DeLay Calls Liberals Nazis, Then Claims ‘Only’ Liberals Make Nazi References
Writing on his blog this morning, ex-Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX) accuses liberals and “the radical left” of being the “only” people who enjoy “likening the United States to Nazi Germany,” ignoring his own past comments comparing American liberals to “the ranks of scoundrels like Hitler.”
Noting a recent speech by Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which the head of state apparently compared U.S foreign policy to that of the Third Reich, DeLay hypocritically launched into an attack on liberals:
Odd, I only thought it was the radical left in our own nation which enjoys likening the United States to Nazi Germany. Apparently this disease has spread to Russia as well.
As recently as last month, DeLay made comments comparing American liberals to Nazis. On April 10, appearing on WERS radio in Boston, DeLay claimed that the process that saw him indicted for money laundering, which would be the American legal system, “is the same process” that led to the Holocaust: “it may be six million jews, it may be indicting someone on laws that don’t exist, but it’s the same philosophy, it’s the same world view,” said DeLay.
DeLay also compared liberals to Nazis in his recently released book, “No Retreat, No Surrender”:
“I believe it was Adolf Hitler who first acknowledged that the big lie is more effective than the little lie, because the big lie is so audacious, such an astonishing immorality, that people have a hard time believing anyone would say it if it wasn’t true. You know, the big lie — like the Holocaust never happened or dark-skinned people are less intelligent than light-skinned people. Well, by charging this big lie” — that DeLay violated campaign-finance laws in Texas — “liberals have finally joined the ranks of scoundrels like Hitler.”
DeLay is demonstrating a Gonzales-like memory when he claims that Nazi analogies are an exclusive tool of liberals. In fact, DeLay and many of his conservative allies, are more than happy to make Nazi references if it suits their political aims.

A civil servant and an MP's researcher were today jailed for leaking a secret memo about a meeting on Iraq between Tony Blair and George Bush.

I recently copied a number of different quotes from Hitler, changed "Jew" to "Muslim" and "jewish" to "islamofascist" and then posted the same quotes on three different right-wing websites, posing as a republican. I was amazed at how many people agreed with me. I am not saying that Bush is Hitler, by any means, but there are some striking comparisons.

May 10th, 2007 at 5:04 pmIt's pretty amazing to me that comparisons to Nazis get thrown around as much as they do. They were a blight on the history of humanity. That's a big thing to think about. You are hardpressed to find someone that doesn't thin the Final Solution is One Of The Worst Things That Has Ever Happened(tm). We're talking about things like starving millions in PRC and the Ukraine, Mongol hordes, Antietam, the devastation wreaked on Amerinds, etc. There are some bad things that have occurred. But to compress the extermination of more than 6 (7? 8? Go ahead make it 4, it's still awful) million people into essentially three years is just flabbergasting. It took a generation for the Mongols to get through that many. The Nazis devised a centralized and well-honed plan to kill and process millions of persons because they didn't like them in the abstract. It is difficult to try and comprehend this.
People in general toss around the Nazi comparisons too much. I get a little peeved even by things like the "Soup Nazi." It's just too flippant. Ars Technica used "Ihre papieren, bitte" the other day in reference to the MPAA. Things like that don't even make any sense. Tom has waddled off the deep end and desperately craves the attention he once merited. He'll turn into Ann Coulter soon and the real world can move on and ignore him.

The Republican party didn't become the war party until Bush Sr. cut and ran from Iraq. Reagan cut and ran from Beirut and Nixon ended up leaving Vietnam.
