“I think there will be a criminal case that will come out of this,” said fired U.S. attorney John McKay in a meeting with Seattle Times journalists. “This is going to get worse, not better,” he added. McKay also described when he first became concerned that politics were creeping into the Justice Department:
McKay said he began to have concerns about politics entering the Justice Department in early 2005, when Gonzales addressed all of the country’s U.S. attorneys in Scottsdale, Ariz., shortly after he took over as attorney general.
“His first speech to us was a ‘you work for the White House’ speech,” McKay recalled. ” ‘I work for the White House, you work for the White House.’ ”
McKay said he thought at the time, “He couldn’t have meant that speech,” given the traditional independence of U.S. Attorneys. “It turns out he did.”
He looked around the meeting room and caught the eyes of his colleagues, who gave him looks of surprise at Gonzales’ remarks. “We were stunned at what he was saying.”

I never thought I would miss John Ashcroft.
May 9th, 2007 at 5:35 pmAnd yet no one said shit. For 2 friggin years. Bastards, the lot of ‘em.
May 9th, 2007 at 5:39 pmGonzales makes Asscroft look like a saint. And Asscroft was a demon.
May 9th, 2007 at 5:40 pmGonzo has NEVER known who he’s supposed to work for.
May 9th, 2007 at 5:40 pmWhat group of maniacal cultists did we elect? We must throw these guys out.
May 9th, 2007 at 5:41 pm“We were stunned at what he was saying.â€
In retrospect, no one can be stunned by what he said. I wonder if Gonzo remembers that meeting?
May 9th, 2007 at 5:42 pmBut Bill Clinton did……..
May 9th, 2007 at 5:44 pmHis name is John McKay - not Paul McKay
May 9th, 2007 at 5:44 pmHey, TP, isn’t it “John” McKay?
May 9th, 2007 at 5:44 pmNone of them said shit for 2 years because they’re Repukes.
They were willing to let it slide, until they found out Gonzales meant what he said.
When heads started rolling (and its at least TEN US Attorneys, not eight), then they had to choose between supporting the rule of law or continuing to blindly support the Chimpy regime.
That’s what took them so long. Repukes have a difficult time making this choice, and a lot of them chose wrongly.
Remember, Gonzo sacked 10 attorneys for not being “good Bushies”… that means the others are all corrupt.
May 9th, 2007 at 5:45 pmMaybe Gonzo is drinking and doing drugs with Dubya? Just a thought.
May 9th, 2007 at 5:45 pm#2. Of course they didn’t say Cheney. They were loyal Bushies or at least expected to be. How can we expect anyone to say Cheney about this and keep their jobs? Remember a USA job is supposed to be a springboard for many better placements in the future.
May 9th, 2007 at 5:46 pmGonzo and Wolfie are probably getting hammered every night.
They both know they are in deep shit.
I hope they both resign or get fired.
May 9th, 2007 at 5:48 pmWatergate: part deux.
May 9th, 2007 at 5:49 pm“His first speech to us was a ‘you work for the White House’ speech†— How has this NEVER come out before? Can/will other DoJ attorneys - not currently part of the fired 8/9 - verify such a statement? Will any of them have the guts to do so if it is true? Because this? Is against the law. Can you imagine if an Attorney General appointed by a Democratic President had made such a statement? What would Republicans say?
May 9th, 2007 at 5:49 pm“I think there will be a criminal case that will come out of this,†said fired U.S. attorney John McKay
Have you not been paying attention? Impeachment is off the table, Karl Rove goes free while Scotter Libby takes the fall, Paul Wolfowitz is still head of World Bank, etc., etc., etc.
Abu Gonzo is untouchable…
May 9th, 2007 at 5:53 pmWhat’s that Marine hierarchical code of loyalty - Unit, Corps, God, Country.
The freaking invisible man, the Marines and party affliliation have more priority than our country to these people.
No wonder 99% of them are Republicans.

Not remembering is not an acceptable excuse, and I sure hope the Senators don’t accept that kind of answer tomorrow.
May 9th, 2007 at 6:04 pmRepukian Mafia at full throttle. They are organized criminals, including their supporters. The repukians who vote for them know that they are criminals and want it that way, they want to control all departments of the government so they can pillage the money vault, they want to control what you think and do, they want to force their non-existant invisible being on you too. They are all in it together, not for country or laws, they are in it for their sick party of corruption.
