Gonzales to Congress: Move on.

In his opening statement to be read at tomorrow’s House Judiciary Committee hearing, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales challenges Congress to “move on” past the U.S. Attorney scandal and allow “the Justice Department to focus on its mission: fighting crime.”

Well, that's mighty thoughty of ya Gonzo!

    Move on....that's a good one...heh!

  2. RUCerious Says:

How bout Congress challenging AlbertoVO5 to Hold Up, and tell the phucking truth about the criminal activity he's been up to lo these past few years...

  3. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

Me to Gonzales: Move out. That would help fight crime.

  4. kasinca Says:

El Fredo needs to answer the damned questions before they allow him out of the chamber. The committee is fighting crime, as well, his crimes.

  5. david Says:

    Impeach the bum.

  6. Peter Says:

I thought that the committee WAS investigating crime. It shouldn't move on until it has gotten answers.

  7. BuckarooBanzai Says:

In other words, Gonzo tells Congress, "I triple dog dare ya". I'm not confident that anything WILL happen. These criminals just keep calling Congress' bluffs.

  8. Tom3 Says:

Alberto is the one who needs to move on.

  9. kasinca Says:

I am not sure we want Gonzo to be gone, he keeps the crime family in the news...same with bubble boy...the more ignorant defiance he shows, the more nervous the congressmen and senators up for election next year get. They will begin throwing him overboard and it will not be long. Dubya and Gonzo are actually good for the Democratic Party.

Keep investigating until the cons want to impeach the sorry bastards.

  10. Christine in Atlanta Says:

Gonzales should have plenty of time for this (going by his own words, he's not so in the loop on what's going on at the Justice Dept, so they can manage fine without him). Oh please oh please may Congress do its job.

  11. Joe Says:

Mr. Gonzales: Move on back to Texas. That dang president will meet you there.

  12. Keith H. Says:

This guy takes the cake . . .

    Alfredo Garbonzo to the authorities:

"Just forget about what I've done and move on to your next issue . ."

    That's quite a defense !

  13. Marie Says:

    Ha, ha, ha,ha,ha, ha!
Gonzo "fighting crime"? Ha, ha, ha, ha.
They are more interested in the pursuit of hookers than actual criminals -- they need only look in the mirror, or observe who sits next to them if they are so interested in fighting crime.
    Defiling the Constitution.
    Installing judges for political purposes.
Rewriting laws to suit their own interests.

They are so funny! I bet he delivers this joke with a straight face too. Such a comedian!

  14. smafdy Says:

Sure...we'll move on...and we'll run your sorry criminal ass over in the process.

    Freekin'. Un. Be. Lieveable.

  15. MapleStreet Says:

This seems like the rather disingenous situation where a court defendant urges the judge to move on to other matters ??

Move on ? Was this Freudian slip for moveon.org ?

  16. KRank Says:

    More honest Abu G:

"I think we can all agree that I've stonewalled enough, and it's time for Congress to move on. You'll never get the goods on me and you know it."

  17. Tom3 Says:

    Is Alberto-VO5 GAY?

Only his hairdresser knows for sure!

  18. chimpeach Says:

allow “the Justice Department to focus on its mission: fighting crime.”

Here's a little crime-fighting tip for you, Albert. It will be a lot easier for you to focus on fighting crime if you and your little band of loyal Bushie incompetents would take a break from committing crimes. In fact, if you'd just tune out Karl Rove and stop doing his bidding, it could very well end up shaving a few years off of your sentence.

Making idiotic statements like the one above is not going to take the heat off of you. It might give you some temporary joy to insult the House and Senate Judiciary chairs, but you're only making it worse on yourself.

  19. mongo Says:

Yes, the first potential crime we'd like to investigate is the activity surrounding the firing of a number of US Attorneys.

