National guard equipment levels lowest since 9/11.

“The Pentagon, bearing the brunt of criticism for shortfalls in National Guard supplies in the wake of last week’s devastating tornado in Kansas, acknowledged Wednesday that Army National Guard units currently had only 56 percent of their required equipment,” down from 75 percent prior to Sept. 11.

    Dear Mr. Resident,
May you be sucked up into a category 5 hurricane and dropped 900 miles away onto a type 1 incident forest fire only to be washed down the hill in a torrent of eroded mud and swept through a busted levee and deposited in the silt of the Gulf Coast dead zone.
    Sir.

  4. JPark says:

Mr. President, join up you pathetic faux patriot.

  5. EmilyD says:

Geeee I wonder where the equipment, and the money for new equipment went? Hmmm maybe Bush should look under the sofa like he did for WWDs?

  6. libra says:

Who was it, who said — quite recently — that all the equipment was there, just for Sibelius’s asking?

  7. Jay Randal says:

Bush wants the National Guard destroyed, because that way he can use Blackwater mercenary goons for disasters like Hurricane Katrina flooding New Orleans.

  8. Laura says:

Don’t you all feel “Safer at Home?” That’s what the Bush administration has been telling us all along, that we are safer at home. BULLSH*T!

  9. liz says:

I feel so safe with hurricane season starting and with that big storm already off the Georgia coast. Does anyone know if Trent Lott got his house rebuilt? Has Bush sat on the porch yet? Cause when the hurricanes come back this year, Mr. Lott’s house may blow away again…

At this point, a small Latin American country could easily invade and defeat the U.S.A. Well done, Republicans!

sry that has just been haditha clearified. sorry

  12. Dr. S says:

    It’s all Kathleen Sebelius’ fault.

  13. Jake says:

For the record, I do feel safer than I did on 9/11. I was sure there would be another spectacular terrorist attacks in the U.S.

  14. Kate Henry says:

And I feel so much safer. I am impressed with what Bush has done to make us safe. Half the manpower and equipment we will need in order to deal with an attack or disaster in our country is in Iraq. A disaster just waiting to happen. And it did happen in Kansas. I almost puked last night when I saw people from the town blown away by the tornado kissing Bush. I don’t think I will ever understand the mindset of the people in our heartland. They consistently vote against their own best interests to save an unborn child (who once born they can care less about) and protect us from those dangerous gays.

  15. Zimzone says:

Gov. Sebelius was right, Tony Snow was wrong.

I realize Snow’s job is covering Bush’s ass, but he lied, again, to all of us.

Tornado season is just beginning. Hurricane season is just starting.
We’ll see this over & over again, with Snow still lying about resources.
‘Formal request’, my ass. We don’t even have a process established that fits that descriptor!

Does anyone else out there feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day?
You know, waking up every morning, seeing the same routine & lies day after day after day…

  16. Brian says:

Your state and home could be next. Our equipment is wasting away in the Iraqi desert for a people who don’t even want us in their country. Both their parliament and their people want us gone. We’re forcing an occupation on them, while leaving our homeland unable to deal with disasters. Bush apologists will just put their head in the sand, but their home could be next. The smoke from all the wild-fires were so strong here in FL, you couldn’t even breathe outside the other day. Our state didn’t have the equipment to deal with all of the fires according to our Republican Governor. Now, hurricane and tornado season are here.

Saddam posed ZERO threat to us. Saddam had no WMD, and no long range missiles or weapons. What DOES pose a threat to us are all these disasters. THAT is what is killing Americans, not Saddam’s non-existant WMD.

  17. Kay says:

Things are ripe for another disaster bigger than anything we’ve seen before. This country is so ill prepared. But, let’s continue to rebuild Iraq.
