Iraq vets face heightened suicide risks.

Iraq vets face heightened suicide risks.

“Veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan are at increased risk of suicide because Veterans Administration health clinics do not have 24-hour mental health care available, an internal review found.”

Hey, they knew what they were signing up for, right?
    /sarcasm

F*cking VA. Can we get some basic mental health care for our veterans? Is it really too much to ask?

  2. Sandy says:

But isn’t that because Republican stalwart Jim Nicholson, VA Admin. believes their DENTAL health needs are a bigger “priority” than their MENTAL health needs?

Gee, did anybody see Bob Woodruff’s incredible report on head injuries? On the THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS suffering from post-traumatic stress?

Suicide risks SHOULD BE a BIG concern to anyone who actually CARES about our returning veterans.

Like Cheney with his 5-F during VN (”I had other priorities….”) these bastards do NOT give a damn! They have “other priorities”…..like lining their pockets.

    Pieces of crap.

But I thought all of the soldiers volunteered to go to foreign and randomly kill people, because that is what they volunteered to do.

    /Sarcasm = dumb a$$ trolls

    Zooey,

The entire mental health industry is in shambles, it’s not just Vets.
And then there’s the quality of health care, could you imagine people like Jake and Valiunt providing mental health care, or any kind of care for that matter? Sadly there’s a lot of them out there, just for the money, not for the wanting to help someone.

One in five people suffer mental health issues.

That means that of the 414 people allowed to access WH e-mail accounts from the RNC, 83 of them were crazy!

    Can-O-Whoop-Ass,

I know it’s all messed up, but it’s my opinion that the veterans’ needs are heightened right now, and will be for a long time. Since they have a Veteran’s Administration that is supposed to be handling the needs of veterans, I would just like them to do what they’re supposed to do.

I don’t even want to think about the possibility of Jake-like and Valiant-like mental health providers….

For most people coming back, just adjusting to being normal is the hardest part.
When I first came back home, I was riding in a car with my brother, and we got out at a friends house. There was a radio tower (blinking light, big and metal) on a hill above us, and I caught the blin k out of the corner of my eye. I didn’t even think, just DOVE behind the car and yelled “tracers!!”. It’s funny to me now, but I won’t front, it spooked me for a few weeks after that because I kept fearing I was gonna have “flashbacks” like you hear about guys from Nam. It’s amazing how even a “tough guy” can get a litle tweaked in the melon from combat…

(not calling myself a tough guy, btw)