  20. Jeb Says:

Maybe take a gander at the Hatch Act while you're back at fighting crime, Alberto. Flip through some caselaw on unlawful imprisonment too--some interesting stuff in there that could be pretty topical once you and Crony, Inc. are out of the picture.

  21. Buck Fush Says:

Fighting crime? FIGHTING CRIME !!! How do criminals fight crime, do they like punch each other in the shoulder real hard or something like that?

I was fighting crime but I can't recall how.

    Hating the Repukian Mafia daily

  22. selectively outraged liberal Says:

continue partisan witchhunting or start working on real issues faced by the American people? Sounds like good advice. Move on, Democrats.

  23. GOPcurious Says:

Gonzo should just go. He's costing GOP votes in 2008 and is an unnecessary distraction to Bush.

  24. Dabb Says:

The problem is the Justice Department hasn't been fighting crime...just creating crime. So does AG really think the Congress is gonna just "move on" so that he can create more crime?

  25. Willy Says:

What Gonzo meant: "Why, of course, only Democrats commit crimes. After all, Republicans talk to God."

  26. rfinca Says:

    Can't wait!

  27. gummitch Says:

What a maroon! "Move along here, nothing to see. The American people want you to let us get on with our business without any nosy parkers sniffing around. Just trust me on this!"

  28. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Impeding investigations into Republican corruption isn't a crime, it's just politics. After all, those attorneys were political appointees, and served at the pleasure of the President. The President represents those who voted for him (not all Americans). So investigating political opponents is what the Justice Department is supposed to do. And it's no crime to not investigate a crime, it's just politics.

So, now that Bush has his appointed, but not confirmed, "Loyal Bushies" in place for the 2008 election, we should just all go back home and watch TV. Big Bush will take care of His loyal subjects.

  29. chimpeach Says:

    #22 selectively outraged liberal

continue partisan witchhunting or start working on real issues faced by the American people? Sounds like good advice. Move on, Democrats.

    STFU

  30. Pete Bogs Says:

just get over it! I mean, come on... everyone does this stuff...

yeah, that's a good defense, Gonzo...

  31. Jade Sepolen Says:

In the Gonzales situation, one of the White Houses many secrets was exposed to the public. Perhaps more time should be spent “exposing” the secrets of the White House. For instance the members of the government agreed to fund and support the Millennium Development goals that will help bring an end to global poverty. However while the white house spends $300 billion a yea in Iraq, $19 billion is missing from the funding to end starvation and malnutrition worldwide. Groups such as the Borgen Project are working to bring government attention to see that the U.S. government holds up their end of the agreement.

  32. veritas Says:

What nerve? To presume that this is some "triviality" and that Congress should "move on" is the height of arrogance and delusion!

Gonzo is the one who clearly needs to "move on" unless/until he takes down the entire DOJ along with him. He's toxic at this point and is destroying his own party - the GOP. If I were a republican running for office , I'd be at the head of the line requesting his firing since it will be irrelevant for any republican to run for election with the weight of this ongoing and protracted scandal and ultimate court case spilling well into 08 as I see it.....gobbling up the entire GOP in it's wake.

This is THE only reason he's suggesting that Congress move on. In fact, there are criminal activities involved her and Congress has an obligation to the american people to bring everyone involved to justice....even if it takes forever.....one person at a time. No one involved in any scandal, particularly one within the sacred Dept. of Justice for goodness sakes, should be left off this hook.

Investigate every last one of the - indict them all - incarcerate those clearly in violation of the laws of this country.

  33. mongo Says:

#22 selectively outraged liberal --> Concern Troll

"continue partisan witchhunting or start working on real issues faced by the American people? Sounds like good advice. Move on, Democrats."

After 6 years of not assuming any oversight over the crimes and misdemeanors of the administration and their party cronies, I can understand why it appears as "partisan witchhunting."

Of course it isn't really. It's making up for lost time in working on the real issues faced by the American people when the party in power attempts to institutionalize one-party rule to subvert the constitution and true representative government.

