Six months:»

Length of backlog veterans face when filing disability claims with the Veterans Affairs Department — “about six times longer than is typical in the private sector.” VA records show that “pending disability claims with the VA take an average of 177 days to process,” but “for some, the wait time is almost a year.”

And WHAT do these veterans do in the meantime? I have yet to figure out how the Republicans have sold themselves to the military as the party that takes care of them.

So much better to leave it to the private sector, where companies like Cheneyburton and Bushtel will do a F-A-A-A-A-R superior job (of making profits for themelves…).

  3. Raven Says:

Ignoring them, and hoping they will die before having to pay out a disability is how the current regime wishes to “take care of them”…

Not only have some veterans bought this S*#t, the Repubs have no problem whatsoever shafting thier own soldiers. Breath-taking in its ugliness, no?

A perfect argument against socialized/federalized healthcare. Governments are inefficient, bloated bueracratic nightmares and I don’t wany my, or my child’s health to be dependent on how efficient and capable a government employee is. Been to the driver’s license office lately?

It’s what they like to call “Negative cashflow minimization” and it give corp execs a hardon just to think about it.

  7. Apple Says:

It is my opinion that the Bush administration is trying to break or disable all government departments in order to privatize them. Sadly, I think government can do a better job in many instances because they do not have a profit motive. Have you checked executive pay lately?

Is this why Repukes want to kill them over there so we don’t have to take care of them here?

How about sending them back for another tour until their luck runs out. For the Rethuglicans that’s just fiscally prudent.

“starve gov’t until it’s so small you can drown it in the bathtub” G. Norquist

And then patent and privatize every damn thing you can lay your hands on or dream up. If it ain’t for profit, it’s no damn good.

Everything about this war gets sucked into the hellish vortex of the Friedman Factor.

repugs know that the most ‘cost effective’ option for treatment of long term disease or disability is early death of the patient. every dollar spent on patient care means one less dollar available to war profiteers.

That tactic IS in practice, as we speak.

    Badmoodman,

If a Friedman Unit is 6 months, then Bush has about 3 Friedman units left in his Presidency. (Unless Impeachment goes forward.)

Boner is saying reveiw Plan A end of September, or 1 Friedman Unit.
Plan B would come in, oh, about 6 Friedman Units. (F.U.)

I think it’s clear here that Bush is saying FU to our troops 2-6 x month.

Didn’t the VA just award themselves hefty ( up to $33,000) bonuses?

Well Dick Morris on another thread implies that we’re using soldiers as chum to lure the terrorists to them in Iraq so they don’t come here.
However a terrorist plot was broken up this morning at Fort Dix. Six terrorists were going to shoot as many soldiers as they could. So much for only killing them over there.

Yes, and the good news is that the 6 in New Jersey were caught.
And they were caught by a vigilant citizen who watched the video that the terrorist suspects took to have a DVD made from.
(This speaks volumes for the level of intelligence of both the FBI, and the suspects.)
If we spent just a smidgin of the resources we spend in the Middle East on security at home, we wouldn’t have any worries about foreign terrorists.
That is of course, not counting the oil factor……
My point about sending troops back for repeated deployments is that they are, in the very least, not given enough time back home to recoup, and often have physical and psychological disabilities as well.

#4. Terrific question. I’ve been asking myself that for over 30 years. I’m retired AF and a proud FDR,AES,E. Mcarthy (scars from Chicago ‘68), liberal.

The officer corp I understand a bit, but the enlisted?…not so much. I entered in ‘72, retired in 94. The only Presidents that helped my, and my families, lifestyle were: Carter and Clinton. I haven’t researched the numbers, but I accept the fact that the Repub presidents had higher Defense budgets…..The problem is they were for “toys”. The only significant pay raises I received, the only upgrades in housing and other benefits (GI bill, COLA’s, etc) were from Carter and Clinton.

If you can help me understand WHY, I would appreciate it.

WRONG> I was on SS disability in the private sector. I returned to work for a long long time. I got sick with the same thing again and reapplied. It took FIVE AND A HALF YEARS to get a decision at SS with a previous Court Awarded title of disability. Soldiers got nothing on me~
