the West, and the US in particular, by Islamic radicals.

I believe in God and firmly believe that our nation has been blessed in large measure due to our defense of Israel and the Jews.

I am pro-life and anti-death penalty. (I fear irreparable mistakes and have assisted the Innocence Project.) I believe my clients deserve a zealous defense to assure their rights are not abridged. I am death qualified and (merciful God) have not had a client receive the death penalty.

I think that gun control is a great excuse for criminals to be the only one on the block "carrying".

I think it is criminal the way the ACLU (to which I formerly belonged) sued the Reagan administration to release homeless mentally ill people from hospitals. (And they call themselves compassionate - that is some twisted compassion!)

I think parenting is a lost art. Sadly, too many children these days have no clue how to entertain themselves and erroneously believe the universe revolves around them.

I love polite kids and Girl Scout Cookies. Little League, BBQ's and arguing politics are favourite pastimes.

I love charities and think generational welfare is a crime. I think that lowering the bar for people is patronizing and gives them an excuse to fail. I think most people are good and have the ability to rise to reasonable levels of their own high expectations.

So, not surprisingly, you are wrong about most of your assumptions about me.

Goood night............

Off topic but anybody on the West Coast who wants to see a good trial scene on "enemy combatants" at Gitmo should watch Boston Legal on ABC tonight.

There is something seriously wrong with a reichwinger who claims to be a female. Wingers are seriously flawed individuals and a female is really flawed to want to be in that category.

vv seems female to me but a seriously flawed female. She is a pathological liar with delusions of grandeur. She believes herself to be intellectually "gifted" however it is more a case of believing her own press.