    Ya dam troll...

  34. veritas Says:

#22 If it takes a bona fide "witch hunt" to right the wrongs committed by these frauds in our government, then so be it!! Whatever works! Whatever it takes to rid this country of the scum placed in high places who have squandered the respect of the american people. The american people have absolutely NO FAITH any longer in this government.....where's the help for Kansas?? No national guard and no machinery for the cleanup.....sounding a bit like the disgraceful response to Katrina??? What's changed?? Absolutely nothing! This country is tanked and it's finally showing up. Thanks to all Republicans and anyone who did vote for this fool we have running the show.

  35. Kryptik Says:

    Yeah....

We can really trust a department with this kind of scandal to 'fight crime'. Problem is, what crime is being fought? What crime is being ignored?

When you do something that creates doubt in the department that fights crime, you create doubt about the ABILITY for that department to fight crime. We can't trust these assholes to fight crime if they're criminals themselves.

  36. veritas Says:

I thought we were dealing with a "concern troll"....they're so easy to spot, aren't they? Freeze this dingbat out. They don't deserve the time of day.

  37. veritas Says:

Gonzo should be indicted for lying to Congress and obstruction of justice.....and since it's now "obstruction of justice within the department of justice" I think that makes it double indictable...haha!

  38. dono Says:

    fighting crime...heh.

    To AG
    Crime=Democrats;
    Democrats=Crime;
"get back to"=go back to sleep stupid Americans, go back to sleep and STFU...

  39. Crump's Brother Says:

"Please stop investigating my wrongdoing. I would hate to have you labeled as enemy combatants and tortured to within an inch of your life" - Gonzalez

  40. Spudge_Boy Says:

Move on? Yeah, we should move on to impeachment. I agree.

  41. chimpeach Says:

And there are more investigations of Gonzo, beyond the U.S. Attorney firings, that they haven't even gotten to, yet. Remember when the House Judiciary Committee was investigating the NSA wiretaps? They asked the DoJ Inspector General and Office of Professional Responsibility to look into the legality of the NSA wiretaps and decide if Gonzales had overstepped his bounds. The OIG and OPR closed their investigations, saying that they couldn't take it any further because they had been denied security clearances. Gonzales finally told the committee in a hearing that it was the White House who denied them the security clearances. Conyers wants to get Gonzales back in front of the committee to find out if he was the one who asked Bush to withhold the clearances (I'm guessing "yes".). He's going to have to wait his turn.

  42. tb Says:

"Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who!"

  43. Mr. President Says:

That on the real. Congress needs get up outta A. G.'s bizniz. Hey G., play on playa!

  44. Kiki Says:

I'm sure that will go over really well, don't you?

I'm so thankful that this Democratic Congress is doing their job! It's so much easier to teach my children how things are supposed to work now.

  45. Katie Says:

Right Gonzo. Move on, there's nothing here to see. Let him get back to "fighting crime". That should be to let him get back to fighting "Democratic crime". I DON'T THINK SO. I don't think they should let up until the Justice Department is "de-politicized". I think they need to do something to reinstate the eight US Attorneys who were fired and to clean out all of the unqualified Regent University children who are now working in the Justice Department.

  46. lunacy Says:

I think that is what many in Congress have been asking Gonzales to do: "Move on" and allow “the Justice Department to focus on its mission: fighting crime.”

Heed your own advice Gonzales. MOVE ON!

  47. Katie Says:

"continue partisan witchhunting or start working on real issues faced by the American people? Sounds like good advice. Move on, Democrats"

Is that anything like the partisan witch hunt the Republics went on about a failed real estate deal and a blowjob? I don't know, somehow I think this is way more serious. Clinton did not make all departments of the government into an extension of the Democratic party. Clinton did not hire only Democratic US Attorneys and then tell them to only look at Republic crime.