Just look at what our dumb ass trolls post daily, like Valiant Douche Bag and Patti 1″, they are brainwashed hatful lowlife trailer living scum sucking subhuman idiots, it is one big mafia.
Hating the Repukian Mafia daily

Yeah as long as the same democrats that rolled over like submissive dogs in the 109th keep the same attitude through the 110th, we have a big problem re-establishing Rule of Law.
Impeachment has to be on the table. If they do not use the Constitutional remedy to rid our country of these crooks, they are complicit to those crimes.
May 9th, 2007 at 6:08 pmAs VP of Torture and Purges, Gonzales was simply doing his job by reminding the at-will employees who happen to be attorneys that DOJ is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BushCorp(TM) and that insubordinate acts such as prosecuting business partners and clients for criminal activity would not be tolerated!
May 9th, 2007 at 6:11 pmAnd yet no one said shit. For 2 friggin years. Bastards, the lot of ‘em.
Comment by Punchy — May 9, 2007 @ 5:39 pm
This is what’s been pissing me off. The attorneys, George Tenet, other ex-administration officials who are now writing books and blabbing on the talk shows, they all kept quiet at the time. Not one of them, apparently, has a conscience, or honor, or integrity, or real patriotism. If any of the attorneys had spoken up about this meeting, Gonzales might have been ousted back then. If George Tenet had spoken up about (supposedly) Cheney misusing what Tenet said about ’slam dunk’, or had tried to convince the WHIGs that they were way off course, maybe this war wouldn’t have happened, or, at least, maybe fewer soldiers would have died. These people are scum.
May 9th, 2007 at 6:17 pmWhat is wrong with these people. Why were they willing to sit there and watch this country being destroyed? I include Dick Durbin in this batch. He said that the Democrats on the intelligence committee knew that Bush was telling the US public something they were not seeing in the intelligence. Well, if I was Mr. Durgin, I would have told the public that they were being sold a bill of goods. I wouldn’t tell them what intelligence we were seeing because that would violate federal law. But I don’t think there is any law against telling the public that they are being played as fools.
I wonder how these people sleep at night knowing what they have done. May god have mercy on their souls, they are going to need it.
May 9th, 2007 at 6:23 pm24,
I understand your frustration, but remember, these people are Republicans. They only care about themselves, so they were perfectly willing to turn a blind eye while others suffered. It wasn’t until they were personally affected by losing their jobs or were in a position to profit on a book deal that they blew the whistle.
We just have to expect Republican behavior from Republicans.
May 9th, 2007 at 6:24 pmWar4Sale, I see your point, but, still, couldn’t ONE of them have been a real human with morals? Yeah, yeah, Republiskunks, I know.
BTW, is anyone else having trouble with the italics here? I can’t seem to make it work anymore.
May 9th, 2007 at 6:29 pmGonzales is such a shoe shine boy! The Bush’s used him as a token Mexican and he actually thinks he’s a close friend. This guy is the biggest butt kisser in history. Just because a guy gives you a job, there’s no reason to loss your creditability and honesty for him. If my boss asks me to break the law, there’s no way I’m doing it. But apparently Gonzo is a dedicated butt kissin moron who doesn’t realize that Bush won’t be President forever. He will have to get a real job after he leaves by being fired for resigning. I suppose as long as he can turn his back on Mexican Americans and kiss up to the man, he’s satisfied.
He reminds of the house slave that got treated better than regular slaves, but was still a slave. He might get a chance to be in the master’s house and drive the horse buggy, but he’s nothing but a house boy.
May 9th, 2007 at 6:34 pmAnd all along I thought they worked for me, John Q. Public. Last time I make that mistake.
May 9th, 2007 at 6:58 pmJaneESchneider, not only italics, but blockquote, bold, etc. haven’t worked for me for about 2 weeks now. Others reporting problems with formatting too. TP: PLEASE correct this problem.
May 9th, 2007 at 7:06 pmBTW, is anyone else having trouble with the italics here? I can’t seem to make it work anymore.

