...and whoever left the comment about "why try, it is useless, Bush will just veto it." That is the most unAmerican thing that I have read. It is people who stand by and do nothing because they feel they are useless or because they are lazy who allow dictators to take over and rule their countries! That is not what America is about. We have a system in place that offers accountability to all branches of government. Bush does not respect that system, but that is not an excuse to sit idly by and do nothing. Right now, a bill from Congress is the only hope that we have to end this mess. I only wish that they would have the balls to override Bush's veto and show him that the American people rule this country.. not him!

I agree with Bruce Gorton. Sadly, I too was an American who bought into the Republican mudslinging campaign for far too long. Now, I am left thinking how great the days were when our biggest worry was that the president might be having an extra marital affair. Those were the good old days....
I tried to give Bush the benefit of the doubt when this all started even though I never felt comfotable with it. Time has proven that my insticts were correct and that a president REALLY would lie to bring our country into an unneccessary war. Now that the lies have been proven, all of this "stay the course" mess is just like beating a dead horse. I feel like Bush does not care how many good Americans have to die as long as he gets to be right. The sad thing is that he will never be right and more American's are dying every day because he refuses to admit he was wrong.
In regards to the comment by valientthehater yes, the terrorist did learn from Vietnam. Sadly, we obviously did not. Donald Rumsfield LOST vietnam and Bush put him in chatge of Iraq. We lost Vietnam because we went where we never should have been and 50,000 American's died and in the end we accomplished nothing. Iraq will be the same, I only hope that 50,000 American's do not have to die before we realize that. My father-in-law did three tours in Vietnam and has watched his daughter and his son, my husband, fight in Iraq. They all agree that the paralells between these two wars are numerous and scary. As hard as it is for veterans to admit that the lives lost have been lost in vain, they do so... with tears in their eyes for the tragedy of it.

That's absolutely true. But the organized left wing was not as strong from 1960s - 1994 as they are now, and the Democratic politicians didn't need to pander to them.

Even President Clinton didn't believe in the homosexualization of America when he instituted the vital DADT policy.

I'm glad in hindsight that the GOP lost the Senate as well as the house. As proven today, the foolish Democrats in Congress can't even cut and run properly.

The only solution Democrats have to any domestic issue is taxing "the rich". Well, they aren't very good at successfully doing so. Look at Johnson and his AMT.

And then you've got that clown Max Baucus, who can't even comply with his own tax laws successfully.

What a guy to head the Senate finance Committee!

The Dems held congress for 40 years. The Republicans? 12.

Further, in 2006 they didn't lose a single seat. That one is unprecedented.

Your party is synonomous now with corpse waving. You have waved the bodies of the victims of 9/11 so much, that people no longer believe that you aren't happy about 9/11. You have celebrated a national tragedy so thoroughly, that Americans now believe, sincerely believe you are happy it happened.

Katrina was a crystal moment for the Republicans, it showed the precise cost of Republican policies to the entire nation. It was not a pretty picture.

Iraq, is a constant drain on America, a drain with no purpose save to create trouble. Saddam was contained, he was not a serious threat, but instead of going after Osama Bin Laden, who was a real threat, your Republican government went after Saddam.

Your president closed down the branch of the CIA dedicated to hunting and killing Osama for a year. This was AFTER 9/11.

Your Republican Party has failed. It is done, you offer nothing but hate and the meaningless drivel you call moral issues the rest recognise for simply being an excuse to do nothing.

I do remember those times, yeah. Politics swings back and forth through time.

Trying to make our party irrelevant? Good luck with that. Lefties claimed the same thing after winning 8 Senate seats in 1986. America has proven, repeatedly, that they aren't interested in the politics of Northeastern liberals, and they will do so again.

And for all your approval rating whining, Bush is still higher than Reid and company's 22%. That's gotta leave a mark.

Remember when you guys held Congress, and the Senate wasn't a tie?

Your party is losing support rapidly. Frankly, you are one election away from irrelevance and you guys know it. Yeah, you still have the same basic crowd who believe biblical creationism is as valid as evolution, yeah you still have the science bashers and lousy economic weathermen, but you have lost everyone else.

It isn't just the Iraq war which is killing you, it isn't just the deficit, it isn't just Katrina, and it isn't just Bush. What is killing you is the fact that Americans have grown numb to the way you play politics, they don't care about that mud you are slinging.

The days of America caring about whether Bill got a blowjob are over. The days of America caring what you think about Al Gore's socks, are over. America has found itself in the middle of a series of crisis caused by your party's ramphant laziness, negligence and incompetence and it no longer cares that you might feel a little bit offended.

The left is offering solutions, all you have to offer, is "Stay the same course which has gone badly wrong so far."

Maybe that’s why so many Republicans have left your party in the last 3 years?

Who are these Republicans?

Senator Lieberman went from your Vice Presidential candidate to being exiled by the moonbats in the course of 4 years. I guess that's the price for believing in the defense of our nation.

Gee, I wonder why Republicans have won 7 or the past 10 presidential elections.

Yep. Even the current politicians had change. Al Gore used to be pro life, pro family, and pro military defense.
Now he’s a propagandist with his GW fear campaign.
How the mighty have fallen.

Pro-life? OxyMoron for you wingnuts that believe in guns and the death penalty.

Pro-family? You mean pro-misogyny, and homophobic.

Pro-military? You mean so full of nationalist rhetoric, and blinded by hate, st*pidity and rage that you'll destroy the troops out of ego and ignorance while claiming to support them?

I'd say how the mighty have fallen, but your political party's leaders haven't been mighty since, well, never.

I didn’t leave the Democratic Party. The party left me.
Ronald Reagan
What happened to men like Woodrow Wilson?
Comment by m12 — May 10, 2007 @ 12:25 pm

That's true. The Democratic Party became inclusive, and stop being misogynistic and racist - whereas the Republican Party became all of those things. RayGun is right - the Republican Party became everything that the *image* of Lincoln was against...

Maybe that's why so many Republicans have left your party in the last 3 years? Why are you still there - someone who's a big enough, and st*pid enough redneck has to stay behind to turn out the lights?

Why are you still there – someone who’s a big enough, and st*pid enough redneck has to stay behind to turn out the lights?

Yep. Even the current politicians had change. Al Gore used to be pro life, pro family, and pro military defense.

Now he's a propagandist with his GW fear campaign.

How the mighty have fallen.

Well, it's the Republicans who don't know how to conduct a war. Any commander who would send his troops into a No Man's Land to be shot at from either side should be court martialed. It's counter-productive and weakens the ability of the armed forces to respond to a genuine enemy.

ValianttheVenushater and Patrick1trickpony had better give this "cowards and appeasers" line a rest. It's getting stale. They know that what they really mean is that they'd rather murder young American girls and boys to protect their investment portfolios. Their hearts are as hardened as Pharaoh's when Moses cried "Let my people go!"

There is simply no relation between the Democrat Party of FDR, Truman and Kennedy and this collection of cowards and appeasers.

sad, sad that our politicians are playing politics with our troops.

The Muslim terrorists know that Democrats don't have the stomach to defend America. They are watching and learning.

As the Muslim terrorists have said continuously, they learned from Vietnam and how the media treated Vietnam and how the Democratic Party treated Vietnam.

Democrats are the defet America party. They are an embarrasment.

FDR, JFK, Harry Truman must be puking their brain outs seeing what a pathetic party their party has become.