So tell me Mr. Genius, what are the "real issues" that Gonzales should be working on? Finding ways to disenfranchise more Democratic voters and rig the voting machines so that they can attempt to steal the next election?

  48. Zimzone Says:

Is, as Bush's new appointee states, Alberto lazy? Or is it just some Hispanics? 'Splain that to us, will you, Mr. President?

  49. ya Says:

they should "move on" the way congress "moved on" and help the clinton administration after they wouldnt let go of the fact that he had an intern under his desk

  50. BlueArkansas Says:

    On witch hunts:

If it floats, it must weigh the same as a duck. If it weighs the same as a duck, it must be made of wood, so....

Spin all ya want, trolls. This guy is a partisan crook, and Congress has him by the short curlies. I say yank away!

  51. WaltTheMan Says:

Gonzo can't fight crime, that would be self-defeating.

  52. War4Sale Says:

    Yes!

    Fight crime: Investigate AG Gonzales!

  53. JaneESchneider Says:

My answer to Gonzo is F*CK THAT NOISE!

  54. Uncle Ho Says:

In Gonzo's view, not being a loyal Bushie IS a crime.

  55. John Q. Public Says:

No more money for the Justice Department until Abu goes. It's that simple.

  56. kasinca Says:

If Gonzo is going after crime, he should be going after the Bush Crime Family, which he is a member.

  57. the republic of stupidity Says:

Alberto doesn't seem to understand that when Congress investigates him, they ARE fighting crime. Quite the D-oh momment, huh!

  58. NatteringNabob Says:

Congress is fighting crime, Gonzo: you.

  59. Jake Says:

You guys do realize the quotes “move on” and “the Justice Department to focus on its mission: fighting crime" are quoting the USA Today reporter's story, not Gonzales, right?

  60. Karim Says:

All right, Torquemada, let's see you fight crimne from prison.

  61. JosephW Says:

Dear Mr Gonzales: If you and your department hadn't been so involved in requiring the United States Attorneys act in matters that seem incredibly partisan in nature and allowed them to actually "fight crime" as THEY saw fit, we wouldn't need to be holding these hearings at all.

  62. PaulB Says:

"You guys do realize the quotes 'move on' and 'the Justice Department to focus on its mission: fighting crime' are quoting the USA Today reporter’s story, not Gonzales, right?"

Of course, dear. You do realize that it matters not one whit since that is an accurate summation of Gonzalez' remarks, right?

  63. Choclate Jesus loves anulingus Says:

    > So tell me Mr. Genius, what are the “real issues”

better yet, some right winger yelling "witch hunt" needs to explain what sort of thing or type of presidential activity would, in thier minds, justify a legitimate congressional investigation.

  64. Perry Logan Says:

"Move on. These are not the droids we're looking for."

  65. trippin Says:

We'll move on as soon as you're behind bars for obstruction of justice, you sonofabitch. You swore to uphold the Constitution -- and you've done nothing but destroy it for political purposes. After a speedy trial, you should be sentenced to hang by your neck until you are dead. Yes, you little filthy sonofabitch, it's that serious.

  66. Jake Says:

No, I don't believe "move on" was an accurate summation. Here's the CLOSEST Gonzales got to anywhere near those two words in his ACTUAL opening statement:

"I wish to extend that sentiment to the Committee as well. During the past two years, we have made great strides in securing our country from terrorism, protecting our neighborhoods from gangs and drugs, shielding our children from predators and pedophiles, and protecting the public trust by prosecuting public corruption. Recent events must not deter us from our mission. I ask the Committee to join me in that commitment and that re-dedication.

We must ensure that all the facts surrounding the situation are brought to full light. It is my sincere hope that today’s hearing brings us closer to a clearing of the air on the eight resignations.

That is why I intend to stay here as long as it takes to answer all of the questions the Committee may have about my involvement in this matter. I want this Committee to be satisfied, to be fully reassured, that nothing improper was done. I want the American people to be reassured of the same."