Not a single problem, my dear. TP has it’s favorites…. :P
I wonder why they wrok for some people, but not others. The buttons disappeared on me a couple days ago, but they returned. It’s a mystery…
Are you on your computer at home? I hope… :)
May 9th, 2007 at 7:13 pmFor the latest news, document dumps, email archives, hearing transcripts and other essential materials in the firings of U.S. attorneys, see:
May 9th, 2007 at 7:15 pm“The U.S. Attorney Scandal Documents.”
This is precisely why Gonzo is suggesting that Congress “move on” - he knows there’s something HUGE coming down the pike and it will mean criminal charges against him personally in all of this. Sure, Gonzo….you’re the only one who’s going to be movin’ on and in a hurry!
May 9th, 2007 at 7:27 pmI agree wholeheartedly: AttorneyGate will be Watergate Redux and the fall of King George.
May 9th, 2007 at 7:28 pm#31 I haven’t been able to get any of the formatting to work on TP for weeks. I wonder if they realize that many of us are having the problem????
May 9th, 2007 at 7:28 pmAs McKay states to the Seattle Times, this will only get worse….much worse and criminal charges will come out of it against Rove and Gonzales. Those two will ultimately see prison time for all of this.
Besides, isn’t it a “double” obstruction of justice?? The first obstruction of justice is the actual firing for political reasons and their attempt to obstruct justice in the investigation of Republicans.
The second obstruction of justice could be launched against Gonzales right now as he refuses to furnish all of the missing emails.
Couldn’t Congress request obstruction of justice proceedings against all of the other Departments who are refusing to turn over the emails which were sent to them by Karl Rove using the RNC account?
We’ve clearly got “obstruction of justice” all over the place….in every cronies position….and throughout this entire administration happening right now. Let’s throw the book at the whole sorry lot of them. Good riddance to bad rubbish, as they say!
May 9th, 2007 at 7:33 pmImpeachment takes the heat off the cons before the election. Continue to watch the rats jump overboard and continue to overturn the stones covering up the corruption until the last sob is in jail. Impeachment would work in these crooks favor.
May 9th, 2007 at 7:45 pmThis is what happens when no one checks the goods when they are dropped at the door..
May 9th, 2007 at 8:33 pmThis is not some new behavior he took up after getting stuck in this position. He has been well fed, cared for and rewarded over the years for the exact same thing.
Just like the rest who were “brought on” years ago, trained and rewarded, they think they owe Where They Think They Are to who has been feeding, caring for and rewarding them all along.
When the stick gets thrown they run right after it.They don’t check to see if anyone is watching.
They know the treats are waiting and the food bowl is full.
Maybe someone should call SPCA.
Still don’t think people see that these guys were planning and placing people for the last generation. When the time came they were ready to attackevery aspect of the government agencies.
May 9th, 2007 at 8:45 pmThey knew exactly what they need to control to gain total control and how to eliminate any obstacles.
The whole process is to open the doors to the vault and keep them open until not only is all the gold gone but all the new gold doesn’t even make it.
Is it getting clearer?
Don’t get distracted. This is our watch now.
So how many of the fired U.S.A.’s were investigating corruption cases that were subsequently dropped? This is where the serious criminal charges are coming. Rove and the Republicans saw an opportunity to kill several birds with a stone… and way overreached.
May 9th, 2007 at 8:56 pmGreg Palast has 500 of Rove’s ‘missing’ emails.
Guess what?
Fifty of them contain illegal caging lists!
And then there’s the one with Sampson telling Rapepublican operatives to USE them.
http://www.opednews.com/ articles/ genera_greg_pal_070508_rfk_3a__rove_and_rove_.htm
It’s going to get a LOT hotter, Karl. The Rapepublican party is having a global climate change, and the tornado is coming for YOU.
May 9th, 2007 at 9:01 pmZooey, no computers at home yet. They’re arriving within the next week, but then we have to hook up with the cable company, blah, blah, blah. Wayne promises that we’ll be online by the end of the month at the latest. Can’t wait!
Uncle Ho, I’ve been having problems with the italics, etc., for about a week. Very annoying.
May 10th, 2007 at 10:31 amWait, Legal counsel in the American legal community might be held to account for legal violations.
But I thought there were no peer reviews; I thought the lawyers could do no wrong; I thought the standards of conduct mean attorneys could keep their head in the sand and do nothing about illegal activity.
But…but…but…
Lazy American lawyers are getting their due.
