Reid writes Bush over Wolfowitz.

By Nico Pitney on May 9th, 2007 at 7:20 pm

Reid writes Bush over Wolfowitz.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Sens. Schumer, Durbin, and Murray write President Bush: “[T]he troubles relating to Mr. Wolfowitz have thrust the Bank into an historic crisis, which is jeopardizing the Bank’s ability to garner support from member countries and, by extension, the Bank’s ability to perform its fundamental purpose of alleviating poverty.”

Mr. President, we are very concerned that the window of opportunity is closing fast for the United States to show leadership to resolve this crisis without undermining the Bank or the U.S. leadership role in it. The Bank’s Board may feel compelled to vote on the future of Mr. Wolfowitz’s tenure as President, an unprecedented step. We do not believe the Bank’s mission or U.S. interests would be advanced by such a vote. We urge you to take decisive action quickly to bring this crisis to a close.

  1. Tao says:

Oh, he’s already taken decisive action. He’s the decider after all, and what he decides can never be wrong. The little Cheney on his shoulder told him so.

  2. Rebel in CA says:

He no longer can take decisive action because he is not the decider anymore; he is now the “Commander Guy”

  3. Zooey says:

He must take “command” of the situation.
    No decidering! Heh.

  4. WaltTheMan says:

As his administration unfurls, I think more and about the old silents and early radio – like – Charlie Chaplin, the Keystone Kops, Laurel and Hardy, Fibber McGee and Molly plus Amos and Andy (KRove as the Kingfish.). I guess I could also bring up The Great Train Robbery.

  5. Buck Fush says:

But what the Decider decides on will be the wrong decidering of what is decided. (hehe)

    Hating the Decider daily

  6. Bob says:

The only difference here is the international outcry over the corrupt, ineffective, and delusional bush appointee. It’s no surprise that he’s saying the same sort of ‘I still have great confidence in so-and-so who continues to be effective, blah, blah, blah’. Bush doesn’t have the competence to appoint competent people to this or any post.

  7. gummitch says:

He didn’t say Decider, he said Deciduous. Sheesh. Like a tree. Or a bush. Or a shrub.

Or a burning bush, which is what worries me. After all, God chose Him (er, him) to be President. Eventually, one of these little problems is going to cause him to snap. Like a twig.

The irony is that if this Administration ever made an ethical, moral decision like dumping Wolfie, or Fredo, or admitting that the whole Katrina episode was a f-up of the first water, they might gain a little credibility on other fronts. And a little room to maneuver. Instead, they obstinately refuse to admit fault or flaw. It’s not only immoral, it’s downright stupid.

The most amazing thing is to watch the brain dead trolls, the apologists and enablers of this total failed untreated alcoholic. Each day the boast of the scandals that the crime family has gotten away with as if it is a badge of honor. The 28% group is the lowest form of life in the USA and maybe the world. These morally flawed idiots deserve to be in Iraq fighting the war of their failed leader.

  11. Saywho says:

“If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their money, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them (around the banks), will deprive the people of their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.” — Thomas Jefferson

  12. Karim says:

    Bush is an idiot.

  13. Sam Thornton says:

“…the Bank’s ability to perform its fundamental purpose of alleviating poverty.”

I don’t get this. The World Bank routinely imposes draconian economic measures on countries it “assists” which nearly always result in widespread business collapses and creation of widespread poverty. Witness the 1997 collapse of East Asian economies which the World Bank is widely credited with triggering and worsening.

That’s why I think Wolfowitz should stay on or, if he’s replaced, let it be someone of his caliber, like Jeff Gannon. Let’s kill this turkey before it craps on another fragile economy again.

  14. Jay Randal says:

World Bank helps make poor nations even poorer, but nonetheless Wolfowitz must be replaced > PERIOD.

  15. loretta says:

time to face facts–the World Bank is now a black hole where money is just sucked in, it serves no purpose except to reward Wolfowitz’ complicity in Bush/Cheney crimes.

  16. Pete Bogs says:

leadership – now there’s an idea! Decider Bush has decided to dig his nails in and just let bodies like the DOJ and the World Bank be weakened, rather than suggesting his own poor candidates step down…
